ETA: phone may be a little smoother? quad scores and linpack scores both stayed in the same range
is this to work with aosp and sense roms?
It seems to work with Static Nonsense...I can tell a difference but I wouldn't say its dramatic.
I lost root with this, then fixed it, but didn't notice any real improvement after that. Scores stayed the same.

Couldn't hurt. I have to admit my web pages are loading faster, transitions are smoother...apps seem to be loading quicker and overall I can tell a difference...but again I have to say its not a "I'm just blown away by this" difference.
Just wanted to add that after flashing this, the first boot took forever...so long in fact I thought I was gonna have to pull the battery and recover a recent backup.
It did improve overall. even lower bat. drain. Thank you dsexton702 for the share.

What ROM are you using?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
First boot took a little while for me as well using CM7 nightly, but I do definitely like the increase in how smooth everything feels.
Anyone using this with a Sense ROM?
I'm using with VU 2.35 sense 3.0 and it does wonders my score before at 1 ghz. Was 1800
Right after installing u.s.a.s still at 1 ghz jumped up to 2200 quadrent score.
After oc to 1.3 ghz my quadrent score was 2600
Runs very nice hard to tell difference as VU 2.35 runs so smooth but its an improvement
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Went from 1991 to 2056. VU 2.35 runs very nice, but was having a small hesitation when turning on screen and this seems to have fixed that issue. Very nice work
So if I cook this in, my autofill does NOT work in messaging, but if I flash it after a rom install its fine
This is an awesome tweak my processor has never been stable over 1.3 now Im running 1.7 ghz and its crazy fast got my quadrent score up to 3000 running this fast
Never had such a smooth experience doesn't matter how many apps are open.

Works before I install this.
Not a big deal but does suck having to go into phonebook and scroll threw alp my contacts to send a message
Just wonder if I can get the ease of typing the persons name back and keep this tweak

Hy there.i am the new owner of a super smartphone named sensation. I want to know what rom should i use for best performance and great battery life? I want to chose between the stock one, cm7 cyanogen, or android hd revolution. I see that most of you chose the revolutiob hd.....why?
I notice that i want a fully work rom, with all the features work properly.....so....what is the best rom for you?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
There is no "best" rom. Depends what you need. If you're new to the Sensation I suggest that you stay with the Stock ROM and kernel. In my personal opinion it's the most comprehensive solution that doesn't cause any side effects. I tried quite some of custom roms and either they where suffering from poor performance, contained bugs or just the battery drainage was unbearable. Not to mention that staying on the stock rom enables OTA updates.
What jackos is saying is right, there is no best rom. Its up to you to read through the threads and find a couple you like the look of. Then start flashing roms, eventually you'll find the one that does what you want. As long as you make backups you pretty much can't go wrong.
Thank you peopele for the answers.....

I would recommend giving Coredroid a shot.
They have released their final version, (2.7) it's a super stable ROM that i use as my daily, has great battery life (once calibrated) it's nice and fast and works without needing much (if any) tweaking.
But the best thing you can do is back up your current rom and try flashing a few, see what you like best. Sense or No-Sense, themed, stock, 3.0 or 3.5 there are many options.
Before I settled on Coredroid I tried CM7 and ARHD. I loved CM7 but I had a few issues with the ROM (mainly due to the camera) but I love CM7 and the support and updates that frequently get pushed out.
ARHD was great, everything was all good with that ROM, battery life was good once calibrated but I had issues with MMS that I couldn't fix so I tried out Coredroid and loved it.
The issues I had with CM7 and ARHD could have been fixed by me if I had the time and patience but Coredroid worked out of the box so was a winner for me.
Android Revolution
I use android revolution. I am a rather novice user, dont know all the ins and outs of Android (or Linux) and i think ARHD is pretty easy and stil you benefit from being rooted and having some more control...
That said the only other ROMS i tried are Revolver and RCMix, but i liked ARHD better because of the Sensation XE "unlock"...
Please tell me if the android revolution really makes an 1.5 gh procesor.....because i can't see how it does it.......it doesn't make sense.........it use less ram then the stock one?
Wich rom use less ram than the stock one??

Apparrently the sensation processor was underclocked, so most of the custom ROMS simply remove that underclocking. Regarding using less RAM, that is due to the ROM developers removing some pre-installed apps and services that consume memory.

All info is right here. You WILL find out answers quicker if you just read through guides than if you'll wait for someone to reply. In case of any problem, probably someone already had it and solution is found = search. In (unlikely) case of a unique problem, you'll have all people on this forum trying to help you. Good luck in learning.

