you may lose your data do to a screwed up partition table but try qksters heimdal one-click of uclb3. you just need java to run it. as long as you didn't hose the bootloaders and the usb on the phone works you will be fine. also only flash the bootloaders in the package if you aren't sure if you have gingerbread bootloaders. if you had the ota 2.3.6 update or flashed bootloaders before then you dont want to flash them again for safety sake.
if the flash fails i think there is a repartition option so try that. (you will certainly lose data at this point)

If your computer still sees your phone or you can still put it download mode then your good. Do the odin package by jscott or heimdall by qkster . they do both work great. Please read more before doing it because it might break your phone (rearly)if your doing it wrong

You need to use the Odin one click posted in the development section.
Also read the *definitive guide to bricking* sticky in general section.
I got it. Used Odin 1.3 and the "safest way to go back to stock" JF6 Secure file.
you may need a jig for either a newwer phone that will be soft bricked after using jf6, or to get download mode for a phone that loses 3-button combo with jf6. the later situation can also be resolved with adb comands.
these two situations need to be flashed twice to restore the bootloaders properly. there are some newer phones that flash fine and some older phones that dont have 3-button problems that are as simple as using odin one click.
1006 builds are the only ones that are garenteed to be safe and i dont know how many people have those. but there are many others that will be fine if the phone has been flashed with odin oneclick before without issues.
I get JIGgy with it I bricked it trying to use the 1 click Eclair restore so I had to manually use ODIN 1.3 and load a PDA file.

what we are saying is you need to do that intentionally. there are no roms out there for odin 1.3 that have both bootloaders. and if you flash one that only has sbl.bin you will not be able to fix it. you need to use oneclick for the bootloaders then 1.3 to fix it. just to be perfectly clear.
good that you are familiar with the process

[Q] List of Heimdall-compatible Firmware Packages for SGS4G?

I have to use Heimdall if I'm to flash my phone. At home I only have access to Mac. I used a PC at work to root my phone (superoneclick was waaay easy), but I don't want to push my luck with IT and my boss at work.
Is there a list of Heimdall packages for the SGS4G anywhere? I've been searching and can't find them anywhere. Maybe Heimdall 1.3 is too new??
I am hoping to use Audiophile because it just chaps my a$$ that I can't play a stock music player (TMOUS) without it skipping out (paucity of cpu cycles I imagine). I very much appreciate the post RaverX3X put up about Audiophile recently. However he focused on Odin and I can't use Odin.
Any ideas anyone?
No one has made any firmware packages for it.
You'd only use Heimdall for flashing a stock rom base with a custom kernel and then you'd have to flash audiophile through CWM anyway.
I'd make a firmware package for you if I wasn't on my way out soon though. Maybe if no one else has done it when I get back I'll set something up for you.
Alright I made the heimdall package for you, I haven't tested it though, so proceed at your own risk.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tea..._kh2_with_kg4_kernel_heimdall.tar.gz/download
Did it work? I want to know so I can post it on the original thread.
You gave some qualifications about using CWM before putting up the Heimdall package. Since this is my first time flashing and I only have my SGS4G so I am going slowly. I got CWM installed and backed up. I downloaded your file and have it on my Mac. Before I try to use, I want to be sure I know what I'm doing. So I'm reading a lot of XDA first.
You will be the second to know I got it installed and working (with me being the first obviously. )
Thanks for the help.
You actually don't need CWM at all. You'll wind up with CWM after flashing this.
Okay, I'll give this one a try. In a previous message you said that after using Heimdall, I still need to flash Audiophile using CWM. Is that still true? Is there any other software I need to flash with CWM?
You might need to flash my busybox_installer.zip but I think Raver may have included that in the audiophile ftw installer.
Well I tried but Heimdall could never see my phone. I can connect USB storage using the phone, but Heimdall can't detect the device at all.
I've searched XDA trying to find MAC drivers for the phone that might be better than mine, but I've not found anything yet.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Scroll down and find the OSX version (Heimdall suite 1.3.0). It comes with Codeless kext (aka driver). It should install libusb for you.
Hmmm, I installed that package. I do not know why kext didn't work. I know I have a system reboot since then.
Maybe I'll uninstall and try to re-install.
Thanks A Lot

Awesome, I'm glad it worked for you. I'll be making the Froyo portion of the heimdall package available soon in order to update my GB Starter Pack guide for mac/linux.
How straightforward was the install by the way? I'm still trying to get feedback from users.
I am very happy heimdall is working for you and you got the ROM flashed.
Very frustrated that I can't get heimdall to see my phone. I have CWM installed and I have the RootExplorer app working and I can see my SD card as a USB drive on my Mac. Is it possible to flash with just those three tools?
All the guides I see seem to focus on Odin or Heimdall. Do they do some magic that I can't accomplish on my own?

Sadly there's no safe way to flash bootloaders using CWM, which is the only reason we're using Odin/Heimdall. I can't diagnose the problems on a mac since I don't own one, but have you tried removing heimdall, restarting, reinstalling, restarting and trying again? Might make it work.
Thanks A Lot

[Q] my Samsung infuse phone isnt working right and i dont now what to do...

