WiFi tether free from the play store. Power off phone, take out battery for three seconds, put back in power up do this each tethering session. Make sure routing fix is checked, disable wake lock, use channel 11, check set up wext ad hoc, device profile generic ICS, DNS 8.8.8.8. ,Lan 192.168.20 24, transit power disabled. SSID Android tether. Then you should be good to go. If you get a error message, power off , remove battery, wait 3 seconds, put battery back power on you should be good to go! I've found this app working perfectly in 3 out of four different Roms I've tried. Hope this helps and happy tethering!

Same settings . I know that sense 4 has trouble tethering but so far its been working wonderfully.works on ordroid too. Give it a shot. Works for me and I

192.168.20.24 isn't that an ip adress ? If so i wouldnt post it here lol..
Swyped From My Sensation.
It's the ip for an adhoc connection between phone an pc. There's a whole bunch of presets in the app. Posting them here doesn't matter.

For those trying to tether earlier Android versions, Gingerbread etc, I found the standard wifi-tether app wouldn't work.
Instead I found 3.1 beta 11 on the web, then simply changed the device-profile to Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE).
It works perfectly and no need to reset or battery pull either.

Anyone know where I can get a working WiFi Tether apk for CM7? The one I have from CM6 isn't working.
The stock tethering app works fine for me
Why wouldn't you use the built in hotspot? It works great.
You just need to use the built in hotspot, under wireless settings. You have the same features, can change the ssid, and password encrypt it. I'm using it right now.

use the built-in tether app. To make it really easy add it to a PowerControl widget (add widget to screen, select "Portable WiFi Hotspot" from the list of options).
If you don't want to use it, the other best one (in my experience) is called something like "Wireless Tether for Root Users"
Just use the built-in option under wireless settings...
Or check THIS page

When I try and enable the built in Portable Hotspot it immediately deselects and says "Error." Any ideas?

This. Thanks for the help guys and putting up with a lame thread.
Not lame for asking a question. You could have posted this in the development section.
Sweet, looks like restarting helped, my 4G speeds still sucks though in this area, i restarted and threw 4G and tethering on and tested my speed on my ipod touch and got .32Mbps/.21Mpbs and my battery was draining 1% per minute, lol.
Running CM7-n#14
I love the built in tether, but is there a way to make a widget for it? I'm just lazy and don't like having to jump through menus haha.
Its built into the power control widget.

The only steps I take when using the tethering app is change the ssid to my personal choice, and then open the access control and set it up for security by only allowing my laptop to connect. As for the d/l speeds, that really depends on your individual situation. Since I have wimax available, my speeds are very good. Hope this helps ...

Here's specifically what I do ...
Leave the device profile on auto, leave the setup method on auto, do not enable encryption. Check the boxes on access control, vibrate on connect, and disable wake lock. Next, I start the tethering ... once connected, go into access control through the menu, where you will see the mac address of your connected device. Check the box, and save through the menu. This will secure your signal so that no one else can connect. I then will turn off the tethering and then re-start the tethering app. This will allow the access control to start with the saved configuration. Sorry if this is too elementary ... just wanted to be helpful with the details.

Leaving the device on auto & auto put my tether in an 'ad hoc' network. If you want it to be more like an actual wireless router then change the device profile to Google Nexus One and Setup Method to softap(master). That will create an 'infrastructure' network meaning just about anything with a wireless connection should connect to it. My friends PS3 can't connect to ad hoc networks, so I played around with it for a bit.
Hope this helps in anyway.

Heyyyy...Guysss
Anyone is having the solution for Wi-Fi Tethering in OrDroid 9.0 ???
Please suggest me something...I'm heavy user of Mobile HotSpot....
Wifi Tethering is broken in Ordroid, Just change ROM if you really need it.
Or wait for shnizlon to fix it
No need to change roms! Please use wifi tether from the playstore it works perfectly! Yes it works with ordroid! Its all in the settings. It goes as follows, always power off device remove battery place back in power on each routing session that said here are the settings, make sure routing fix is checked, disable wake lock. Check set up wext ad hoc, device profile, generic ics, DNs, 8.8.8.8, lan,192.168.2024, transit power disabled, you are good to go.if it starts with a error, just do the power off battery pull. You will have tethering again. Its a free app in the playstore called wifi tether. Hope I helped! Happy tethering

You should try another Rom . Ordroid will not be getting any updates. It is finished. However its developer moved to team venom on viper Rom.so perhaps give viper a try . Hope this helps.