1st is wrong, 2nd is partially right.
CPU is clocked at whatever speed by using CUSTOM KERNEL, it has nothing to do with rom.
RAM is normally freed by more aggressive task killer, sense prioritizing (major) + some apps removal (minor).
Again, all info is here, just spend an hour or two looking into it, will save you a lot of time down the line
Damn, tinky1, I can't believe you wrote this nonsense.
Of course Sensation has got a stock underclocked processor. You better read the Qualcomm MSM8260 whitepaper before you try to prove someone wrong.
Miui.us 11/26/11 FTW
I just have to say it. I have tried a ton of ROMS and just made my first donation to a ROM by the name of Miui. While bluetooth doesn't work for me it is still the best ROM.
My favorite things are...
Battery Indicator as a line running across the top
themes, there are just so many
battery and signal is amazing
I'd really like to see some signal strength tests for miui v sense roms, is there really that much difference between them?

????
First, if you want to stick to tech specs, then read that msm8x60 is native at 1.2-1.5, so TECHNICALLY its neither underckocked or overclocked between these frequencies.
Second, processor is not physically set to 1.2, its all on sw level.
Third, he said custom roms remove underclocking-wrong, just as I explained, its.custom KERNEL which deals.with clocks.
Fourth , before you try to prove someone wrong who is proving someone else wrong, do some thinking

I guess you don't know yourself what you're talking about
About the rom-kernel thing, I would agree with that if custom roms wouldn't overwrite kernels. So if you install a custom rom you change the clock too. Makes sense to me.
It depends what KERNEL is included with the ROM. So no, custom ROM does not under/over clock UNLESS custom KERNEL is included. So we are back to kernel being responsible for clock again.
Re your quote from another thread. Read again, carefully and take the note of word "kernel".
You seem to see what you want to see, instead of looking into post and understanding what it actually means. Re-read from my first post in this thread.

LOL, you're so stubborn
You said that it isn't true that Sensation processor is underclocked. Right? Or shall I quote you again?
brett_c wrote that custom roms remove underclocking. That's correct, because if we compare 1,2Ghz to 1,5Ghz it's clearly that technically speaking one speed is underclocked to another.
Another thing is that you wrote that CPU speed has nothing to do with a rom. That's not true, because we use cpu controllers to adjust the governors and frequencies. I could cook you a rom that runs at 500Mhz max without changing the kernel. So it's not only a damn kernel thing.
Ok, whatever. You seem to expand into too many things here.
As I said, nevermind.
There are too many IFs here to explain without going into it too deep.
I was only pointing out that processor=CPU=hardware is not physically underclocked on OG Sensationcompared to XE. It is downclocked using kernel.
Peace.

For about a few weeks now my phone keeps shutting down in my pocket. It started doing while on miui gb, this rom had always been stable for me until the last 2 updates. I have recently flashed miui v4 and that was terrible, it shutdown 4-5 times in an hour. So now I have flashed aokp build 34 and I love this rom. But again this has shutdown in my pocket, only once so far though. Now could this be a software problem or hardware problem?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My immediate thought from reading other threads over the months...
What are your undervoltage settings? Even the default settings in all ROMs tend to affect certain people different due to minor variances in hardware tolerances. It may be worth changing the UV to +25, +50 and try to tweak until it becomes more stable.
I've never under volt as tried it once and phone just wouldn't work, so you could be onto something. Maybe my phone is overly sensitive to voltages. I'll try it and post back here how it goes.
How will it affect battery life?
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
I've been lucky that my phone seems to have been mostly happy with all ROMs at default, although I did add a +25 to Reaper after two random reboots in a week.
The battery changes from a minor change like that should be, well, minor. Still a lot better than saving battery by having the phone shut itself down
Your case strongly reminds me of the 'death pressure point's which I experience on my phone back in September.
(See my thread) I suffered the same issues as you for a month - blamed it on the phone not waking from sleep, but it turned put my battery was faulty, and not connecting properly.
Try applying some light pressure to the back of the phone, and see whether it will automatically turn off?

Nope doesn't turn off. But I did read something like that a while back somewhere. It sort of makes a bit of sense as it only happens in my pocket I could leave it on the side all day and its fine.
How did you fix it was it the old 'pack it out with some paper' job. I remember doing that to a phone that had buttons, can you believe it a phone that had buttons!!!

But.......
I did place a couple of folded rizlas between battery and clip and it hasn't shutdown since. Maybe after all the farting about removing battery and sim has took its toll on the clip. Anyway I'm happy running blind ice m5 with nearly no problems now.

