Hi,
I just bought HTC One X yesterday from AT&T for $199. After I went back to home, I found that the Phone Storage of my htc one x is only 9.93GB. That's TOOOOOO small for a smart phone without removable SD card availability.
Is there any problem with my phone? Or is it the way it is?
So sad now.... I even want to return my phone and change to Samsung Galaxy SIII....
10GB Storage...
Return it straight away that is way too small and must be a mistake

post in the AT&T forum. this is the international one and the international HOX comes with 32gb, not 16

That is the correct amount of storage for the att one x.
This is the wrong forum. Here we have the One X International.
You can check your "sd" card with your PC. Make checkdisk of the storage connected to your PC. Don't know if the at&t has the same issues with bad sectors. But when this is the problem, then format the drive with fat32.

Confusion....
there seems to be some confusion regarding branding.
I hate saying this, sounds like i'm bragging because i start every post like this.....
I'm in New Zealand, i have both versions of device, I started referring to them as the Quad, and the Twin... for obvious reasons.
Down here,
The OneX is the quad, in white, its 30gb, 25gb or there about available to the user...
The OneXL is the Twin, in black, I'm not sure of total storage now that i think about it, but i know i have approximately 10g available to me.
I've tested a hand full of roms over the last 10 days, all the mods that have worked for the twincore i have had to get from the AT&T forum.
If 1stpKlosr is correct that he has the AT&T version, he has the correct amount of drive space, and the correct forum too
hope that helps straighten it out.
Cheers
and you know, its not that big of a deal.....
In most cases we all have access to our PCs everyday. I personally run a FTP server, My personal cloud if you like. hundreds of gig of **** at my finger tips. others use drop-box or other such services.
That 10 gig of space you have is more than adequate, and a totally manageable size. I couldn't imagine needing much more than that on a day to day basis.
Funny thing, a guy at work showed me a full page ad in a magazine from 2004 showing a SDcard, the ad was singing its praises over having reached the considered unreachable 1gig! ... this wasn't even a microSD, it was one of those old square inch size fukernauts too. LoL...

If you note under storage, theres 2.2gb reserved for apps as 'internal' storage and 10gb available for anything else. The rest is used by the system. Its the same way with pc's. It might have a TB drive, but you'll never have that much available.
This again??? This question gets asked weekly or more. Please just do a search next time before starting new threads that have already been answered many times.

Yes, and it will happen again and again and ag... well, you get the point. Just wait until the HOX gets a price cut, then it's going to be bonkers.
what supprises me....
... is that you guys go into these deals totally blind, obviously without reading any of the specs or doing any research.... then come to the forum to complain about it.
that's classic!
I'm wondering if when we get S-off and kernel source we can free up more space and get it back maybe with repartitioning.

It's advertised as having 16 GB storage. If available storage was 14 gb I doubt there would be an issue. But wtf is htc doing with 6 gb reserved? That's more than a little misleading.

How am I going to know it is only 9GB by just doing a normal research???
The difference between 16GB and 9GB is huge. And I was aware of this version only has 16GB and had got prepared to accept it.
However, in fact, it ONLY has 9GB free to use.
My thoughts exactly.
If you want 50 gigs of cloud space head over to evo 3d general and a guy there will get you a account fo free hope that helps the deficit
Edit its a box account

I've been seeing differing stories about the size of storage that will come in the AT&T version if the XL. Haven't seen any info on AT&T's website. Anyone know the true story? It's bad enough there's no expansion.

Pretty upset myself. I understand changing the processor due to LTE compatibility, but don't see the need to decrease the storage size, especially considering there's no expansion slot. It's the one thing that's turning me off to getting it.

I'm considering getting a Vivid and seeing what's available in the fall. I have another upgrade coming up in October. If it's the same old bull**** with At$t at that time I will most likely look at TMobile.
From what I've heard, it looks like it will be 16GB. Add to the fact that the ATT version will not have Tegra 3 and I have decided to get an unlocked HTC One X as I already have 2 LTE devices. The fact that it is a quadband 3G phone wells my eyes with joy remembering the old Win-Mo days of buying the HTC TyTN and TyTn II which had 850/1900 3G built in without ATT meddling.