So the unlocking of the boot loader was simple with Motorola's instructions on their website. Now all I need to figure out how to do is fix the USB tethering so it simply works...
Anyone know how to do this yet? I know there are programs that you can install/use but I don't want to use those.
Not sure if it has the option to do that out of box or not but if it does and its not working, I remember someone saying it is picky with what USB cable you use.
Or by programs you mean not installing programs on the PC? and not by apps?
I know it doesn't out of the box. Just trying to find a fix for it.

It is hard to say as it varies per phone, try going to google play and searching for usb tether and try a few. If none work, in WORST case you can make a Proxy on your phone and then route your internet through the proxy on your browser. Though any reason why Wifi/Bluetooth is not an option?
Tried some of the apps on the market, none are working. PdaNet won't even install. Usb is preferred, wifi or bluetooth would be fine for now. How do you setup the proxy? Ive never done that on a phone yet.

you mean doesn't let you install from sprint market? or doesn't work when you open it? you can download the apk directly on the developers site or download it on Amazon appstore.
App market doesn't allow the download. I'm going to try to find the apk for pdanet, i do have the license for the full version of that. All that i have been able to download just haven't worked. Ill let ya know what i can figure out.

Okay... i got PDA Net working. Had to download the apk elsewhere other than the market where its not allowed. That allows usb, bt, and wifi. I guess this will work for now until some devs get some fixes out for the new photon Can't be driving around the country without internet for my laptop...

This is why I just use Amazon Appstore, no silly carrier locking. And it keeps the locked apps updated.

Any results yet? I'll buy this phone or not depending on whether PdaNet can work.
BTW how is its reception in low signal areas,
and does its GPS work reasonably well?
I'm looking to replace a 2yo Samsung Epic 4g whose

but can tether

I just went from my Epic 4G... The Photon Q has a lot better signal strength than the Epic. PdaNet is working great. I downloaded it from here: http://www.apkfullapps.com/2012/03/pdanet-pro-v350-apk-app.html I selected rapid gator, it comes as p350.zip and contains the apk for the phone, and both 32 & 64 bit versions of the computer app needed.
You will need to buy a license for it to be able to visit https sites. Here is their site:
http://junefabrics.com
The GPS seems to be working great. I've had no issues with it yet so far. Always seems to be accurate, and fast at getting the original location. I'm hoping that soon enough I won't have to use PdaNet to tether anymore now that motorola released the kernal source. That makes it a lot easier for our devs to get new roms and fixes out for it
after rooting with shabby's cwm, I tried Wi-Fi tether, but I couldn't connect to the hotspot. I opened an issue with the Google project
Sent from my CM9 Epic 4g Touch using Forum Runner
My USB tethering works right out of the box. I just hooked it up to my PC, let the included Motorola software install the relevant drivers and turned on the option in the settings. Bam, had my desktop online. It takes it a few moments to connect and sometimes you have to play with the setting or unplug it/plug it back in etc. before it works. I sometimes get a message that my plan may not support tethering, but that always goes away if I just poke at the setting a couple more times. Patience seems to be the key. Sometimes it takes a little while for the network to be identified by Win7-64, which is what I am using.
I'll try WiFi hotspot later and see if my bridge can connect to it ...
Infrastructure Wifi Tether
I have found that with my Photon Q, after I unlocked it and rooted, I downloaded the newest "Wifi Tether For Root Users" off the Play Store and out of the box it worked.....as ad-hoc....I have found that if you go into the settings of Wifi Tether and hit "Change Device-Profile" and choose "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)" then choose "Change Setup-Method" and hit "Netd (master)" then setup the Wifi Tether to your liking it will work without a problem on infrastructure.

Thanks for the link! Got it up and working and was able to verify that I can connect to work and run apps from Citrix while talking on the phone, SVDO for the win! Now I'm ready for the next time I lose cable at home and I need to work.
Installed the Wifi Tether and installed using zrmxp95's directions. I can connect to the network with my ipad, however the phone only only recieves about 4kb of data and then the webpage never loads. I can hit refresh on the ipad, and it will load another 4kb and do the same thing.
I was wondering if it was possible to set up different profiles for what is turned on at certain times instead of having to pull down the quick settings and select each toggle every time.
I would like to have mine set up to do this:
Home - Wifi On, BT off, GPS off, wireless network off.
Car - Wifi Off, BT on, GPS off, wireless network on, pandora started, app remote (from sony) started.
Work - Wifi off, BT off, GPS off, wireless network on.
i found this thread where somebody was looking for something very similar but i'm sure something else has come along since '07: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300605
