[Q] Virtuous Saga v.1.0.0 Audio system failure - HTC Desire S

I should have posted this in DEV subforum, but I have not enough posts to do so, so please accept my apologies.
I have seen this issue already mentioned here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27821443&postcount=661
This is the same issue I have. I've used this ROM since it's out, about a month and had no problems. But now I have to restart my DS after each call (and some more events I didn't figured out for now), otherwise my mic doesn't work even on calls as well as speaker and headphones (these doesn't fail so often as mic).
I've tried to wipe data, cache, dalvik. It helped for a few days, now problem is back.
Does one have ideas ?

does people you are speaking to only hear a strange noise?

Yes, I was told about wind/alien sounds.

As far as I remember, I have encountered this issue after having my phone on vibrations-only mode. After about 1 hour - 2 hours I've turned volume up and there was no sound, no music.
I have made some phone calls too, but I haven't encountered that issue, neither poeple that I was sepaking haven't told me that they are hearing strange noises.
After I restarted device, it worked again, and after 1-2h audio system stopped functioning.
This was serious bug so I reverted back to CM 7.2.
Other functions worked almost perfectly.
So I'm waiting for official update.
P.S. I hadn't enough posts too to report it in developement section.

i read on an old forum topic that this might come from poweramp app. i cheked and found out that this app was upgraded only a day before this first happened (june 22nd). so i uninstalled it, rebooted, wiped cache and dalvik cache and the problem seemed to have gone. two days later i installed a new update of poweramp and this thing immediately came back. i uninstalled the app again and now i'm testing if it wasn't just a coincidence..
do you have poweramp installed?

Yes, I have Poweramp installed.

test this yourself and report..

Already uninstalled Poweramp, lets's see...

any news? mine is working fine for three days now without poweramp.

For me it's just a day without Poweramp and without problems. So I'm still not 100% sure that it's Poweramp's fault. But it's probably the time to thank you! :good:
Btw, I didn't wipe anything, just uninstalled and restarted.

great! so they're working on it. till then i think i'm gonna install the older, working verson of poweramp. it's my favorite music player...

I met this problem too. After uninstalled newest Poweramp, the problem gone!

It may be fixed in build 508 because similar bug for HTC Sensation XL is fixed. I'm testing...

This a great find, I to am a heavy poweramp user and am currently on virtuous ics Rom. Again same problem happened and I do remember a recent poweramp update recently and the incall Mic problem happened, same crazy radio hissing sound on the receiver end.
Never thought it would be my favorite music app causing this.
Thanks guys.

Help! No sound after ICS update

I've been using it for 8 months without any problem (always have most updated FW). Now, since I've updated to ICS (OTA) last Saturday I have consistent audio problem - there is no sound at all (by any app). I need to restart it and get the sound back, but then after a while, it happens again. FYI, everything is stock, without root, etc.
Is it a known problem of the new ICS? Anyone has a solution for this problem?
Many thanks!
I noticed a issue with no sound. After reboot it works fine.

same thing happened to me...asus used to be the only one who was good at updates but not lately...anyway, try backing up all your apps and going to settings and doing a full/factory reset. helped out mine with the sound issue and it hasnt happened since. see if that will work for you as well
yes, reboot or factory reset can solve the problem..
but now i cant use usb thumbdrive on dock, are u?
i dont have the dock so i couldnt tell you. usb to computer and microsd are working fine for me though
Happens to me about once a day, no sound (from media, notifications, anthing). A quick reboot solves it. I've already done a factory reset to try and solve the "reboots while sleeping", but that didn't fix either one of those issues.
mine was on silent mode after ics update something to check before a reboot, it is usually the simple things.....
A few reboots into ICS, my sound was gone. I rebooted it, and it came back. It happened again a few reboots later. Tried rebooting to fix it, but it never came back. I tried reflashing 3.1.1 again, still no go. I eventually caved and RMA'ed it on Monday. I had to unroot it
My sound has gone away twice on me. The first time was started a movie & there was no sound. I wanted to use the HDMI out anyway & I did have sound on the TV. Again last night I lost sound again & had to reboot. I never had this problem with HC.
more then likely its a hardware issue. its just a coincidence that u just upgraded. with everyone with a transformer upgrading, any problem that follows will be directly linked. I have speaker issues as u all described. I can push the bottom of my tab and my speakers cut back in once I loose sound.
get a bluetooth speaker or send it for Rma. I went with the first option.
I don't think it's a hardware issue (at least in my case) - I've never had this problem before ICS update, and the problem will go away right after a restart. It sounds to me a firmware problem; probably some conflict between the new ICS with existing apps
Honestly, I'm quite regret to have it updated...
I'm having the same issue too (intermittent loss of audio, returns after reboot) - definitely related to firmware/software, not a hardware issue.

