Is this a myTouch 4G? - myTouch 4G General

EDIT: I found out there is a section for it, here. Sorry for wasting your time!
Hello
I thought this phone was called an HTC Magic, but it appears there is no section for it here. Upon searching myTouch on Google, I get a photo of it.
Here is a photo of the phone I took:

(Had to resize it to a width of 500px as it didn't resize automatically)
My question - Is this a myTouch4G? I always called it a Magic.
Anyway, I want to know because I plan to experiment with this phone and install different ROMs etc, see what I can do with it (I've since owned an HTC Desire HD (which has now been lent to my mother, we don't buy separate phones now, she just takes my older ones as you will see why a couple of sentences on )and now a HTC One X) but I need to be sure I don't go off installing ROMs for another phone.. It's served myself, and then my mother (who has been using traditional phones, she's not very "tech-savvy") for near 3 years!
The phone is currently on Android ver 2.2.1.
Thanks to anyone who can help me

Lol. Welcome to XDA.

Damn, it looked like a GS3 til I scrolled all the way down. I was like what an ass... Lol

I think that's a MyTouch 3G. Not 100% but most likely. Look up HTC Magic on the cyanogenmod wiki it'll give you other names of it as well.

That's a magic, all right. On TMobile it was named the MyTouch3G. On Vodaphone, it was the HTC Magic. It's almost 3 years old. You can't put any of todays roms on it. Gingerbread is slow like molasses on that thing. I don't think you can give those away now, but it brings back memories.

Thanks. It's very slow. I only wanted to see what I could do with it, without worrying about bricking it, because if I did, it wouldn't matter.

Actually, it is a htc magic. You can put roms on it and its somewhat slow, but not that slow. I had the Mytouch 3G and in order to flash roms you need to boot into bootloader and see if its PVT Board 32A or 32B. If its 32A you're gonna like the development a lot better. Also you need to know how to change the engineering bootloader I'm sure a sub-forum thread will show you how to do that.

Nope, nothing definite yet. You'll know it is getting close when you see a leaked ROM come up as a story on the tech sites, as you see with most other phones who get their updated ROMs leaked.

+1. Usually you'll see an article on Android Central or Phandroid when one leaks.
Yeah I did some searching before posting. Was just hoping for a definitive answer. Thanks guys

I don't care what day it gets released anymore. It's probably going to take a long while knowing AT&T. I just want it to hurry up and get leaked.

I hear ya on that! A leaked ROM would tell me that it is in the pipeline and would be released in a couple, or a few months afterwards. After seeing all the other HTC phones get leaks of gingerbread, (Evo, Evo Shift, Desire, Desire HD, and Thunderbolt), getting official announcements, or actually receiving the updates, I'm wondering where our leak is. I'm not complaining, just would like to see a leak soon to know it is coming. I just would like us to get word of a leaked ROM, preferably before they officially announce the rumored Holiday. Especially since the Holiday is gonna be my next phone after I hit my upgrade.

There was a leaked ROM for the unbranded DHD a weeks or so ago. Surprised I haven't seen any ROMs based on it yet. I've been running it for a week or so and it seems super stable.

So how long until we get Mango?

according to the picture below, it looks like HTC is pushing out our phone loaded with WP on it (aka HTC Titan). Thoughts?

**Mango on our Inspires?
Do you guys think it's going to happen? HD2 has the best situation - WinMo, Android, WP.
Yuck. Get that out of my sight. Who made that OS, a bunch of first graders? (nice tiles...).
Not gonna happen. If you want your inspire to look like a wp7 then get the launcher for it. Mango will never be for the inspire.

I would love to see it happen. I'm always up for something new on our phones
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
I have always had 2 phones, either for my self or one for me and one for my wife.
We have run multiple os's apple from the first iPhone all the way through the iPhone4, early adopters to wp7 with Samsung Foci (multiple focus), WM - WM6.5 on a plethora of devices (too many to name) and our first android phones with the Inspire 4G (3.5). I have always "played" with mine and left her's stock...always having a base to compare to.
Our least favorite of the OS's has been the WP7 as it gets old FAST....I know our phones don't have the greatest spec's compared to many that are currently out there but for the most part it works great and is easy to customize. Not so much with WP7...please keep it off our phones

[Q] TMOB vs. International

So,
I haven't really had a solid answer to this question. What, if any, are BIG downsides to flashing an internation ROM onto a TMO US phone? Are there any discrepancies as far as usage.
I'm using TMOUS TrickDroid ROM (and absolutely nothing against torxx), I just want to mess around with a couple others - not sure yet - but I want to mess around with others, including International ROMs.
Any solid answer to this? I've read about potential Data speed discrepancies.
Thanks all!
-Brian
I had data issues when I used an international rom on my T-Mobile one s

Some perceive data issues on eu roms because you see the 3g/h go back and forth, but really the same thing is happening on tmous roms. Only difference is that tmous always keeps the 4g icon up rather its 3g or h, so it appears to be more stable but is not.

What you say about T-Mobile is true but I didn't not have a perceived data issue. Data on my Ville would straight up drop when I had an EU ROM on it. As in no data.

Im on bin droid and I havent had any data drops at all. I did upgrade to the newest radio so maybe that helped

I'm currently on leedroid and have no issues, solid signal. I reach dl speeds of around 20mbs so I'm happy

I have read some members here on XDA take both sides on this issue. Some say it does not make a difference. Others say it does.
Personally for me the connection seems to be slower and more unreliable when flashing an international Rom on a T-Mobile USA device.
Right now I am on LeeDroids Rom with the stock tmobile radio. I did some quick speed tests so you see what I mean.

I really think upgradig the radio will help some people out I upgraded mine and it really helped with data switching. I know the method in the development section is not for the faint of heart but its definitely worth it

Upgrading the radio is really important for signal etc.

How is the s4 a minor update? Its packing a octocore all you consumers is the same. If they came out with a 200mhz phone 1mb ram an sf 3.7inch screen just because it looks pretty you would say its the best phone in the world its just not about looks its about what it packs under the hood like Samsung good luck waiting a year to unlock your boot loader while us Samsung people is running the latest version of android LOL

I don't think you understand what HTC means to smartphones and Xda-developers. HTC was the company that started it all long before Apple came out with the I-phone. I am not sure how old you are but way back in the day around the 2004-2005 era. We used to have these things PDAs (personal digital assistant). Basically it was the first hand held computers. Well HTC came along and reinvented the phone world with something similar to these PDAs. What HTC did was take the idea of a PDA and build it into a phone. On top of that they thought it would be a good Idea to add a data connection to this new "smart" phone that way it had access to the internet. This evolutionary idea of crossing a phone line with a data line in one phone became known as the HTC XDA (x meaning the cross of data and a phone line). There is a reason HTC is highly regarded on xda and that's because HTC started this all. So lets get one thing straight, if it wasn't for HTC this website and smartphones in general wouldn't exist they way we know them now. Better show a little respect lol

I'm done with them too. I want them to change their mind about this but, if they do, it won't change my mind about my next phone NOT being an HTC.

The amaze 4G got only a SINGLE update even that was for ics sense 3.6 even tho it has much more better hardware specs than most of their newer devices, many patents were signed but they didn't change their mind!! They also cornered amaze 4G with twilink chip set which no other htc phone has so even porting roms wouldn't be successful htc is real assy when it comes to updates so even I signed to give them a hard time good luck one s users hope you'll get the update so we can port broken sense 5 least haha
