i9003 doesn't boot up (Can access download mode) - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

What's going on guys,I've got a problem here that I need your help with.
After flashing a new 2.3.6 ROM my phone just won't boot up, here's how it went down.
I flashed the new ROM and it worked great for about 1 month and suddenly it stopped booting up, since then I've tried flashing a huge load of ROMs trying to get it to work but so far nothing has worked.
I've tried flashing with the MMC in, without it and I've also tried flashing with and without the latona.pit file, as I said above nothing has worked.
After the flashing here's what I see in the Android System Recovery Menu:
Your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
Meida files copy failed

I can get the phone to download mode, and it shows the Samsung animation but without sound, and it keeps bootlooping.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flashing with latona pit file will solve the problem... do a complete flash from odin... xxkpe first then kpu or xxle4.... it should work for you... were on ics???

Found the PIT file in the rom zip, did what you said and doesn't work. Anybody out there with ideas help me out here.

if you are stuck in a boot loop go to recovery and and clear user data and clear cache...
that worked for me

ok, so you were running a custom rom for a month, and for that month there were no problems. then, all of a sudden, with no further modifications and no alterations of any settings, it quit working? was it having any sort of problems, like difficulty booting or coming out of sleep, etc., or was it really with no warning at all? there was no overheating at all either?
what were your governor settings?
you say that flashing pit, along with the roms listed above, didn't work, but what was the message you got after running it in odin?

It wasn't a custom ROM that I installed, it was an official one that was posted on XDA.
No errors were shown in ODIN, the only errors are the ones on the phone which I posted above.
Yeah, it stopped working without me doing any modifications.
I flashed a one file rom and it worked great for about a month then it stopped working and I downgraded to a 3-file rom, flashing the 3-file rom WITHOUT the External SD gave the same error I've posted above, I flashed it WITH the External SD and it worked great for a few months but when I removed the SD card while the phone was on, it would just hang and I would have to restart the phone again with the SD card in which made me believe the OS was installed on the SD card. But this stopped working after another month and here I'm.
The problem right now is, I get the error despite whether the SD card is in or out.
I've done some research on this and I see that this problem MAYBE caused by partitioning issues that could be fixed with "dbdata.rfs" IN GALAXY S, (the same error has been fixed on the Galaxy S with the "dbdata.rfs" file) but I haven't been able to find the "dbdata.rfs" file in any of the roms for i9003.

did u unmount ur sd card before removing it?anyway,u can continue trying to flash other rom available since u can still enter download mode.do try flashing with rom that got bootloader(4files rom) on odin.
anyway, this thread actually belongs to general section man.do explore xda properly before u start posting a thread..

in addition to what rarap said, switching your sd cards with the swap is one thing that causes problems. I'm sure you know the purpose of the swap, but in most cases (or all, can't say for sure), these swaps don't fix the commands for ejecting sd cards, so even though you do the "eject" command, it will still give you the warning that you removed a card without stopping it, hence the hang when you removed it.
do a full five file flash. backup first, then reset all data, then flash pit, then 4 files of kpe and then whichever GB you were using (PDA ONLY!) and do not make any mods. then see if you have issues.

Can you get into recovery?
Try flashing a different kernel... also while at boot logo, does the phone vibrate at any instance?

same thing happened to me

yr internal sd card is currupted
if it is in warranty hen go to service centre at once
and if not then repairs will be costly
you can try to revive yr phone by going to these threads but i cannot guarantee success
i tried but i was stuck, and i dont have the time ( i have to study)

I've tried installing different kernals, none worked.
It doesn't vibrate on boot but it does when I tab onscreen buttons on the UC kernel.

where are you from ? i can help you in person if ur a local
btw you do not need to go to service center :] ur internal card is not corrupted..
first u need to flash XXKPE phone won't boot..
then flash KPU.. phon will still not boot
then install this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1021032&d=1335208703
and got to recovery and wipe everything and restore factory settings and phone will boot... remember it could take a while to boot because dalvik cache needs time to build on the first startup
btw you must be using a cooked rom this is a known problem i also had this prob in the past..

