Hi again guys, so this morning i took my Galaxy 4G that was not charging the battery for some reason. And changed the charging port because i thought that was going to be it. Funny enough it didnt do the trick. So i checked, double checked and triple checked the solder points and everything was fine. I can read the 5 volts on the charging port pins but thats it. When i connect the usb to the wall, it shows like charging sequence is starting but then all of the sudden the screen will go off and thats it.
Ive been having a very similar situation with a couple infuse mobos i have, but just similar in terms of charging. If i put an already charged battery on the t959v it will turn on and work just fine. It even recognizes the debbuging mode. In fact after i changed the charging port i applied the unbrickable mod to the mobo and it worked perfectly. But still, battery wont charged. The infuse mobos wont turn on they just get stock in a bootloop. So please if someone knows about some schematic made for this phone or knows the route for those 5volts please help me... I would like to at least check the closest pins where those 5volts are supposed to go before giving up with that phone.
This seems like something bhundven, m4m4n or raverx3x would know... I would pm them . Good luck with the hardware tinkering.

We do have the specification (user manual) for the s5pc110 (exynos 3110). but it is not specific to our phone.
Yeap, thats what i thought. I do have that for the i9000 and the original t959. I mean some pinouts i made myself using working mobos. But i dont have that for the t959v. And since the mobo is not working as it should i dont think i will be lucky trying to check pinouts on a non working mobo.
So, a friend brought me his galaxy 4g so that i could take it apart and check for the pins i was looking for. Shure enough i found them, but too unlucky it didnt matter. It seems like its either an ic or one of those resistors shorted. But anyways thanks guys
Ok people so im editing this post because ive found the solution for my problem. Guess what? So i decided to give it a try to the reflow blower on my soldering station. Since i thought it may have been some soldering points or something that had a lose contact. Well, it was!!! Now i have my galaxy 4G working again. Im going to open it back one more time and try to use flux so that i make sure the solder points are nicely welded. Never seen something like that on a galaxy phone but hey, It worked!!!!!!
I never charge my phone....I bought an OEM external charger that came with 1 battery and then bought 3 OEM batteries for $6.00 each.
This way the only time I need the port is to hook it up to the comp.

Yeah, thats actually a good idea to keep your phone working. But the thing is that i do have a bunch of phones. Many of them because i buy them from friends who have them and something is wrong with them(Phones). So i buy them cheap and use them to test things and have fun flashing or stuff like that. And that one was the case, in fact, i bought it because the phone wasnt charging. But i thought the solution was to change the usb port since i saw the + contact inside the port twisted. But i changed the port and it didnt work. Like i said on a different thread, i work with electronics on a daily basis so for me this is just fun...

Good day sir I noticed you said you have schematics for Samsung T959. Is this true? I am looking for schematics to apply the unbrickable mod with the xOM5 resistor. Do you have schematic for this? Can you please share?

Those of us with an interest in kernel development would still kill for schematics or board traces. Neither have ever surfaced, that I know of. I believe that the previous poster was referring to the various SoC documentation that has been out there, but that won't tell you where to put the resistor.
The SGS4G is pretty unbrickable as it sits, as long as you don't muck with the bootloaders.
If you still want the unbrickable mod, I'd search through these SGS4G forums as I think @bhundven may have looked into it or done it. Search is your best bet as I think he's taking a break from phone-dev work.

Actually, @AdamOutler did the modification for me, but I risked the sacrifice to make it possible for our device (SGH-T959V/W).

Well, i dont think youll need an schematic to apply unbrickable mod. To be honestm pictures attached by Adam look way too clear for us to miss it. Thruth is i have been looking for a couple mobos schematics and been able to find some. For example last week i needed the N7000 Galaxy Note schematic to find the sim card pinout for a customer who broke the soldering on the mobo of a N7000 Galaxy. Lucky enough i found it. So, search will always be our best tool.

I am having issues with my Captivate's micro-USB port being loose. This is my second Captivate, and although it's still under warranty, the first one was RMA'd with the same issue. I never drop the phone while charging, etc, and I've tried multiple chargers so I really can't see why this would be happening. Both phones were 1008 versions, not sure if the 1008 is known to have this issue, or if I just have horrid luck. If anyone here can solder / fix the phone, I'm hesitant to go to AT&T again, as last time they made me go to the store and have the person working there verify that the USB port was not broken (luckily it still charged if you held it a certain way, and even more luckily I was able to flash stock before returning it!). Anyways, this phone is a refurb, and I did call and almost get it replaced as soon as I got it, as it had this issue slightly upon arrival, but decided it would be a hassle. It's only been about a month since the RMA, so I'm pretty sure that if I try now, they're going to get very mean about it, and possibly try and send me a bill for the phone, not to mention, the guy at the AT&T store will probably think something is up.
Any ideas are welcome, I love my Captivate, and I was just getting into develping on XDA :S

