There is NO best kernel, just like there is NO best ROM. People use different settings that can make their experience vastly different then yours!
I've said it before and I'll say it again... just flash and see! Try out a kernel for a week or two, flash another one! It takes 2 mins of your time and you get to form you own opinion from your own use.
Just my .02 anyway

I agree with NYYFan325. Everyone should try different ROMS and KERNELS to find the best combination for yourself. I am with this: ROM: Slim ICS 4.0; KERNEL: Matr1x v.22; Unlocked; Rooted; Ondemand~Noop; 100 - 1000 MHz; Deep Idle - ON and the result is this: Screenshot 1; Screenshot 2; Screenshot 3; Screenshot 4
Currently the best result for me gives Matr1x. The latest version is very stable and fast (v.22).
Just try a few KERNELS. There is a theme with collected KERNELS and ROMS.

I had the best screen on time with Ink-Cm9 kernel. Over 5 hours. Next time i got 4 and half hours.

If Matrix is undervolted, wouldn't it cause a bootloop once you install it on a phone that does not handle it well?

Hey guys, thats my first post.
Please, I'm going to root my nexus s and try the matr1x kernel. I have to flash a Custom ROM or can I Just flash the kernel with original ROM?
Thank you.

You can flash Matr1x while remaining on a stock rooted ROM; you don't need a custom ROM.

Don't listen to mathkid! He's just the developer! I'm the tester and I'm telling you, flash a custom ROM! NOW! QUICKLY! BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!:

Just kidding. Matr1x will work well with stock ROM.

Thank you, I'm rooting right now. I hope Matr1x fix the battery drain, because it's impossible to use the stock kernel...
--> EDIT
I've installed the Matr1x kernel, doing a full charge. I do this procedure:
1 - Clear malvik cache
2 - Install kernel
3 - Data wipe
Anything else I should do?
Thanks!

Anything different in flashing this? Just go through clockwork, wipe and update? Also, and this is a general question, not necessarily pertaining to this ROM...If I flashed a ROM that updated/changed the kernel (like Syndicate Full), do I need to flash back to a different kernel before changing ROMs?
Thanks in advance.
Awesome I first started with your rom and loved it, I switched because it was getting mostly theme changes. Now I seyou have a froyo rom I'm comming back.

Just posted the flashing instructions to the first post.
Nice, been running the first version and it's definitely had the best battery life out of all the froyo roms I've tried (prob 4 or 5)
I remember someone from the other topic saying something about double clicking space not inserting a period and no auto-correction but I'm not having those problems. Might have been fr a different rom tho.

Shouldn't need to. As long as you have the latest modem.
if youve done it initially for any dk17 rom you dont need to again because this is based of of dk17
Confused question, I have the dk17 is that the modem? Or where can I look to see if I have it

Can we upgrade 1.3.00 (aka 2.0.00) to 2.0.01 without wipe?
Pretty sure you need to wipe because 2.1 and 2.2 are almost completely differant. And if not it would be a good precaution to do so.

Another thing I have noticed with these FroYo ROMs is that if you leave the keyboard open the keyboard lights randomly turn on and off (whether its plugged in or not), anyone else notice that? I am wondering if this happens with the keyboard closed and possibly be a parasite draining the batt when not actively using the phone?

The NexusBeam ROM is based on stock ICS 4.0.3. This is the same update that has been pulled by Google for issues regarding WiFi, CPU spikes and massive battery usage.
I wouldn't worry about your battery - it is most likely connected to the problems that people are experiencing with stock ICS 4.0.3.
Hope this helps.

Whoa, I would try the following things.
1. UV a little more
2. Change governor and maybe increase min clock speed
3. Disable deep idle
4. Change rom
If none of those work, lemme know.
I am not kidding with #4. That does help a lot

[ROM]Rooted Stock v21y 2.3.4 GRJ22 + Add-Ons in the OP

As the title says this is the new v21y update rooted. You must have the march 2012 baseband or in call audio will not function properly.
Disclaimer:
Not responsible for anything that happens to your device. It is yours and you flash at your own free will.
ROM includes:
v21y 2.3.4 update
Root -unsecured boot.img
init.d support
deodexed (was already that way in the update)
zipaligned
I did not remove any of the bloatware in this version, you should know how to do that yourself.
Known issues..
If you do not have the march 2012 baseband in call audio WILL NOT WORK. You have to update the baseband.

Sorry that I can't be much help. I know just about enough to be dangerous. I do know how to take my phone back to stock after I have bricked it!!
But, I do love MIUI and I am running it on my phone and my Nook. I have been watching this thread from the first day and I want to say thanks to everyone involved!!
And you, also, Pony....don't think they could have done it without your help....Now if we can just talk them into working on the NookColor!!!!!!!!
OP updated to include latest MIUI -Jellybean release.

Much easier the having to use the Play Store. The MIUI rom will include a Themes App. Just tap that and you have access to many different themes.
Here's a screen shot of my app folders.
I noticed that apps are not installed to /data like in other ROMs. Are they just hidden or are they stored elsewhere?
Since Miui v4 my infuse's gps stopped working. I turned on the 3 location options in settings but it's no good either. This only happens in MIUI v4 roms, I flashed other JB roms and the gps works okay again. Anyone can help me on this?

Thanks D, not a requirement, but would likely make things easier.
xdahgary, hit dparrothead1, not him, his thanks button- it would most likely be smoother to flash an ICS rom first. I suggest, based on my experience, Entropy's CM10 Unofficial. Read his instructions for install/ Note that it is common after flashing to get stuck on the Samsung logo. It tells you what to do. Others are here to help, I will be back in 2 hrs.
Another thing. Usually my phone can locate my position with Wifi or 3g but with miui it cannot. It always requires gps which is hard to reach when I'm inside. Why does this happen?

MIUI China has changed their location based services to whatever China's "google" is called. It is a known issue and it is being addressed.
Is it just me or does the browser not support flash?

So, is this under the Apache Licence 2.0, like Android requires?
Still, thanks for the convenience of packing this up.

This is a pretty smooth build. Not sure how I feel about some of the changes.
Especially the clock on the lockscreen...
Wow, in 17 minutes there were 34 downloads and 3 thanks
I'm sad
TNX for stock 4.2. Can I install this on top of Smooth rom 4.1 with bricked kernel ? I will do full wipe from cwm.
+1 -- Same question
So can I flash this like nothing in CWMR? I'm on dark pa 2.54 but I know I have to wipe but once its flash will I still have root/su?

Not sure, I never used those ROMS but I dont see why not. I would, however, recomend updating the new bootloader to be more "compatible" with the ROM.
When Asus changes bootloaders they always change something... IDK, they just do

You will have full root access to include an unsecured kernel for ADB remount, push, etc...

Hi, thanks for the ROM. Installing this I will get new 4.2 bootloader and radio?
BR.
I guess the new booloader is not compatable with older ROMs?

It includes everything that is in the stock ROM but I also took the liberty of updating about 5 apps that were out of date in the stock ROM.