I first got problems when I put on Gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM. I then restored it to FROYO. Then i wanted to put on Infused v2.2.3 by gtg465x (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088) again but i then realized as i was installing zip from recovery i didn't have enough memory on my phone so it boot loaded. I used odin3 and tried to restore my phone back to original firmware and tried the odin3s listed on xda and all them arnt working on my phone correctly. It boots up and after the boot-screen the screen goes back and the buttons light up. I have been able to get it to recovery but I tried restoring it and installing zips and the same thing has happened. I dont know what to do and how to fix this problem. Can someone please help me fix this problem?

Odin3 v1.70
the check marked boxes are Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time.

If you aren't using a pit file make sure the repartition box is unchecked
you also might want to try a newer version of odin

Even though you are trying to flash back to stock, you should still have the update.zip for clockwork recovery on your internal sd card.... Try going into recovery, find "format system" do that then go to "reboot to download" then try flashing a rom with odin again.... Seems like you have some corruption of system files, formatting system has worked for me when I think I've really f'd up....

I just used Odin v1.81 and yes it had a pit. I tried it again and still same problem. I also just formatted my system threw recovery and put gtg465x stock ROM back on and still same problem. The buttons light up. They dont thing when I press them.
Going to try uploading a video of my phone soon.

Put your phone into download mode and Use gtgs ultimate unbrick. Make sure you use all the included files (pit, phone and pda).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
Once you do that do factory reset from INSIDE the settings page in the ROM, not from recovery. After this you can re-root, install mod3e and cwm, and install custom rom again.

Try this. Flash UCKH1 leak which is froyo, it contains a bootloader update. Report back and let us know if the phone boots.

you can factory reset with "odin one-click". this is not available for the infuse but has been leaked for he captivate and maybe other phones. if you use the captivate oneclick odin you can use the "master clear" function when the phone is on, not in download mode. DO NOT ATEMPT TO FLASH WITH ONE CLICK ODIN. ONLY USE THE MASTER CLEAR FUNCTION.

its an open source alternative to odin. search Google. I prefer heimdall 1.1. the ui is self explainitory. 1.3 is more flexible and has the option to use heimdall specific packages with partition information and device compatibility checking.
you will need to extract the .tar from the unbrick. 7zip is good for that.
read the website for other needed software. it needs Samsung drivers and I think it needs .net framework 4 and something else. not sure. I don't use it in windows. I use it in linux
heimdall doesn't let you repartition without bootloaders for safety reasons. you might have better luck in odin with repartition selected. but heimdall is something else to try and isn't as spastic.
oh is win7 32bit or 64. 32bit version is more cooperative with Samsung drivers.

Weirdest thing I've ever seen in my Android life. Help!

OK I'm in front of the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my Android life. Turns out I got my Infuse 4G and turn it back to stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6 using Heimdall One-click Back-To-Stock UCLB3, and in the middle of process it seems my USB port disconnected my phone and I though I would see a brick, but thank God it was not that bad (I thought). I change the USB port and put my Infuse in download mode again, passed the tool again and everything went like heaven (again: I thought). I got my stock AT&T Gingerbread 2.3.6, but I never seen CWM anymore, I just can't because the weirdest screen I've ever seen (you'll see).
I thought my phone was unrooted, so I maded my way straight to SuperOneClick v2.3.3 and begin the simplest process. Well... it was unable to root my phone and believe me, it's not ADB problems, I know it because I can install apps through Android Commander without any problem... so that's the first weird thing I have here.
Until that moment I thought my phone was bad-flashed or something, so I tried with another tool, the mythic Odin with h8rift's [UCKD5] Odin - Stock (Root+3e) and with my device in download mode it never shown itself as COM## on Odin (required to start the process), however I clicked on PDA button, selected the .tar.md5 file and start the process that never started (logically).
So right now I have no idea what to do or where to go.
I'm apologize if I explain every little detail, the thing is that most of the time one get answers starting with "You did this?" "Have you tried that?" I all I want is to avoid that. For example, I have USB debugging, ok? Another thing someone could ask.
Please help me guys. I madded a video so you can see what happens when I try to enter CWM. Even when my phone starts, during AT&T logo screen flashes with a strange distortion. I madded this video and post it to YouTube so you can see what is hard for me to explain.
Please HELP!
I need anything that from scratch clean everything and put my phone shiny.
Best regards.
You have "rainbows" because you don't have Gingerbread bootloaders.
You need to use odin a GB leak or Heimdall a GB leak to correct the problem.
Your initial failed flash on heimdall was due to a bad connection -usb data cord or computer usb port.

