[Q] Unfortunately "<system app>" has stopped - Micromax A110

Hi there, i am newbie here and this is my first post. So i'm not quite sure if im following all the forum rules properly or if im using the right terms to explain my issue. Please overlook the same and help me asap.
Im using a Canvas 2 a110, rooted,
I had installed some custom rom,
the name is like MMX_JB Stock rom or something,
i am not able to access my phone so i cant check either.
In the process of troubleshooting, i have now installed the Thunderzapv2 kernel
Please let me know if any more details are required.
The issue
Out of nowhere, my phone just popped up a message saying "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped".
I did a reboot and it was still the same.
Now since the launcher isnt working, i cant get around the apps or do anything.
I try to open the Settings app from the notification panel, but then a msg saying "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" pops up.
If there are new messages, i can open the Hideitpro app, but i cant click a single thing coz the Launcher error notification
keeps popping up. And i ve to press Ok and any app that is open closes.
So basically i cannot do anything but press the power button and switch off. And i have no idea how i messed up my system files.
I created a backup in CWM. Deleted all system and user data and flashed the same ROM again.
Then i could use the phone like new. But the issue is that i really need to get some of my messages and contacts back.
So i entered CWM again and chose Advanced Restore. Then selected Data from the options.
I only needed the data so thats all i restored. Did not restore system/cache/boot or any of that.
I reboot thinking all my data will be back with my system files back in place.
However, i get the same errors and issues again like before. So now i only have the option to either forget all data
and use the phone as new. Or keep the data when the system files are corrupted somehow.
Please let me know how i can restore my data and make my mob work properly again.
Thanks and Regards.

Hi there,
Don't worry about it, it can be cured as before. Just answer my questions as accurately as you can:
1) How did you take the backup and how much was the backup file size?(complete step by step process that you followes and which ROM was installed in your phone when you were taking the backup? If possible, which kernel was installed at the time of taking backup?)
2) Which ROM you flashed again?
And how?
3) how you tried to restore the data back?
If you can give some more information which can help, please provide.
And, don't worry about it. Your phone will work as before
Hit thanks button only if this was helpfull in any way:thumbup:

Hi there,
Currently i have installed the same old custom rom i used before and the phone is working.
But as mentioned before there seems to be no way to restore my data.
1. I created a backup after the phone system files got corrupted. Using CWM.
The backup i scurrently in my external storage card. Ext/clockworkmod- two folders (backup & blobs)
The total backup size is 1.09 gb.
The custom ROM (rooted) that i was using and have currently installed is Micromax_a110_jellybean_stock_cwm_paplu3
I have been using this rom for more than a year now.
Backed up data using the backup option in CWM recovery.
The kernel that i had at that time, i dont remember at all. It may have been something like 1.xxx. But im not sure.
The kernel i currently have is Thunderzap 2
2. The current ROM is the same. I just deleted all system and user data after taking backup and installed
the zip file using the "Install zip from sd card" option in CWM.
3. Tried to restore after flashing by going to CWM, selecting "Advanced Restore", and then "Data"

Hey. NO! NO!
I have not found a fix. I could make my mob work by flashing even before. Thats not the problem.
Let me try to explain in brief.
My mob suddenly crashed all of a sudden. And i could not take a backup.
The only option i had was to flash. So i did that by taking a backup from CWM.
I flashed the mob and now its working. But i am not able to restore data that i backed up using CWM.

Hi nyazmohsin,
You said your phone is working now so, i got confused.
If you still have the backup file in your phone, try doing this:
1) goto CWM --> backup and restore --> restore --> chose the backup file
--> restoration process will begin --> let it complete.
Note: Donot go for advanced restore
2) Now after the restore is complete --> wipe data/factory reset --> wipe cache partition --> advanced --> wipe dalvik cache --> reboot system
Try this and let me know if this worked.

Did not work
Even if i restore data as said above, and then if i do a wipe data/factory rest, wont that remove the data i restored in step 1?
Just an amateur doubt.

Hi,
Try these steps and check if the phone is working fine after the reboot.
If it's working fine : goto CWM again and restore the backed up file again > then this time don't wipe data/factory reset > just wipe dalvik cache from advanced.
Check this and let me know.

Out of despair, after trying out the previous procedure I flashed the SUVI rom.
So should i do the above mentioned steps now?
Would it cause any issues since the backed up data is of the custom Jelly bean 4.2.1 rom and the current rom is SUVI?
I can flash the previous rom again and try this procedure if required.