I actually found a fix to my issue. I actually was looking at it one day, and figured that in theory, it should be easy to fix, so I (CAREFULLY!!!) took a small knife I had and gently bent the inner part of the port up just a tad (it looked like it was too far down, and yes, I know it's supposed to be far down, but not that far), and it actually worked perfectly.
Thats weird... It kinda has to be what you're doing with it, since mine doesn't even have an irregular slight wiggle.
Obviously it could be just your luck but i doubt it.
edit: and who cares if the att dude thinks somethings up... its your $500..
Like I said, the second one actually had the issue upon arrival, but it was barely noticeable (the USB port would work, but if you moved the phone a lot, etc, it'd disconnect, then reconnect). I called in and talked to them, but decided not to RMA because it'd be a pain (in hindsight I should have...), and the problem just got worse.
Is the port internally lose? Or just when you plug a cable in it wiggles alot? Ive heard about people stretching the casing inside the port from alot of flashing (plugging in the usb). But if the hole port moves inside the phone thats no good lol. You should try to locate a nearby device service center and show them the problem and make sure you walk out with refurb thats fine. Dont worry about the people at atnt questioning it. Hell I use to walk in and just say "gps dosent work" and they would switch it out no questions.
What you said makes sense, the port looks like it's pretty sturdy, it's just that the cable wiggles a LOT, and it makes it hard to get it to even register.

I also had this issue, i opened up the stock Samsung Cable end to find that two of the four wires had insufficient strain relief and broke off at the solder joints
Oddly enough I had issues with the first cable as well, but I replaced it, and have tried others from my current.
So my USB port is being a little temparmental. It likes to charge only in a certain position. When playing music it does the same thing. Odin same thing. YOu get the idea. Obviously a loose connection inside the phone. Anyone every rip one of these things open and resolder this component? It's only a matter of time before it fails completely so I figure if no one else has done it I might as well give it try. Either that or get more batteries and a charger but that might hose me for Odin!
Have you verified it's not the cable? I had to replace one due to weird connectivity issues.

While your USB port still works, you should probably Odin a stock ROM and send it back to T-Mobile.
It would suck if your USB port completely died and T-Mobile won't replace your phone. It happened to one of the members on this forum. I forgot his name though.
Cables not the problem. It's the port itself. As far as TMOB goes no way to send it back to them. I got out of my contract a month and a half ago and switched to ATT. I like taking stuff apart and trying to fix it so worst case I try and kill the phone. Best case I fix it. Just looking to see if anyone here has ever ripped this thing open. Advice or tips would be great. Obviously I'm not to worried about voiding the warranty.
You could try the Vibrant and i9000 forums, I guess? The Vibrant community has opened their phone to install a FFC, and they might have come across the USB port. It might be similar to the SGS4G.

bkoon, that is a really good idea. i the vibrant and 4g have the same chasis, i think. you should be able to follow the video guides on how to add the ffc to the vibrant and be able to resolder the usb port. but you have to be careful with the soldering (im not sure how good you are with it), that could short circuit some things in the phone.

That would be me. I managed to hold the plug just right long enough to stock get to KD1, and the second trip to T-Mo was successful. $20 processing fee, and the phone arrives tomorrow.
Back when I had a Blackberry Curve, I found a shop to replace the Mini-USB for about $65. That was my next step.
Please let us know how it goes! I'm sure we're curious as to how the insides will be like.

I've used ifixit numerous times. Fixed my laptop and my friends laptop. Thanks for the link though I would of never been able to find such a site on my own. Must be great to be that smart.

Specifically interested in what cases the Unbrickable Mod will recover a device where the jig will not. I can use a soldering iron.
Unbrickable mod will let you revive your hardware much better than a jig would. If you know how to solder I'd recommend doing that.
what FB says is right, i personally dont like messing with that small hardware so i bought a jig, its fixed all my bricks so far but if ur plannin on running some crazy stuff or testing roms then i would stick with unbrickablemod, like FB said.

Well, I took apart my phone to look at the resistors and wow they are small. Put it back together and the phone can't see my SIM card. I've looked and cant find anything disconnected. This might be a problem...

Did not try another's SIM. Can do that tonight. Would be very surprised if this were the issue though. Yeah, the ifixit seems to be the best site for finding good images of the phone internals. I suspect the little ribbon cable which wraps around the phone and plugs into the daugtherboard containing the SIM is loose. Beyond that I am kinda at a loss. I will work on it more when I get home tonight from work. Thanks for the response! I'll let you know how things go.
After I got my skyrocket, many of my friends and family also decided on the skyrocket Well, now it's up to me to make sure they're all in working order.
So one of my family members left her skyrocket in a bag of water for a while while she was at the beach, and it was completely unresponsive. I fully disassembled it (not my first time), dried out the majority of the water, then left the phone in rice for a few days. The good news is, the phone boots up and seems to work. The battery still works and it charges over USB.
The bad news is, the cellular radio does not work, IMEI comes up as unknown, bluetooth mac is "unavailable", front facing camera is also unresponsive. Really bad news: data/adb over usb does not register at all. A few more days in rice haven't helped.
The phone is completely stock. My first thought was that flashing a new radio might reset the cellular somehow, but not having cwm/odin makes that impossible. I can't seem to get the phone into download mode either because of the USB problem.
One thing that DOES work is the stock recovery. I can tell it to flash the official ATT ICS build, which contains a radio!
However when I try flashing it says.. "E: Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device) Installation aborted". Other zips "failed to verify whole-file signature"
Any ideas? My next step will be buying a used skyrocket with a cracked screen, and transplanting the working screen from this unit...

