Usually once you ha e a custom ROM installed you can not use ota or official updates unless you go back to stock which some times can be difficult. I would imagine a search of the forum can find you an updated ROM or instructions to go back to stock.

How to Downgrade Nexus s from ICS to 2.3.6 Gingerbread?

Hey I am desperately looking to find how to downgrade my nexus s from the terrible ICS version back to Gingerbread.. I have already tried to flash into 2.3.6 and 2.3.4 using rom manager but got an "installation aborted" response.. I have read here that I can also do it using Odin but couldn't find enough info to understand how to do it. Plus, I am a MAC user but in case there is no solution for it using mac Ill love to get some directions for Windows users.. Any kind of help would be appreciated..
Thanks

use this thread and download correct version for your phone model then flash through cwm. make sure you download full rom.

just like what sean1984 told you, choose your correct full rom phone version from that link
in your case is "basband version: I9020"
worse case scenario search for Odin topic
and you can use Odin to go back to stock

if you are stock then you might have to root

[Q] leaked ICS on i727 always a bad thing?

I have an i727 with SKY ICS. Details below.
I am not hardcore with this thing, so I am not sure if my ROM is dangerous for the phone. I will say that last night, the battery died and when it did, I could not reboot it after charging. I had to use CWM to flash a saved image from about a month ago (I should be backing up more often).
I found this post, which I THINK says that all the i727 leaks are dangerous. Can any of you confirm that for me (he explicitly says ALL for other phones, but not for the i727).
If it's bad, can anyone suggest the best path for me here? Do I need to use Odin to flash a an older CWM to put the old image back on there? Where can i get a stock image? I see some info that ICS is out this month for it officially, but a lot of sub-posts calling those people idiots.
Thanks!

[Q] Help needed to root and update galaxy nexus i9250 to jellybean IMM76K.I9250XWLD2

Hi all,
I am a new user to Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I wished to root my device but however i am not too sure with the model i am having.
Model number : galaxy nexus
Android version : 4.0.4
Baseband version : I9250XXLA2
Kernal version : 3.0.8-gda625b
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 13 11:35:09 PDT 2012
Build number : IMM76K.I9250XWLD2
This is my phone's version and i think it is a GSM model. Because I am living in Malaysia and I am currently on GSM. But when i search online it shows that IMM76K is verizon model. So i am a little puzzled.
Hope anyone out there can help me. I would like to root it and update it to Jelly Bean.
Many Thanks
I am in the same position. I am attempting to install JB on a newly purchased Galaxy Nexus using the toolkit and have the IMM76K.I9250XWLD2 build number which shows in the toolkit as CDMA/Verizon but the phone is a GSM model... I am really unsure what my next move should be... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

F**king **** why no ones replies to this question?
please guys! help out THANKS!
Same here... Not sure if anything changed when I received the OTA update to 4.0.4 a couple of weeks ago... Doesnt make sense, I got this as an unlocked GSM phone and works fine here in Costa Rica. why is it a verizon now!!???
Unlock the bootloader
Use the toolkit to flash it back to IMM76I, google stock rom (all data will be wiped, please backup everything!)
Try see if you can get the OTA, its gonna be random and take sometime, you might want to try installing the OTA in zip form via CWM.

Rooting and CWM on a very strange phone (o2x front, g2x back, lg-l95g model)

Hi.
I'll try to keep it short.
My mom bought a phone from amazon titled "LG P990 Optimus 2X Unlocked".
We got it few days ago and she asked me to root and install cwm on it.
I thought it would be a really simple job (I myself have a galaxy s2), but I'm trying for a few days already without 100% success.
I tried treating the phone as an O2X but after successfully rooting it and trying to install a CWM not successfully, I opened the phone's case and saw that the model under the battery says: LGL95G.
The FCC ID is BEJP999DW.
Other info from the "About phone" section:
Code:
Model number: LG-P999
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAY 21 2012 16:00:00] MP:TRUGLE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: GRJ22
Software Version: LG-P999-V10c-USA-XXX
I'm starting to think I should treat the phone as an LG-P999, but it looks like the phone in this thread: link.
So, few questions:
1. Should I treat the phone as an LG-P999 (G2X)?
2. Should I install
[RECOVERY]CWM-Based Recovery 5.0.2.8 For P999(Internal & External SD) and then [ROM]Rooted Stock v21y 2.3.4 GRJ22 to achieve a phone with stock 2.3.4 rooted and cwm installed?
3. Is my baseband ok for the rom I linked here? It says
If you do not have the march 2012 baseband in call audio WILL NOT WORK. You have to update the baseband.

Click to collapse
and i have the may 2012 baseband..
Thanks a lot in advance, I'm really tired of guessing
Waiting for your help.
That is the straight talk g2x use nvflash to put a recovery on it. It uses g2x files so you are in the right forum. Only use g2x stuff o2x stuff doesn't play right unless someone ported it

Can a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3, I535, VRUCNC1 be rooted? What worked for you?

I got a Verizon Galaxy S3 i535 a couple of years ago. It was initially VRUCML1. I rooted it using guides from xda. It was upgraded to the current VRUCNC1. It ran 4.3. Several days ago, while using it as a debugging device on AndroidStudio, it bricked. The only successful solution I found was from a very helpful YouTube video "Unbrick HARD BRICKED Galaxy S 3 on Verizon (i535, CDMA).mp4".
I've unsuccessfully tried to re-root it, using about half a dozen, or more, guides. The inital rooting was successful, I think because the phone came with VRUCML1. There appears to be a lot of conflicting information -- even here on xda -- about whether or not VRUCNC1 can be rooted, as it is. Is it possible? If so, what worked?
Here is the data on my phone:
Device name: SCH-I535
Model number: SCH-I535
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version
3.0.31

Yes it is rootable via towelroot
Sent from my Nexus 5
Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try!
Updating my post. The towelroot works! I wasn't aware of it at all prior to this because I rooted a couple of years ago using an entirely different method that no longer works because it was originally made for VRUCML1 rather than the VRUCNC1 I'm running now.
I originally was perplexed because, using Mozilla on my phone, the "tr.apk" from the towelroot.com site displayed text-only. I thought the anti-virus was a problem so I turned that off but still no luck until I came across a post in which someone said to switch the phone browser to Opera and download it that way. This worked.
It was well worth the donation.