Hi,
Dude you said u had mmx stock jellybean ROM which is supposed to be 4.1.1 and now you are saying it was 4.2.1. You are creating a huge confusion
However, if you want your data back, flash the stock jellybean 4.1.1 by paplu3. And, then follow all steps carefully as i mentioned.
It' all your wish, and if you don't want the data back you can continue using the SUVI ROM.
Note: Everytime if you'll keep on changing the ROM and kernel, none of my solutions will workout for you:thumbdown:

Tried doing the same from 4.1.1 rom but it did not work.
Switching back to SUVI. There seems to be no workaround

Restore TWRP Backup?

Hi, just have a quick question that's been bugging me for a while now. If I have made a full backup using TWRP and I want to restore it, should I:
Fully wipe system and caches and then restore; or just restore right over my current ROM?
****, good question
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Restore takes care of wiping for you.
Piggybacking off the OP, sometimes when I try to restore my TWRP backup it fails, and then the only way I've found to get it working again is to do a boot loader factory reset, and then essentially start from scratch or load an older working backup. No problem, just a minor annoyance. Is there something I'm doing wrong or any advice someone can give me?

I always wipe everything before a restore, just in case
Better safe than sorry
Restoring a back up !
When restoring a back up from any recovery wipe everything just as if you were installing a new rom. Factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, system just to be safe. Factory reset wipes data and all cache but not system and if you do a factory reset and then try to wipe I think dalvik again you get an error but no harm done it just will not do it again. I usually do them all and then do the superwipe zip and that willl give you a good piece of mind that it is properly wiped. Also, I have noticed that using the external sd card seems to work best for installing roms or backing up and restoring back ups or anything else like mods or themes. Here is the superwipe zip in case anyone needs it.

I've done both, but I like not having reinstall all my apps, and reset all my ringtone, and that goes with a full wipe. so when ever i can i flash over. Just make sure your slashing the same rom over the old one.
You shouldn't worry about losing ANYTHING on a backup when you do a factory reset, because the backup houses all of the data and settings anyway.
All you do is Factory Reset, Nandroid>Restore, and your old backup will flash everything the way it was when you did a backup in the first place. Factory Reset is always wise, especially when you're fiddling with different ROM's based on different kernels or systems (AOSP/Sense).

Ahh, this is true I recant my statement. I was mistakenly thinking about flashing a new ROM over an older version, not a buck-up. I feel stupid.
when restoring a nandroid if you've got the new HBoot I think you have to restore boot.img separately via fastboot. Is that right?

Nope. I just flashed a bunch of roms yesterday and did restores with no issue. I think if your using the stock rooted 2.2 you are correct, but any other rom a restore works fine.
Not Restoring = Bad Idea

I have made the mistake of not wiping everything (excluding sd card) when changing ROMs or when restoring from a backup. This may be a little different because it was when I was switching to a new ROM on my brother's phone, but I tried to take the lazy way out and not restore everything. I really didn't feel like redownloading everything. I soon learned that this was a mistake, and his "phone" app suddenly disappeared. He was also unable to send or receive texts. This soon made the process even longer than I wished it to be because I needed to go back and restore everything again and get it back to normal.

WOW! After a good 3/4 days of frustration, thinking I had ruined my device, I finally got my TWRP backup to restore.
It's my first time using this software and the restoration process is truly amazing. I mean, my test messages were still there, even my browser history and last page loaded up in chrome were still there. I'm blown away.
The strange thing is that It didn't work when all 3 partitions were selected. When I tried it this way (as per the many step by step instructions that I read) my phone would load up a black screen with just the notification bar visible. I'd see my voicemail, sms, wifi and battery icons at the top, but absolutely nothing else except for a myriad of pop ups that read 'Unfortunately [app name] has stopped working'.
So I bit the bullet and did some trial and error with the partitions.
Turns out that when I only selected 2 of the 3 (I believe they were 'Boot', 'Data' and deselected 'System') everything loaded up just as it was before the backup, except there were only the stock apps available and no google services at all. .....Very odd.
So I did the boot to recovery method before turning the phone off (vol. up - Home - Power) which restarted the phone and strangely brought back EVERYTHING as mentioned at the start of this post.
You can probably understand my confusion here and while I'm VERY happy that it all worked out, I don't understand why it worked with only 2 of the partitions but not with the recommended 3 of them?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hmmm. I'm definitely no pro at this stuff, in fact i'm very new when it comes to using TWRP, but this is what happened with me.
First of all, the backup that I did was simply a folder of files, not zip.
Transferred that do my PC, wiped my phone with TWRP and replaced the backup folder back into the TWRP/Backup folder. However, after reading up on how to restore on about 10 different android sites/forums, only 1 post shared the most vital piece of information.
You folder has to be in the 'serial' number folder that's located in the 'Backup' folder for TWRP.
When I put my backup folder just into the TWRP/Backup folder, the Restore section would only see the folder itself but the partitions were not available/listed for selection.
Once I placed my Backup folder into the TWRP/Backup/e1oog75 (that alphanumeric name is just a random example made for visual clarity) folder, my partitions were visible and available for selection right away.
Hopefully this helps somewhat.

