[Q] Flashed wrong clockworkmod, now phone wont boot? - General Questions and Answers

I think I may have bricked my phone. I flashed the wrong clockwordmod, with ROM manager,I accidentally hit the wrong phone type. I followed advice I found another forum,to take out the battery, boot into recovery, and then flash the correct clockworkmod. But when I went to boot into recovery,I discovered,Lo and Behold, the damn thing wont boot. I have a a Samsung Galaxy Prevail (Im sorry I couldnt find the forum for it.)
Im wondering,is there anyway at all to fix this? I would love it if there is a solution,Anything, any ideas. All are welcome, please and thank you.

You say it won't boot, does it not turn on at all?! or does it just get stuck at the android logo? if it gets stuck at the android logo you should be able to boot into fastboot, connect to the PC and flash recovery via there.

Wont turn on at all... Sorry I didnt mention that,Ive tried taking out the battery, then holding the volume up and power at the same time,no luck, just holding power, nothing,Power and home, home and camera,etc...
Nothing is turning my phone on. It wont boot at all,its just a black screen. I plugged it into the charger, same thing.

Hate to break it to you but if there is no life coming from it, not turning on into any mode, don't think there is much you can do...

I assumed as much, but I just wanted to be 100% before I gave in and bought a new phone. Thanks though.

Did you try to turn it on by USB cable? Hold Volume UP and plug in the USB cable that will be connected to your PC. If not, try other combinations, like Volume DOWN, HOME and POWER.

No,I hadnt tried the USB cable method actually. Sadly,it didnt work. I have been trying the other button-combinations,nothing. My phone wont even light up when i put it on the charger,it just stays on the same black screen. I havent seen anything but the black screen since I originally removed the battery to install a new clockworkmod.

I've had a similar situation happen to me. You probably mucked up your android OS badly. And for those who don't know, without a proper android OS on your phone, the device can not charge from a standard wall charger or something like this. I've seen people tear a USB cable down and manually charge it like that.
You're battery was probably close to death, and if it wasn't, then something happened that drained it quickly. So try stripping a USB cable and then try turning it on.

I had an issue with my Sensation going back a few months, I was restoring it to stock, when the phone crashed (plenty of battery), and since then the screen does not display anything.
I did some fairly in depth investigation into it, and it turned out that it's a hardware rom issue, and apparently it is something that is repairable by HTC. I would assume Samsung would be the same. But, tbh I'm not sure how Samsung would respond and if they would be able to assist you...
Sorry for your loss!

Its usually pretty tough to reallyyy brick a phone. Similar to a zombie, however I do not recommend shooting or taking a chainsaw to your phone.
Try this take the galaxy plug it in usb into a computer.

Download the jar file. Install when it asks for drivers install the samsung composite run it and if it works (who knows) ull at least be booted into download mode.
If you've already tried it eh if not
Good luck.

[Q] Samsung Infuse 4G white screen brick. Help!!!

Hey whats up, I have messed up my Infuse and I need some serious help. I was flashing back to stock and Odin stalled so mid process I pulled the plug (stupid me).
Now all the phone does is show a white screen and nothing more, I cant get to download mode or anything. The white screen is constant, its not flashing. It wont connect to windows neither. Is the phone completely toasted or is there a chance because I have searched all over and couldn't find my particular case. Help me plea, help me plea. Nah, joking aside I need your brain power because unfortunately mine is full of air!
I can try to help

have u tried a download jig or taking the battery out and then (while holding volume down) putting the battery in? sometimes that works it worked for me when i couldnt get it into download mode
Yeah ive done the jig thing and still to no avail. I am starting to think that irt is completely finished.
I'm in the same boat now. Odin froze, unplugged cable to restart process and now have a solid white screen. PC makes a noise as if it's connected, no access to phone and unable to get into download mode. Please help.
Guys I would suggest to try different factors and experiment.
:thumbup:Try a different USB Cable.
:thumbup:A different USB port.
:thumbup:A different computer/PC perhaps.
:thumbup:Also make sure u reboot the computer you just freshly installed the up-to-date Kies drivers.

