Hello all,
i wanted to cook my own oc kernel but it looks like the stock kernel is already allowing overclocking up to 1.5ghz !!
i've rooted my device and looking at the frequency tables, looks like it can go up to 1.5 (setcpu and system tuner letted me oc at these speed)
can someone confirm this ?
Yup it can go up to 1.5ghz
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Weird, mine has allowed me to set the CPU up to 1.5 but even when set to the "performance" governor I've never seen it go over 1.1 :-\
Also, the Tegra chips have been known to OC up to 1.7 and still be quite stable, so there's still room for improvement.
Custom kernels just aren't about OCing, battery life and other performance boosts can still be added in, take Franco's kernel for the HTC One X and the Galaxy Nexus for example.

Interested to see if people are really getting 1.5 or if we'll need a custom kernel.
Ive been trying to compile from ASUS's stock kernel source with no modifications just to see if I can get it to compile. I keep getting errors in compiling. Different errors every time. I know or at least should have my build environment set up right. Even looked at the TF201 build setup. Last time I built was Samsung Galaxy, so Its been a couple of years.

If you download the kernel listed in my sig, then you can flash it via Clockwork Recovery. As far as the governers, I'm not too familiar with them myself, but here is a little info about some of them. I believe Smartass is a little newer or made for specific kernels, so there doesn't seem to be much info on that one.
Pretty much trial and error and see what one works best for you. With LeeDroid's latest kernel, SetCPU lets you go as high as 1800Mhz or so, and I had it set to that as max, with 500Mhz (or whatever setting was closest to it), but just lowered my OC a bit to a little over 1000Mhz to try and get some more battery life out of it.
Okay thank you very much. Nobody got back to me last night. I had leedroid new kernel an i flashed it, and I noticed a HUGE difference in how fast it was.
When downloading new ROMS like some say data+++, aosp, an so on.... What does all that mean? I'm very new to all this but slowly catching on.
Also I don't have set CPU, you have to buy it... I have no frills CPU

Even though I've been rooting since my Captivate in August of last year, I'm still a newbie as well. All I can suggest is: Read, Read, and Read some more. That is how I learned a lot, asking questions only when I had exhausted my search- fu.
A lot of the times the answer you need has been answered by someone in some thread.
Hey How do you get more then 1ghz? My dad uses another android phone and he overclocked his to 1.8ghz and he said his method doesn't work the same. I saw somthing on kernels or somthing. Can someone point me to the right path and i need a very detailed thread... thanks. Also I am not talking about setcpu that is not overclocking that is only used for underclocking and custom speed use during specified uses. I need one that actually runs it faster
there is presently no way to overclock the SK4G.... sduvick has been working on adding overclocking to the Bali kernel tho. he might even still have one posted from a previous attempt, but I don't think it is stable.
just for kicks I tried the Tegrak Overclock app from the market, as it is made for Samsung Galaxy S devices so I thought it was worth a try.... but it said this device is not supported.

actually, i sent an email to the dev of that app. they sent me an email back early yesterday morning, i gave them some info on our phone and how similar they are to the galaxy s phones they're supporting. so a this morning i checked my email and they sent a test app and it worked perfectly. the app will allow you to overclock to 1.3GHz but only 1.2GHz is stable. They told me they will update the app in the market very soon so keep an eye out, i was gunna post a thread explaining in the general when ready. i've been running @ 1.2Ghz all day it doesnt kill battery too much either. so you guys should be able to overclock pretty soon i already saw our device name on the market for their next update, i was able to reach 2068 on quadrant with my TouchMIUIwiz ROM @ 1.152GHz, i posted pics in this post
Sduvick is also working on a Custom kernel with OC
Sorry about being a bit late to the party guys, had an xbox night with my roommates last night, I'm back to work on the kernel again today, should be able to get another working test going sometime today. Pretty sure that just adding the UV stuff will make it stable, but we'll see when it's ready.
The Tegrak update for the Sidekick is out, available in the market! Running at 1.152 Ghz now, and I see that the app allows you to raise or lower voltages as well..... VERY cool app!
Edit: setting voltages is available only with the paid version.

