Is anybody else getting really slow speeds on WiFi with this? The signal is great, but where on other WiFi and wired devices I get up to 35/6 (I have the Blast! Tier with Comcast, 20/4) I am struggling to get 2500 down and 2500 up on the A700. I noticed the downloads on the market taking way too long, so I download Ookla Speedtest and lo and behold, it wasn't my imagination. I may talk to Acer about this, hopefully an update will fix it.
I have an ASUS RT-N66U Router, and the Asus TF300 I just returned was easily pulling 30/5 on it. If there was a root method I could go in and check some things, make some adjustments, but we're not there yet.
Other than that, this tablet is AWESOME! The screen, WOW, I can't say enough at how beautiful it is, I will never be able to go back to anything less on a tablet screen after this has spoiled me

Hmm... I have the same router and decided to test. I placed both my A700 & Photon next to the router, connected to the same server, and ran Speedtest.

I am getting 35/5 on my Galaxy Note i717, but like I said the Wifi speeds on the A700 are really slow, and it's the only device I have, wired or wireless getting those slow speeds. I may try a reset and see if that fixes it, but I don't think it will, I'm not sure why this is happening.
Okay, that was weird, the speeds are fine now, whatever the issue what it seems to have corrected itself. I just got 35200/6120 on it, I'm a happier camper now.

Could the A700 have been syncing something in the background? Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter, etc. going nuts?
I figured I'd help out on my new a700 using speed test...
So far several test show 37mb/5mb which is my normal speed.
This screen is great and not sure why they say dim but you can crank the brightness way up to the point of blinding, non issue.
My gf inherited my Galaxy Tab 10.1 officially.
Haha, first thing I did was when I got it was test it out, needless to say I squinted.

So I have a Xoom FE, obviously, and when I'm browsing the internet in the stock browser, browsing the market, watching netflix, anything that requires internet in general is incredibly slow. Like almost unusable.
I know my internet is fast enough because both of my computers and other devices (Xbox, Droid, Sony Blu-Ray) fly on my network. We use a good Netgear router that's a full a/b/g/n dual band device running on 2.4 and 5Ghz.
The browser is usually painfully slow no matter what, and any of the apps that have anything to do with video are just pathetic. No videos load quickly, mainly in the YouTube app or when browsing to a video on the web, IGN for an example. Once they load enough they rarely keep playing for very long before stopping to buffer, and that's very noticeable in Netflix especially.
I've done Google searches and tried nearly everything that's been suggested, but most of that stuff is for the original Xoom. Not many seem to have gone for the FE. If anyone has any ideas on what I can try I'm open to ideas, even including the router settings. Like I said my internet speed is fine, I can stream 4k YouTube clips without buffering on my PCs.
Gosh over 100 views and no suggestions! Not even 1? Man...
Does this happen on other wireless networks? Or only on your own?

That's what I was trying to isolate.

I haven't really used it on another router for any significant length of time. Unfortunately that means I can't isolate that as a problem either. In a couple weeks I'll be staying at a house with wifi when I go skiing, I'll definitely be paying attention to the speed there.
Its definitely the worst with video, whether it be flash or the youtube app itself the video just loads incredibly slow. Flash videos are nearly unwatchable if not because of the speed because of the glitching. Something I saw hadn't been fixed in the Xoom 2 when I read Engadget's review.

Run Speedtest. If it's slow compared to your laptop, then try changing the wifi router protocol. If it's using WEP, try changing to WPA. I had this issue with my nook color and changing to WPA fixed internet speed issues.
Well I ran a speed test on all the devices I have. My laptop, Droid Charge and my desktop (which is hardwired) all reached just about 5mbps. That isn't bad, my AT&T DSL is supposed to peak at 6. This stupid thing hit under .5mbps, notice that POINT. That's less than half 1mbps. Thinking it might just be the browser I downloaded the app (which doesn't have a honeycomb version apparently), it fared slightly better with about 1.5mbps. Both tests had a ping of about 400ms, while all other devices were less than 20ms.
The router is already set to WPA, so I'm not sure what else to try. I'm thinking about trying the push button connect on the router to see if it helps.
Got netgear?
Just got fed up with mine after 2 years.
Granted it was draft n, and dropped the ssid broadcast daily, but even wired it slowed to a crawl most likely due to spi (stateful packet inspection). Try without it on if you got it.
Or buy a cisco router (they bought linksys). All my phone, tablet and pc related connection issues stopped when I replaced mine.