Do a factory reset and cold boot.
You can't expect all your honeycomb apps to work on ICS without causing issues.
Avoid doing that reset + cold boot.
After two of them + several other tries, my sound keeps mutting.
Lets hope the update fixes this.
I too have this problem after ICS update. I noticed, sometimes after I put into silent mode, it stay muted until a reboot.
I do believe it is ics firmware issue, Tf201 get fix with lastest build so I hope Tf101 get fix too.
Yep, I get this as well. Shame!
Firmware related most likely. Mine is doing it too. A reboot fixes the issue. Hard reset won't likely correct the issue as I did a factory reset prior to installation. Possibly a piece of software causing it, but I am not going to mess with it as I only have 1 program installed.
After the update to ICS, my daughter's TF201 no longer has any audio.. speakers or headphone.
I've done the factory data reset and the data wipe. No change. Sadly, I have an RMA and hope they can figure it out. Before I ship it off, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Just another 'me too' post. I have 2 transformers in the house. Upgraded one (a B80) to revolver and lose audio a few times. Reboot brings it back. When it goes away, no sound from speakers or headphone jacks. Next time it happens I'll try and grab a logcat.
Haven't tried it on my older rev TF yet, I think i'll hold off a bit.
The B80 was wiped and done with a clean install. User apps restored via TB, but no settings were carried over from HC.

[Q] Weird sound problem

Hello all,
I got a strange problem with my Sensation XE, which causes me headaches.
I recently updated my stock Sensation XE firmware to the official HTC release of Android ICS, after i got notified about it.
Everything went well, and there were no problems upgrading whatsoever. However after a couple hours, i faced a weird problem.
The sound stopped working in apps like youtube, soundboards etc.
The strange thing about it, is that the media volume is on, also the stock music player works, and it seems like there is nothing wrong. After restarting the phone everything works fine again for a couple of hours.
Things i already tried:
- Googled it, to see if others had the same problem -> no solutions.
- asked a lot of other HTC sensation users if they encountered this problem.
- Searched this forum for solutions.
Also, i'm not using the stock headset, but a Beats Solo HD, with the remote which came with it. Is it possible that the phone gets confused or something?
Thanks for any replies in advance!
It's a known bug, and there's no fix as of yet.
Well that sucks, ah well, hope they'll fix it soon. Thanks!

HOX speaker volume gets very low until reboot

I've not seen anyone here mention this, but it's being discussed on other Android forums. Thought I'd post here on XDA in hopes that some of the more technical members of this forum might have some input or ideas.
I noticed one day recently that the Google Navigation voice was so low I couldn't hear the directions over the sound of my car's A/C, which I know had not been the case before. All volumes were at max. This continued for the rest of the day, and all ringtones and notification sounds were very low. IT was so dramatic, I just assumed the speaker went bad, and I was going to have to make an insurance claim over a defective phone.
I happened to reboot the phone that evening and instantly the speaker volume was 3-4x as loud as earlier that day. I thought it was a one-time thing, but now realize that this happens 3-4 times a week. I'll notice I can't hear any of the notification sounds very well, reboot the phone, and all is well.
Except, this is a pain in the @ss to have to reboot constantly!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought I would recognize a pattern, like some app I use regularly or something, but nothing seems to make sense... seems very arbitrary, but aggravating nonetheless.
As I said, this is being talked about on a lot of the other HOX forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned specifically here. I almost want to say it started after the AT&T update last month, because I never noticed it before that. I'm on stock AT&T HOX, not rooted, and only a handful of the 'regular' popular apps. I don't even have music on the phone, nor have I ever used earbuds with it.
Very frustrating!
I have had the exact same thing happen, no clue why though.
I started a thread awhile back. Mine does the sane as well.. pissed..hope its software issue
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Same here, I'm leaning towards it being a software issue due to a reboot always fixing it.
What ROM are you on?Custom or Stock?Any mods done to the phone?I had the same issue with the phone volume being to low on a custom rom, until I went into recovery to wipe cache/dalvick and everything was good/loud again.

I can vouch for this solution. I had the same issues on my HOX when I installed a custom ROM.
In the "Special Notes" section of the CleanROM v4.1 notes, it states:
Volume may be quite. If so wipe cache's and reflash the ROM. Volume should be loud again.

Hopefully it's as simple of a fix as this!!
I'm completely stock, no custom ROMs, not rooted.
I have the same problem, stock and rooted. I recently started noticing it. It didn't always happen to me.
I do use Tasker to put my media volume all the way down once i exit my car. Then I use Elixr 2 to put all my volumes to high once I use my "home" profile. I think it might be cause of that. Since I've stopped using exlir to raise the volume, I haven't noticed the issue. But I have restarted my phone every 2 days recently for another issue so it is possible that I am fixing it each time before the symptoms start to occur

Has anyone found a permanent solution to this? It's my only gripe. I have tried two sense roms. I love HTC camera so I don't want asop. Volume plus doesn't help when volume drops off.

Still no fixes yet? I was using the phone with Navigon Satnav app and it is impossible to hear any voice directions.

Do you hear a difference between when it's low and then restarting your phone and trying it again?