I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T released a 16GB AND a 32GB version a month or so from each other. Kind of like a reversed situation with the 16GB Galaxy Nexus coming to Verizon.
Actually, the One X has 32GB. The One XL only has 16GB.

We know the difference. Just like we know the One X is what's going to be in the UK, and the one XL will be the AT&T version. IF it's going to be differentiated.
And every trustworth news source I've seen so far that has posted the specs has quoted it at 16GB... keep in mind you should look for specs a day or two after it was released, since the market is flooded with confusion about which is which.
also to the dude w/ 3 phones, 2 lte... WHY do you need so many phones? share with the less fortunate.

There's still hope.... kind of.
There's still a mysterious HTC Totem/Tahiti that is yet to be revealed.
Sigh I was waiting for this phone but 16gb w/ no microSD slot is just too small and unusable for me. I guess I'll wait for Galaxy S3 =( or Skyrocket HD if it ever comes out...
Well how about this to further complicate things and **** AT&T customers off more. According to this article, the Sprint version of the One X will also come with only 16 GB of storage space, but WILL have an expansion slot. Really? What the hell happened to simplicity with one phone?
Next week I will be going to the invitation only HTC Sprint event, where we hope to see the new version of the HTC One X that Sprint has renamed the HTC EVO One.
Android Central has brought us some pre-event information regarding the changed specifications for the new version HTC One X. The HTC EVO One is different in few ways that I believe may seriously effect the performance in comparison to the HTC One X.
The same 4.7 inch, 720p Amoled screen will be on the HTC EVO One but the changes come in with the 1.5 dual-core Krait processor, 2650mah non-removal battery, 16GB internal memory with a microSD card slot.

just curious but why would anyone need more than 16 gbs? i've uploaded like 17gb of music to google music and htc is giving you 25 gb from dropbox in which to upload pictures and videos too (which you can see similarly to google music).
i have a note with 16 built in and a 32 removable but looking at the settings right now and ignoring the 29gb i have free on the card, i have 8.76gb free combined between system and "usb" storage (don't ask me why it's labeled that).
so from total os, formatting, loads of apps (71 apps, widgets don't show), pictures (over 200), and whatever else i missed, i still have over 8gbs. i guess my point is, quit downloading porn people. lol, kidding, but i think 16 inside is fine.

Tell yourself that as you prep for your next round trip cross country flight. 32GB on a flagship 2012 product should have been a no brainer regardless of the model. Since it wasn't, you'll have to decided what music you want to dump in order to fit more movies on-board.

Quite true, and keep in mind that NAND backups, especially when you have multiple backups for different ROMs take up quite a LOT of space. Add that to HD videos, movies, high-resolution pictures, music, GPS map files, and that 16GB starts to look pretty damn small really damn fast lol. Then you think "Oh that's fine, I'll just take this MicroSDHC car....oh my God no..." So you pause for a moment and then you might think "Hey at least I have dropbox and a massive amount of files there!" but AT&T is currently doing their best (or worst) to get rid of people that have their unlimited data plan. And even then, after 3-5GB of used bandwidth, you're still on badly throttled speeds until your next billing cycle begins.
So how far can you honestly expect to get with 16GB of memory that is not expandable? Once you eat up your 2GB or 3GB of data, you're $#%@!&, especially if you're in a place where you have no computer access to retrieve files - which would be annoying to have to do anyway. And especially if you're on LTE so the bandwidth flies that much faster. If by some chance you ARE on unlimited data, enjoy downloading and swapping out 200MB of MP3 files or a 500MB movie or a 400+MB backup from your dropbox with heavily throttled speeds. So in the end you're @$#&^* again lol.
I hate to say it, because I was waiting for this device, but the lack of a storage expansion absolutely kills this for me. Add to that the non-removable battery and it's just not worth the money. Yes, there are absolutely amazing features on this device, the screen, the S4, the camera, the unified body like my Inspire - but there are certain deal-breakers that just ruin the entire experience and unfortunately, the One XL for AT&T has two of them.