Try to find a free WiFi hotspot near you and go there to test it. There has to be some where near you that has free WiFi.
Our local McDonalds in my podunk town of 5000 has free WiFi.
It is worth a try.
did you ever find a solution to your problem? I never did find a solution. The symptoms you listed there are exactly what I'm living with. I haven't the slightest idea what might be causing it. The router appears to make no difference as I use it everywhere I go and the symptoms never go away for me. It's still useable, but slow. The other thing that bugs me is the browser's lovely habit of just force closing whenever it feels like it. Very annoying. I'm holding out hoping the ICS update can bring some fixes for us.
What ROM are you using? (Stock, Rooted? EOS ROM?) What type of router do you have?
Details can help you. 5 Mbps is horrible. If you're sharing that bandwidth with other active nodes, then that's even worse.
I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router. This one here. I'm on the stock rom, un-rooted. There's plenty of devices in my house sharing the network for sure, but only about 3 at a time are actively using the internet. Most of the time less than that. 6Mb DSL is the fastest thing we can get where we live (there's no cable in the middle of nowhere).
As I said before, even with many devices using the internet at the same time, my Android phone and all my other devices EXCEPT my Xoom speed test at near 5Mbps. The tablet is lucky to hit 1.5Mbps. I just don't get it. I haven't noticed the slowdown on any other routers, but honestly I don't use it much for the web outside of the house, just mainly reading and games.
I use a number of testing devices, and the Motorola Xoom Family Edition is by far the quirkiest--there must have been severe quality control issues at Motorola with that tablet.
I ran into the incredibly slow Internet speeds. Oddly enough, restarting the device fixed THAT Family Edition problem... for now.
I really don't know what it is about this tablet, it just seems to run very slow. Even when I tethered it to my 4G LTE phone (I get about 15-20mbps where I am) it was slow to pull up videos and pages (pages loaded quickly once they started). I think it needs some optimization for sure. I have a feeling they swapped in some new hardware and didn't touch the software from the original Xoom and that's where our problems are coming from.
Hopefully they actually try with ICS, though my hopes aren't high that we'll even get it this quarter, or if we do that it will be any better.
Hey guys,
My tf101 has wifi connectivity issues. My router is approx. 15 meters away from my room and it has poor wifi signal most of the time or no signal at all.
When I turn it on, it finds it and connects, I am able to browse. But then, a few seconds after staying connected, it disconnects again, it just disappears, zero signal. I turn off wifi and then back on. It either does the same thing, or, tries to authenticate/connect to the network and disappears again. When I put my tablet right next to the router, it connects perfectly for much longer. But sometimes, it still loses signal completely!
Soon after, I decided to do some research and I found out that changing Channels (I changed it to Channel 6) on the router could help. So I did, and it magically works. It manages to connect and stays on for much longer, but... it sometimes still does the same thing. But when I'm not at home, I can't change the wifi channel settings (I don't think?) so I want to know why this happens...
Even my Sony Android phone, has average wifi signal and is able to browse smoothly from where my room is.
I've been thinking if the root cause of this problem is from the antenna inside the tablet? Maybe not connected properly?
Should I open it up? And if so, is it safe to open it up? And what should I do when I open it up? Does anyone know anything about how the Wi-Fi system works in the tablet?
I am in need of some advice on how to open it and what I should do to fix it.
I'm worried that I might break it somehow...
Cheers,
Hong
What ROM are you running? Some have wifi issues. Even the stock asus ICS rom have so-so wifi imo.
As for opening it up... That would just be stupid if you dont know what youre doing. Some parts are extremely fragile, especially the frame around the display.
Youre better off RMA'ing it.
Had the same issue, solved it by replacing my f*cking Linksys WAG2G with an Buffalo Gigabit router.

Stock rom, stock asus ICS.
I have a bit of experience in opening up laptops, which are quite compact but not as compact as a tablet or a phone I'm guessing.
Is there a good method of opening it up the tablet? Like a video tutorial or something?

I don't think it's my router problem though... All my other devices can connect to the Wi-Fi from the same distance perfectly.
So I'm guessing it's the device itself, either the hardware side or the software side... Still not sure

Trust me when I say this: The difference between the TF and a laptop is like the difference between a PC and a laptop ... ok maybe not quite as extreme, but theres a huge difference.

I do not think this is a Prime-like design issue.
Have you looked under ASUS' customized settings? Somewhere down there (last one, I believe, form the top of my head) is a toggle for WiFi sleeping when the display is off. Is that disabled?
I've not had these issues either. Wifi has been rock solid since I got it. A little bummed it doesn't support 5 GHz, but luckily the 2.4GHz isn't too crowded where I live now.
GPS is pretty good as well, even indoors. I'd say Asus did good fixing these "design flaws" found in the TF201.
wifi has been fine on my Infinity
Nope. I have not had issue with wifi as far as I know. But I have not watched any streaming video or downloaded any large files yet so that may change.
WiFi has been working great on both home and Corporate WiFi networks. GPS also locked and worked fine indoors.
No issues here as well. Everything rock solid with connections. Good transfer speeds too.

