Hi,
This is a member of the Viber R&D team.
Viber also syncs your phone contacts automatically.
To call a Viber user you will have to go to your Viber app and choose the contact you wish to dial to.
If your contacts are not synced with Viber please uninstall/reinstall Viber to try again. Also, please try version 2.2 that should be release in the next few days and let us know if the issue has been solved.
Thanks,
Viber team

Viber does not yet sync with sense contacts. Dunno why... Any beta version that does it? I don't mind testing it...

What version are you on?
And I'm not convinced we're talking about the same thing, which is my bad. I now saw I used the term 'sync' while I mental 'link'. Linking contacts from Sense with Google, linkedin, Skype, Facebook etc works. And prior to ics it also worked with Viber, but not anymore...

All,
Currently, on ICS (Android 4.x), Viber still does not integrate with the native contact list (which is what you referred to as "linking" the contacts).
This issue should hopefully be fully resolved in the upcoming version 2.2, released within the next couple of weeks.
Once available, we would love to get your feedback in order to assure that it's indeed working fine
For more questions, please feel free to contact me,

Still not integrating contacts like skype or facebook. Viber was good when I was using my sensation with sense3 at that time it was intigrating all contacts. But now its not with sense 3.6 or with sense 4

Which contacts are you referring to?
You mean that it's not integrating with your native contact list? Meaning, you cannot make Viber calls by choosing contacts in the native phone contact list?

I know I can not call viber contact from native contact. When I was using sense 3 before after installing viber it used to show me matching contact where I can link my native contact with viber same like Skype and Facebook. Now after changing to sense 3.5 or 3.6 I cannot add viber as account and its not synchronizing with my native contacts so can't link with native contacts.

I'm missing this feature since ICS upgrade. While Facebook, linkedin, Skype and many others are able to 'link's and merge contacts from different sources, viber does not.
As said, its like that ever since the ics upgrade. Close to a year

Generally, please note that at this stage we don't officially support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there. We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile - you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue.

I believe that a custom rom has nothing to do with the problem of Linking Contacts - I've tried stock ICS, ARHD 6.7.1 - both do not allow me to link viber contacts with the contact list...
I believe you've mentioned some 2 weeks ago that this issue might be resolved in the 2.2 release - which I have. Am I doing something wrong? should I set some flag in the settings that I've missed?

@Raven2k -
As far as we know, HTC Sensation does not have an official ICS update. So essentially it is a Custom ROM (or you're talking about a different device here?)
We have received reports from users with official ICS (Nexus users, mostly) that the problem has been fixed.

Uhm... are you kidding?!
HTC not only released ICS for HTC Sensation (regular, XE & 4G) in Q1 2012, it also released its official kernel source.
And I'm talking about official OTA updates - my wife's Sensation is pure stock (never been rooted or anything) and it's on ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6, Firmware version 3.32.707.10. Kernel is 3.0.16 from 9-MAR-2012.
Get you facts right mate
We really like Viber and we wish to use it the way we think it was meant to Linking contacts is a MAJOR thing for me, and I have a feeling I'm not alone in this...
EDIT: Thank god I took her phone to check it's exact version, downloading OTA update to FW 3.33 now... (Sure no major differences other than Radio and Ril and such, but still, better be on the most up to date FW)
EDIT2: From HTC servers for our beloved HTC Sensation: http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_PYRAMID_I...1.50.401.1_release_252072fll6erqo75dsziua.zip
I just couldn't find the right link for the 3.33 (latest) version, but that's online for some time now...

Really then why I got HTC software update for sensation ICS 4 months ago?
As a software developer if you don't know that HTC got ics than its shame. Now I can't complain about why viber is not working because even you don't know ics is out for sensation long time ago.

@Raven2k and @jasminthoria -
Excuse my confusion - I thought you were referring to a different HTC phone! You can even see that previously on this same thread we were acknowledging the fact that it is running ICS, and we even commented about it twice
Anyway - yes, Viber should integrate normally with your native contact list, and if this isn't the case even on our new 2.2.1 version, then I invite you to take a minute and report this issue to our Support Team at: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0
In your ticket, please make sure to mention that ICS is an official ROM for your device. They will look into it and hopefully be able to find the source of the problem.