Man, I am sick of reading posts like this.
Google music is fine for cloud storage IF you live in the U.S. In Canada we will be stuck with the XL an one S, both only 16gb.
I'm personaly waiting until the fall to see if HTC figures out their failure, if they want iphone features like no expandable storage and a non emovable battery then offer different storage options like Apple does.
If the one S and X / XL came in 16,32 and 64gb options, they'd sell waaaaaaay more.
If HTC wants to stick with low storage than my next phone will be the galaxy s3 instead, that's too bad

The One X uses about 4-6gb of the 16gb of storage, so we only have 10-12gb to actually play with. After loading a few games, apps, music, pictures, tv shows and movies, I might just make it under the 10gb limit. I hated constantly having to delete apps, movies from my HTC Desire because of the lack of internal storage. I don't want to go through this again with the One X.
Though I was holding out for the S3, could not help pass off a $49 upgrade on the HTC One X. I have seen disassembly pics of the HTC One X and am wondeing if they use a microSD card for the internal memory (like Samsung did for Captivate? ) and if it would be possible to swap out the memory card with a cloned say 32 gb / 64 gb card?

Oh man, I'll be so pissed if that turns out to be the case. If so, why would they give the XL only 16GB when the Tegra edition has 32?
Maybe the difference in price between the S4 and T3 is the same as a 16GB mSD card and 32GB. There's always trade-offs to be made in hardware design. HTC probably wanted to keep the phone below a certain threshold regarding component cost.

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I love almost everything I'm seeing about this phone but the 16GB (actually, only about 12GB usable) thing is really making me hesitant to buy it. Too bad the captions in the pictures aren't translated!
I don't see any microsd or microsd slot in any of those pics. Internal memory is usually a soldered chip on the board. Would be pretty difficult to swap those out.

Actually, none of the Samsung phones ever used internal microSD cards. Samsung phones always use NAND chips (Captivate included).
In the past, HTC always use miroSD cards for internal storage. But it may have changed recently. Who knows.

Yes, and the solder joints are usually tiny on the chips. Very difficult to do by hand (if not almost impossible), with little room for error.
The words in simplified Chinese are simply describing how to take the phone apart. The original pictures are a part of a series of pictures teaching you how to take apart the phone and the text are things like "The camera is connected to the main circuit board, so be sure to be careful when disassembling." I went through all of the pictures on the original site and none of it mentions where data storage is.

Thanks for taking time to review the pics and the translations.. Its a shame that HTC decided to skimp on the internal memory and provide no expandable options. Suspect att strategy involves increased dependence on cloud storage that would force users to increase data consumption... Chi ching!

Since the at&t version only has 16 gb, does anyone have the ACTUAL real storage space? Does it end up being like 14.92 gigs or something? This phone looks really sweet, but I currently have about 12-13 gigs of music on my captivate and the 16gb could pose as a real annoyance.

Thanks for the info, but WOW is that a small amount of space. I have close to 5GB on just pictures and videos alone.
I was thinking about google music, however, I mostly listen to music while in the subway; which means no reception/wifi. I had my sights on getting this phone, I guess I may need more time to think about it. If HTC was able to put a slot for a microSIM, why not a micro SD as well? . But, like someone stated in an earlier post, I'm sure it is to force people to use the cloud, which uses data, and ultimately creates overages.
I've been waiting to see a teardown to see if replacing the nand would be possible. If it was that would make a huge market for broken International One-X boards. I can't judge by the pictures if it's possible. Usually on a teardown there's at least 20 pics.
As far as AT&T's plan and why they knocked us down to essentially 10 gigs..
You had one thing right when you said cloud dependency, but I think it goes much further than that. Think of the 23GB free Dropbox space they're giving us all, the Google Music they are all undoubtedly expecting us to use. It's the precursor to their future attempt to hold your data hostage! What are you going to do if you don't pay your bill and your service goes out? You can't access your dropbox on the go, you can't stream your music through Google Play. They know that nobody wants to actually fill that measly 10 gigs with music. It's an attempt to get you more motivated to pay your monthly bill, and to extend your contract for another two years once this one is up. It's funny how they give you 23 gigs on your dropbox for 2 years, the same as your contract length. Something tells me that extending your contract will get you another 2 years once it's up. It might look like simple marketing, but honestly it's quite shady of them.

