[Q] New 4.0 update - some bugs... - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I have noticed ever since the new update that when I have go launcher ex running as my active launcher, at times the widgets on my home screen do not update.
Funny thing is, when I auto rotate the screen and then rotate it back to normal the widgets update. I actually have to do this to update them.
Anyone else have this issue with go launcher ex? I have contacted them but they do not reply so I figured to see if anyone in here has the same issue.
I am using the stock launcher right now. The problem does not appear to happen with the stock. Any good recommendation on a launcher to use momentarily that has no issues with the new 4.0?
I have also noticed that Go SMS has issues as well, it will at times not respond. Again with the stock launcher no issues with Go SMS.

It sounds like a bug in GoLauncherEx.
Try Nova Launcher (my favorite)

Or Apex Launcher

Bummer.... I like go launcher ex cause they don't make me pay for the premium app to categorize my app drawer apps in folders....

I've tried Go Launcher and the Nova and I like better the Nova to ICS

[Q] Can you make home screen show as landscape on stock?

Just curious because the home screen never goes to landscape when you tilt the phone and the other screens to the right and left of the home screen?
I think Launcher Pro will allow you to do this.
ADW launcher also has this feature.
Yeah, you're going to have to use a launcher if you want the home screens to switch to landscape. Launchers are worth it, though. Gives you more room for customizing.
What are these programs you guys mentioned? Are they Apps? Where do I get them? Do I just download and that's that? I'm not rooted....completely stock and unlocked.
I'll throw in my nomination for GO Launcher.

I also recommend GO Launcher.
Launcher Pro
+1 on both Launcher Pro / ADWLaunder
+1 for launcher pro
Is Launcher Pro still being updated? I quit using it several months ago because it seemed to be lagging behind in features. GO Launcher receives frequent updates and has a very strong feature set.

Best Launcher for HOX

I don't plan on rooting my phone until I feel like the phone has had a bit of time to establish itself.
What are some suggestions for a good launcher that works on ICS devices?
I've tried Nova and Apex so far, both are "stock-looking" ICS launchers. Neither are as smooth as the default Sense launcher.
That slight, almost imperceptible jittering as you scroll between home screens just kills the experience, IMO.
May just stick to sense for a while then..

Really? I thought the stock Sense launcher was terribly laggy. For example, if you haven't used your app drawer in a while, it takes one to two seconds to pop up.
Nova and Apex are extremely smooth.
im not getting my one x until the ninth so im just going by what im using on my atrix 2. you should try go launcher ex with the ics hd theme.
Adw is what I been using for since I had a android

Blame the app priority handling for that launch delay.
Nova is, imo, the best ICS launcher. i tried Apex and used it for a good while until the animations for opening the app drawer became extremely laggly. never had this problem with Nova.
I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus so I am used to stock 4.0. I just couldn't do the stock Sense Launcher, it wasn't terrible but I just wanted what I was used to. I used Nova Launcher (my first experience) and I am using Widget Locker as the lock screen. Ahhhh, much better. I also switched to the Stock ICS keyboard. Here are some Screen Shots.
First thing I did when I got my HOX today is go install Go Launcher EX. Sadly, it doesn't appear that Go Launcher EX has been updated for ICS yet, so it has the menu button at the bottom of the screen... yuck!
Guess I'll give these two (Apex, Nova) launchers a try and see how they work out. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give Sense a try either...

You use "Chrome", I thought I try it myself but one of reasons in the past I loved Android was the ability to run Flash.
I use Nova Launcher.
Found the Stock Launcher was lagged, but Nova runs only on ICS+ the pro version for a few dollars asks for no permissions at all.
The pro version allows me to hide shortcuts to Rogers Bloatware.

Apex launcher is where it's at my friends. I love hiding apps in the drawer

I decided to use Nova. Here's what my home screen looks like right now. I plan on changing the background and icon colors though, something darker, I don't know what I was thinking earlier!

The clock on the lock screen is part of WidgetLocker. The clock on the Launcher is Simi Clock Widget. I have played around a little more and have this thing looking almost stock (minus the menu bar).
Nevermind, had an issue with live wallpapers not working. Restarting fixed it.