I haven't experienced any wifi dropping either.
Great
Good to know that others are not having problems.
Ausmike: this is definately not the issues we saw with the Prime. Signal strength is fantastic...I think it is slighlty (very slightly) less strong than my TF101, but still very very good. My issue was that the connection would drop and then reconnect. My hope is that this was just a fluke or not related to the device itself.
Thanks,
Chris
If you go into your Settings, there should be ASUS Customized Settings a little halfway down. Inside that screen, near the bottom, there is the 'Disconnect network during sleep'. Make sure the box is unchecked.
Give that a try.
Upon restart my router is remembered but not connected. I have to connect manually every time.

This use to happen to my prime. All the time.
i've had the infinity now for over a week and didn't have any wifi drops until today.
no idea if it was because of bad weather or the router or the pad but i was in the basement were it worked properly before and it always dropped wifi connection repeatedly. i was downloading two torrents (one after the other because two torrents don't work at the same time at all due to I/O issues) and when the infinity was responding (I/O issues) i tried to surf the web. i've held it vertically, if that matters. other than that, no weird issues
I'm also not having any issues. My Wi-Fi is set to "Always on" even while it is sleeping as ASUS_USA said. Have you looked into that?

in my case i was actively using the tablet and it dropped connection, but yes i have it set to "always on".
WIFI is good, especially coming from transformer prime, signal strength seems same as prime, but connection does not fluctuate like when when I had Prime. Very happy with this fix.

Off-topic: However glad I may be you found the answer in ASUS_USA's post, it is a little depressing people do not read the thread, for I have said that several posts up (this thread isn't even that long). I do not care about getting credit -- that's not the issue here -- but it is symptomatic of people not reading threads, so we keep giving out answers that were given out ages ago, repeating ourselves to infinity (pun not intended). That is the exact reason why most forum regulars -- the most knowledgeable in here -- quit after some time helping newer members.

Just got the TF700T from Amazon a couple days ago. Noticed something strange with the device. As I posted on another thread the device seems to start to bog down and get laggy. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the wifi.
I have a 30/5 mbps cable connection. My wireless router is a 2GB/5GB dual band router. I did some testing of the TF700T vs my Samsung Galaxy SIII. Below are screen shots. Only one screenshot each as multiple tests on each device produced similar results. I put both devices side by side and ran a Speednet on one device. Waited a few seconds then ran the other device waited a few seconds and started over. Did this a dozen times and Speedtest used the same server. I got VERY DIFFERENT results.
The Galaxy S3 showed low ping and consistant speeds with my cable connection of 30/5
The TF700T test was all over the place with the download and upload needle all over the place. Peaking briefly at 20mbps, down to 3mbps and showing the average in the screenshots below.........

Any ideas? Firmware issue on the Asus? Hardware bad? I love this device but this stinks! Wish I had another TF700T to compare.
Every time i download a very large file, it stops with a message that i lost connection to internet. Same message on any distance from the router.
I have to change the router from wifi-n to wifi-bg to be able to download those big file.
Dont know which one to blame, the router or the piece of crap.
I'm just trying to find a reason and if it's my device or all Infinities? If the hardware is good I'm not worried as there will be updates and ROMs released.

Try iperf instead of relying on remote servers over your internet connection for testing wifi performance properly. I've just ran a couple of iperf tests on my corporate network which is an aging 11g with fairly high traffic, but speeds were pretty consistant. I'll give it a try back home once I get the time and run iperf there.
Also, is the S3 on the 5GHz wifi? The Infinity only supports 2.4GHz. If you're in a crowded area of microwaves, bluetooth devices, other wifi networks, remote controls and what not, chances are it'll affect the results. 2.4GHz is damn crowded these days.
I wouldn't be surprised if it performs poorly or inconsistent though. Asus have a track record with these things. Wifi and BT at the same time is still useless for example.

I ran both tests on the G3 both testing 2.5GHz and 5GHz. The G3 performed extremely well on both consistently. I can surf sites (although not simultaneously ) side by side and the Asus loads and performs much worse. I really like this tablet, especially the screen resolution, but this stinks. I've been all along trying to determine if this was an issue with "my copy" or all the Transformers. Obviously I'm new to this device so just learning the quirks. Damn, now I might just have return it and go to the iPad
NOT!