I am using CM9 ROM, I don't remember which one because I was flashing it a while ago. Something strange happended to it today. When i try to run my phone it gets stuck at CM9 animation. Tried wipes and fixes from recovery but it didn't work. I would do factory reset but i don't want to lose my apps. They are on my sd card mounted as internal with flashed script. I don't know will I lose them? Help me please.

I don't think that there is any other method so just do a full wipe
and leave in peace AND YA PRESS THANKS
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Make a backup of your current corrupt rom.
Flash same rom again without wiping anything.. see if that works.
If not..you have nandroid backup img.. take out whatever important data you need.
I made backup, flashed rom and phone runs but there is another problem. When I restore apps from my backup they don't work. When viewed from system settings they look like: com.sketchbook 0,00 B and gray icon with sd card. The same happened to superuser app so I don't even have su rights. Do you have any solution for this or I just have to start with new rom?
Use terminal.. type su..
If your root access is broken you have root it again. There are numerous softwares.. use your pc to retrieve your data from nandroid img. Using titanium to backup app from nandroid backup doesnt work.
I just reinstalled superuser app and it's working. Anyway I think I will just flash a new rom.

I face all problems with Mobile data not with Wi-fi, with wifi all the above apps are working normal. Yup I checked my internet connection with facebook app which works absolutely no issues and tried with other sites in browser as well. So mobile data connection works properly only the apps are not working after upgrade.
Any help would be appreciated.

First flash Stock V2 through SP Flash tool and then root your phone. Rooting is not successful currently on 4.1.1
Then you will have to install CWM recovery through Mobile Uncle Tool

Many thanks, I have rooted my phone now with Stock V2 ROM, but my actual problem was not able to access few apps coz they are not detecting the data connection from my simcard. What could be the solution for that?
Also now I am back to ICS 4.0.4. If I update jellybean do I loose my root access ??
This goes like in a circle problem never solved

Now reboot in to CWM recovery select 'advanced' option from there. You will find an option of 'fix permissions' selct that and leave your phone to do its work.
Once finished, reboot your phone and check.
No, you won't loose your root access if you install one of the available custom roms through CWMR (this includes flashing official V3 also). Search here in this forum to install one of your choice.

Follow these steps and install CWM flashable JB. You can download it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188828
1. Copy and paste downloaded ROM to your SD card's root folder
2. Take a backup of your current system from CWMR
3. Do a factory reset from CWMR (Don't do it from your OS)
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache from Advanced menu
6. Format system data by selecting format/system options within CWMR
7. Install new ROM (As downloaded) by clicking on install from SD card
8. Click on 'Fix Permissions' once the ROM is flashed successfully.
9. Reboot and you are done.
P.S. : Don't forget to take a backup of your data i.e. call log, contacts, sms etc. before following any steps given herein above.

i think problem is related to baseband or radio modem .. sometimes it comes after upgrade or rooting process . i have also faced it but dont have to worry about it just downgrade your canvas 2 again . it will fix all of your problem instantly . and yeah if you dont want to downgrade then try different baseband file while flashing .fls files.. hit like if i helped