Would be very cool if we can use the Nova launcher or Apex launcher with Sense widgets. Any way to make those work together ?
As far as I know it can't be done, but search for Android Pro Widgets in the Android Market and it's pretty cool - can be themed too.
Nova Launcher is what i was using before on my GNex. finally got it set up the same on the HOX and it runs smoother. before when i'd be on another page except the homescreen and hit the home button, there would be a little stutter happening at least 1 out of every two times. this never happens on the HOX. ever. smooth as butter. very happy with my setup now
hello
im new here

[Q] Ads on status bar, using go launcher ex

Hi,
I keep getting these ads on the go launcher ex every time i reboot my device. Anyone else get this? Can you get rid of it and how do you do that? Also, i would use Apex Launcher, but then my email doesn't work, and if i use nova launcher, my wifi doesn't work. with Go Launcher everything is working but these ads, its a start on top where the status bar is.
Launchers can't prevent Mail and WiFi to works...
(They can put ads but I never seen them with GoLauncher EX.)
Looks like you got something really bad somewhere...

Did you download any apps before any launchers? I used go launcher ex on my SG2, but never seen any ads.
download appbrain add detector, that will tell you what app is giving the advertisements
Thanks,
I noticed that it is the Go Widgets that actually give the ads on the status bar. I have changed from Go Launcher Ex to Nova Launcher and everything works fine, except the email, but got around that. Thank you for all the help.
I still don't get why the launchers are giving you trouble. I have used ton of them and never got anything like you have mentioned here.

Can you restore apex_data to nova launcher

Hello,
I just wanted to ask if someone ever tried to restore apex_data (renamed so it fits to nova) into nova launcher. the data file stores the homescreen layout and since this is the same in both launchers i was wondering if it could work?
Reason why im asking is that im using apex launcher right now and i want to try nova but i do not want to put all the apps back on their screen position...
Cheers
Matt
not possible.. However you can use an app called desk migrate.. it is used to migrate home screen settings from one launcher too other.. it works on go launcher.. don't know if it works with other launcher too.. you can give it a try..
Sent from my fingers to your face using xda premium.!
At least on my GB phone desk migrate worked perfectly to get the Homescreens of the other launchers.
But havent tested it on ICS so far.
I have yet to get DeskMigrate to do anything in ICS. I've like to copy LauncherPro's desktops to Apex or Nova, but it does nothing. Offers which launcher to copy from, and that's it.
i guess nova settings can be restored in apex

[Q] Trying out several launchers

So I'm fairly new to the android OS and recently got an HTC One X. I haven't really done enough research to actually get around to rooting it, but for now I've been having fun running different launchers since I have grown tired of the Sense UI. I have currently messed around with GO Launcher EX and Nova, but there are a few more I also want to experiment with (Apex, Launcher Pro, ADW etc.)
When I switch to a new launcher and save it as default does it erase the screen and widget set up of the previous launcher? If go back to Nova for instance will I have to set the screens up again? I noticed when I went back to Sense from Nova everything I had organized in Sense was gone. Is there an app of something that will save this?
It shouldn't unless you erase the data yourself, though I don't know about Sense itself.
I tried out multiple launchers on my phone and never had loss of configurations (except when intentional).
No, you can safely change and default between Launchers, so long as you don't 'clear data' for that Launcher. Rosie (Sense) included
I've encountered some stability issues with LauncherPro on Android versions greater than Gingerbread, and it hasn't been updated in a long time, but it's still my favourite Launcher for older phones
Have fun!
Try the holo launcher. I love it because it is clean and straightforward.
Thanks for the answers, Holo kind of reminds me of Nova which I liked so I'll try it also!
I liked Nova and Apex almost as much, but Apex won out for me since I really needed infinite scrolling in the app drawer.

try to backup every time you want to switch different launcher..
i think every launcher have backup-restore feature
sorry for my english.
If you change between launchers it can happen that widgets etc. you had on your screen can disappear due to different stuff the launchers put on your homescreen by default. Other than that all should be the same - if you didnt delete anything vital
From personal experience I favour apex launcher: it's clean, highly customizable, good looking and fast.