And a megabyte should be 1024 bytes. But that makes it sound less when you write it in the box. I bet you this thing has 31.25 actual gigs or less.
It's all about marketing. :sly:

what STILL bugs me is that the 16 GB HOX is actually only a little more than HALF that space. That's not marketing that's lying.

Not really, no. It has 32 Gb of internal storage. This includes all partitions (System, data, etc), not necessarily just partitions available to the user. That part is completely true, and not marketing bull****.
The marketing bull**** is that 32 GB on the box = 32,000 mb. 1 marketing GB = 1000 mb. where in reality 1 actual GB = 1024 mb.

this exactly. going to storage, I have 2.21gb total space internal and 9.93gb phone storage total. combined is 12.14gb total of the 16gb it says it has... really poor on HTC's part.

Every time a smartphone comes out, this same question and complaint comes up. Seriously, folks? The OS always takes up space. If you wanted to find out the user accessible storage before buying the device, that information is readily available online. Then, if you don't agree with the specs, don't buy the phone.

Redpoint of course the OS takes up space, but IMHO there's a HUGE difference between 16Gb advertised and 9.93 free.
I knew how much space I'd have when I bought the phone I just find it ridiculous that there's no "truth in advertising"
I've had 16 GB phones have 12-14 GB free and that's totally acceptable but 9.93?
That's almost HALF the advertised space.

Word!
I agree, it shouldn't be possible to market the phone as 16GB and then only have 62% of that actually useable by the consumer. It's a common practice by even Apple, but that doesn't make it right. You could complain to your local consumer representative body. In Australia there is the ACCC. If they deem the marketing to be deceptive, they can force a change across the whole industry. For example they fined Apple for deceptively advertising the New iPad as 4G, whereas its totally not compatible with Australian 4G at the time of launch.
The waiting is killing me? Anyone have contacts on this inside of ATT?
The links I have been following have dried up. Disappointing to say the least. Will not buy the 16gb model. The new LG has my attn atm--not quite the S4, but more than satisfactory for my needs. It may cost Samsung sales.
I wanna know the same thing
IM DYING HERE! so over my apple iphone, its sickening me!
It's a huge BS blame game. AT&T's people claim that Samsung isn't providing the 32GB yet and Samsung claims AT&T hasn't asked for it yet. Of course, there are no "official" releases from either yet, just Twitter, Facebook, and forum replies from people that claim to know. It seams as though AT&T is the only US carrier that said they would carry the 32GB but only "soon" has been hinted as to when. And no one (AND I MEAN NO ONE) at AT&T is willing to talk about it. I'm sure it's like all of the rest of AT&T's screw-ups, they hope it will go away if enough time goes by and people will forget about it.
I work for an indirect third party, in our system they've already been shipped. We're getting them on the 5th. But not allowed to sell until the 19th.

However, as indirect third, does that mean you may get them and att stores may not?
I don't trust any in-store rep. They have their own agenda--

WHY must you ALL need more than 16GB of storage..... Samsung devices have freaking SD Card slots, and in which you can stick a 64GB card in or even a 128GB if you can afford it....

Because apps cant install to SD card simple as that. This is a bs Google move so what good does an sd card give me if my apps can't use it and with games being 2gb in size now it goes away quick. I have a 64gb card and only few apps installed and I am down to 6gb free space and my SD card hasn't been touched. Piss poor programming by Google by doing this with the OS.

I agree. Even though I went ahead and got a 16 gb, I think its BS that google changed that. Does anyone know why exactly?
I really wish these carriers would pull their heads out of their a** and start being able to offer multiple storage sizes. Even with an SD slot, they can release the fruit phone with multiple choices, why can't we have that same luxury with samsung?
Just my 2 cents.
This is why these android manufacturers can't compete with iPhone. The reason Google did this is for greed. They want you to store all your stuff on their servers so they can mine it for data and deliver you targeted ads. This is their sole business and money maker. Why do you think they made android free in first place.