Thanks for the reply man, so I flash the bootloader, pda, csc, modem AND the pit file all in one go?.

In the android development section of i9003..
Bro first download XXKPE from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004647
Then follow the guide to flash XXKPE here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
Then follow the guide to flash XXKPQ again from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
just enter into download mode.then flash xxkpe (all options wid repartition checked)just allow it to be booted till the homescreen and then again go into diwnload mode and flash xxkpq(repartition unchecked)
I installed utterchaos v9 1009 and it worked. But it started with factory default settings. But the problem is everytime the phone turns on it starts with factory default settings. every time asks me to choose locale, languages and e.t.c.
I will try flashing to xxkpe
Are you sure that the Factory Settings issue wasn't caused by you flashing XXKPE first then XXKPQ?
Try reflashing again.

You will only get the select locale etc just once....
Do not factory reset everytime.
I know the problem here. You flashed from UC kernel , and you must have a partition that was converted to EXT4. you then flashed stock kernel but of course your phone will not boot after that, because stock kernel does not support EXT4 format. after you flashed stock kernel you should go into recovery menu and wipe/factory reset, so the partition will go back to default format, and you can still retain stock kernel.
Delete this message I dont know how I didnt read above that you already got your solution

[Q] Errors-Installing stock ROM

Alrite, my phone is ****ing stuck on bootloop, while installing Stock ROM. I install'd stock rom via Odin, After flashing i completed and it says 'Close the serial port and wait until reboot'. So i waited until reboot and after GT-S5670 it show'd me the clockwork mod screen loading something i only remember the last line "E:/can't mount/system.Reboot" (something like that) and voila it's stuck in bootloop of bloody samsung logo. I tried 2 stock roms, DDKT3 and DXKT7, same result on both the ROMS.
Any idea?
And i've also tried replacing cwm version with diff. one. (Same results)
EDIT: I'm sorry but I DON'T KNOW HOW, it fixed it self. After 10 minutes, i started my phone and thought to install custom ROM. CWM was gone and samsung official recovery was there. So i restarted my phone, and it was fixed. But i'm still wondering that i got that message ("E:/can't mount/system.Reboot") like 3 times after every flash of stock ROM done through ODIN at first 2 flashes done (DDKT3) was useless and showed that error and also after the 3rd flash (DXKT7) but after some time , it fixed it self. Still thinking why and how?
EDIT2: Mods can delete this thread if they feel like it's useless. :/

And this is what t i guess:
-You use a custom rom
-Now you flash an stock rom
I think it because your DATA partition is EXT4, stock rom doesnt support EXT4. And in DDKT3,DXKT7 has no data.rfs so DATA partition doesnt convert to RFS
As you said above, Go to stock Recovery and do a wipe/reset Data format DATA partition to RFS

Actually when ever u try to go to stock flash the full package 1st and after one package.. it will boot with no problems

[Q] Not able to boot:can access recovery, but cannot flash?

Alright, here is a strange strange problem...
earlier I accidentally formatted /system (silly me :l) , and after that the phone could not boot, there was no bootloader, not even the Galaxy i9003 that normally appears before the bootloader.
so, I used odin to flash bagaria-09.GT-I9003_PDA.tar, along with the latona.pit file.
now, I can access recovery, but I cannot flash any zip file. I have tried stock gb rom, and it's the same- giving a message "Installation Aborted"
until now the Galaxy i9003 screen still doesn't appear at all
this is a really strange problem I have never encountered before... I hope that the experienced people here will be able to help me with this. Deepest thanks!

The CWM recovery have a option of reboot download, in advance option.
Once your get download mode than flash pit than flash XXKPQ
Yes. I guess you can use CWR only to flash custom roms but you cannot flash stock firmwares using it.
You need to go to download mode and then flash pit, xxkpe using Odin and then the required firmware base and custom rom.

