[Q] Soft bricked :) - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I flashed the UNIVERSAL CF-ROOT KERNEL by amit.bagaria.
Developer also gave an apk utility to convert rfs partitions to ext4. This boots up the CWM recovery and changes the partition to ext4.
I tried that out, but \system was failing everytime. \data, \dbdata and \cache were converted to ext4.
Someone recommended another script by the name of skin. In this script update.zip changes every partition to ext4.
The procedure mentioned was just
1. make a nandroid backup
2. flash the script without rebooting (converts to ext4)
3. and still without rebooting, restore the nandroid backup you just made.
I did exactly as mentioned, till 2nd step it went good. Successfully converted. But it could not restore the nandroid backup to the converted partitions. I even tried an older nandroid backup but \system cannot be restored anyhow.
And the phone is stuck on a bootloop. Recovery and download mode are still preserved, so it means its just a soft brick...
I'm planning to download an ICS rom (RemICS rom).
1. It gives a zip file. Will flashing it just through a CWM recovery finally install the new firmware or will I have to use ODIN for it ??
2. And what about the partitions, do they have to converted back to rfs before flashing?
3. Or suggest how to get the nandroid backup working again ?
P.S. I presently don't have a wi-fi, just a low bandwidth limited edge connection. So, please suggest ROM which is stable for everyday usage and has good battery life.

Lol first time I heard someone fail the procedure. Has been working for me all the time. Anyway try wiping data and se if it boots. Then if it does try restoring the backup. To install remics, just have cwm and any ics/gb rom on your phone. Then wipe data, flash, wipe caches, reboot
Cheers

Wiping data didn't help. It gets stuck on the boot animation and stays there, then goes on bootloop.
Did you too had cf-root by amit.bagaria, before using this script ?
Suggest the GB Rom I should flash ?

Hmmm... just give it a shot for RemICS ROM its pretty darn good
Follow these steps
1. Flash XXKPQ via ODIN using guide Here Please follow exactly.
2. Flash Universal CF-Root by amit Here
3. Boot into recovery by powering off your phone then holding volume up+ home key then power button after 0.5s
4. Install zip from sd card-> choose zip from sd card->RemICS
5. After ROM is finished flashing dont reboot. Wipe cache partition and dalvik cache. DO NOT wipe data/factory reset.
6. Reboot system now.
7. Wait for about five minutes or longer for boot. may take a bit longer.
8. Once reboot, enjoy!
Anyway softbrick is never a huge issue

Thanks for the solution. I am gonna try it out soon.
And btw, why have you recommended XXKPQ, won't flashing a single GB rom be sufficient ?
XXKPQ would need flashing firstly with XXKPE, and as I told I have a slow and limited internet presently. So was wondering if only XXKPE-->Root--> RemICS via CWM would work fine ?

XXKPE is unstable so it would be very unwise to flash that as a base. I highly recommend u follow my guide... XXKPE first because it has all files including Bootloader for gb for a clean install so as to avoid any problems down the road.

Finally i got a post on how to restore! Thanks

@crazbanditz
finally successfully flashed.
Xxkpe-xxkpq-rooted-remics.
Finally successful, thanks.
Few things I noticed with just an hour of flashing.
1. Bluetooth not working.
2. Just a bit laggy(sometimes)
3. Better battery
4. keyboard was better in stock (drops the tracking of path sometimes if less pressure is applied)
5. ICS is much better than GB, and surely has a lot of options in terms of functionality, makes life simpler.
Thanks & cheers.
Kudos to the developers again.

Another issues:
- no Facebook sync option still
- FC with temple run. (does this thing has anything to do with developer section in setting, doesn't this click the processor automatically?)

And I just installed the temple run and restored it's data from the older backup. Though I'll try to reinstall again.

[Q] I did something bad in ICS

I thought I could flash a theme to the stock ICS leak. But apparently that doesn't work because it's not de-odexed. Is there a way to de-odex the stock ROM on my phone? If not, is there a way to undo my theme flash (I forgot to make a backup ). Or, can I go back to stock ICS by just flashing the Odin one click ICS leak?
If you're not worried about losing anything try factory reset. Sometimes themes will stick, if it does just flash through Odin and your good to go.

