Help with kernels and O/C coredroid 6.6 - HTC Inspire 4G

First question:
I'm using no-frills CPU to Overclock. I have HTC inspire 4g running coredroid 6.6 what would be a good starting point for my
Min. Clock freq? And my max clock freq? And also what do the freq's do? Help please trying to get the most out.
Also if someone would explain what the governers are....

Second question:
How do I properly flash a kernel. Currently using coredroid 6.6 and wanting to flash the new leedroid kerbel. What is the propper way to do so?

If you download the kernel listed in my sig, then you can flash it via Clockwork Recovery. As far as the governers, I'm not too familiar with them myself, but here is a little info about some of them. I believe Smartass is a little newer or made for specific kernels, so there doesn't seem to be much info on that one.
Pretty much trial and error and see what one works best for you. With LeeDroid's latest kernel, SetCPU lets you go as high as 1800Mhz or so, and I had it set to that as max, with 500Mhz (or whatever setting was closest to it), but just lowered my OC a bit to a little over 1000Mhz to try and get some more battery life out of it.

Okay thank you very much. Nobody got back to me last night. I had leedroid new kernel an i flashed it, and I noticed a HUGE difference in how fast it was.
When downloading new ROMS like some say data+++, aosp, an so on.... What does all that mean? I'm very new to all this but slowly catching on.
Also I don't have set CPU, you have to buy it... I have no frills CPU

Even though I've been rooting since my Captivate in August of last year, I'm still a newbie as well. All I can suggest is: Read, Read, and Read some more. That is how I learned a lot, asking questions only when I had exhausted my search- fu.
A lot of the times the answer you need has been answered by someone in some thread.

CM questions.

Well I'll start with what I think I'd think to be easy and i'm just not seeing it. OC daemon for aosp. I've seen it built in, but how to add to already installed ROM? Now another question. Even with pinky undervolt and the radio that I was recommended for the ROM blackice, I'm getting horrible better life
compared to when I had sense 3. Any idea on that? Thanks to any help someone can throw out.

For the OC Daemon, I would try searching the forums for a thread dedicated to it. If they have an installable .apk for it, you would simply download that and install like any other app. If its a system app, you would have to mount /system with say ES file explorer, copy it to /system/app and then assign the proper permissions.
My questions is if there is a way to confirm that undervolts are being applied. In the blackice thread some people were saying the included tool might not be applying them correctly. Thought id make a few posts here though so I could post in the actual thread lol.

OC/UV Beater will show you what your voltages are currently set to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207546
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're referring to the OC daemon in ARHD I think that's written for his CPU scheduler. If you're on AOSP I would recommend SetCPU
Well with the OC daemon question, I have seen people build it into cm based roms. So I was just thinking, if they can do it that way, why not in a preinstalled ROM.

Thanks for the suggestion. After I asked I found out systune included in the rom showed the values and they are being applied.
Correct if I'm wrong but setcpu will anything that ocdaemon can do. I would just use that or choose a rom with it cooked in.
Setcpu just follows governors. the OC daemon uses governors but also has set clock and governor for screen off and on, therefore, saving battery life. Also better performance.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Setcou does all that and more. You can get it for free on these forums. It has way more than screen off profile. It has batt. Temp charging. batt Level profilr and more

Setcpu has always made my battery life horrid. The oc daemon has assisted me in achieving 2 days battery life with average to heavy usage.

Cyanogenmod 7 + leedroid kernel overclock help

I have cyanogenmod 7 rom installed along with leedroid kernel and one of the two has an overclock kernel, i use setcpu to overclock up to 1.7ghz. i use cpu gauge to monitor the core clocks, but no matter what i have the cpu clocked at the cpu gauge always says core 2 is offline, i have used other CPU monitoring apps also and they always say the same thing. Why is the second core not working?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
I think system tuner is the only one that's able to read second core performance. Could be wrong though. Also, isn't the LeeDROiD kernel for Sense ROMs? Why don't you put something like Bricked's AOSP kernel in there instead? Might help ya out.
Hey thanks alot, ill give it a try.I only used leedroid because it was the first one that has worked for getting rid of all the bloat. Ill try the bricked though

[Q] New rom install

Hello i have just flashed revolution HD on here
And just wondering if i should let it be what overclock settings would be good as it has daemon config installed any way just wondering where to go from a new flash

