Today I will attempt to discuss the best combination of case and screen protectors for the Inspire 4G. We will go over Maximum Protection, Medium Protection, Little Protection, and Very Little Protection.
Maximum Protection
• Otterbox Defender
• ZAGG Invisible Shield or Realook SP
Pros:
• Being able to throw your phone out of a two story window without damage, to put it into perspective.
Cons:
• Extra Bulk, to the point of not being pocketable.
This is ideal for: People that do hard work, such as oil drilling, construction, or mechanics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Medium Protection
• Otterbox Commuter or Case-Mate Tough
• Realook SP
Pros:
• See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979663 (Be warned, the Case-Mate Tough could probably handle everything the commuter can except that.)
Cons:
• Slightly More Bulk
• Not "Throw Your Phone Out a Window" Type of Protection
This is ideal for: The clumsy person who works at an anti-cubicle job, such as gardening or working as a house maid.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Little Protection
• Case-Mate Barely There or Case-Mate Pop
• Realook SP or Case-Mate Clear Armor
Pros:
• Protection from things such as falls and bumps against tables and what-not.
Cons:
• Protection only enough for small falls and bumps, anything else will likely result in damage.
This is ideal for:[/B The cubicle worker, who is not very clumsy and takes care of their electronics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very Little Protection
• TPU Cases or any type of Gel Case.
• Screen Protector from AT&T Store and such.
Pros:
• Some Protection against very small falls and bumps
Cons:
• Very Little Protection, if you don't take care of your phone, you're likely to break it/scratch it/etc.
This is ideal for: The person who babies their phone, and has a job that requires very little physical movement.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is all.

Good stuff...
The Otterbox Defender will be the next case I pick up. I'm using a Seidio Innocase II right now and I do like it, but the Otterbox is the Cadillac of phone cases. Great thread.

Besides the missing flash for the camera, the fingerprint addicted plastic cover of the otherwise great Galaxy S has been the main target of critics.
To solve this issue there are a lot of extra covers available. Some replace the original accu cover, some span the whole phone.
I myself have been looking quite some time to find the right cover for me and ended up with some covers in my possession.
I hope to be of any help to others on the same journey I give you a short review and comparison of the covers I got here. Pics included.
To clarify what we are dealing with I'll start with the original cover.
Original Galaxy S cover
Few to add. Standard cover that comes with the phone.
Pro:
- free
Contra:
- attracts fingerprints as light the moth
- slippery
- cheap look
Mumbi silicon case
I bought this from amazon for around € 5. Main purpose was to protect the phone for my vacation abroad.
Pro:
- Great grip and handling. The former slippery tiny SGS becomes a real something in your hand.
- cheap
- good protection against dropping damage
- makes your phone a real outdoor device
Contra:
- adds about 2 mm to each sides
- gives the stylish SGS a real tweedy look.
- attracted dust and fabric fibres in the pocket
- display is hard to clean - you cant just rub it anywhere because the cover stands over the display about 1 mm.
Case Mate barely there silicon cover
This one was a present from my wife and is my favourite so far.
Pro:
- nothing slippery anymore. Great grip.
- adds barely some width to the phone
- looks very clean
- doesn't attract dust ore fibres
- very tight
Contra:
- quite expensive ( well not for me )
- sometimes a little hard to apply or get off the phone. I was at first affraid I might damage the hull of the SGS but its fine since a lot of on-off.
- will probably stain underneath cover, see: Update.
Long-term information:
After using the barely there cover for some weeks I noticed some damageto the underlying basic cover . So if you are using a softer basic cover underneath the barely-there-casemate-cover you will likely notice som stains after a while. Not a big issue, but for me I decided to reattache the original basic cover to avoid spoiling my nice rubbery basic cover.
Matte black accu cover from ebay
This cover attracted my attention via the SGS Matte/rubberized battery cover-Thread in this very forum. It's nearly perfect for me and I use it under any extra cover. Update: Well not anymore - see update for casemate-barely-there above.
Pro:
- Good grip (though not a good as the Case Mate Cover)
- cheap (about € 7 incl. shipping via ebay)
- adds no extra space to the phone
Contra:
- No extra protection
Nillkin Tough Shield
This case was provided by www.casesss.com and can be purchased there. It came with the two Rock Naked Shell covers. It is very similar to my favourite (the case mate barely there cover), but has some definite advantages.
For overall comparison I added a picture of the case mate, the Nillkin and the Rock cases.
Pro:
- its about half the price (in €) as the case mate cover from amazon.de
- this Nillkin case DOES NOT have this ugly stand offs that damage your underneath cover (See details at the case mate review above).
- Overall good quality, good grip and perfect fit.
- Screen protector shield included
Contra:
- None, so far.
Note:
I will add some long term use infos about the cover in the futere.
Rock "Naked Shell" Cover
This one was also supplied by www.casesss.com. It's tends to become my new favourite. It is labeled to be used with the Galaxy S Plus i9001 - but as both share the same form, it also fits for the Galaxy S i9000. It comes with a free screen shield and a little plastic stand. This also lacks the annoying little rubber stand-offs that go with the barely there case (see details there).
Pro:
- Its very silky and smooth. Great feel and look!
- No stand-offs that damage your basic cover
- Good price
- Shield included
- plastic stand included
Contra:
- None, so far
Note:
Long term use info will be given.
Rock "Naked Shell Pearly Red"
Another one from www.casesss.com. It has a nice pearly look I havent seen so far. Very classy! Feels equally silky as the black Rock Naked Shell cover. As all Rock Cases it also comes with free screen shield and plastic stand (see pics above).
Pro:
- Unique look
- Good price
- Perfect fit
- No stand-offs
- Shield included
- plastic stand included
Contra:
- None so far
Note
Long term infos will be added.