First off, please use the Q&A section for, you know, questions and answers. Don't create a new thread; I'm going to ask the mods to move this one instead.
Second, your issue is that the hardware radio is dead. The stock ROM only has a software radio included. To put it a different way, the stock ROM includes programming that tells the cell radio what to do. It can't fix the cell radio if it's broken, though. Unfortunately, based on the amount of damage you've got there, I'd say your phone is pretty much toast.
If you're completely stock, try to warranty it out. Just be up front with Sammy about what happened (because, in this instance, they will figure it out if you make up a story or play dumb), and the worst thing they can say is no. You might get a sympathetic rep who'll help you out. If they won't take it, you've already got your backup plan in the working SR.

I do know the difference between the hardware/software radios... My thought was that while the phone was turned on and submerged, the software radio could have become corrupt... A long shot perhaps
I'll try contacting samsung, but somehow I doubt they'll cover it. Sidenote, do you really think they have a more sophisticated way to check for water damage than the internal water-damage indicator sticker?
The question still stands though, if anyone is interested. Even without a cell radio, I'd like to be able to root it for other purposes

Yeah, based on the amount of things going wrong, it's hardware. If the software radio was corrupt, it would be because the internal storage had been corrupted, and your phone likely would not boot.
And yes, they can find water damage beyond the sticker. They can see corrosion plain as day when they open it up and look at the internals.
You can root it without USB working. Is your wifi working? If so, download GooManager off the market, then follow the instructions in the TWRP thread to get TWRP on your phone. Download a custom ROM to your PC, then transfer it to your external SD using an adapter/card reader so you can place it on the card directly (instead of going through the USB port). Use TWRP to flash the pre-rooted ROM onto your phone and viola. Unless there's a pre-rooted stock out there (and I don't think there is for SR), a custom ROM is the only way I can think of to do it.
Be advised, though, that because of the amount of damage done to your phone's internals, there's a better-than-normal chance that something won't work and you'll brick. I'm not responsible for your decisions or for the brick if that happens.
Long story short, just get a replacement SR.
Same thing happened to my girls Atrix. She gave it a nice bath in Green Tea. After shutting it down and pulling it apart I gave it the rice treatment for 48 hours. Booted but returned a radio error. Her USB port was working so I was able to root it and install a few custom ROMs on it. No change. So I would bet you actually fried the chip. Call Sammi and get a quote to cover the repair which will be a new mobo. They pay shipping both ways and are usually pretty cheap.

Heh, this is my mother's phone actually. First she ripped the screen ribbon cable on a nokia E75. Then she smashed her Atrix's screen, tried to fix it herself with a new screen, and managed to rip part of a ribbon cable... so it no longer has a working touch digitizer. Now she left her skyrocket in a bag of water. The girlfriend managed to crack her skyrocket's screen, which I replaced... I've also had to fix 2x nokia N95's, an N97, and a bunch of water damaged dumb phones over the years...
FWIW, the skyrocket seems to have the best repairability / internal layout of any of the phones I've messed with
The cracked screen skyrockets on ebay seem to be going for more than I thought, so I'll be giving sammy a call for sure
I have 2 Galaxy Note 4 phones. Love em. They are both running the same configuration, Android 6.0.1. I have an MHL adapter that I have used on may devices for quite a while and it works great. However, it only works on one of my Note 4 phones. I am totally baffled. I spent a couple hours reviewing the settings on both phones to see if something was different. I even upgraded it to 6.0.1/Marshmellow and when that didn't work I did a factory reset. I have read every troubleshooting guide and nothing seems to work. I guess what I am looking for is someone who understand what I should be looking for....
Clearly its not the adapter since it does work on the one Note 4.
It seems to me this is likely a hardware problem because of the fact that I did a factory reset, but honestly I can't really say. I don't think the lcd digitizer would affect it, but just in case I pulled it and installed the one from the working phone. No joy.
Anyone know if there are hardware differences between Note 4s made at different times? I don't know what else to try but if anyone has an ideas please offer it as this has me stumped.

May be a silly question but I ask it because I see you made no mention of it but have you checked and compared the charging ports between the two and is there any missing pieces or bent port pins, debris, pocket lint or anything else that would affect the connection to the phone?

I don't think it is a silly question at all. For me, usually the problems I have the toughest time solving are often when I am looking for the complicated solution and forget the simple one starting at me. I just assumed the USB was ok because I can charge the phone and browse files. But obviously it has to be that. Really there is not much else it could be when I break it down. Now that I test it more closely the file transfer is not the best on this phone.
I guess I needed to hear that. Yeah so it seems quite obvious now. I just replaced the lcd digitizer so I may as well go ahead and replace the charging port while I have the phone apart since I can buy one for +/- $10.