Yeah, I tried the factory reset. It didn't do anything. I'm not worried about losing data though. I have everything backed up with Titanium. So, I can flash directly from Odin without clearing cache, etc through CWM?
Themes do not work on odexed . Period. Flash one of the custom . Deodexed ics roms if u wsnt a theme
If u flash the collective ics rom . You will not loose data or anything. Just download and flash. It will sort out your issue. And give u a good rom check it out here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1548469

I'm a little confused. Do I just flash it in CWM without wiping anything, or do I follow these instructions?
1. Make a nandroid backup, it is always a good idea
2. Have your apps backed-up with titanium
3. Downloadrom, and place onsd card
4. Shutdown, and boot to cwm recovery
5. Wipe data, wipe cache
6. Select mounts/storage, and choose format system
7. Flash rom
8. Fix permissions
9. Reboot.
10. Enjoy

(Q) jellybam 1.3 won't flash

Hi guys. Al thou this is my first post I've been flashing my i9003 for a year or so and i've never had any problems until now.
I have an stock gingerbread installed (XXKPQ) that I flashed using odin, kernel version (2.6.35.7-CL709629 [email protected] #1)
Just so you know, I'm from Argentina, and in order to be able to use 3g, had to keep the modem in I9003LUBKB1 version.
I also flashed cf root (by Skin1980) and I'm using CWM v1.80
I get the latest jellybam (1.3) from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972087
And followed the instructions in the official website : http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
Just in case you're too lazy to follow the link here are the instructions:
What to do if you are coming from a Stock, CyanogenMod, MIUI, AOKP and any other custom ROM different from JellyBam
-Download the latest revision of JellyBam ROM for your device
-Place the zip into your internal SDCard
-Boot into CWM recovery (Home+Power+Volume up until samsung logo appear)
-Wipe data/factory reset
-Wipe dalvik cache (Inside advanced tab)
-Install zip from internal SDCard
-Welcome to JellyBam!
(I had to wipe the data first and then put the zip in the sd card because wiping the data was erasing the jellybam zip)
The first time I run the installer it got stuck at 50% while installing sony's media player. So i just started the process again and uncheked sony walkman player, it installed "successfully".
When the phone restarted, it was just the old gingerbread, in the about phone panel, it was all the same that before installing jellybam.
So it obviously didn't installed. I can make calls, send and receive messages, wifi is working fine.
So can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? Do i have to flash a jellybean kernel?, I dont really know hoe to do that but I'm sure there's more than one post around here that explains that process.
If this question has already been posted I'm really sorry, I did search for any post that could help me with this problem but I didn't find any real answer.
I really hope somebody can help me, and sorry for the bad english, I did study the language but it was a long time ago.
Thanks everybody, specially to developers, you're awesome.:good:
I think you should fist flash theJellyBam v1.1.0 alpha4 in order to repartition before flash the v1.3. hope it can help u.

I have cwm version 5 and I have been having the same problem than the OP. I'd like to flash a CM rom before going on to JB 1.3 so my question is, knowing that I currently have an I9003XXKPR 2.3.6 rom, can I flash CM 10 or should I start by a previous version? And, if so, which one?

i think you should start from zero. take a backup of your files, flash a stock rom and then use universal cf root to root your phone. then flash cm 10 alpha 4 and then the jellybam 1.3. that's the way i have flashed mine. i hope it helps.

Good luck! i hope you flash it correctly! just read and follow the instructions in the cm10 thread thoroughly so you can avoid any problems.
All custom rom unofficial, not compile, but directly modify our base cyanogen
It is recommended to start on a CM10 origin
Example A3 to A4
KPE> LF2> CF-LF2
Wipe Data / Factory Reset. (MUST DO THIS STEP)
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash.
Auto rebooted into recovery (if it show error mounting / cache, and cant mount in manually mount and storage, do wipe / cache)
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash again
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery.
Mounts and Storage -> Format dbdata (you would not find this in CWM so just ignor 6)
8. reboot
You can then flash all based on Unofficial Alpha 4
Just do the basic procedure wipe

Totally wipe and restore Tab?