[Q] Koush-ROM Contact-List

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this Forum, and first of all, i want to apologize for my very bad English!
I'm using the new Alpha12 from KOUSH on my I9020 (works fine till now)
Now the question: I have to add a sort of predial number to my contacts to separate between company calls and private calls like:
Usual: 0044 xxxxxxx or +44 xxxxxxx
ME: 980044 xxxxxxx
The problem is now, that if i get a call or a SMS the format with +44 xxxxxx is shown up, and that causes, that the number is not linked to my contact!
Is there a way to fix it?
cheers

[Q] How to solve WhatsApp and Viber issues in ICS & Sense 3.6

Hi 2 all.
I've updated to ICS & Sense 3.6 yesterday. Not rooted or something, regular OTA update.
Well, I'm very very happy how my Sensation is working now, and really, there are no downsides as far as I can see.
But, I have 2 stupid issues with WhatsApp and Viber.
Before, on Sense 3.0 and GB in WhatsApp and in Viber I would see all the pictures from my contacts that uses those apps. Majority of contacts are linked to FB, and also their pictures, and that is working now generally, but in Viber and WhatsApp I dont see pictures from contacts that are FB linked.
Other contacts, that have contact picture, but not FB profile are shown normaly in Viber and WhatsApp?!
Second thing is that in Accounts & Sync when I go to Add Account I see Viber, but when I click on it it just opens Viber, and it is not added in Accounts & Sync.
Does anybody else have similar issues, and has anybody solved those?
Thnx.
I use viber but not whatsapp so this is a partial answer only.
I have the same issues as you mention with Viber. I contacted their support team through xda, and they are working on a solution. Apparently there are issues with how viber uses the android api, things went differently with GB and they are adapting them to ICS.
I must add that viber over both 3g and wifi sound good with the latest version to date.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
I fully agree, Viber is working great regarding calls over 3G/WiFi.
I hope they will fix this contacts/API issue on both apps.
Thnx man.
So do I...
I miss the sync the most

We are working these days on a major new update for Viber that will hopefully be released within several weeks.
We recommend that you try that new update and see if the problem persists there. If so, please do let me know and we'll take a closer look at it.

Hello, Thanks for the update.
On version 2.2.3.109 which is better but still no integration of Viber with the native ICS contact list. Please can you tell me if there is a timescale when this may be done.
I have an Xperia, where Skype and even Tango contacts are integrated. for me its coming to the point when you need to start getting rid of Apps you do not use often. Viber does not have the advantage of video calls but is used by a lot of friends which is the big plus point.
@DocBrum -
Unfortunately, at the moment Viber does not integrate with Android's native contact list - this is known and we're trying to solve this issue. In future versions we hope to bring back this feature, and once we have news we'll let you and our Android users know.
We are aware of the inconvenience and we apologize for it.

[Q] ASOP Contacts to replace the HTC Sense contacts

Ive been loking for the ASOP contacts/dialer to replace the HTC Sense but i couldnt find it anywhere. Anybody knows how to replace the app on an unlocked device? I find useless that the HTC contacts doenst sync to my Google account. Also it seems the HTC app merges duplicates in the phone, but no in Google.
With my old G1 i can keep all contacts syncd but not with this phone. I tried to flash Gapps 20110613 but it didnt work. I used Blue6IX_Mod02.zip and Bloater to remove as much crapware as i could but they dont touch contacts either.
Is there anyway to replace the contacts/dialer with the standard ASOP one? If not, do i need to install a GB ROM? I dont have S-OFF since this is a work phone and dont want to mess much with installing a new ROM if is not absolutely needed. Also, I really need to use the camera in Skype, but it seems it doesnt work on the ICS ROMS so i wont touch those for now.
Replacing the HTC Calendar will be nice too
Thanks a lot for your help
I'm not sure what you did, but the HTC Sense contacts most certainly sync with Google, and with Facebook and Whatsapp and Twitter. When I've reinstalled a Sense ROM, I never have to mess with my contacts, as soon as I enter my gmail info, everything starts syncing perfectly. Within 10 minutes all my contacts, my calendar, and even all my downloaded apps, are all right there on my phone.
I think you deleted something you shouldn't.
Sense has some negative points, but the contacts app is not one of them.
When I've used CM7 in the past on different phones, I've always missed the contacts app the most. I love the way it integrates with every major service, collates messages/mails/updates, and just generally kicks the butt of the regular contacts app.
It sounds like you're doing something wrong.

Thanks for the reply, I may be doing something wrong so let me describe the shortcomings I see with the Sense contacts,
1) select a contact, while you are looking at contact details change to another app, now go back to contacts...it doesnt show the contact you have selected, rather it goes to the "matched contacts suggestion" or to the full contacts list. Even if i select dismis all in matched contacts it always brings me back to that screen. If i go to dialer>contacts it goes back to the full list of contacts
2) google contacts groups - nowhere to be seen, specially favorites. Somehow the Sense contacts has its own favorites not syncd with google. With Go Contacts you can see the Google/android favorites why no with Sense contacts?
3)Dialer and contacts show messages and call log ONLY for the native services. I use only Gvoice for calls and SMS, so nobody has my Tmobile number. GVoice is completely integrated with the phone, however the dialer/contacts is not integrated with Gvoice.
4) I also have the HP Touchpad running CM9, with the standard "People" app. Thats a Google native app, with full integration with GVoice and similar layout, why can not i have that in the mytouch 4g? Why do i need to use the Sense contacts?
Im not saying the sense contacts is bad, but i want something else, namely the Google app for contacts. do i need to flash a ROM to get the problems above solved? Or do i need to change anything else on my current settings?
It sounds like you want the Google apps that come with android 4.0 (ics). Since out phone is running gingerbread, flashing those apps will get you nowhere. I'd suggest you try running one of the ICS based roms that are available.