You can install ROM Manager from PlayStore and use Clockworkmod to backup your ROM. Or you could also backup your rom by entering your device's recovery. You can trigger it by pressing a specific combination (Volume Up, Volume Down or both alternatively - depends on your device) of buttons while the device is switching on.
You can find elaborate explanations here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587607
Hope I helped.
In a nutshell, what you are looking for is called a making nandroid backup. There are many programs which can accomplish this. My favorite is 4EXT recovery, which you can download from the play store. It does require you have root to install 4EXT! After you have a program such as 4EXT or ClockworkMod which can make nandroid backups, then you can save them and restore them in the future. This is how you can return your phone to the exact way it was when you make the backup.
thank you for advising me 4EXT recovery and ROM Manager.
What about titanium backup?
i made a backup(i hope so) by Titanium backup, by selecting the option "Backup all user apps and system data".
my questions are:
1) is that enough for back up?
2) how can i restore it after installing a new rom?
3) in between the process of installing if my phone become dead or blank how it will possible to access titanium backup?
oh its so much complicated. plz any developer help me.
thanks in advance.
installed ROM Manager Premium v5.0.2.7
if select
1) "Flash CWM Recovery"
asks to confirm ph model-> select iris 454 -> says "it does not have an official supported CWM yet. Have u installed a cwm based recovery manually?" -> if i select "yes," 2 option comes for confirm version cmw 2.x and cmw 3.x -> after selecting one of those nothing happen.
2) Backup current ROM
displays "new backup name..." -> if i click OK the system reboot. -> in reboot process an android symbol comes and suddenly it lay down like a wounded man. -> system hangs ->only removing battery makes it solve.
Yes, that's enough backup. You have backed up all your system data and applications. So you can restore your phone's last known working state.
After installing a new ROM, you can download Titanium Backup from PlayStore and use it to restore everything.
Note: Some ROM's don't have PlayStore available in their package in which case you'd have to download the gapps package separately and flash it too while flashing the ROM.
You cannot use Titanium Backup if your phone doesn't come alive. You'd have to restore the stock ROM or flash some other known-to-be-working ROM. You can then restore your stuff.

I've never used a nandroid backup, I usually do a backup with go backup (sms, phone log, wifi passwords and apps with preferences) which is an easy and intuitive app. If something fails i have a tested rom which i flash before do anything else.
Why it's better to do a nandroid backup and not just this??

thnx dear.
titanium backup is enough for me.
but now what about" if your phone doesn't come alive"? how should i restore the stock ROM if it is unavailable?
can i make stock rom or make a back up of stock rom? how?
Sewrizer said:
this means that your device is not supported by CWM recovery so there is not much to do, unless your stock recovery can perform the same tasks as CWM. for instance sgs2 recovery mode only allows you to install zip and to wipe cache and factory reset.
On the other hand there is a risky method you may try but i am not sure whether it would work. Install odin on your PC or mobile odin on your device and look for a kernel which has CWM recovery in it. THIS IS A RISKY OPERATION SO THINK BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I'm saying this because i bricked my sgs2 and the only way i could make it work was to restore, but again, you need CWM to restore. good luck.
hit thanks if i helped or reply/ send me a PM if you need further details.

You can find the entire procedure for backing up your Stock ROM here: http://androidadvices.com/backup-stock-rom-clockworkmod-rom-manager/
In order to restore Stock ROM, turn off your phone, boot your phone into recovery and use the restore option in the screen you see.

Can you put your phone in recovery mode? I if so, take a picture of it and post it in a reply.

[Q] Device Hung up on boot screen-SVHD

Hi All,
Today suddenly my device hung up on Android screen and it doesn't go forward. I waited for like 10-15 min, pulled the battery out and rebooted but nothing happens(it still is stuck up on boot screen). I have been on this ROM for more than 8 months from now. What could go wrong suddenly?
Device: Inspire 4G
ROM: SVHD
Can anyone suggest me how to get past it without probably loosing my data?
Thanks!!

no no..dont restore the data in recovery
use titanium backup to extract the wanted APKs and data from the backup after installing a clean ROM
May I suggest restoring your broken backup (even if it fails) and reinstall SVHD over it without wiping anything except Dalvik, cache and battery stats. If everything else fails checkout one of the newer kitkat roms and manually restore your data partition or anything else needed. You can manually backup data or any other partition through AROMA file manager through recovery hope I help you out bro. Have a nice day.

Can I know how to achieve this. Usually I restore a backup that's created from titanium backup. But as I don't have TB files, how to restore the data from system backup from Titanium Backup?

Hello,
My DHD hung up with Cyanogenmod, one week after intallation. the same problem with SVHD.
several roms were tested, some with bugs and others without bugs but slow in using or other reboots when the camera is used.
Finally, I installed a rooted stock rom, (Android 2.3.5), every thing works correctly.
Best regards
