I just got the Nexus S. Before installing CM 7 i tried out the stock launcher with a live wallpaper running. I was surprised at how smooth it was and that it had a very nice way of scrolling through the app drawer. After installing CM7 and launcher pro plus i noticed that opening the app drawer wasn't as smooth with a live wallpaper running and it didn't have the nice way of scrolling. Launcher pro has many more features but the stock did have that smoothness. Is there anyway to get this on launcher pro?
You could try playing with the settings and see if you can normalize it.
There are other alternatives to launchers if you like.
ADW Launcher EX (Paid), ADW Launcher (Free), GO Launcher EX, and more.

not sure what you mean by normailzing. also i would like to use launcher pro only. thanks!
Launcher pro is almost always smoother than stock launcher. But with live wallpaper I know what you mean with the choppy app drawer. Only solution is use static wallpaper instead.
damn that sucks..thanks anyways
The only launcher where the app drawer stays smooth with a live wallpaper selected is the stock launcher, all the other ones get choppy.

Here is a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517 it's a zip that removes adw and add stock launcher
Stock launcher is the only one that can use hardware acceleration therefore it will always be faster/smoother than any 3rd party launcher.
with the exception of UD Launcher which was used in nscollab for only two releases. Loved it because it was just as smooth and basically the same as the stock launcher but gave you more home-screens and a 5 button dock option and saved a lot of battery even!!!
But then again I guess it is based directly on the stock launcher - at least that'd be my guess.

yes it does, only on the nexus s so far with gingerbread. other phones it is powered by the CPU like normal. i guess google wanted to take advantage of the nexus s powerful hardware. just wish they did it for the rest of the phone, like the web browser, etc.
Yes that's true. Stock Launcher is smoother than ADW, ADW EX and LauncherPro.
I realized that a few weeks ago.
How do i enable the stock launcher? I downloaded Gingerbread Launcher from the market? is that the same thing?
Is it possible to flash a launcher to be the default launcher? (Looking at AOSP Laucher - (I'm looking to get a launcher of that style not necessarily that launcher)). I currently have that launcher but it is not "default" to me in a sense that it shows up as a task. If it is possible to flash a launcher, how may I do it?
I am more concerned about getting the style of bar on the bottom home screen so that I can also use it in landscape mode (Andromeda 3)
Thank-you for your patience and understanding, I'm a noob!
App adw launcher on market place should be able to do all that, it'll give you the option to make default.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
You can flash a launcher, but you don't have to.
Launcher can be installed like any other app and set as default.
A launcher is installed just like any other APK not flashed. ADW EX is a great launcher. I personally prefer LauncherPro, there is a paid version and free version. For an easy way to switch between the launchers, you can download an app called Home Switcher which will allow you switch launchers from the app drawer. You can find it in the Market. Another great launcher would be GOLauncherEX which has a ton of skins and modifications.
Ahh thanks guys. I found a rom serendipity seven. It has my favorite launcher so I'm good to go!
Sincerely,
Your Noob.

Hey all,
I have always been a fan of other home launchers like launcher pro and go launcher.
What i have noticed though is that they are not "tabled optimized".
With that i mean that you still have the dock like you have on your phone and the icons and widgets are much smaller.
Is there a way to get one of them working the same way as the default launcher?
I like the sizes and i don't need the dock, only thing i do want is the extra options which the alternative launchers provide and i do believe they are smoother than the default launcher.
Thanks!
Try ADWLauncher EX. It's tablet optimized, has a ton of options and the launcher bar can be hidden or not used if you want.

i often get that when i wake my TF that it laggs al little or needs to reload all the widgets and icons.
I want to see if this is due to the default launcher by using a different launcher.
But all the other launchers have smaller icons, have the dock, have other widget sizes, and the app list is ugly!
so far i tried LP, ADW, GO.
None have the same sizes as the default one, so i was wondering if this can be adjusted with some simple settings..
As far as I know you can't adgust the size of the icons on the dock. I also wanted to do this but was unable to. As for resizing all other icons, go into the ADWLauncher EX settings > Icons > New Icons Settings > Icon Size and you will be given a slider to adjust the icon sizes.
Most widgets can be resized using ADWLauncher EX. There are some that will not resize despite what you do.

Not the answer i was hoping for
so i guess i will have to wait until one of them makes a tablet version the wait i want it
or seem to find out why my launcher lags or needs to reload everything.
Maybe its prime.
I use desktop visualizer app to resize my icons. You can download PNG files from Google or Bing to create custom icons as well. Works well with adw ex. You can have your icon take up the whole screen if you really want to.
Sent from xda premium app
ADW EX has The ability to use larger icons. Its in asd settings/ui/icons. Then just check the box for the density hack. Makes the icons the same size as the asus launcher. ADW is what I use and it is a huge improvement over the stock launcher IMHO. For those looking to hide the dock and expand the desktop area it does that to. You just need to select that in the main dock settings, then in the new hidden dock settings disable that to and presto no more dock.