thats plan D ... this is a work phone (so dont want to mess with ROMs, S-ON unlocked is fine since i followed HTCdev.com instructions and for what i hear people dont have any problems getting a replacement form TMobile if something goes wring). Also i need Skype/GTalk videocalls and none of the ICS roms i saw have that working. Thats why i was asking for the AOSP contacts.apk or similar. I think it should be somewhere since my old G1 with CM7 uses the google contacts app fine. But im not sure if there is an apk for 2.3.4 AND if i can just replace the Sense files or it will give me any other trouble.

[Q] Message Access Profile [MAP][JB] Bluetooth

Hi All. There are some threads on this subject on the Galaxy S III and a couple other places.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916902
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350899
I'm not a dev and perhaps if a dev is willing to open up a discussion thread on this? would be nice. I'm interested to know if this is going to be implimented in the JB project? And perhaps if it all ready has. I'm running CM10 and cannot seem to find a way to activate this in bluetooth. I've done this several times with the Iphone 4S and the 5 cause I'm a car salesman who helps folks pair their devices to the nifty new bluetooth tech in their cars. I'm a proud Andriod user. I hate to see something that the Iphone does that ours does not. Any feed back from users that have found this to work on any ROMS would be appreciated. Or perhaps is anyone know whats cooking on the grill for this. :fingers-crossed:
OK I found in the BBQlog for CM that there is a message access protocol that could be implemented in the next build.
Any of you folks out there with messaging in you car stereo? Let me know how it works for you?
Oh and bump!

I currently drive the BMW X3 F25 and have also searched multiple forums regarding some additional MAP support for the bmw office system with no luck.
I currently have a stock HTC one X with ICS on it which allows SMS support and I have tested a S3 with latest CM10 Nightly which offers no support. I am just looking for the perfect ROM which supports the email functionality as well before I go ahead and flash leaving me with less compatibility than what I currently have.
As per the bmw office compatibility it seems that the only stock android phone to support both sms and email is the HTC sensation. No idea what makes it so "special".
Any feedback regarding your latest attempts will be much appreciated!
I'm a Samsung Galaxy S3 user and I've been trying to figure this out with my 2012 Uconnect in my Dodge Durango. Still no luck. I thought the SGS3 supported this feature, there is a service running in the background called MAPSamsungService that is opened during Bluetooth connection, but the Uconnect says this phone is not supported. Frustrating to say the least.
I can confirm that MAP is not enabled on CM10 9/30 nightly. Still hoping for a dev to implement.

I just paired a galaxy SIII with firmware 4.1.2 to a 2013 subaru with Nav. and the MAP worked perfectly. In fact its the first phone you could actually send text from the stereo unit as well.

I have a bmw e90 lci (320d) with iDrive (communications installed). I have the same issue using my Galaxy Note 2. Email syncing is not supported while text messages do sync.
I'm using CM10.1 though and it has most of the stuff missing in its bluetooth stack. Music does not show track titles, no contact photos, dialer list syncing is missing, no sms messages either...sucks!
I think cyanogen still has some catching up to do with bluetooth. Touchwiz seems to have it down. 4.1 or higher.

Thanks for clarification.
On 2.3.4 even mail was working. Hope to see a solution sometime.

Hy,
"HTC sense" is the speciality here. HTC sense 4.1 and upwards (5.0 as well) supports email over bluetooth MAP but only if you use the stock mail client from HTC. The stock client allows the bluetooth stack to access its mail database, so the HTC Sense Bluetooth stack is specially designed to work with the stock email client. All other mail clients will not work with Bluetooth MAP profile.
Other manufacturers removed mail support for their bluetooth stacks map protocol. Like Samsung did with Touchwiz when google started encoding the gmail app mail database so prevent access from other apps. This prevents samsungs touchwiz to access the mail database too.
Next step for HTC would be to tackle Calendar and Tasks which should be transmitted by SyncML over bluetooth obex.
I have an HTC One with Sense 5.0 and sms and email are working perfectly with my F21 M135i
Cheers!
Well I'll jump back in here....
I have found that for the best connection possible to the Dodge Uconnect system with the Samsung Galaxy S3 is to run 4.1.2 that is completely stock. I'm getting all contacts downloaded and sms receive works (send doesn't, but that's Samsung's fault for forking the protocol). Names are still not announced with the receipt of sms messages, she always says "no number available" for sms but can seem to match them up for phone calls. I'm guessing the contact information is not getting sent from the phone to the car for sms like it is for phone calls.
I haven't tried email but I don't use their stock email client, only gmail. I doubt it would work.