My infuse 4g cant get a custom recovery

See image attachment first: I beloved the SD card slot on my infuse is corrupted or broken. Would this keep a custom recovery from installing or being usable? Every time I flash back to stock and then flash an insecure kernel with cwm and root and busybox and what not I try to boot back into recovery and the 3e recovery is still on there. I'm almost positive the SD card slot is broken cause it doesn't detect it even when I flash to stock and boot normal. Will this keep me from getting a custom recovery?
Have you tried backing up and reformating your internal USB storage (the one that is approx. 13.3GB in total size)? The one the phone calls SD Card is actually your external SD card. Confusing, because in CWM sdcard is internal storage and and sd-ext refers to an app2sd partition not supported by Infuse kernels.
That's assuming that the SD card is the issue. You may just not have root permissions required to flash the kernel from the phone or CWM.
Best bet is to use Heimdall (recommended) or Odin (also good but a bit more finicky) to flash the kernel you desire. This should get you an unsecure kernel that you can use to flash the rom of your choice. Make sure your internal sdcard is working properly first and copy at least one rom install file to your internal sdcard before starting.
Follow the link in my sig to the super everything thread (ISET) for Heimdall and Odin options (should be in the first group, might be in the 2nd or 3rd post of the thread).
Yeah let me give you a little more background on the device. Ive odin'd and heimdalled it back to stock multiple times at which the device works, but the play store and multiple other apps do not work. The Sd card (external) I am assuming, cannot be recognized either. Ive fixed this phone before for a friend but IDK if I ever got the sd card to work but everything else did. Now I'm trying (and I had problems with this before) to get a custom recovery on here but the SD card error I keep getting (internal or external I dont know) keeps me from doing that. It keeps reverting back to the 3e recovery. I have flashed many different heimdalls icluding Entrophy's kernel that is supposed to give me CWM but it never works. Is there a heimdall one click that also includes kernels, custom recoveries, and so on? Cause I have searched trust me it took like 5 days of searching last time to fix it and now I have to do it again. Thanks! Oh and P.S. Odin keeps failing to flash tar.md5 files as well. Idk if its the version im using (Odin3 v1.7) or what. Oh and the phone is now in the connect phone to PC screen and not download mode. Thats happened before so I know its not bricked but I forget how I got it out of that mode. Thanks again Zen!
Oh and also every time I use Heimdall and install the drivers so it can comunicate with my infuse it causes Odin to not detect the device and vice versa. If I want to use odin I have to install a different driver, and with heimdall I need a different one haha. Its a dumb circle I'm stuck in ;P
Last item first. I've been able to get around the Odin vs Heimdall thing by using different USB ports for each. If you've been trying both on multiple ports you may need to run device mgr on your PC and remove some hidden devices. See here for instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33980291&postcount=11
As for the sdcard, I'm still recommending that you backup both sd cards and try a reformat. You can do this via the phone, or while connected via USB. You may also want to flash a stock package (with pit) after backups and before the formats.
The recovery is part of the kernel, so something else may be at work here.. if you get a good kernel flash you should get the recovery that comes with it. Try running CPU Spy and look at the bottom of the page to see the details. Post a screenie if you can.
The problem you described could be due to where installed apps are stored on the phone. Android creates a hidden area on one of your two SD cards (somewhat annoying if it ends up being the removable one..)
If the sd card is a problem this would explain why some things don't work correctly. You can try via the Settings-->Manage Applications interface to move apps to the phone. This relocates them to the /data partition and off either SD Card. If you get errors attempting this that further confirms sd card problems.
Not sure why a blown SD card would block a kernel flash though... have you confirmed that you have root? Have you tried flashing a zImage file directly using SGS Kernel flasher? Try to extract a zImage from a CWM zip file and copy to your phone then run the app to flash. Make sure the kernel matches the firmware (i.e. Froyo, GB, etc..)
Wow that was a lot of information haha. Alright I got my phone out of the connect to pc screen and i used odin to fully reformat including PIT, PDA, and Phone files. After that completed flashing it rebooted into 3e recovery on its own for some reason and it comes up with some errors saying it cant mount /data. This i believe is on the internal SD card and has to do with the system apps. The phone bootlooped at the att splash screen. After that I used another Heimdall reformat "Stock_SGH_I997_UCLB3_Repartition-One-Click" which successfully flashed but still bootloops at the att screen. I got it fixed before but I have do idea how haha. If I can get it to boot back up I'm just gonna tell my friend I cant fix it because I believe there are deeper problems at hand here. Any tips on how to fix the boot looping? Cause two successful flashes via heimdall and odin didn't do it :/
Here's a screen shot of what I have now. I went back to odin and did a full reformat and repartition witht the pit pda and phone this time without the sd card in it and I'm still getting the /data doesn't exist. Quick question: I work at a cell phone repair shop and I know some devices internal memory is actually just an sdcard covered by a shield that can be replaced. If that were the case with the Infuse could I possibly put another sd card in that slot and fully reformat it on the new card? Seeing as this could be a corrupt internal sd card just currious.