Mesh cover WHITE Galaxy S by DeGygii
purchased at www.Ricardo.ch
Pro:
- very stylish
- is realy thin
- fits perfect
- not slippery coz of the holes
- protects the phone from drops
Contra:
- not rubberized
- a bit expensive (15 €)

Hello mate, i like ,,Matte black accu cover from ebay'', this is the right one for me. Is it from ebay.de cuz i cant shop from ebay, so i will have to ask a friend who lives in Germany. In Romania we cant find only the rubber case for i9000.
Thanks for the info
Just check the thread I linked. As I say: Its from ebay, yes. Just check the Thread and see for youself where they ship to.
Greets DMX
Great comparison, bought few covers but didn't really like them (most shops around here ain't carrying them so have to buy online).
Think i'll get case mate now, didn't wanna bother spending money on it, incase it turned out like rest of the covers
Glad to be of assistance. dont forget the Thanks Button
I love the Casemate Barely There case! I've been using it for 7 months now,I love it. Highly recommended!
The look and feel is really good, the material that they used is not sticky or a "lint magnet" compared to other cases.
Nice comparison there dude, i got a SGP Ultra Slider instead in the end due to the buttons thingie (case mate barely there last i check had a rubber piece protecting the buttons)Sad thing is cases for SGS are hard to get here too
Thanx. I'll try to add more and more Cases on the go. If anybody has a suggestion, shoot. I`ll be happy to add more Cases.
SGP Ultra Silke
Hi there,
I bought the SGP Ultra Silke Case about a month or two ago and I'd like to offer my opinion on the case.
The case is made out of silicone but it is apparent that there is some sort of matte/anti grip coating that feels like...paper. However, there's none of the roughness, so it feels like very smooth, high quality paper.
Case itself looks great, all the holes line of perfectly and there is no trouble in pressing the buttons. I love the minimalistic look that it conveys. On the front of the phone, the case lip is angled and feel like part of the phone.
Problem: Why oh why does the finish wear off? After a couple of days of use I could feel the outside edge where my hands came into contact often was worn out. Now patches all around the case have worn off and the resulting bare finish attracts dust.

Yes, please. Anybody feel free to add further reviews and pics. I can even add them to the startpost.
Will gladly add one on my next purchase of another Ultra Slider. If the thing fades,it might be fake? (since tons of SGP fake stuff are going around atm)

I think what you saw was the silicone case. Because the "Barely There" only have holes for the buttons.
I Swyped this on my Galaxy S
If anyone could take pics of the cases I didnt cover ( ), that would be great. I will add them to the starting post. This way the readers won't have to scroll through the whole thread.
Some links would be very nice.

I've had a couple of Kraken cases from Trident before, but honestly I think mid level protection suits 95% of the people in the world. I've done combat equipment jumps with TPU cases. A person's clumsiness might be their worst enemy.
Name an occasion where you might need even more protection. Hmm... If you're going to mount the phone externally on a holster or bicycle handlebars, you might need the added protection. I'll probably be carrying this in my pocket though.
Ask me to name another case that reminds me of the Aegis, and I'd reply Commuter (Otterbox). Basic design and price point are similar.
Let me get to the point. This case is nice. I like it! In my opinion it has more style than the Commuter. The rubber is placed appropriately to provide the best grip and protection.
Something I didn't mention in the video is that the opening for the camera/flash are larger than with most cases. Good point is that it can fit some universal add on lenses like those from PhotoJojo.com. No distortion from the lens not being able to mount flat and centered on the camera. Bad point is that it would make the camera more susceptible to damage.