I am fairy new in this and would like to know if anyone can tell me how to do a full wipe and reset of this tab? I picked up a used one yesterday to experiment with. I already have 1 since long but never got to flashing it because of the brickbug thing. So it came with some custom 4.0.4 rom and I flashed JB stock onto immediately with odin but for some reason it seems sluggish and also rebooted itself once where all apps got deleted?!
I read that on stock ics doing any kind of wipe can brick the tab? Is still the same on jb? If not can anything please be kind enough to tell me how to go about completely cleaning everything out? It is to my limited understanding that just flashing a stock rom leaves all kinds of things lurking around underneath? Especially since considering it came with a custom rom on the previous owner my have flashed lots of things without properly cleaning up?
oh and I just got it rooted with cwm so that's done at least.
JB has been reported to be brick-bug safe.
Boot into recovery and factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache (in advanced) and reboot. First reboot may take a while, so be patient.
Setup and let the ROM "bed in" and build its caches.
Edit: if you still have troubles, do the above and also format system partition, reboot into download mode, flash firmware with Odin, and 're-flash the cwm recovery.

Of course, there's lots to gain or lots to miss out
There are many many features that improve it over stock kernel.
There are a couple small random bugs, but they are also reported to be present on stock kernel.
Please have a full read of my kernel Post #1 to #3 and decide for yourself if it's for you. I've also provided the stock kernel for flashing which I recommend to always keep on your device.
You can flash the kernels via custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) or ODIN.
As always, please read the disclaimer too.
Take your time, and make an informed decision on what best suits you
Edit: if you do decide to flash it, make sure it's the P6800 JB 4.1.2 kernel (NOT P6810 ICS 4.0.4). The are two different threads......

The first boot always takes longer as it is setting up, but no longer than ~5 minutes.
Anyway... If you've waited and it is boot looping, try these steps:
Make sure your recovery is up to date.
Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache.
Flash ROM, gapps, and any addons
Wipe cache and dalvik
Reboot. After first reboot is complete and on setup screen, wait 5 minutes and reboot into recovery.
Wipe cache and dalvik again. Reboot
This reboot could also take ~5 minutes, but the others shouldn't as long as you don't wipe cache and dalvik.
You should see an "Android is Upgrading" screen. After this is done, complete setup and you should be good to go.

Back to stock rom for now, prepare (charge until full).
Re-root, then reboot to recovery to try again flashing the rom.
Always format /system, /cache, /data/media first when installing different roms. Good luck

Stock rom is working fine? Is root working on stock?
Did you get any errors while flashing costom roms?
I remember a folk here got a same problem as you, and i think it's not resolved yet..
Maybe you and him have a "special" devices.
Don't worry, it's not a problem with your ext-sd because i use it all the time. and if it was ext-sd problem, you'll get an error while flashing.
I suggest messages devs in developement section, maybe they can figure out what is wrong.
And of course i think it's not safe to restore others nandroid backup, so don't mind find it.
God speed, wish I can help you more

Sadly my stock rom is gone.
So yesterday when I've rerooted whit your link I've received two errors :
- SOKP and when I've flash it something like poped up : E:Cannot write to sd card clockworkmod recovery etc.
- CM 11 :
Root Access Possibly Lost Fix?
THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE
1. YES fix root (/system/xbin/su)
2. NO do not fix

Like I said earlier, you should have flashing stock rom first to remove root via odin/hemidall.. you can find it at sammobile, com
then re-root with link i gave earlier again via odin/hemidall, and format in recovery like i said earlier. no wonder you still fail..
you should have philz touch recovery instead cwm if you succeed.

[Q] Unfortunately "<system app>" has stopped

Hi there, i am newbie here and this is my first post. So i'm not quite sure if im following all the forum rules properly or if im using the right terms to explain my issue. Please overlook the same and help me asap.
Im using a Canvas 2 a110, rooted,
I had installed some custom rom,
the name is like MMX_JB Stock rom or something,
i am not able to access my phone so i cant check either.
In the process of troubleshooting, i have now installed the Thunderzapv2 kernel
Please let me know if any more details are required.
The issue
Out of nowhere, my phone just popped up a message saying "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped".
I did a reboot and it was still the same.
Now since the launcher isnt working, i cant get around the apps or do anything.
I try to open the Settings app from the notification panel, but then a msg saying "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" pops up.
If there are new messages, i can open the Hideitpro app, but i cant click a single thing coz the Launcher error notification
keeps popping up. And i ve to press Ok and any app that is open closes.
So basically i cannot do anything but press the power button and switch off. And i have no idea how i messed up my system files.
I created a backup in CWM. Deleted all system and user data and flashed the same ROM again.
Then i could use the phone like new. But the issue is that i really need to get some of my messages and contacts back.
So i entered CWM again and chose Advanced Restore. Then selected Data from the options.
I only needed the data so thats all i restored. Did not restore system/cache/boot or any of that.
I reboot thinking all my data will be back with my system files back in place.
However, i get the same errors and issues again like before. So now i only have the option to either forget all data
and use the phone as new. Or keep the data when the system files are corrupted somehow.
Please let me know how i can restore my data and make my mob work properly again.
Thanks and Regards.

