I'm unable to post in the DEV forums yet so I'm hoping someone can help answer my question here.
Has anyone attempted to use USB mass storage since upgrading to SKY-ICS 4.2F-5? If so, are you having any issues? Since updating, whenever I select Settings-More-USB utilities and attempt to connect storage to PC, the screen freezes and get a Settings FC. However, once I'm able pull down the notifications bar, it shows that my USB is connected and I'm able to select it and start transferring files. I didn't have this issue in past updates.
I originally updated from 4.5B to 5B and came across the issue. I then reflashed the base and updated to 5A and still have the issue, so I'm asking for help. I've searched the forums and the only thing similar I found was in another development ROM thread for a different Samsung device, and it looked like it may have been a ROM issue as a few people had a similar problem.
Same Problem
I am having the exact same issue except that the phone USB storage does not show up on the PC for browsing at all.
This does not happen on just SKY-ICS 4.2F but also the Galaxy S3 ROM by remf4i, I suspect it may happen on a few of the others as well.
Once I flash the initial ROM everything is good, I can connect the USB Mass Storage with no issues. Once I flash any update the Mass Storage issue comes up. I have tried multiple times with both ROMS and nothing.
Any insight or help would be great.

I have 2 gingerbread related problems if anyone cares to assist:
1) Usb Disk Mode. I cant ever seem to get it to mount within windows. I have seen a few posts saying to toggle back and forth from charge to disk, but i havent had any luck.
2) Messaging randomly stopped showing contact names (instead showes just their number).
Anyone have a potential fix for these? I know gingerbread on the TB is still a work in progress, but figured I would test the water on these. Thanks in advance!
Answer to #1: plug in, chooze Internet passthrough, count to 5, choose disk drive.
For the last few weeks I haven't been able to get any PCs to see my phone (tried my personal, work, and one friend's, all running Windows 7). Previously it would mount as an external drive just fine (MTP) but now I really cannot get it to connect to any computers so I'm having to do all file transfers through Dropbox and stuff.
Tried a few apps like the SGS3 Easy UMS but nothing works. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I've been updating to the "last stable build" of CyanogenMod 10.1 and now 10.2 from the ApexQ team about once a week. Not that I really know what it means.
Did you try different cables?
Try downloading all drivers for our phone and using last 10.1 nightly. That's what I'm on currently on and just used 2 days ago and had no issues. Most importantly use cable that came with phone!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Downgrading to the last stable 10.1 nightly seems to have done it. Same cables used throughout.

having issues with that too from time to time. reboot sometimes helps, shutdown, pull battery and wait a few secs then put it all back together always did.
may be related to the otg-driver they are fiddeling with atm. seems like the chip gets stuck in some mode which makes the device invisible (doesn't even show up in kernel logs as if it wasn't connected at all)

we're just adjusting for a few differences in the 3.4 kernel (plus all the nutty caf patches d2 loves) and adding new features at the same time look for otg in a build near you soon. At this point it's not "does otg work" but "how can we best implement this in our shared kernel" and "can we also do usb aca" (otg + charging at the same time)
my phone's rooted, but i decided not to put CM on it.
anyway, MTP is pissing me off.
everything i try to put music on it from my computer, it doesn't recognize it and puts it in the LOST.DIR. What's worse is that I can't delete anything I put on the SD card. It says it's protected.
I've tried putting music on my sd card using another phone with usb mass storage and exchanging sd cards, but it gives me the same result.
anyone have a solution to this?
i've tried usb mass storage enabler, airdroid, and kies. none work.
any help is appreciated! thanks!
Sounds like your sd card. Try a different one.
Running CM 11-20140222 Nightly-Skyrocket, Kernal 3.0.101, Android 4.2.2, connected to Kubuntu 13.10, by usb cable. It is impossible to reliably connect phone to computer to transfer files, or any other type of file searching/working. Sometimes I connect as MTP, and I can do transfers/other things, but it may be hours, sometimes days in between each successful connection. I have tried at least 15 different UMS programs from the play store, and I have read at least 25 different threads on different forums about this situation with no luck.
Apparently UMS is no longer used in Android, and MTP as I said is unreliable. Does anyone know of any workaround that would solve this problem? I hate posting a question that I know has been posted before, especially as many times as this one has, but nothing I have tried has worked, and I have always used my phone and sd card as a quick thumb/zip/whatever drive, for whatever someone might need a thumb drive for. I have tried asking this on the CM Skyrocket forum, but for some reason not only can I not post new threads, I can't answer already posted threads or contact forum moderaters/admin in order to find out why.
I know there is always the wifi option that will always work, problem is I don't use wifi, I actually use my cell service as a tether/hotspot in order to connect. So there is no network to use to connect with. Setting up a ftp account is just not feasible as I need to use multiple computers throughout the day.
@rk4262 you're doing something wrong on the computer side, mtp works fantastically well on my mint boxes which shouldn't be much different than your kubuntu considering they use the same base.

Now to figure out what :silly:
Hello everyone,
First and foremost, please forgive me if an answer to this has already been posted somewhere; I have searched several different forums extensively, and while I have found several similar problems, I have tried their solutions and come up empty-handed. Here's my dilemma:
1. My phone simply refuses to be detected/recognized by my PC via USB connection, through Kies/Odin/Windows Explorer, though I can be detected and connect through AirDroid.
2. I have updated my Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones, and reinstalled those drivers multiple times.
3. I have tried multiple different USB cords, as well as multiple different USB ports.
4. I have been successful in connecting my wife's Note 1 to my PC.
5. I have tried dialing the "*#0808#" code into the dialer, and it always tells me that the signal is weak.
6. I have done a factory reset, both through the settings menu and through the recovery mode.
7. After having done the factory reset, I have been able to get the phone to download updates, but when the phone tries to install them, it only gets to 25% every time and then shows "Error", after which it tells me that the firmware was unable to update.
8. I have downloaded, installed, and tried every app I can find that claims to be able to root a phone without a PC, and they have all failed.
9. I am simply unable to find the "USB Connections" menu, the one where the MTP or PTP modes are, and have only been able to access it through Samsung's "Smart Care" app.
10. I have also tried to get Odin to recognize my phone by resetting my SIM card, and by using the battery removal trick: neither worked for me.
I think that pretty much covers everything right now.... I am COMPLETELY dumbfounded, and have NO idea what to do, NOR do I have any idea if this is a hardware or software problem. ANY help would be MOST appreciated.
Hi,
You have already made a post here on same topic. Please do not make multiple posts of same topic. kindly wait for the experts to answer your question.

Currently running stock rooted 8.0 with the most current updates. Searching the web turns up a number of references to this with no real solution, searching here found no references to it at all unless I suck at searching.
I've noticed I have a lot of trouble transferring files to my Pixel from my computer (Windows 8.1). My phone is recognized, but accessing it tends to be very slow, and if you copy anything to it, it tends to stall, often before it even begins to transfer (calculating space required, etc) even with small files. Even just creating a new folder has hung it up before. I've tried different cables, different ports, and no change. Disconnecting and reconnecting the phone will get it working again briefly, but it's not long before the problem returns.
On a whim, I booted in to TWRP, and tried copying files there. First try, everything is immediately recognized, and is transferring at full speed. I just finished a 7.5 GB file transfer with no issue, after transferring a 3.5 GB right before successfully. The good news is this seems to be a viable workaround for now, but it'd be nice to not have to boot into TWRP every time I want to transfer something. Anyone else having this problem or have a solution?
