[Q] CPU Settings for games? - Motorola Triumph

Bought Mass Effect Infiltrator today as it was on sale. Wouldn't boot until I installed Chainfire 3D and disabled MapBuffer Emu I think it was.
Now after logging into Origin for first time, it crashes phone every time I try and reload the game.
My question: Whats the best SetCPU settings? I've been trying a number of max settings, and governors, and all have caused phone to reboot. If anyone knows a magic setting that would keep me from rebooting for hours and hours, it would make my night much easier.
Or are there other tricks I can try?

It doesn't seem to be the phone's settings. Have you tried some other ROMs? I don't know if it was posted here or not, but CM7 reloaded had a change in the video driver and may prove diagnosticly beneficial. What ROM are you running? You may want to try a FroYo ROM. Maybe one with b_kernel?

It runs fine for me on Minimal Triumph and Sharp Roms.

Running AOKP, which i realize will likely be the most problematic. Quallcomm plugin in chainfire got it running, though phone got super hot and the text was completely illegible.

I think AOKP is gingerbread, right? Do you know what drivers they are using? If stock, they would have their hands full trying to make all of the connections

Set CPU

Just wondering if anyone is using Set CPU now that we have root. I have it my phone but other than using auto settings im a little bit lost. Im just wondering if anyone has suggestions for the custom settings. Maybe some options for performance settings in particular. I want this thing to run like a rocket ship!

I dint seem to have much luck to be honest. considering the benchmark test somewhere on esato my marks were decent in the first 3 areas except for last area, FS, which ended up bad!!
I just got rid of alot of the in built apps and its running really smooth (4 now)

I made a profile with condition: screen off and max to 384 but, when the phone is locked, and I unlock it, it becomes laggy for a moment before getting the full 1ghz. I kinda didnt like it so changed the max to 576 and now it working properly.
But Im not sure whether its saving my battery juice or not ..
I cant remember where but i think in this forum there is another post about increasing bat life with setcpu. It has the profiles i was looking for. My phone seems to be working great with them. Im not at my pc but ill look later to see if i can find it and then post the link. Cheers

@wingz85
Bingo! That is it. My settings match these almost exactly, exception of my low bat is set to <20%, and my phone works great.
cheers
was poking around in the init scripts on stock system, and found that cpu scaling is already done in the stock environment

Setcpu?

Anyone here try setcpu on your Galaxy S 4G?
I'm sure there is some "new and improved software" reason to not need it, but I figured I would try it to see if I could improve battery life in some way.
I'm still tinkering with the settings, but I think I have noticed a slight improvement. If you try it, don't set your screen-off speed to any lower than 400mhz. If you do your phone will slow to an unimaginable crawl, sometimes only to be recovered from with a reboot/battery pull.

You can use it but until there are custom kernels that allow you to underclock or overclock its gonna be a lost cause imo. At this point its only good for changing governors and possibly screen off profiles and things like that

It already hauls once I removed bloatware, my system is pretty "bare bone" now, and it's FAASSSTTT.
That being said, one of the main reasons I upgraded to this phone from my modded HTC HD2 was the battery life was horrible on that phone (comparible to an evo 4g as per many side by side tests with a friend who had a new one).
Battery on this phone is GARBAGE, basically the SAME battery life, maybe only slightly better if at all....
I thought technology was supposed to be improving. I mean I abuse the phone, It's my sole entertainment while I'm at work (I work at a call center). I'm doing things on it 24/7.
But I figured it would perform better than a non-native android phone, modded to run android, that's two years old.. (htc hd2)
I have been using an app called tegrak overclock. it seems to work great for me.

You can overclock without overclock kernel?

I just use setcpu to disable auto scaling..

TegraK seems to work. It's an "on demand, on the fly" patch that isn't persistent.
I see improvements in benchmarks and reads/writes. So, it seems to work. Every time you reboot though, you have to reset it.

Constant need for battery pulls

So these issues are getting more frequent. Today I had to pull the battery twice. One time, the phone froze with the screen on. Just now, the network dropped out and when I went to restart it, it never restarted. Went to a lit black screen with the soft keys lit up.
What is going on here? Could these be caused by rooting?
I am running stock ROM, ADW EX, S-OFF, Alpharev version of CWM. Could setCPU be causing these issues? I think I will freeze it for a few days and see how things go....
Please help!
Matt
It's most likely setcpu, rooting and s-offing the phone wouldn't cause issues like that.

Okay, I froze it using Titanium Backup. Any chance this is something that could be fixed at a later time? I like the idea of being able to overclock and underclock.
I know everyone is loving cyanogen. Is CM7 to have overclocking, similar to setCPU?
Thanks for the quick reply!
Matt
Overclocking is done by the kernel and not the ROM. If you haven't installed a custom kernel yet, than having SetCPU on your phone isn't doing much for you. CM7 has introduced their own built in way to set your CPU clock speed although you will still need a separate custom kernel to get any kind of overclock. Be patient, development only really kicked off recentlybwhen we got S Off.

Having trouble clocking

I am running miui and I have been wanting to clock my phone slightly for some time but no matter what kernel I use my phone crashes soon after I apply settings. It doesn't matter if I am clocking it any where between 1.2 or 1.5. I'm not sure if I am doing things wrong or what is going on. But I would really like to get it working. I will do my best to provide any info you need. please help me!

Some phones just don't like overclocking or underclocking I guess. Can I ask why are you wanting to overclock? I have found that overclocking is overrated. You really will not see much of a difference especially if you are use such a lite rom like cm7 or miui. When I first flashed my first rom I had a slight moment of...idiocy where all I cared about was to see how fast my quad score would go. Just fyi for future, quad scores are all crap they mean nothing lollll.
I got your 10 char right here
I had thought that it was my phone but I the first kennel I got that came with miui months back clocked my phone fine. Before I knew it the kernel was changed and every one I try my phone crashes. I just felt like for the little time before my phone crashes it seems to run everything smoother. Maybe i'm just convincing myself that. I partly wanted to figure out why my phone was crashing and learn something. I guess I can live with it not being clocked

[Q] Latency Issues

Does anyone have screen latency issues, and if so, how did you correct them?
I'm on Viper XL 3.2.6, Elemental X 5.2 and have basically reduced all OC/UV settings back to stock. When I go to wake my screen, the lock ring may be off to the side and it takes a second or two to relocate to the bottom of the screen. Then, it may unlock OK but when I go to do anything, there are delays. For example, I'll launch my Touchdown client and the PIN pad doesn't show up for a few seconds. Or I launch Apollo music and it takes a few seconds to show my installed music. Or my BT headset takes a while to connect.
All of this seemed more instant on older versions of this ROM, so I'm just wondering if there were any issues. I thought it was my overclocked GPU settings (3D 512 MHz, 2D 320 MHz), and once I reset those to stock it seemed to get better, but not as good as I think it should be. BTW, I am still getting relatively high scores in Quadrant Standard (in the high 6000s), so I know the thing is running fast.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!
I do not know if this will fix your problem but I was having the same issue. I noticed that when I went into the venom/ kernel folder there were 2 kernel images. I deleted the stock image and kept the elemental. Then ran the installer again and everything is working fine.

try changing minfree settings in tweaks app to stock
I don't have a Venom/Kernel folder. What versions are you on?

Lol don't think that's gonna work. That is for the venom installer I believe. Your kernel will not be there, and you cannot be running two kernels at once. Have you tried full wipe and flash a jb ROM keeping its stock kernel?

If setting minfree back to stock doesn't take care of it, that was my plan. Thanks for the suggestion.
