Well, I'm not an AT&T user, despise them to be honest, but bought 2 Fuzes off eBay that were still locked.
Not necessarily a problem... so I thought.
I called AT&T, told them I'm not a customer, told them I purchased the phones off eBay, and asked if they'd give me the Unlock Codes. Well, normally the process would cost (for non-customers), but me being Military, she worked around the Pay-to-unlock system (so she said).
She input my information and created a fake customer account, pretty much, so she could create a case for the requests. Well, as soon as she finished inputting the information, she looked for the codes for my IMEI numbers, and found some odd results.
She found the phones in the system, but there were no unlock codes present. She put me on hold and did god knows what, came back and said the same thing.
Assuming that she was being honest, if there are no actual Unlock codes for the phones, would it still be possible to Unlock them? Software or Code purchased from a third party?
She gave me a Case-Number to call so I could check at a later time, as well as verified my email so they could contact me. Not sure what to do in this situation.
Any answers would help. Thanks in advance.
I unlocked my Fuze that someone had given me (I'm in Australia) using one of the internet Unlocking services. Worked fine, but did cost me $20 or so. Thread here where I think I listed the service I used near the end...

As someone already pointed out - for 20 bucks you can use a 3rd party service.
Interesting that those two Fuze IMEI are not in the ATT database - wonder if that means the units were reported stolen???

Just got an email today from AT&T for the other one, success.
Neither stolen, both were Registered with AT&T by the previous owner, then un-registered via phone service as he told them he had intent to sell them. Thus they weren't in the IMMEDIATE system, they were on file, but the Technical & Billing departments of AT&T were the only ones with access unless requested.
Everything is good though.

Recently I bought a HTC hero locked to 3 UK in white color from ebay. I then bought an unlocking code for it from ebay again as the phone is for my friend in India.
I had a few problems with the unlocking seller and I left him a negative feedback last night. He has now replied threatening me that I have 24 hrs to remove the feedback or he will, and I quote, "HARDLOCK" my phone forever. The phone will become unusable completely according to him.
Now I work for Orange UK customer services myself and I do understand "BLACKLISTING" and would like to confirm from you guys that if this is what he is threatening me with or there is another way to "HARDLOCK" Android phones which make them unusable. Obviously he has my IMEI no. which I had to give him to generate the unlocking code.
The seller is also a registered USA seller and that makes me think that if there is something else called "HARDLOCK" as not sure how will he manage to blacklist my phone from USA. And if it is the blacklisting he is on about then I suppose I don't have anything to worry as the phone is going to be used in India anyway.
I have reported the emails under harrasment to ebay already and will be reporting it to police as well.
Please someone shed some light on this and thanks in advance

I purchased an unlock code from *htcsimunlock.com and then inserted my TMO UK sim. Phone booted up and then it asked me for the unlcock code. I enter it and it comes back as a sim error. I tried this with a TMO US sim too and had the same result. The company will not return my emails either so I am not getting much luck on that end either (buyer beware).
So, I thought I would come to the one place I always seem to get answers, whether I like them or not :crying:
Ideas please? Cheers.

Unfortunately, they sent you the wrong unlock code. The code is associated with the IMEI of the phone, not the SIM card.
Keep trying to contact them.

Thanks drtolson. I realize that the the IMEI is the basis for the CU. My problem is after it asks me for the unlock, I get an invalid sim error message. I think you may have misundertood my question.
I have tried repeatedly to contact them but they just ignore me. Not cool I know but thats the fact of it.
The only thing thats related here is the fact that both sim's have been TMO. I can't imagine it being an issue and it has not been with all the phones I've unlcoked before... I'm stumped.
The reason that you are getting the invalid sim error message is because the unlock is not working, then it detects that the sim is not an AT&T sim and says that it is invalid. You need to get the right unlock code. And get a refund for the wrong one that they provided you.
Never use any imei unlocking services!
99% of operators lock the phones by themselves due to a huge leakage at the manufacturer's side.
So i, as an unlocking expert for last 20 years, advise you all guys NOT to use any IMEI based services.
Most of the unlocking websites are offering a wide range of unlocking services based on your IMEI number, but for last 3 years, the amount of successful unlocks via IMEI is greatly dropped down to 1%. So if you got your phone unlocked by IMEI today it does not mean that the next phone will also be unlocked.
Moreover - nobody will return you the money before they earn enough, most of them are buying the codes same way you do but in bulk and before they get enough to cover what they have spent to get it - no returns Sometimes no returns at all.
It's a huge cheating and a gamble. The feedbacks they leave on their websites are written by themselves. And there are lot of tricks you guys don't know.
So just DON"T USE IT!
Use online unlocking solutions where you can see what is happening and for sure there is a person behind the unlocking software, so at least you have a chance to return your money.