Tf700 is 5mbit slower than my galaxy nexus. Tf7000 had ~20mbit and the nexus 25. Upload was even.
But hey, the galaxy nexus has already jelly bean.
I found that my TF201 and my brand new TF700t both have the same, unusual problem with wireless. They both get very slow when they are close (< 2 meters) to the router. When in the same room with the router, both devices return < 4Mbps while my iphone consistently gets 12Mbps+ and my laptop gets 19Mbps+ in the same location. [All with speedtest]
When I take the Transformer(s) out of the room or down the hall, the wireless speeds go up to the 12 to 15 Mbps range. I never solved this problem with the TF201, but now that my TF700t is doing the same thing, I am looking for answers.
Thanks.
I've spent days searching the internet, google, xda, several different droid forums, but I can't find a real answer to my issue...
The speed test results on my tablet are absolutely horrible. Is there any way to actually increase the DL speed at all?
I've got a pretty cheap tablet. It's a 7"Craig model CMP741e running ICS 4.0.3 AnTuTu rating 4217 (CVS Cyber Monday special).
Connectivity is a non-issue. I was connecting to my home wifi network at 65Mbps. After fiddling with my router (FiOS supplied ActionTec) and changing my broadcast channel as well as disabling "compatibility mode" to run in n only, I was able to boost that connection to 150Mbps (signal strength dropped slightly from about -45dbi to about -50dbi). Streaming media files via LAN improved, but there was no impact whatsoever on actual internet performance.
On my wireless PC I'm getting about 27M down/ 5M up acc. to Speedtest.net. While sitting right beside that computer I test my tablet and the best I'm getting is an average of about 3-4M down (peak about 12M) and a steady 5M up.
An suggestions for squeezing some more speed out of my tablet? Internet surfing is brutally slow. I get TONS of lag and ANR errors. I've tried a couple different browsers (ICS stock browser, dolphin, and chrome) but the results are always the same. I also get a ton of ANRs in the Play Store and in a lot of games.
The tablet came factory rooted, but I haven't experimented yet with any custom ROMs or MODs. I'm a Droid noob, still getting my feet wet.

Seeing that my home connection is 5Mbs down 1Mbs up and its pretty fast. (e.g. HD netflix, facebook in 2 seconds, and good gaming) I'm going to say that your low-cost tablet simply doesn't have the computing power to run all the javascript, render images, and all that rich web content stuff with any reasonable amount of speed.
I used to own a cheap no-name A13 tablet with very similar specs and it was very slow for browsing even though things like netflix worked reasonably well. But now I have a nexus 7 and everything is great.

For the record, I wasn't lying. My head's spinning from all of the different articles/ threads/ websites I've been reading trying to figure this out. I've found a bunch of different ways to improve wifi range/connection speed, but hadn't found any way to improve internet speed. I'll look up Zeps now.
I completely agree that the vast majority of the time limits are imposed more by inferior software than the hardware itself. This thing has a decent (1.3G) processor and RAM (!G) that's why I figured it should be capable of better performance.
If you decide to use a custom rom like bbrad just suggested look for allwinner a10 roms. Basically your device is a clone of the allwinner a10 base model. If you search around there are tons of these tablets all virtually identical but with different brand names.
@aftermath If I decide to go with a custom ROM I'll keep that advice in mind and look for something A10 specific. For now I'm just trying to figure out how to get the best performance possible out of the stock ROM.
I found the OP for Zep's Supercharger... there sure is a lot of information to digest there, and I'm short on time ATM. I will definitely look into it more tonight after I get my son to bed.
As far as Wifi Fixer, I had run across that in some of my previous searches. It looks like it's more about connectivity than speed. As I stated, connectivity is not an issue. I'm using my tablet at home and have an excellent signal that never drops.

Trust me it sppeds your speeds up it unlocks the N wireless comp ability of your tablet which means better connectivity and your max WiFi speed

I tried WiFi Fixer, it did nothing for me. I was already on a strong wireless N connection. Still have to look into supercharger. As I said above, I just want to tweak the max possible performance out of my stock ROM before I start messing around with flashing customs. Android is new to me, so I'm going in small steps right now. I'm not in a position to replace my tablet if I brick it.

Cool cool and about the bricking thing I have never heard someone bricking there tablet and having to take it back if you follow the instructions you will never get a brick and if you do its usually as simple as pressing a button to get it back on stock Ron

You should try WiFi Fixer, that's exactly what the app is designed for. Whenever your signal gets weak/ dropped it should reconnect quickly (and could possibly cut down or eliminate the drops altogether). Try it out, hope it helps.
There are tons of threads about improving wifi connection... This thread is about improving internet connection speeds once you already have a good wifi connection.
SetDNS
After poking around some more i ran across the Set DNS app. It seems to have helped quite a bit. Over the last couple hours I've been periodically running speed tests through Dolphin and the stock ICS browser in clusters of 3-5 tests at a time. My results have improved to a pretty steady 11-12M down (from 3-4M) with occasional scores as high as 24M, and peaks pushing 30M (my full network speed). Still haven't really played with the tablet to see how it effects overall performance, but it seems like a pretty good start.
