Can you restore apex_data to nova launcher - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I just wanted to ask if someone ever tried to restore apex_data (renamed so it fits to nova) into nova launcher. the data file stores the homescreen layout and since this is the same in both launchers i was wondering if it could work?
Reason why im asking is that im using apex launcher right now and i want to try nova but i do not want to put all the apps back on their screen position...
Cheers
Matt

not possible.. However you can use an app called desk migrate.. it is used to migrate home screen settings from one launcher too other.. it works on go launcher.. don't know if it works with other launcher too.. you can give it a try..
Sent from my fingers to your face using xda premium.!

At least on my GB phone desk migrate worked perfectly to get the Homescreens of the other launchers.
But havent tested it on ICS so far.

I have yet to get DeskMigrate to do anything in ICS. I've like to copy LauncherPro's desktops to Apex or Nova, but it does nothing. Offers which launcher to copy from, and that's it.

i guess nova settings can be restored in apex

Odd problem with HelixLauncher 2 and Bettercut

I'm having this weird problem when using BetterCut with Helix Launcher, ADW Launcher and/or Launcher Pro. It seems that whenever i make a shortcut on the homescreen, Bettercut doesn't list the shortcut when i want to edit it (to change the icon). This only works when using the stock Nexus launcher.
Any ideas? Thanks.
wow thats crazy because im experiencing the same issue. i tried to make a shortcut on launcher pro helix 2 and awd. did you just download cyan 5071 alone? cuz i downloaded the kang o rama bundle and i thought maybe it was that.

well idk what i did but instead of using the kang o rama i just flashed 5071 and nextheme and everything works as normal. i can use betterbut on any launcher
I'm not running any mod'ed Rom, just standard stock (2.1, ERE27) rooted, of course.
It's really annoying and i can't figure out what the problem is. What i did find out, however, is that if i launch the stock launcher, add the shortcut, start better cut and edit it it, then go back to the HelixLauncher, the edited icon appears. Then i can go back to the stock launcher and delete the icon, and then back again to HelixLauncher and the icon is still there.
It works, but it's not exactly intended way
Use FileOrganizer, it work perfectly in any Launcher. Just forget about Better Cut, it always problematic.

Alternative to Desk Migrate

Does anyone know of any alternatives to desk migrate? I looked through the market and couldn't find anything. Would be nice if someone could come up with something similar that actually worked with most/ more launchers.
I'd appreciate app like this too
I need too

[Q] New 4.0 update - some bugs...

Hey all,
I have noticed ever since the new update that when I have go launcher ex running as my active launcher, at times the widgets on my home screen do not update.
Funny thing is, when I auto rotate the screen and then rotate it back to normal the widgets update. I actually have to do this to update them.
Anyone else have this issue with go launcher ex? I have contacted them but they do not reply so I figured to see if anyone in here has the same issue.
I am using the stock launcher right now. The problem does not appear to happen with the stock. Any good recommendation on a launcher to use momentarily that has no issues with the new 4.0?
I have also noticed that Go SMS has issues as well, it will at times not respond. Again with the stock launcher no issues with Go SMS.
It sounds like a bug in GoLauncherEx.
Try Nova Launcher (my favorite)

Or Apex Launcher

Bummer.... I like go launcher ex cause they don't make me pay for the premium app to categorize my app drawer apps in folders....
I've tried Go Launcher and the Nova and I like better the Nova to ICS

[Q] ADWLauncher with stock ICS drawer

Using a Xoom and I'm redoing my hubs layout and the only one that it works fully with and that I want to use is ADW. Now that being said I also like the stock app drawer. Now I guess my question is, is there anyway to use the stock app drawer with ADW even if it's only a shortcut.
You can make it look like it, but you wont have the tabs.

Haven't used ADW in absolutely ages (GO Launcher is by far the best IMO) but set the background to black and set the transition to 'stack' if it's available. GO Launcher has all of this and it has tabs which you can customise the look of. Just sayin'
Try Holo Luncher based on ADW sources

Highly recommend Nova Launcher for S3

Hey folks,
I highly recommend replacing the touch Wiz launcher with nova launcher. I have found it much more intuitive, and much easier to use. (I am not affiliated with Nova in any way.)
Several advantages:
1. The bottom bar (dock) of apps is highly customizable, with as many apps as you choose. You can also create multiple pages of docked apps, so it's possible to access 10 or 15 apps on the lower dock.
2. The App drawer is automatically alphabetized, unlike touch Wiz, which I find so much easier to use. There are of course workarounds on touch Wiz, but why bother? I just dock the icon for the app drawer on the lower dock so it's always available.
3. Nova has one step back up of your screen layouts so that if you are wiping your phone regularly in order to reflash ROM's, it's trivial to reset your screen layouts by doing a restore from nova. This saves a lot of tweaking time.
4. You can customize the layout of your desktop with variable margins, a persistent search bar on all pages, gestures, and with nova launcher prime ($4), you also get unread counts for SMS, missed calls, and Gmail, which is very nice.
5. Basically everything is customizable and modifiable. I greatly prefer it over the stock touch Wiz launcher. Check out the free version of nova, as it has virtually all the features other than the unread counts.
I personally prefer apex but I can see the appeal in nova. They are pretty similar.

I tried Apex but had a super annoying rendering hug that would display a box on the main home screen for a split second...
Not even considering that I spent a few hours tweaking Apex for a few hours (loved that it had so many options) but 90% of the Nova defaults were perfect for me and after going from Apex to Nova was convinced that it was right for me.

Have you tried Go launcher?
Just fyi... the "work around" to get the app drawer alphabetized is clicking the menu button with the app drawer open and then clicking, "view type" and switching to alphabetized. Not exactly complicated. Or even a work around.
Nova is great, but I'm actually enjoying touchwiz. I do want to switch over and play with nova more... But eh, not seeing a huge need. Coming from sense (which I hated) I'm quite happy on tw.
Though I do miss being able to back everything up

How does ADW work on it. I have been rocking them for a while. I am picking my S3 up next weekend when I get back in town. My wife already has hers though and she is rubbing it in my face lol.
adw for ics is apex, is it not?

i start to use ADW ex on my old EVO and is really good launcher, by personal reasons i movo to iphone and now that i back to android i found more launchers, and Nova is really good maybe even better than ADW ex, IMO
Using Apex launcher plus. I tried Nova first, but Apex has a few more features. Just my opinion. Coming from my Dinc running Holo launcher after a VERY long run with LauncherPro (rip).

I've been using nova launcher for about a week and I like it a lot. It's very smooth and very fast. It is easily customizable as well.

Any idea what's up with the widget selector for Nova? I click on the widgets tab and instead of the expected widget drawer I get a list of widgets similar to ginger bread.
Is this a feature that's unlocked with nova prime? Or is that widget drawer option something different? Other than that Nova is pretty sweet!

Tried this? On my last rooted phone, Droid Incredible, it worked perfectly. Haven't tried it on this phone though cuz I don't feel the need to root. REQUIRES ROOT:

I'm running GL - i like it allot.. runs great on the sgs3 with/ICS theme
Apex and Nova are both based on the stock 4.0.x ICS launcher, so they're very similar, but Apex gives more features for free.
You're definitely making a mistake if you use Go Launcher or ADW or LauncherPro on this phone, since those are Gingerbread-based. The ICS launcher is just a much, much better base.

You just need root.
If you have root you can go to Nova Settings... Drawer and enable Widgets in Drawer.