Screen protector - requirements and thoughts:
- Tempered Glass
- Proximity sensor cut out
- edge to edge
- rounded edges
- oleophobic
- ?? what about front camera cutout - needed or not (only a few have this)
- Brands: Spigen (have always loved Spigen, but they don't have the camera cutout and not great feedback out there, I have the following on my possible list: Yoozon, Nillkin H+ Pro, IntelliGlass, Omoton, Skinomi)
- Price - honestly, not an issue - as prices are all very comparable and I even wonder if other than cutouts and fit - if there is a difference in the glass itself?
Based on this - any specific thoughts?
Case:
- First, thinking NO case as I typically don't like cases at all
- looking for feedback on the thoughts of NO case for this phone - is size an issue (makes a case more or less of a necessity?)
- If I get a case:
- Must be clear (I have a great looking phone, why cover it up?)
- Opening for back lens must be COMPLETELY open (is that a valid concern), most cases have only a small opening there
- Thin, ultra thin, very very thin... did I say it must be VERY THIN
- Top of my list: Spigen Ultra Hybrid Air Cushion - BECAUSE IT IS CLEAR, I'd go with their Ultra-Thin in a heartbeat but it is only in black
- thats about it for cases
- I'm thinking that in lieu of a case - either a SKIN (Dbrand) or a rear glass (intellarmor)?
Cables, chargers
- I think the only way to go is 100% chargers and cables for the USB-C , no converters (thoughts?)
- I may get this: Techmate USB-C to Micro-USB adapter (only because I have SO MANY micro cables and usb chargers)
- If I were to get USB-C cables and chargers - any recommendations of those that WORK and are a good bang for the buck?
- I'm likely to delay this a bit - as I'm hopeful that battery goes the full day...
Software - Customizations:
- TWRP
- CATACLYSM ROM (must have!)
- ElementalX
- Systemless Root (supersu 2.6+)
- VIPER4Android (is this needed on 6P)
- Project_Skynet (will see if it is useful on 6P)
- Theme (will need to see what's around for 6P) - thoughts?
That's it - what am I missing... recommendations and thoughts much appreciated
Just ordered the Nillkin H+ Pro TGSP and the Nillkin Series Natural Transparent TPU Case for Nexus 6P...
These seem to meet the most of my criteria - will update once received.
I was going to suggest the Nillkin set to you but you are already there. You could probably still use a dbrand under or even on the Nillkin case should you wish. I also have the clear Spigen it is nice, not super thin (as the Nillkin) but not bulky either and defintiley fits in some drop protection, also has the complete camera visor cutout which I prefer too.
Screen Protector + Case:
- Currently using the Spigen Ultra Hybrid and Spigen TGSP. They work very well together. Would recommend.
- TGSP Front camera cutout = dirt magnet.
Software:
- TWRP
- Chroma ROM
-fin

Do you find not having the complete camera visor cutout (with the Nillkin) is an issue?
Would definitely recommend an Orzly Tempered Glass Screen Protector (a little extra screen wear protection doesn't hurt, and as far as I've seen it becomes virtually once on your device)
Case wise I'd recommend the Orzly Fusion and also the Spigen Ultra Hybrid. Both a relatively good for protection but also show off the full design of the phone. Good for those who don't like to hide their phones behind a case.
Cable wise would recommend taking a look at Bensons Amazon reviews. A lot of reviews he is doing now show cables that he says are certified and safe to use.

Thanks for pointing that out... - I notice that the speaker cutout is also a dirt magnet - though a necessary one... I also don't use the front camera much - if at all - so turns out a cutout for the front camera - isn't needed and likely, a requirement NOT to have it cut out.
Thanks for the suggestions on the SPigen TGSP and the Hybrid case - they are very high on my list and should the Nillkin not work out - I'll likely go that route.
I asked Spigen if they would come out with a clear thin case - and they replied they were not planning on that.... In general I've found that Spigen tends to cater more to the iPhone market than the Nexus market - probably because iPhone users have already shown that cost is not an issue - and Spigen products do tend to be more pricey.
I have the Supcase with the black back {not the clear back}. Actually I have them both, but the clear back scratches easily and the black back looks much much better. This case also feels great and fully protects the phone. Usually when I get a new phone I buy several cases but this time I don't have to... This case is simply great in every respect. You can find it on ebay for about $20 delivered.