I can't detect any difference and if there is it is too small to detect. I tried to amplify the sound with Volume+ and there is no detectable difference. But if I use the speaker for a call, at maximum volume, it is really really loud so the speaker is definitely capable of more. But with Satnav GPS apps, at default settings, between the One X and my old Galaxy S2, there is a night and day difference
I too had these issues on replacement phone I got from att but it resolved automatically after few days
From beast called HTC One X
this problem causes due to an App, in my case previous version of Viber App caused all this issues....
hope you solve this prob

CM-10 08/21 bug

Since I am unable to post it the developement forum for the CM nightlies, this sub-forum is the only option. Gchat (at least on my phone) only plays thru the headset speaker (not the external). Had to hook up a set of buds to be able to converse with the wife this morning. If anyone reads this and can either move it to the DEV section, or at least let them know it would be beneficial.
CM 10 Nightly 8/21
Installed the Official CM 10 Nightly 8/21 an hour ago and it is running great. MMS works, Camera works with out crash or reboot, No reboots and a flashlight app I use that caused a reboot on 8/20 works with out a reboot on 8/21. keep up the great work. If only I could post where it would be seen.
Unless I missed a setting somewhere, the Audio through USB didn't work either. Still a [email protected] rom though and I know for most that option isn't important.
Another bug?
Anyone else having problems with Google Maps stopping. Doesn't matter whether GPS is on or off. Loads, locates and then closes. This will be one thing that makes me go back to an ICS ROM.... have to have maps working. 08/21 build.

Full wipe and reinstall appears to have fixed this.

I did a full wipe and install. I don't get any random reboots anymore. No echos. But the battery seems to be worse. I'm dropping at 2% per half-hour rate. This is w/o touching the phone at all. Just letting it sit there. Anyone experiencing something like this with the battery?
Can't get the USB Audio to work. So far, this is the only issue I've had.

How does Bluetooth audio look as of now?
I'm waiting for bluetooth to be 100% on CM10 before I use it as a DD. It looks and works great just need that functionality. It was the same on my trusty Thunderbolt (god rest his soul) when CM was being built for it.

mm-qcamera-daemon

I am running a stock Nexus 5 with 4.4.2. and mm-qcamera-daemon has been significantly lowering my battery life and I do not know which app is causing it. Does anyone know where this originated from or what it is?

it comes from the camera, when you take hdr+ photos.
Are you using any battery saving apps? If so, get rid of them.

I had the same thing I deleted most things that I recently downloaded that used the camera and I rebooted the phone and it worked

I'm having this problem too. I don't have snapchat or any of the other applications that have been claimed to cause it.
I haven't installed any new camera using apps so it's probably due to some update. Stock rom, was happening on stock kernel, is still happening on linaro.

I'm not sure if this helps or relates to your situation but I had that problem about a month after installing jishnu's camera...kinda came out of nowhere one day. I deleted the app/ mod, rebooted and reinstalled it and haven't had the problem since.
this is a nightmare, as it is unpredictable, with no solution, and not addressed by google.. Even after a factory reset, it ends up coming back.
I got this 2 days ago, first time ever. And I have been using my camera consistently.
First when I start my camera, I get Unable to connect to camera, so I rebooted, and camera works again, but at the end of the day, I saw the high memory usage. I rebooted the phone again yesterday and it seems fine again. Buggy...
And this process have no "Report" button like Google Search or Google Maps have, so I have no way of reporting this issue to Google.
One of the culprit is Yahoo! Messenger's voice/video plugin... Or any other apps that will use the camera..
If you were trying to upload a picture but failed in the mid way... this might occured as the app will always trying to upload the pic eventhough it got failed..
Per my similar topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2564457 the culprit for me seems to be an update to Skype pushed out a few days ago.

hmm, now you mentioned it, I did install skype on my phone a while ago.
Let me uninstall it!
Since I removed Skype I've had zero more black screens; I'm pretty confident that this is the cause for me.
Negative Guys....
I'm sure that is not third party apps that is causing that drainage,
Why in the world suddenly all people are experiencing this batt drainage with many different apps and blaming them?
I have the problem with weather channel and the mm-qcamera-daemon, others with skype, others with yahoo messenger and so on, this problem suddenly?
I believe that google is working on that problem but not saying anything about it.
Please read all these reports in these 2 links and after that tell me that I'm wrong.

I know that some people just uninstall an application and then it works again as before, but later on the problem shall arise in a few days or something, I've read this. Let me uninstall it and let you know, maybe it was an update that caused the problem but I got The Weather Channel that said it was something similar to mm-qcamera.daemon and I uninstalled it and the same problem, I deleted the cache and davlik cache as well and it did not work, I have rebooted several times and it seems that I have to do a nandroid restore and see what happens after that.

I am not actually blaming them, just want to find out HOW to make sure this doesn't happen to me. If it involves uninstalling Skype, then let it be.
This is definitely a OS process, its whether there's a bug in the OS, that was triggered by Skype, OR its that Skype is not using the API correctly, either way, the "solution" for now is just to uninstall Skype.