Hi there,
Don't worry about it, it can be cured as before. Just answer my questions as accurately as you can:
1) How did you take the backup and how much was the backup file size?(complete step by step process that you followes and which ROM was installed in your phone when you were taking the backup? If possible, which kernel was installed at the time of taking backup?)
2) Which ROM you flashed again?
And how?
3) how you tried to restore the data back?
If you can give some more information which can help, please provide.
And, don't worry about it. Your phone will work as before
Hit thanks button only if this was helpfull in any way:thumbup:

Hi there,
Currently i have installed the same old custom rom i used before and the phone is working.
But as mentioned before there seems to be no way to restore my data.
1. I created a backup after the phone system files got corrupted. Using CWM.
The backup i scurrently in my external storage card. Ext/clockworkmod- two folders (backup & blobs)
The total backup size is 1.09 gb.
The custom ROM (rooted) that i was using and have currently installed is Micromax_a110_jellybean_stock_cwm_paplu3
I have been using this rom for more than a year now.
Backed up data using the backup option in CWM recovery.
The kernel that i had at that time, i dont remember at all. It may have been something like 1.xxx. But im not sure.
The kernel i currently have is Thunderzap 2
2. The current ROM is the same. I just deleted all system and user data after taking backup and installed
the zip file using the "Install zip from sd card" option in CWM.
3. Tried to restore after flashing by going to CWM, selecting "Advanced Restore", and then "Data"

Hey. NO! NO!
I have not found a fix. I could make my mob work by flashing even before. Thats not the problem.
Let me try to explain in brief.
My mob suddenly crashed all of a sudden. And i could not take a backup.
The only option i had was to flash. So i did that by taking a backup from CWM.
I flashed the mob and now its working. But i am not able to restore data that i backed up using CWM.

Hi nyazmohsin,
You said your phone is working now so, i got confused.
If you still have the backup file in your phone, try doing this:
1) goto CWM --> backup and restore --> restore --> chose the backup file
--> restoration process will begin --> let it complete.
Note: Donot go for advanced restore
2) Now after the restore is complete --> wipe data/factory reset --> wipe cache partition --> advanced --> wipe dalvik cache --> reboot system
Try this and let me know if this worked.

Did not work
Even if i restore data as said above, and then if i do a wipe data/factory rest, wont that remove the data i restored in step 1?
Just an amateur doubt.

Hi,
Try these steps and check if the phone is working fine after the reboot.
If it's working fine : goto CWM again and restore the backed up file again > then this time don't wipe data/factory reset > just wipe dalvik cache from advanced.
Check this and let me know.

Out of despair, after trying out the previous procedure I flashed the SUVI rom.
So should i do the above mentioned steps now?
Would it cause any issues since the backed up data is of the custom Jelly bean 4.2.1 rom and the current rom is SUVI?
I can flash the previous rom again and try this procedure if required.

Hi,
Dude you said u had mmx stock jellybean ROM which is supposed to be 4.1.1 and now you are saying it was 4.2.1. You are creating a huge confusion
However, if you want your data back, flash the stock jellybean 4.1.1 by paplu3. And, then follow all steps carefully as i mentioned.
It' all your wish, and if you don't want the data back you can continue using the SUVI ROM.
Note: Everytime if you'll keep on changing the ROM and kernel, none of my solutions will workout for you:thumbdown:

Tried doing the same from 4.1.1 rom but it did not work.
Switching back to SUVI. There seems to be no workaround
@B#!- Thanks a ton for your time and patience.
People like you hold the reputation of Android and open source operating systems.
Have a great day!