you're still on secure stock kernel..that is what you're seeing.
in the heimdall uclb3 thread, after you flash the uclb3 stock, put phone back in download mode.
flash the kernel in the second or the third post to get your cwm recovery

Even if I were to flash the stock uclb3 it will just bootloop. The phone isn't cooperating with either heimdall or odin. Well I guess I shouldn't say that b/c they both flash fine but the phone doesn't boot straight to the system, as soon as a flash is finished it reboots into recovery (3e) and installs some update package. I'm not sure what it is but it never boots straight to the system. Then after the update finishes it just bootloops :crying:
I'm losing hope. But I'll give your advice a try. Heimdall or Odin?
is there a way to format /data on the internal memory? I read your post and it says it does not wipe the data partition. I think that may solve my problem, but probably not lol
Flashing Odin or Heimdall stock with a pit file should take care of that... You could try qkster's cwm wipe or the infuse toolkit complete wipe.. That will clear /data.
The bootloops sound like non-stock file systems with a stock kernel/recovery.... Likely, since you are still seeing stock recovery.... The real mystery is why this is so after apparently successful flashes of a new kernel and rom..
What was running on the phone before all this? What exactly are you flashing now?

Okay I fianally got it to boot up and I am putting this thing away FOR GOOD! No root, no custom recovery just stock JB haha. Let me see if I can describe this to you guys and get your opinion it is literally the weirdest thing. I remember the Sd card messing it up the last time and i remember what I had to do to fix it and tell me if this makes sense. If I had the sd card in the phone and tried to boot up it would boot loop or if I tried to boot into recovery I would get all those red errors. So what I did to remedy this was to somehow put the sd card in AFTER I had applied power to it with the 3 finger technique. This was done by putting the sd card in its slot but not clicking it, taking a small flat blade and putting it against it, putting the battery in the device with the blade in between the battery and the unlicked sd card, used the 3 finger method to get into recovery and just before it starts up i clicked the sd card in place with the blade..... No clue why this worked but when recovery started up I had absolutely no errors, it finally was able to find AND format /data and I did a factory data reset and wiped cache and rebooted to stock JB. Dont ask why it worked but it did? haha I remember having to do this last time I just couldn't remember the sequence. Does that make any sense to you guys? why would this happen, if you know?
so now that I finally got it booted and the market and all is working would it be possible to flash a kernel with the SGS kernel flasher that has cwm in it cause I dont wanna deal with either odin or heimdall again. would this bypass those or do I need root first?
That's a wacky fix for a wacky problem. Glad to hear you got it working.
I'll bet that you'd be OK just leaving that external card out. Reformat still recommended...
You will need root to use sgs kernel flasher. If you are running uclb3 (gb) stock you will need to flash a custom kernel via the dreaded Odin or Heimdall method. Try with the sdcard removed... Maybe you will have better luck....

what do you mean by reformat still recommended? I wouldn't wanna have to go through all that again by flashing someother insecure kernel or another version of android or something. Its weird though why do you think when I flash a kernel that has a different recovery on it it doesnt stick?
Backup and reformat the external sdcard since that seems to be an issue...
The rest is if you want the ability to flash custom kernels and roms. If you are good as is... Well, there you go...