Running 1.2 now so nice 1400+ quadrant score with lightning rom v2 running multitask settings on v6. too bad you have to set it every time the phone boots unless you pay. 1.252 has some instability and 1.3 crashed the phone as soon as it was set :-( but still this is awesome

you can hit 1900's and 2000's with touchmiuiwiz! but yeah 1.3 doesnt play well.
I was having problems with touchmiuiwiz that I need to figure out at a later time but from what teddy has been saying he gets over 2000 ^ up there

I have cyanogenmod 7 rom installed along with leedroid kernel and one of the two has an overclock kernel, i use setcpu to overclock up to 1.7ghz. i use cpu gauge to monitor the core clocks, but no matter what i have the cpu clocked at the cpu gauge always says core 2 is offline, i have used other CPU monitoring apps also and they always say the same thing. Why is the second core not working?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
I think system tuner is the only one that's able to read second core performance. Could be wrong though. Also, isn't the LeeDROiD kernel for Sense ROMs? Why don't you put something like Bricked's AOSP kernel in there instead? Might help ya out.
Hey thanks alot, ill give it a try.I only used leedroid because it was the first one that has worked for getting rid of all the bloat. Ill try the bricked though

I have the stock 1.63.531.2 HTC kernel as well as 3 of Strapped's 1.7 OC/UV kernels (the original, plus the remix and remix2).
We should rekang the already kanged kernel for the new stock source. Maybe today ill cook one with just a kanged clock table to see how it works out

Could have just been the source at the time. I deleted it and haven't looked for it since. I guess I could search for it and redownload it.
I did end up starting over on a GB kernel though, didn't mess with the .config much this time around and gonna do it one slow compile at a time with one change to see when things go south
*edit*
Ok so from the looks of the source roman had changed 2 files when overclocking and undervolting and it was for global cpu voltages (faux code). After using the code changed in arch/arm/mach-msm/kconfig the phone bootlooped at the splash screen, but the change to arch/arm/mach-msm/acpuclock-8x60.c (faux code for 1.5Ghz oc/uv?) it boots just fine, but still at full speed no matter if setcpu is ticked to set at boot or not, and my guess is that's just is what it is, )90% of kernels boot at the speed on this device. Anyways that's what I did today trying to start as simple as using code that already works. Now back to the work week

Just from my observations, it seems there is something about a Sense ROM that causes the kernel to always boot at max speed of the kernel regardless of any settings in SetCPU or other cpu-clocking app. Only after the device is booted can you manually run SetCPU and then the desired speeds/options will take effect. I've watched it working, as soon as I boot up, I open SetCPU and just watch it... it starts out at 1.7GHz (the max on your kernel). SetCPU will then adjust it down to my desired 1.5GHz. As the phone goes through all its bootup steps (syncing, etc.), suddenly the speed will revert to 1.7GHz again. I can then reset it to 1.5 and it will remain there from then on. So, whatever it is that Sense is doing messes with the cpu clock. Non-sense ROMs don't exhibit this behavior, at least not that I've seen.

I'll be diving back into kernels soon.
My laptop is fried, but it'll run in ten/fifteen minute increments sitting on a handful of ice packs fresh from the freezer.
Once I finish migrating everything off of it to usb hdd devices I can start going through what I got.
Meantime, I'll browse through what I got moved onto my phones sdcard and throw some tips out. Been a while, but a quick review and I can throw down what you need to change for stable cpu table edits.
Don't want to steer ya wrong off the top of my head when it's been months since I've looked at it.
Definitely we need to get some stuff thrown around if a lot of old works were lost.

Hi guys i can someone tell me if can overclock?
Just tell what to do...I want to overclock it to play heavy games like mc4 and nova without much lag
I have the rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629307
-___- It's simple. Download any of apps like those for example; AnyCPU, No-Frills CPU Control and Voltage Control. But the problem is actually in GPU service; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191468 but you must have both root and CWM recovery (CWMR is to back up your firmware and user data).
EDIT: With this GPU tweak and GPU video tweaks in build.prop, Minecraft is pretty smooth.

thanks!!! i already did the gpu tweaks from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2191468
now i'm going to install the apps you said but if i change kernel won't i have better results?
but i don't know what kernel to use...
I hope i was clear i'm portuguese
Of course u need to flash a kernel that supports over clocking. And then use set cpu to tweak

Can you recommend me one ?
For the starter, if you are on the CyanogenMod 10 Jelly Beans port and its derivatives, iodak kernel for one. At full throttle, it roars by at 1.3 GHz but you may try undervolt it a bit (due to CPU heats) - mine's at 1.25 V at 1.3 GHz so go for 1.275 V for better chance.

I'm on stock gingerbread...any advices?
Ah, I see. I will look - even though the development on Gingerbread ROM have slowed down a bit.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23629242 - even though this kernel is discontinued, it's good. I used this one before I decided to ditch Gingerbread for Jelly Beans (due to better VSync service required by some games but I personally think you will do fine with Gingerbread though. And note this kernel's maximum CPU frequency support - 1.4 GHz.)
