I have an i727 with SKY ICS. Details below.
I am not hardcore with this thing, so I am not sure if my ROM is dangerous for the phone. I will say that last night, the battery died and when it did, I could not reboot it after charging. I had to use CWM to flash a saved image from about a month ago (I should be backing up more often).
I found this post, which I THINK says that all the i727 leaks are dangerous. Can any of you confirm that for me (he explicitly says ALL for other phones, but not for the i727).
If it's bad, can anyone suggest the best path for me here? Do I need to use Odin to flash a an older CWM to put the old image back on there? Where can i get a stock image? I see some info that ICS is out this month for it officially, but a lot of sub-posts calling those people idiots.
Thanks!

So, I've looked and looked, and found nothing.
I am on a basically stock G2x running stock 2.3.4. I have flashed CWM 5.0.2.0. So, how do I root? At this moment, I'm not worried about loading a customer ROM. I wanted ICS, but it looks a little too buggy for me right now. Regardless, before I do anything ROM wise, I need to root so I can use Titanium to do a full backup.
So, how do I JUST root without installing a custom ROM?

SuperOneClick also worked for me on 2.3.4. (Whichever tool you use, use at your own risk!)

Very important:
Before you go installing any ROMs you need to know you that your phone's baseband (sometimes abbreviated BB) is probably March 2012 (some refer to it as v21y baseband). You can verify by going to Settings > About Phone and scrolling down a little and looking for a month and a date in the baseband name (i.e. Mar 11 2012).
Here are a few of the many threads about the one problem you're going to have installing a custom ROM if you have a March 2012 (save kwes's modified 2.3.4 stock).

In summary: March 2012 baseband only works with 2.3.4 stock ROM and kwes's modified 2.3.4 stock ROM. If you flash another ROM you will not change the baseband so you will be stuck with a new and incompatible baseband that won't work with your ROM. The only way to change the baseband is to update using LG support tool. In other words, the only way to get a custom ROM problem-free in regards to baseband compatibility is to downgrade to stock 2.3.3 (which will downgrade both ROM and baseband) via LG Support Tool. All of the custom ROMs (including all of the ICS ones) work with, I believe, all of the 2011 basebands.
Nothing more nothing less

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'm on March 2012. Originally I wanted ICS, but the more I read about the issues, the more I think I should wait for the official release. The data drops would kill me, and I stream video a lot, so that would be out. Didn't LG say they would roll out ICS to the G2x in Q2 of 2012? I believe we are in Q2, woot! I just can't justify the risk vs. reward for a ROM change, unless you guys have suggestions... lol
Thanks again!
If you use the stock rooted kwes rom with that baseband you will have no issues at all...
Ive been running it for a few weeks and its as solid as rock...i have it OC'ed even and no issues ...
that baseband (march2012) has worked wonders for my phone...

LG has not stated the G2x would get ICS. The statement you are talking about it the European version P990 and has been move to 3rd Quarter now. I don't expect to get ICS as T-Mobile has EOL'd our device.

Head over to the i9100 forum there's instructions on root and roms

Usually once you ha e a custom ROM installed you can not use ota or official updates unless you go back to stock which some times can be difficult. I would imagine a search of the forum can find you an updated ROM or instructions to go back to stock.
I really need some help. Bought this Verizon S 3 on ebay. Perfect condition and no problems getting it on Straight Talk. However there is NO SVOICE app on the screen or in APPS. Also I'm missing several other options in setup i.e. update, motion and probably more. Current system is Android 4.1.1. Baseband vers. I535VRLG1 Kernel Ver: 3.0.42-cyanogenmod-g70b21fd [email protected]#1 Fri Sep 7 .
I don't know if the above helps but I'm happy to forward any information that may help. I don't need anything different than stock.
Thanks in advance.

Someone installed a custom ROM on it, looks like it's Cyanogenmod or something based off Cyanogenmod. Since it is not Touchwiz-based, it won't have the Samsung apps like SVoice that depend on the Touchwiz framework. If you want to get those apps, you can either Odin back to stock or install one of the custom Touchwiz ROMs.

Hi.
I'll try to keep it short.
My mom bought a phone from amazon titled "LG P990 Optimus 2X Unlocked".
We got it few days ago and she asked me to root and install cwm on it.
I thought it would be a really simple job (I myself have a galaxy s2), but I'm trying for a few days already without 100% success.
I tried treating the phone as an O2X but after successfully rooting it and trying to install a CWM not successfully, I opened the phone's case and saw that the model under the battery says: LGL95G.
The FCC ID is BEJP999DW.
Other info from the "About phone" section:
Code:
Model number: LG-P999
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAY 21 2012 16:00:00] MP:TRUGLE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: GRJ22
Software Version: LG-P999-V10c-USA-XXX
I'm starting to think I should treat the phone as an LG-P999, but it looks like the phone in this thread: link.
So, few questions:
1. Should I treat the phone as an LG-P999 (G2X)?
2. Should I install
[RECOVERY]CWM-Based Recovery 5.0.2.8 For P999(Internal & External SD) and then [ROM]Rooted Stock v21y 2.3.4 GRJ22 to achieve a phone with stock 2.3.4 rooted and cwm installed?
3. Is my baseband ok for the rom I linked here? It says
If you do not have the march 2012 baseband in call audio WILL NOT WORK. You have to update the baseband.

and i have the may 2012 baseband..
Thanks a lot in advance, I'm really tired of guessing
Waiting for your help.
That is the straight talk g2x use nvflash to put a recovery on it. It uses g2x files so you are in the right forum. Only use g2x stuff o2x stuff doesn't play right unless someone ported it

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, or if it's been resolved, but I have tried all the radios that are supposed to work with WIND Mobile, only to have completely garbled signal, I can hear others perfectly but they hear a robot/garbled noise. Here are my exact phone specs
Non rooted as of right now, no custom recovery right now either.
Rogers phone, factory unlocked.
Model Number SGH-I727R
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband Version I727RUXUMA7
Kernal Version [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 30 20:06:41 KST 2013
Build Number JZO54K.I727RUXUMA7
So if someone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.
How's your signal? Does the same thing happen with different phones? Trying to eliminate a few trees before you go digging around an entire forest.

Signal is always 3-5 Bars and connecting to 3G, and I haven't tried a different phone because I only have my SII and that's the phone I want on Wind, tons of people on here have reported their SII running flawlessly on the wind network, I just need someone to show me the best radio to use.
try the ics stock and see if its better, howto in my sig

This. There are a handful of Rogers radios out there, all linked from the superb stickies in vincom's signature.

I need this radio to pick up WIND Mobile though.
Seems like a hardware issue , if you say many with SR on wind around you report good connectivity (if you're completely stock , to eleminate custom roms problems) , other radios will not be magical solution ...

flash each radio yourself and test it out. you could test all the radios in about 30-45 min, rather than waiting for someone to tell you that a radio works good for them.
head to the sticky that vincom suggested and give each a radio a shot.

The modem keeps disappearing and I have to reflash it to get a signal again.
The phone will just lose the signal and rebooting etc, does not help it get back. You have to reflash the modem file again. This is very strange. I have never read any posts about this issue either.
carrier- Wind Mobile Canada - AWS network like T-Mobile.
It's Slim Rom 4.1.2 on a Skyrocket.
Modem is Blaze 4G LB7 (T-Mobile)

Everything works great but this issue turned up about 2 days after flashing. I wiped and formatted everything before I flashed the ROM.