Certainly seems like I'm the victim of a scam here. Now I have to decide if the $15+/- I've paid is woth all the aggrevation and time of a charge back. I hate being rooted if you know what I mean...
I've tried to contact these guys three more times since this post all to no avail. Please guys, keep this in mind if you're looking for an unlock. Don't use w.htcsimunlock.com/.
Perhaps we should have a sticky of unlock guys we know to be legit. What about you maxrfon? You have any way to unlock an 8X?

I use www(dot)cellunlocker.net. My carriers is Rogers Canada, currently using Virgin Mobile (Acquire by Bell) unlock successful.

The chance to get the right code is based on the professionality of the service you use... a good service offers you fully refund if you send in Video with the missing functionality of the code.
There are a lot of cheaters on the customer-side too...
Also got scamed by *htcsimunlock.com , but i have called my bank, their money gateway and posted a complain. I hope they dont get the money, because its only reserved. Shame..

You know, now I'm not so sure... I also had a Lumia 900 and the battery went. ATT replaced it with a refurb and since my original phone was already unlocked by them they gave me the unlock code for that one too. I could never get it to work so I got on the phone with customer service. They took me through the steps and they could not get it either. They sent me another one again, warranty replacement and gave me an unlock code for that too. That didnt work.
Today I read this post on the Lumia forum; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056808 I tried it and it worked. It unlocked my Lumia. I think I'll try the 8X tonight and see. If it does get unlocked, I'll let you know.
I have nothing to lose by doing this now.

Should I say that I have bought another code at different site, and still no go! I think that some providers changed unlocking codes for our devices.

I have just pre-ordered my S6 through EE.
The thing is, my EE contract is just one I had left over from years ago and thought I'd use it to upgrade. My main number that I use is with O2.
I explained this to EE, and they were as helpful as ever (not) and explained that they will not allow the phone to be unlocked during the 1st six months of the upgrade. Now, this is based on what they have said even with me offering to pay. However, if I was to get the phone unlocked by not going through EE, would this likely cause any problems? I suppose I'm just wondering whether they are able to monitor the IMEI number or anything.
What are people's thoughts?

I'm not 100% on what you are asking so sorry if I get the wrong end of the stick.
If you are referring to unlocking an EE phone they can't really tell, they will just have the details of the purchased device on the system (unless you tell them) so you can swap to whatever network. There shouldn't be any problems as nothing is really changed apart from a few lines of code saying you can use any network. Be careful as some companies provide fake codes to unlock, I have seen a suggestion to use www.samsungcodesource.com but a local shop may offer it where by you wont have to pay if they cannot unlock it.

I bought a samsung galaxy s5 off ebay 3 months ago. It would not update and i found it would not update due to the phone being rooted. I installed a stock rom and all worked fine. After using the phone for 3 months now the phone will not make or receive calls or texts. I called orange and they informed me the imei is blacklisted due to the phone being reported stolen. I paid checkmend for an imei report and the report has a red warning next to currently blocked but but under lost and stolen it says clear. I have also noticed that the imei on the back of the phone is not the same imei that the phones board has. I have opened a claim for a refund via Paypal on the matter.
My questions are as follows:
Do you think someone has changed the imei of the phone before I purchased phone?
When I flashed the phone back to a stock rom would this have changed the imei ?
My concern is that if I get refunded by the ebay seller or paypal and I return the phone would the buyer blame the phones imei problem on me as I changed back to a stock rom which has a different brand (virgin)

Talk of changing or altering imei numbers is not allowed on XDA, as it's illegal in most areas.
Members are free to offer ideas, but not tampering with the imei manually.

Probably not, since it is illegal and the seller wouldn't risk doing a crime just to sell a phone. I can't give you a definite answer though.

You won't get a refund if that's the case. If the seller admits to have changed the IMEI before selling it to you, or if he didn't pay off the phone or etc., then you get a refund. This is very common, people would buy the phone and sell it right away, making profit and eventually leaving a blacklisted phone to the buyer. If his reason was that you changed the ROM, then he will probably win the dispute. You should ask for a return though, if you get a refund, then you can get another phone, if not, then you're just at the same place you're at right now.