[Q] Infuse bootloop

Im trying to explain everything to prevent unneeded questions
I have viewed several threads about this but absolutely none with an answer. My Samsung Infuse 4g with at&t (nonrooted) is in a bootloop. The cause of this was my every-other-day reboot. Once I turned it back on it goes to the samsung screen for about 5 secs, then goes black, then says samsung again and so on repeatedly. I pull the battery and as soon as it makes contact back with the phone it turns on by itself into the same Samsung screen over and over. When plugged into wall or computer it will show the charge screen where there is no battery life left, then it will flash and start up the charge screen again and so on just like the samsung screen. I cannot go into download mode (the buttons, at this point, do nothing. No response)
I have tried taking the battery out and plugging in usb cable to computer, then holding both volumes and putting battery in=charging loop
↑ with volume up=charging loop
↑↑ with volume down=charging loop
computer doesnt detect it, adb cant find it, cannot go into download mode, odin cant see it, heimdall cant see it, cant actually boot into anything, cant leave battery in or else phone will restart itself the entire time, and this was caused by my (already gbread) infuse 4g doing a regular reboot (aka power button, tap power off, after phone is confirmed off take battery out, battery back in, turn on)
Recommendations at this point? on a scale from 1=noob to 10=expert im a 7 on this type of thing. Ive always heard that as long as you can boot into a picture its only soft bricked but if i was right i wouldnt be here. Any and all help would be much appreciated. If you need me to post a video I would have NO problem doing that showing everything im doing.
oh, and by I have viewed several threads about this i meant that i have only been able to find 1 thread about it and 2 links that didnt work for me but might for you

You might have already tried this way, but I've always held down both volume buttons first before plugging in the USB cord - not the other way around. You can also try different cords, different USB ports and/or different computers.
Mine was doing this the other day and it turned out to be my SD card being flaky. Maybe try taking it out and booting?

Ive tried a hp touchpad cord, an atrix cord, and the original cord. I cant really do the button combo because as soon as the battery makes contact the phone turns on. thats why i had the usb cord in first to see if it worked. ive tried every usb port and 2 different laptops, the computer wont recognize it if the phone wont go past the samsung start up screen

I've taken the card out and used a different card, nothing. Tried taking sim card out, nothing.
I should have been clearer. Leave the battery out of the process until after attaching the cord and the screen coming up.

I do, every time.
1. battery out
2. hold down volume buttons (any combo)
3. attach cord (nothing happens, no screen, nothing)
4. put battery in
Results= Charging loop

should be the same...wonder if you battery needs to be charged first, it should be fully charged at best...to do any flash/Odin/one click
this how I do it...basicly the same..
>take batt out
>plug in usb cable...to both phone and computer
>hold both volume buttons...NO NOT HOLD THE POWER BUTTON....
>put batt in...
and bam should see the android dude shoveling in yellow triangle...
If you get no response from the usb without the battery, and inserting the battery indicates the battery needs charging - I'd suspect the phone's usb port. Especially after trying different cords & computers.

this will/should get you into download mode
Hello.
I have the same problem... tried also everything now i gave it to cellphone shop, i hope you guys can give me answer before i am gonna waist $100
HELP?1
Help me please
I was in this state. There are two options I can think of. A JIG as mentioned previously or the Heimdall One-Click-Unbrick. The one-click unbrick did it for me and got me back to cmw and download mode, then i could flash to stock, root and flash up to ICS. It was really easy and I stopped sweating once it booted to cmw instantly after running it.
Joe
hello.
The problem is when i connect it to my computer its keep disconnecting and doing terreble noise, (windows noise) when you keep connecting and disconnecting USB cable
JIG DIDNT WORK, because the same problem.... maybe the chargging connect is broken? or has a corrosion?

Moving to Q&A
Sounds/Looks like a hardware issue...
Did it get any water damage in the past?
Hope you got warranty or still under warranty.
I am having exactly the same problem. My Infuse has never been rooted or unlocked (quite ironically, I was about to root it for the first time).
Boot loop when not plugged in, charge loop when plugged in. Absolutely no combination of buttons, inserting/removing the battery, and/or plugging/unplugging the USB has gotten it to do anything.
This has happened several times over the past few days. The first few times it sorted itself out in an hour or two. Today I couldn't get it to do anything at all.
I found several posts by people who have this problem, and it has never been conclusively solved from what I've seen. Finally one person said they fixed it by lightly smacking the phone with their hand. Lo and behold, it came on for about 5 minutes before looping again. So I smacked it again, and before it could re-loop, I factory reset it. A few hours went by and I was convinced that it was fixed.
A few minutes ago I had it plugged in to my computer via USB and was getting ready to SuperOneClick it. Then it went back into loop. I can't get it to come on this time. Again, no combination of buttons will send it into download mode. The computer can't see it. The battery is charged. The USB cable and port are fine. The software was reset earlier today. Does this mean that I have a hardware problem, or is there a software issue that could be fixable?
EDIT: So I decided to try hitting the power button, something that had never worked to this point, and the device came on. A couple minutes later it went back to boot loop. On a whim I tried download mode, which had stubbornly refused to work all day. Of course it immediately worked. Not really knowing what to try, since I'd already wiped user data, I wiped cache data and formatted the internal SD. Then I told it to reboot. Back to boot loop. A few minutes later, it came back on with the power button. Two minutes later, boot loop again. Then it restarted of its own accord. And now back to boot loop. I just don't even know anymore.
EDIT2: Just a thought... Something is weird with the power button. Whenever the phone is on and I hit power (briefly, not holding it down), it goes to the shutdown menu as though I'd held it down. A few seconds later, I'm always back in boot loop.
Infuse loop
I have found the problem. It is, in my case, the power button. I removed the case and crossed terminals with a paperclip. BAM. Booted up, and when I removed the paper clip.... back to boot loop at Samsung logo.
There is a place to send the phone. Ive see great reviews.
mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-infuse-4g-power-button-repair/
Seems like there has been a string of power button malfunctions going around lately. There are a few threads going on where people have had this issue. Sometimes its just the terminals needing to be cleaned or dust blown out.

