Hi!
I'm actually Gio user, my friend has Galaxy Fit. And he is asking me some help for installing CM7.
After do some research at devv section. I found this CWM recovery [DEV] Clockworkmod Recovery for GT-S5670.
It's said the recovery doesn't support RFS file system, and won't work at Stock ROM. My friend running GB 2.3.6 Stock ROM.
In Gio there is moded flashable CWM recovery via stock recovery mode, while this one using Odin.
So I'm afraid to brick his device, since this recovery doesn't support RFS system and I could flash wrong file using Odin.
So, I need some advice and detailed step to flash CWM based recovery in stock ROM for installing CM7 for his Fit.
I appreciate all of your effort and time for helping me
That cwm doesn't support backup and restore if rfs (stock)...so after installing that cwm, you need to flash a custom rom (non cyanogen first, preferably)...then you shall be able to use nandroid backups and restore feature...
Backups feature only for custom ext4 roms (all are), not for stock rfs...
Get it?
(P.s. read the sticky, everything is there )

I have rooted my LG G2X and flashed the Clockwork Recovery image using ROM Manager. I have read that this is a "fake flash" but I have booted into recovery using ROM Manager and done a nandroid backup and it seems to work fine? I have a 2 GIG SD installed and it looks like Clockwork only works from the external SD card?
I am running the stock ROM at the moment until I can find a stable custom ROM to use as my daily driver. I want to keep the phone rooted and the recovery image intact until I find a stable custom ROM.
I am looking for the procedure to flash back to stock recovery and unroot if I have to return the phone for repair to T-Mobile in the future. If there is a stock recovery image that can be flashed using clockwork or a one-click method, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have the G2X Model LG P999
If you continue to boot into CWM using RomManager (for now) your stock recovery is still intact. If you want to return to stock from the point you're at, stick the stock nandroid restore image on your sd card and restore it. Then uninstall Titanium Backup and unroot the phone using the SuperOneClick root program. If you would like to continue flashing ROMs I suggest doing a *real* flash of CWM (which you can still reverse in the future) in case you end up in boot loops and cannot access RomManager. Could ROM Manager fake Flash Clockworkmod recovery be responsible for bricking phones on LG update? Let me explain what I mean - Lots of people, like myself, installed ROM Manager and its CWM because we did not know it's not real Flash. Then We switched to "real" CWM. Now the question is when we do normal stock recovery in order to get official GB update, does this CWM of ROM manager still remains in the phone? If so, could it be that it contributed to the troubles updating through LG tool? How can I make sure I removed it from the phone?
Thanks!
Yes. Many people have confirmed that not having the stock recovery on the device is a road to Bricksville. Even though you are fake flashed there is code inserted somewhere to redirect to the fake flash, and the recovery images for flash (normally installed every boot) have been deleted or renamed. You should flash stock recovery with NVFlasher to make sure you are back at a clean stock recovery before using the LG Update tool.
Thanks but what I mean is that AFTER I realized it's fake flash I installed "real" CWM. So when I do stock on this "real", does CWM rom manager still remains in the phone and how can I remove it?

so I am a little confused I used CWM to make a backup before I did anything to my phone. And I was already on the 2.3.3 lg update. So if I restore that I should be back to stock and CWM should still be there right? But lets say LG comes out with another update (Doubtful) and I want to use it I should use the NVflash to reture the phone to stock? if I use NVflash will that put me back on froyo 2.2.2 or GB 2.3.3?
Also I used rom manager to make a backup of the rom I was on which was the stock rooted so is that fake or what the hell is fake? is it the first option in rom manager the CWM recovery? is it the same if I use CWM stock recovery? in cwn itself? Oh I am so confused someone help me
ROM Manager cannot flash directly to the phone so it "fake flashes" CWM recovery. It only installs a few files to the system so that when you run recovery the stock recovery runs an "upate" and that launches CWM recovery from your SD card. Just return the phone to GB 2.3.3 stock and be happy with it. If you restore using CWM it will remain there, so you should use NVFlash to restore stock recovery also.

I have BOTH - CWM AND CWM through the ROM Manager. So if use NV Flash to go to stock, is the CWM from ROM manager still in the phone and how can I remove it?
Thanks!
so what I am getting out of this is rom manager is crap and dont use it. If you just use CWM to do your flashing and backups and recoverys you should be ok.