I personally like the hidden dock. I just swipe down and it goes away, swipe down again and it comes right back. Kind of like touchwiz mini apps.

With Folder Organizer app, you won't ever need to go to app list. Just add the container labels to the Home screen or notification area. App Organizer is an alternative from the same developer.

Having purchased SPB shell 3d for my phone, I've tried it on my Asus as well. Performance is OK but I don't like that you can see parts of the adjacent screens. Not running it right now on either phone or tablet.
After it's last update, I think ADW blows everything else out of the water. It's really nice.

Desktop vizualizer makes icfons at half size, with no way to fix as far as i can tell, i've told them but have gotten no reply.
folder organizer items work, but it places the shortcuts as a widget instead of a shortcut like it did in honeycomb.
so right now i have no way to add normal shortcuts to my homescreen with a custom icon.
does anyone have any apps that work properly?
I used adw for my custom shortcuts

not really a lot of help. i'm not asking for a custom launcher. ICS launcher is just fine. i just want to be able to actually make custom icons like i could in honeycomb.
i find it really hard to believe that no one running this tablet on ICS with a stock launcher is using custom icons. come on.

Have you tried Nova Launcher? Its basically the Stock Launcher, but allows for editing/resizing Icons and Widgets. Plus, you can install Icon packs for ADW and manually assign Icons of your choice to whatever you want...then resize them if you want.
Nova has a free version, and a Prime version with a few extra fun features. Both are in the Market.
yeah i've tried nova and the others, and personally i don't like/want to use them. i find the stock launcher just fine.
i'm just annoyed because for the first time in android history, i can't make custom icons work right. and i'm just shocked that it seems that no one else here is using custom icons on a stock launcher.

So you seem to be stuck on using the Stock launcher.
Well if you had tried Nova as you said, then I got to know, what about Nova didn't you like? I mean, Nova is basically stock from the look, and it adds the ability to use custom icons or ones from an icon pack, and allows you to resize them...which is what you are complaining about.
So, what is it about needing/wanting to use stock launcher, when Nova is stock with a few added features, one of which is using custom icons.
i don't have my TF rooted, so i lose the widgets menu, it doesn't have the tablet transitions, app drawer is 5x5 instead of 8x5. and to be honest, it's not as smooth as the stock ics launcher for me.
and honestly, i'm just still in a shock that apparently everyone is just using nova or adw.
i refuse to believe that i am the only person on this forum with an ICS transformer that is using the stock launcher with custom icons. that cannot be possible.
Hey folks,
I highly recommend replacing the touch Wiz launcher with nova launcher. I have found it much more intuitive, and much easier to use. (I am not affiliated with Nova in any way.)
Several advantages:
1. The bottom bar (dock) of apps is highly customizable, with as many apps as you choose. You can also create multiple pages of docked apps, so it's possible to access 10 or 15 apps on the lower dock.
2. The App drawer is automatically alphabetized, unlike touch Wiz, which I find so much easier to use. There are of course workarounds on touch Wiz, but why bother? I just dock the icon for the app drawer on the lower dock so it's always available.
3. Nova has one step back up of your screen layouts so that if you are wiping your phone regularly in order to reflash ROM's, it's trivial to reset your screen layouts by doing a restore from nova. This saves a lot of tweaking time.
4. You can customize the layout of your desktop with variable margins, a persistent search bar on all pages, gestures, and with nova launcher prime ($4), you also get unread counts for SMS, missed calls, and Gmail, which is very nice.
5. Basically everything is customizable and modifiable. I greatly prefer it over the stock touch Wiz launcher. Check out the free version of nova, as it has virtually all the features other than the unread counts.
I personally prefer apex but I can see the appeal in nova. They are pretty similar.

I tried Apex but had a super annoying rendering hug that would display a box on the main home screen for a split second...
Not even considering that I spent a few hours tweaking Apex for a few hours (loved that it had so many options) but 90% of the Nova defaults were perfect for me and after going from Apex to Nova was convinced that it was right for me.

Just fyi... the "work around" to get the app drawer alphabetized is clicking the menu button with the app drawer open and then clicking, "view type" and switching to alphabetized. Not exactly complicated. Or even a work around.
Nova is great, but I'm actually enjoying touchwiz. I do want to switch over and play with nova more... But eh, not seeing a huge need. Coming from sense (which I hated) I'm quite happy on tw.
Though I do miss being able to back everything up

Any idea what's up with the widget selector for Nova? I click on the widgets tab and instead of the expected widget drawer I get a list of widgets similar to ginger bread.
Is this a feature that's unlocked with nova prime? Or is that widget drawer option something different? Other than that Nova is pretty sweet!

Apex and Nova are both based on the stock 4.0.x ICS launcher, so they're very similar, but Apex gives more features for free.
You're definitely making a mistake if you use Go Launcher or ADW or LauncherPro on this phone, since those are Gingerbread-based. The ICS launcher is just a much, much better base.