Thread moved to Q&A. Also, I am not sure I understand your question.
Well mostly like what setting should i use too gain both decent battery life and the best preformance, androidrevolutionHD is what i just flashed and the kernal im using is 2.6.36.4-g6aa10ba [email protected] #20111023
Is there a differnt kernal i use or an app to have better control of overclocking maybe what settings are best...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Get setcpu from the market, max out the slider both way (100 min, 1500 max) and set it on either interactive or ondemand, those are good for battery savings.
You can review what the governors do here;
http://www.everythingabouttablets.net/2012/01/22/android-overclocking-governors-explained/
The TF will take 1500mhz pretty stable, I don't recall ever getting a freeze up or random reboot with my clock settings maxed out.
And see my signature for a good noob guide.

[MOD] Overclock module for the One S/XL (up to 1.9GHz)

Hello!
You probably already heard about the OC module by coolbho3000. It's really nice and most of the credits should go to him.
Last night I was checking the module's code and tweaking it, and today I want to release the changes I've made to it.
Basically, the changes are the following:
- Overclock up to 1.9GHz
- It also supports the following speeds: 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 GHz (with a voltage lower than 1300000uV)
- Code improved a little.
I've attached a ZIP file with the compiled module, a modified thermald.conf, and the source code.
Enjoy it!

How about you post instructions in the OP then?
This is good but you should add a link to original thread.
and like Reviewers said put the instructions in there
look forward to trying it
Does this Undervolt the stock cpu speeds? anyone got a module that only does just that, undervolts with no overclocks. I personally think the phone is snappy enough at the stock speeds and have no desire to overclock. but If i could undervolt it for more batt life at stock speeds i'd be all for it.
How is this working for everyone?

Does this work on all ROMs?
Works fine mostly stable, some apps force close or just don't open at the max freq.

The battery scripts in most of the custom roms out right now already include under clocking scripts, I thought. Noob here though.

underclocking and undervolting are two entirely different things. also I haven't heard of a ROM that underclocks as that would affect performance (read: speed)

And kind of unrelated, but HUGE thanks for all your work on cIOS back in the day.

Best overclock value

Hello,everyone....recently I overclock my desire s and thanks to many of you I received many useful information so I want to share impression how overclocking has improved performance and battery to help other like us to know what and how to use overclocking and governor....
So I start ....
I use Viper saga with tweaked kernel 3.x/ondemand with deadline/cpu min.245-max.1410
I noticed that my graphic is very good and everything works like a charm....for example in FIFA12 I noticed that even the shadow of all player are so intense and everything is so clear,it seems that improves my graphic and my phone is faster..I hope that overclocking to 1410 to not damaged my phone. So what configuration do you have ?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Set the governor to performance. Battery eater though. But u only can choose better battery life or smoother graphics, so make up ur mind and choose one
When playing with overclocking unstick 'set on boot'. So that it goes back to normal once reboot in case of any freeze. Overclock it based on ur desired value, experiment with it, slowly. increase the value step by step. Leave it for a day then increase again. If it freezes then u know ur phone's limit.

i have read that people say it's stable up to 1.5 GHz.
I have set mine to 1.3GHz to be on the safe side.
And set it to,on demand,so it only takes up more when it needs to.
setting it up to high speeds can result in a melt down, draining batteries and will shorten out the life of your phone even when stable for a couple of days so be aware of what your doing...
there is no best value for everyone, some say 1ghz is enough, some say 1.5 ghz is not enough.
so it depends on what you need, its a trial and error thing
u will get a fast response phone but battery life is sucs ... cant complain though
LOL? :what: how many threads must u made to ask a question? answer can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092673:D
why not just continue on your thread?

Never a good idea to overclock CPU more than 1.5 GHZ . That is the maximum stable frequency for our processor.
I use my phone at 1.2 GHZ.

What is the best application for overclock?
for example when I play a game to switch automatically to my desire frequency and governor? Now I have Cpu master but unfortunately i don't have more option for profile ....and is it possible to set frequency to 1300Mhz ?

If you want separate screen on/screen off profiles, I would recommend daemon controller app (with andrev_oc installed through the app).
If you want more profiles for different situations, setcpu is probably the only real option.
Setting to 1.3 GHz depends on the kernel you're using, not on the app.
