I have HTC sensation.
In my recovery mode he show me that is my HTC locked and S-ON but when i boot in android 4.0.3 and check with Root Check app he show me this message :
"Congratulations!
This device has root access!"
I just want to know if this is possible?
Some root methods take advantage of exploits and can gain root access without unlocking the bootloader - it's entirely possible, and desirable to many as they can retain warranty service with an intact bootlader.
Now, if you didn't run one of those methods, then it's likely an error.
Try running an app that requires root to work and see if it does.
And I'm sure you'll get more information by checking the device-specific forums.
I try to install and use root access app's like : titanium backup , auto menager memory , droidsail super app2sd and all works for me.
Congrats!!!

hi all i found out how to enable root permissions
but what is superuser request for.
also can i upgrade my firmware from 1.6 to the newest version when my phone is rooted
I will reply to this... but for future reference it says no noobs on the forums desc. That would include questions like this that you can easily find on google. Superuser privileges allow you to do things that an unrooted phone will not. Firmware roms are easily up-datable, there's even an app for that (not intentional iPod reference) if you cannot find one online for your phone.
thanks koyhoy reason for asking was that i couldnt find decent descripton of super user request but knowing this i can continue rooting my phone.
Hope this is the right place to post this question. I'm so curious my cat has one life left.
How would you root a droid from scratch?
What's the process?
I realize the process would fill volumes, so all i'm looking for is some pointers on where I can find this info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=670
Assuming you mean the moto droid 1
If not just search the device and all that info is in the development section, read the first few posts or "stickies" to learn more
Hope this helps
It did help and thanks.
Please correct me where this is wrong but it seems that:
Rooting is simply the process of granting yourself superuser privileges on the phone.
If that's correct, then what, on a stock phone, is preventing me from getting root access to the phone?
How do I find whatever it is that's blocking root access?
How do I change the 'blocker' to allow root access?
A specific example on the process would be very informative.
I've been having trouble installing a new software update on my phone (HTC Desire 816, 4.4.2 KitKat) and I decided to give it another go today. My phone is rooted, I used CWM recovery and SU which I still use. When I let the phone do the automatic install, when the phone goes into recovery it says the path to the dl is invalid. Which I've checked and it seems the same to me. If I try to install it by going into the recovery mode and installing the zip it says "file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": no such file or directory". So I came on here to try to find answers and the threads I came across just lead to more questions. One thread said: "If I unlock the bootloader and root (including flashing wp_mod) my HTC Desire 816 but remain in my default stock ROM will I still receive software updates from HTC officially?", then goes onto ask questions regarding how the internal memory amt is an issue for game data size that cant be moved to the SD card. and if Link2SD work or if there's a way to "emulate /link the ext SD and Int SD, and if busybox is required. The reply talks about Xposed module installation, busybox on rails, Xposed Framework, and S-ON.
I am a beginner with this type of stuff. I can do basic things (like root my phone and such), so the more information the better. But what is all the stuff that is being referred to and will any of it help me with my situation. I am always looking to learn more about the things I can do with my phone, So the more the better. I just need a complete work through, no steps skipped. And Lastly, I'm looking for the stock ROM for my phone if it's anywhere., but I'm hoping for the US version for Virgin Mobile, just in case I screw it up and need to revert back or just feel like going back to basic. Thank You
Hi,
Here is my suggestion. You want to learn and that's awesome! Learning this stuff requires lots of reading, googling, searching xda and reading stickies in your device section (the top threads in sections with thumb tack icons on them)
So, here is the desire 816 section...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816
I'm the general section, you'll find information... Guides, tutorials and whatnot, for many things. In Q&A section you can find questions others have asked, as well as more information threads too. You can read the summary of the other sections, but those 2 have a wealth of knowledge in thread already.... You won't often find people repeat it all, especially the many things you've asked, when the information is already out there. ?
If you get stuck on something, ask for help in your Q&A section for that device. ?
Good luck!
Device: HTC One (M9)
I tried to root my smartphone including unlocking bootloader and so on...
I used the tutorial linked down below.
https://youtu.be/rOHN8byHAzk
I had no issue during the process. The only thing that didn't work was the recovery of the file "UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip". Therefor I used the beta file (BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip) and with that it worked!
After recovering with the beta file i had the app SuperUS pre installed. I used the app "Root Checker Basic" to verify that the root access is available and it was!
After that I started to install further root apps like "Emoji Switcher" for instance. I realised that the root apps didn't work. They had access and there were no errors by executing the apps or executing the action but it simply noting happend, even after restarting and as well after recovering the phone again.
Does anyone have a conclusion? Would appreciate any help!
A small thing is also.. I noticed that by downloading apps from the play store (multiple downloads) it sometimes happens that the error 923 pops up. A restart of the device helped for a while.
My last try was to reset the phone. After that the app syncing worked fluently but the root apps still didn't work.
Thanks and kind regards