Thanks but my questions are:
1. If I go to stock using NV Flasher, is ROM Manager's CWM still going to be in the phone, since I have BOTH?
2. Can it BRICK my phone if I do the LG update then?
3. How can I make sure I removed BOTH - NV Flash CWM AND ROM Manager CWM?
I have a question about CWM. I installed it on my stock rom and now it says unable to mount /system. will i be able to flash other custom roms? and if i can how to make a backup of current rom?
p.s. i made a backup of all my apps via Titanium Backup Pro, and if i install it on new rom will it be able to restore those apps there? and does flashing a kernel and rom changes my baseband version?
choose the backup option from cwm menu.

And do you know an answer for other questions?
no you need to re-install all apps from the android market.
after re-installation, you can restore your saved data like high scores/achievements and all.

The cwm doesnt work for stock roms because tj style has clearly mentioned that the recovery wont work custom or stock rom using rfs file systems.....you cant do backup using cwm..you can only backup boot and recovery image...to backup apps use appmonster pro......the apps will be backed up in your sd then after flashing your new rom you can install them from sd....you can flash custom roms...
any other doubts post it here
please press thanks if i have helped you

no, because stock rom has rfs file system, so cwm cant make a backup of stock systems, but after you flash the custom rom you can create a backup of any custom rom that supports ext4 file system... and if you want to make a backup of your installed apps use titanium backup, it worked best for me, and you can use it on any rom...
whatever appmonster can do, titanium can do as well...
why have two apps, when one does the entire job (and even more)??
also, backups made by titanium (apk as well as data) are compressed...so you get a little more space on your card...
Good day XDA forums,
If I restore a TWRP recovery, do I need the original kernal? I tried restoring Nocturnals Jelly Bean that I backed up in recovery. It did not work without me restoring the kernal through ADB from the ROM first. The reason i'm asking is because I do not have the original kernal, although I do have a backup through TWRP of the original ROM.
you still need to fastboot the kernel for whatever rom your a restoring. i would definitely install flashimagegui to allow on the fly kernel flashing. just make sure to flash kernel beforehand or you will have to find a pc.
I backed up my sgh t959v before installing custom rom. When i wanted to restore it error comes can't mount cache. please give me solution. i have already done cwm updat.
How did you back it up?
What ROM did you have previously?
What ROM did you install?
Why do you believe that the backup can be restored over the new ROM?
i backed up my phone by cwm recovery. I have custom kernel installed 5.x.x . I used the rom slimsaber 4.4.2 . Help me cause I'm not a pro like u. Thanx in advance

My first guess is that the kernel from Slim doesn't partition the disk the same way as most other ROMs for our phone.
If you can be very specific about what you've done and what you want to accomplish, we can probably get you there. ROMs and versions will be very important

Both Roms use different partitions. Kj6 is bml and saber is mtd. It ain't gonna happen.
In order to restore you'll first need to flash back to stock kj6. Then install antonx's kernel (or blastoff) and then you'll be able to restore using cwm.
That's about the long and short of it. All ICS, JB, and KK ROMs use a low-level way ("MTD") of accessing the internal "disk" that isn't compatible with the older "BML" method found in OEM ROMs and other Froyo and many GB ROMs. Additionally, Dao's recent KK ROMs use a subtly different version of MTD than other MTD ROMs.
While you could restore /system and /data from one major release to another, this is not recommended. It's dicey going up in version and then restoring (for example, from ICS to JB), and likely impossible going back. A tool like Titanium Backup (Pro) can help, but sometimes you're just stuck.
The general way of dealing with an internal "disk" change is (not including backup/restore):
Boot to recovery
Install the new kernel (can be "flash the ROM")
Reboot to recovery
Format all internal partitions
Install the ROM
Boot into the ROM
You generally will need app-level backups (for example Titanium Backup) to transition your data.
Going from BML to MTD worked on Team Acid MTD ROMs, such as CM9. I can't comment on other ROMs.
To go from MTD to BML a full re-flash using heimdall or the like is recommended.
To go between Froyo and Gingerbread absolutely requires re-flash -- see other threads for details.