I dont know if it's just me but i noticed that those stuff happen a LOT more on ICS roms.
(although did have this in older versions of Reaper,
Endymion, Virtuous and especially RunnyDroid, never happened on sense 3.0 roms)
also:
* OverVolting helps
* Overclocking helps
* Tiamat kernel makes it WORSE ( at least for CM9 & MIUI v4)
Try This
I had the same problem and i used to put a little piece of paper behind the battery
and i worked for me..
I was really curious when it started reboots and freezes on reaper. Never suffered from that before. on endymion I could even undervolt by -100.
On reaper I have to overvolt by 25 to be stable. Really strange

I'm a bit unimpressed with this phone, (Sensation XE) Sense crashes often when you press the home button and goes through the process of re springing etc, If I hold the phone at the bottom cell signal disappears, if I hold it at the top wifi disappears, battery life is poor, it struggles to last a day and in general use for a phone with 1.5ghz dual core process and 768mb ram it feels sluggish for some reason, RAM is also almost full all the time even when I kill everything. I get the impression is can't handle sense 3.6, My old Desire felt much quicker, and the SGS2 blows this out of the water. I am not rooted or anything at the moment, just running ICS and 3.6, It shipped with ICS so don't know what GB was like on this device. In quadrant I can't even get 2000, most I have seen is 1900, my SGS2 gets 3200+
Would a rom make this phone better or is eBay the best option.
Fot real. Stock ICS is pretty rubbish. Stick an Anker innit and load up ARHD. If u get rid of Sense it will free up RAM. ARHD also have pption when installing to keep Launcher in Memory if RAM is maxed out.
Load up Faux, SebastianFM or, my fav, Bricked kernel to get optimized CPU processing.
This should make ur phone twice better.
Beamed from my Senny..
Stock can be a nightmare sometimes. Let it be known a few things though:
1) A new rom won't help your reception issues. Sorry
2) Quadrant scores do not reflect real-world performance and should be ignored. My Senny's faster than my friend's GNex (AOKP) and my other friend's SGSII (Stock) but the quadrant scores say otherwise.
3) The Sense launcher dying thing is always fixed when installing a custom rom. It comes from carriers (and HTC) bloating up the OS too much and the launcher being killed to keep room for applications open. Most custom roms will force the launcher in the memory, circumventing the issue.
That being said, "root it, flash it, enjoy it".
Yes! My crashing stopped never to return again after I rooted s off and installed custom rom. I am totally convinced that custom Roms can be far more stable than stock Roms! Never have I once had the restarting issue on custom rom. You will see the difference immediately.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
i couldn't go back to sense.
I'm going to be the one to go against the grain here...
If you don't like a device to begin with then I don't think a new rom will make you love it. You may find it tolerable, but in the end you will most likely be dissapointed overall.
You're best off finding a device that you really like, and then improving upon it...
Grogg is likely correct, if you don't like it now, you'll probably still be unhappy with whatever you do to it. Best to sell it and get something that makes You happy. Everyone is different with different opinions and tastes . As for me, I LOVE my device and truly enjoy modifying it in different ways. I'm very interested in this kind of thing but others might see that differently.so yes It's best just to find something you like. Good luck and hope you find something your happy with!

Ok thought I would update this, I spent the weekend making it S-OFF and installing ORDroid 9.
The phone still feels like its struggling, Quadrant only shows slightly over 2000, the Desire HD gets higher and its single core.
WiFi reception now seems a bit better, but cell reception is still very poor, No signal most of the time at home, most other phones I've had give 2 bars min.
And battery life is still shockingly bad, 10% per hour in stand by, and in 10 mins setting it up etc I lost 10%.
Not sure what to try now, I think Sense 3.6/4 may be a factor here. The phone struggles with it.

Don't know what Kernel I have, I didn't change anything so just whatever came with Ordroid as standard
During installation we had choices on the Aroma installer also it asked what your goal is like performance, battery saver, ext.next time during install pay close attention to what Aroma is asking you because. It gives the ability to under or over clock ext. I just used default but I choose "bad ass " bricked kernel
Aroma gives lots of options during install and you can focus on performance if you like. Hope this helps out. If you want to reinstall you can really look at the options closely and change it to help the performance. Best of luck! Have a great day!

While OrDroid is a good and stable rom, it's not exactly the epitome of speed, no Sense 4 rom is. I recommend AOSP/CM9/AOKP if you're looking for speed.
According to the OP, the torch is supposed to be a working feature. However, I have not been able to get mine to work at all. Was just curious if this was an oversight or something I should correct on my device?
Additionally, I would like to know what a safe and stable OC speed would be for my Inspire 4G.... I'm a bit of a speed-freak but do not want to jeopardise anything.

Are you sure your camera LED's are in good working condition? Speed wise, you can overclock it to almost anything you want. If it is overclocked too much, your phone will just freeze and you might have to format everything to ROM default to get out of it. I think you can go up to 1.2 if I remember correct. I always underclock my ROM so that it saves on battery.
EDIT: I found out that it is an issue with the ROM, follow this thread in DHD, you might need a different kernel.