[Q][SOLVED] Stuck at boot screen after flashing

First let me say that I'm kinda new to android flashing and I'm learning, so please be understanding.
A few days ago I got in my hands an i9003 and decided to root and unlock it, I thought I had made an /efs backup, but, as a matter of fact this backup turned out to be empty, as apparently I didn't backup with root permision. A day later decided to install CM11 and I followed this tutorial: bit.ly/J5d5UL When I tried to install the ROM it rebooted and it got stuck in recovery mode. I read extensively over what to do, so I decided to flash back to stock (UBKB1, as I'm from Argentina and this is the Latin american Froyo stock). I've had no luck with this: it is now stuck with the glowing Samsung logo right after the boot animation. I've read that the CF-Root used in the tutorial, amit.bagaria one, it's intended to work with Gingerbread, and I had Froyo installed when I started the tutorial, ¿can this be the cause of everything? ¿Is there something I can do? I've also read to flash to KPE first and then on to others, but I'm worried that, as I don't have my /efs backup, I could lose my 3g and/or IMEI.
Thanks in advance, and also I apologize any grammar errors I could have as English isn't my native language.

sometimes while installing rom the phone automatically reboots into recovery.. but tht is normal.. then u have to again flash the rom ... but for now .. try clearing dalvik cache in recovery mode... and reboot .. if tht doesnt work then using odin flash back to kpe .. here is a video link http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2crS2rZgUQc&desktop_uri=/watch?v=2crS2rZgUQc and u can loose ur internal data so backup...
hit thanks if i helped
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry I didn't specify further, when it was booting continuously into recovery I tried to install the ROM, but it threw an error (#7 if I recall correctly) and then it kept looping into recovery.
I'll try to flash CWM now (as I don't have it flashed after flashing stock) and do the wipes.
EDIT: I've flashed CWM for the firm I had installed, wiped everything, reflashed and it still doesn't work, I'd like to avoid KPE until I'm sure I can recover the /efs folder as I don't want lo lose connectivity of any sort. Update: during wiping CWM said it can't mount /datadata
Thanks anyway
Last Update:I've got a KPE for my region so I've flashed it, I've also flashed amit.bagaria's universal CWM, it kept looping, so I tried to install the rom, unsuccessfully, it reboots on a different version of CWM, and if I try to install it again it says:
Installing update...
"assert failed: run_program("/tmp/updater.sh")==0
E:Error in /storage/sdcard1/cm-11-20131209-UNOFFICIAL-galaxysl.zip

leave amit bagaria zip aside... flash this on kpe using odin link:- http://www.mediafire.com/download/vh701fh312la2v9/ZHKPE-CFROOT-25-05-2012.tar . after odin detects your device. go to PDA option and select this zip file from your computer and flash.. this will root your device and add a cwm recovery. and let me know what happened.. and even iam not a professional. but i were u i would have tried all possible ways.. have fun.. we ill get a way out of it..
hit thanx if i helped
Excuse me but, ¿PIT? ¿isn't it PDA? Also, that CWM isn't for the firm of the region I have, ¿wouldn't I have problems flashing that one?
I've been reading that it could be that the internal memory is corrupted, ¿is there a way to check this?

sorry bro ! its pda .. i havent used odin for months so.... and iam not sure region would cause any problem ! it will be better to consult a professional.... and even ill read about it and post if i get something..
Ok, so I kept reading about it and it doesn't seem to be a corrupted memory, there are some errors that should appear and they don't.
I've been recomended to flash to XXKB3 as it doesn't modify the IMEI file, and then if that doesn't work flash XXKPE; I'm having a hard time finding it though, as all hotfile links are dead.
Ok! I've flashed XXKP3 and finally it booted. I'll see to take other problems I might have somewhere else.