If reading right, you are on uclb3 now. Soc can't root that. I don't think anything can. You have to load another kernel. Like qkster said see his sig. I used both uclb3 packages two night ago. Both work.

from froyo with recovery, you can flash any rom. bypassing the bootloader.
a lot of people do this w/o prob until they run into recovery issue.
i'm not sure re: the exact architecture why this occurs.
the kernel gurus can tell you more.
if you use odin, and install one the gb leaks, you will have that BL, until you do a repartition with gtg's ultimate unbrick which brings you back to froyo. I think you will lose the bl's.
In good practice, I use the 1click heimdall w/ repartition - these are packaged with "official" GB leaks. imho, i believe they are better suited for a base to get to your custom GB rom.
if you're running infused 1.6, there is no needed 'cause it's froyo.
no rainbows there
edit: to each his/her own i guess. the reason why gtg's "unbrick" seems like a life saver is due to repartition with PIT files image.
the heimdall 1 click does the same thing but takes the guess work out from the inexperience user.

[Q] Infuse 4g - Broken CWM - ICS 4.0.4 Infinitum Rom

Hello, I am a long-time viewer of xda but a new member, this is my first post.
(and yes, i looked for a similar theard. i could not find one.)
So, onto the problem.
I flashed Infinitum 1.1.1 to my Infuse using cwm recovery. I noticed problems right off the bat when after i had installed the zip, i rebooted into recovery then it got stuck on the samsung logo and i had to pull the battery (a normal event when flashing this rom) So when i pulled the battery and booted into recovery to try again, the cwm recovery was terribly screwed up. The top half of the screen was pixelated, and the navigation menu was off center. I was still able to use cwm to flash the rom successfully, But cwm remains srewed up.
So i tried to reflash cwm recovery using rom manager. but when i rebooted i was stuck in a recovery boot-loop that i had to get out of using odin.
I then flashed the rom again using the same procedure suggested by its developer, and it worked, but cwm is still acting as it was before. (the pixelated top half of the screen and the off center navigation menu. )
So can i get some help? i thought about removing cwm the using some other recovery. I also heard that cwm wont work on ics, but im unsure what it is.
Thanks in advance.
You don't have Gingerbread bootloaders. That's why recovery looks the way it does.
You need to Odin or Heimdall back to Gingerbread stock (I find Heimdall much easier for this) and then flash Entropy's DD kernel to get back into red recovery to flash Infinitum.

Yeah, ICS recovery doesn't play nice with Froyo bootloaders.
AFAIK, there is no way to get Gingerbread bootloaders without reverting to stock. With Heimdall it's an incredibly simple, and quick process. I just had to do it myself a couple nights ago

Just follow all the instructions for Heimdall to a T (there aren't many) and everything will be fine
Yeah...heimdal is the best way to get bootloaders...odin doesnt always do it and no custom rom includes them that i am aware of...
I had written detailed instructions for another person...ill try and find them and paste it here...
Also-dont use rom manager, that thing is known to cause bricks/bootloops so using it is asking for bad ju-ju lol

Have you tried flashing boot loaders?
Here is how to do it...
1) Download uclb3 heimdal by qckster
2) open the program
3) put phone in download mode
4) click flash (leave program open when finished DO NOT CLOSE)
5) after it finishes and your phone reboots, put the phone back in download mode and reconnect to PC
6) click flash bootloader on the heimdal program you left running
7) flash, let reboot and your problems should be gone
Download mode instructions
1) pull battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up + down
4) connect phone to PC with USB cable *don't let go of volume*
Just because you were on gingerbread previously does nit mean you have ginger bread boot loaders...I had ginger bread since the first leaks and did not have boot loaders until a month or two ago when I flashed them using those steps above...
Good luck!

Thank you for posting the guide. I literally just got done flashing GB bootloaders to my Infuse because of the rainbow Recovery when I'm on ICS. I used Odin though and used GB loader that a member posted in the AOKP Uniporn thread. I was scared but there really isn't anything to be afraid of. I tried using Heimdall but dang that was nerve racking because I was trying to use it on Mac and it wouldn't let me do the flash.

Good deal, glad you got it sorted out. And to clear up some confusion that is in this thread: you don't have to flash an entire Gingerbread rom to get the bootloaders. We all have our preferred ways of doing it, but you CAN flash just the bootloaders.
Here is both a Heimdall and an Odin way to get JUST the bootloaders. That's all that is necessary for someone who has rainbow distortion issues on an ICS or Gingerbread rom.:
See the third post (HERE) in Entropy512's Unofficial CM9 thread for instructions on how to flash just the bootloaders using the Heimdall command line. Or, see the answer to question 1.) in the FAQ of the rooted UCLB3 Odin thread which is HERE.

Heimdall is one way to get the bootloaders, and here's how I did it.:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin
The second part of your statement isn't true. Odin doesn't do it only when the user can't figure out how to use Odin.
thank you everyone.
Being a creature of habit i ended up flashing to rom and bootloaders using odin. that did indeed fix CWM right up.
GB loader

I am trying to get those GB Bootloaders. Would you be able to provide them ? or to provide the AOKP Uniport thread ?

Unfortunately I haven't had this device for over 3 years now. You'll have to do some searching for that.
