Update. seems like it was from an external source that burned the phone. original user said it was his friend who thought microwaving a wet phone would be a good idea

I realy wish people would not speak about the S in this forum anymore.
This is HTC One X forum, let it burn.

There is nothing to indicate the sun was involved. If I had to guess I'd say the dock he used in conjunction with his DC power outlet malfunctioned and overloaded the phone with current. Of course it doesn't say the dock was connected to power either but that scenario is much more likely taking into account the type of damage.

I'm super curious as to how this could've happened. Perhaps Ford Focus cars and SGS3s have a tendency to repel each other?

DC power from the car. The article doesn't specify whether it was plugged in or even if it was parked (or did I overlook something?), just saying it could have been a rogue car charger. Hell it may have just been what you think and the SIII gets way to hot, but there are too many variables left unanswered to make a definitive assessment.
Edit: I see where he says it wasn't charging now. Who knows man. Weird place for it to overheat though.

[PROOF OF CONCEPT] DIY Home Dock

Threw this together with a little bit of planning at work. The picture below is just a proof of concept that the measurements work out. I'm going to head to my father's tonight in order to make one out of some materials he has about, probably aluminum. I'll post pics as soon as I get the final working product.

Or you could start a company and sell them..lol

You might want to add a "stop" on the right hand side to allow for easy docking.

If I may ask/suggest why you are using screws in the construct? Try to use wood glue or wooden dowels to avoid the screws getting in your way later.
OR is that the workbench with a screw?

@deliriousdroid: That looks nice, what kind of wood is it? Is it designed to work in both portrait and landscape mode?
I've got the ~$20 plastic dock that has the built-in spare battery charger in the back, but today, in my office, I had my car setup (Arkon) on my desk using the bean bag/friction mount. I really liked the fact that I could flip it from portrait to landscape, and adjust the angle, etc. I may have to try and combine the two...

On my next dock, I am planning on buying a cable specifically for the project and in the side of the dock, have another strip of wood, make a hole the right size and glue it in. Currently I am just plugging my phone in for the night, hitting a app that keeps my screen on and leaving it on my home screen.
By the way, do you think there would be any demand for high end custom made phone docks?

If this is true, sweet. I know that this doesn't replace the OEM battery but instead will plug into the USB Port instead. Or atleast I think. I know the mophey juice packs for iPhone work this way because its to hard to replace the battery and omg did it do wonders for that phone.

It probably will in all honesty, but the great thing about it is, with this using the USB port to attach with, it will mean that removal will not cause your phone to shut off. If I remember correctly the EVO extended battery replaces the OEM battery and it hurt the GPS. So if you want to use GPS and the battery kills ur signal, pop it off and put it back on when you get there

Well to be honest, I just paid $600 for this phone, so if HTC can't design a [email protected] sticker that contains the serial # to stay on the phone for more than a couple of days of very light use, then they aren't worth my time anymore and I'll just move on to another phone once it's released

I really don't think HTC designed that sticker to stay on there, considering every ad for the One X shows the phone sans sticker. Just peel it off, it looks better without it anyway. Our HTC phones in Australai come with the sticker sitting in the box, NOT on the phone.

What's the hottest your phone has ever been?

My SC-05D just hit 51C and I think I burned the tip of my finger a little. I can still feel it.
51C is 123.8F by the way.
I wonder if there's any danger in breaking these things at such temperatures?

I did a search before I posted this and over 80 different threads came up with "How hot does your phone get" but none of them seemed to have a poll... So I started this one.

I also have a Galaxy S3 and mine gets pretty hot. Google3D maps plus GPS keeps it at an almost constant 46°C
46°C is about when I start getting concerned and the feeling is eye-wideningly uncomfortable.
Turn on GPS, WiFi, and play this to level 3 and then take a look at the Battery Mix temperature log.
racecondition in a rom plowed through battery...
Yep, that's hottening indeed.
Full battery to empty in 20 minutes. It happened more or less 30% when moving out of coverage of wifi.
Logs where filling in crazy speed with something in the lines of "couldn't set country...".
So 55C yeah... Easy.
Wow...

I'm hardly an engineer, but the specs say the DT-900 is only 300ma. Maybe that's causing the problem with the N4.
I tired both the Nokia puck and the JBL speakers in a Verizon store. Both had the infamous charging/not charging problem.

I've seen it mentioned that the reliability of the charging depends on whether NFC is turned on or off. Think it was mentioned by someone on Engadget. Not sure how that would affect the Qi charging, but worth a shot I suppose.

Love how " Droidz" disappeared when asked to take a pic/video as proof since everyone else had experienced the disconnect/connect issue... So I call bull until he provides proof. Don't waste you time or cash until he does.

Guys, it very may work for Droidz, if you read The Verge's report you will notice that the charging issue seems to not affect ALL Nexus 4's, read below is an excerpt from The Verge's article
""The Nexus 4 and the Nokia DT-900 are supposed to properly work together," says Menno Treffers, chairman of the Wireless Power Consortium. Indeed, not everyone is having trouble pairing the Nexus 4 to the DT-900: Engadget reported success, for instance. But a single bad experience instills doubt in a standard that needs as much traction as it can get early on in the game."