Nothing. Happens it don't light up or power on at all. It is not reconized on computer either. It's hard bricked.
Make sure the Battery is charging...
How can I make sure the battery is charging when no lights come on at all? All I do know is I had it plugged in for a while yesterday and it got really warm. But no lights whatsoever. The screen doesn't light up at all neither does the led.
??????
There are no notification lights on the D720, but when you plug it in with a charger, you should see a battery bar on the display.
Other than that, you are probably right about hard-brick.
I, luckily, never had a "brick" on the Nexus S, so someone else with experience may wanna chime in. But Google and YouTube are your friends.
Sorry...

Please help me, i have the same problem
been awhile since any action here. saved mine with JIG method once but this time it won't work ??!(why) , in search of a solution again! -> hardbrick #2 on this device!
You guys can try a USB Jig. If that does not help, I think JTAG is what you need.
Jesus... just to revive this thread (and this concept of hard bricking), I think I just accidentally bricked mine as well.
Here's exactly what I did:
One moment, it was working spectacularly - fully stock, but unlocked. I had just listed it on eBay, too.
So I ran a factory reset on it (from the Settings menu), also "erase USB storage".
Then, after it shut down for the reboot, I pulled the battery.
...
That was it. Now it doesn't turn on for anything whatsoever. No device detected on USB when plugged into PC. Remove, replace battery, hold VolUp+Power, nothing. Plug into power adapter, nothing. Nothing at all.
But the back does get lukewarm after a minute or so, as if it's alive in the head but frozen, unable to start the bootloader.
WTF? I also have 2 more of these Nexus S 4G's, and both of them seem to have Flash storage chips that exhibit the same behavior when their chips are placed in (this) working motherboard. They can't boot. When I try to "hot-flash" it by booting the bootloader then swapping the Flash chips, they can't flash anything (this is probably to be expected). So, if I can get my ONCE-WORKING phone back to life, there's a good chance I can get another working as well (one just has a cracked glass, otherwise working mainboard & peripherals).
It's old, yes, but it's a damn shame to E-waste these things for a stupid software problem like this!

[Q] Photon Q won't boot up

Sorry if this is something that has been covered before. I searched, and searched and didn't find my exact problem. Any guidance you may have, including links to the appropriate threads is greatly appreciated.
My Q shutdown today while it was sitting in my pocket during a meeting. It was way too soon for my battery to be dead, but I tried charging it, both by USB on a computer and on a stock charger just in case. The backlight on the screen comes on for a few seconds every minute or so, regardless of whether its on hte charger or not. The screen is black otherwise. The battery is HOT, even after being off the charger for a long time. I tried soft-reset and booting into recovery with no luck. Plugging into USB on a computer that has Moto Device manager installed results in the computer alternating between recognizing and not recognizing the device every few seconds (seemingly in concert with the backlight turning on and off) but it does not recognize it long enough to load directories, etc. RSD lite will not recognize the device.
I wasn't doing anything with the phone at the time. It is rooted but not unlocked.
Any ideas? Will I run into a warranty issue since it was rooted even though it's not unlocked?

Have you tried to force reboot (Vol down + Power button for about 7-10 secs)?
Yes. Thanks for the reply. That's what I meant by soft reset. What the issue, I figured out, was that my battery had decided to self-destruct. It didn't have enough charge to even boot the phone successfully, so it was not possible to put it into recovery mode or anything else. I took it to Sprint and they replaced it under warranty.

What i am about to say is assuming that youve also tried to get the phone into download mode with the correct button press combo without any success
if the phone is going to be recoverable by methods most normal xda users are able to physically do, then youre going to need a couple of things. First and foremost a charged battery. If the battery drained so much that it wont even boot anymore, then we wont be able to help much past that. If the battery is charged, but the phone still wont boot, then you might want to try a USB Jig. Amazon link to show you an example of a Jig. Jigs look like the end of an older style charging cable but without the actual cable part of it. They have jumpers in them shorting out 2 of the pins inside the connector which causes the phone to boot into download mode. You can make your own Jig if you cant locate one to purchase with this tutorial. That should get the phone into download mode and from there youre in a really good position to fully recover the phone to how it was before it crashed. Be prepared for the possibility that the phone is actually dead tho