My dad was sad when I chose the Navy over the Air Force. He's retired AF.
As an indirect we have almost the same phones as AT&T, we use the same system they use. Just we charge less for the phone. We have the S4 for 149.99. The htc one for 149.99 and the 32gb one for 189.99. The s4 32gb is 189.99 as well when we start to sell it.
The indirect I work for, we don't pad or hop the accounts were not paid on the phone or activation the same way as most third parties . I also used to work for AT&T.

Thanks again dkirchik,
I will keep the 19th in mind for att. Hopefully they start to sell on that date. Last day for 100.00 trade in card also.
Am sure you enjoyed your career as much as I did mine--
To me this day in age, I stream nearly everything. I use spotify for music and even with several roms and others things saved on my internal SD, instill usually have 6+ GB available out of 16 so I don't find a need for 31 personally.

This is why. And reality is. Everyone wanting all this storage is a minority. Average users. (And yes after the success of the s3 Samsung is totally in the business of average users.) Don't need a lot of space. I never filled my 8 GB n4.

Who do you work for?
Hey guys tomorrow I may be getting a new smartphone and I was thinking if the LG Nexus 5 (16GB) is still worth it. The maximum I can afford is 350 euros. I'm not gonna pay more than that. I also have the option to choose between this one and LG G3S 8GB or LG G2 16GB. Which should I get and why? Thank you.
Out of those three get the Nexus, although if you can find one get a 32GB just for peace of mind. As for why, it's a Nexus so it's just better

Thanks! Another question: is it possible to install apps on external SD card? I currently own a chinese brand that let's me move most of the apps to the SD card. Can you do that on the Nexus 5? I'm asking this because I doubt I'll find the 32GB version.

There is no external SD card. You'd have to buy and otg cable ansbuab memory stick. You can then move sdcard data to otg using root apps such as folder mount.
Buy a used from Craigslist if you have one.

Be careful when buying from craigslist IMO. I bought mine from a guy who posted his ad on craigslist.. worked for 2-3 days then it wouldn't work. it turned out the phone was stolen and got blacklisted at least in Canada.
I haven't had trouble on craigslist. If you go that route have the person meet you at your service provider so they can check the imei. Works for me.
Yuup! Totally worth it. I have been using a Nexus 5 16GB for about 4 months now. Although a 32GB version is recommended if u can afford it, since Nexus 5 don't have External Memory!
I'd take a 1+1
If you game a lot on your phone, get the 32GB.
I have the nexus 16GB and a nexus 7 tablet where I do my gaming on.

Too bad I couldn't find the 32GB version anywhere. Where I live this phone is sold out. All I could find is the 16GB version on a website. I've already ordered it. I'm gonna be satisfied with it but it's really a pain in the oven the fact that I couldn't find the 32gb version. By the way I'm no expert in rooting/kernels/roms etc but from what I can see this phone has very good support. Thanks guys!!
EDIT: Guys, I just got owned. The same website sells LG G2 32GB at 350 euros. Would you guys cancel the order for this new option?

Too late. But I'm still satisfied. 16GB is gonna be enough for me. I'm not an enthusiastic gamer but I do like to play sometimes. Usually if I get tired of a game I just delete it. I'm not into music so much, so songs don't bother me so much. A couple of apps wouldn't even get closer to 1GB (I'm not talking about gaming apps). I don't know about the typical sizes of kernels/roms but I think 16GB is plenty for my needs. Thanks.

Well, I'll learn to survive at the limit. In the future (2,5+ years later if it endures all the pain) I'll probably switch to N6 32GB.
The fact that the OS's size is 5GB sounds like a 'tricky scam' from the producers to me. The phone should have about 21GB total memory not 16 then.

I ended up cancelling the order lol. I had ordered an anti-shock protection as well for the N5 but what's interesting is that they'd bring them to me separately (two different transport packages lol - which is more expensive). I sent a message to them saying if they could bring those 2 requests together and they said no, they had to bring them separately. I ended up cancelling both of them.
