Hi all,
Wife's screen stuck in HTC screen. Tried the volume down/power and factory reset with no luck, goes back to white screen with HTC logo.
I would be fine with reflashing it (it is out of warranty by several months) to original specs...was a 2.2 but she upgraded to 2.3. there are no roots or mods on this phone.
What led to the issue - she dropped in a shallow puddle getting out of car . It fell in face down, had her remove the battery instantly. I shook off moisture (was on the screen/ keyboard - the back half never made it underwater. Let dry out for half a day. shook it looking for any moisture - found none (regretting not letting it dry out longer). put in battery and phone booted normally (had low battery)...got home and plugged it in (phone had shut off due to battery low). Red light was on for several hours so she hit power button and now it is on "HTC" white screen.
placed it in a bag of rice overnight with back cover / battery out, still on HTC screen
removed rear cover and motherboard - zero signs of moisture, but ran hairdryer on it on warm setting not letting it get too hot for about 15 minutes...still no sign of water then reassembled. Still on HTC screen.
It will get to the bootloader screen when plugging usb into phone, but need suggestions on what to do / how to reflash (kind of a newb though had successfully rooted my EVO 4g with instructions from xda so not completely useless)
Any suggestions on where to start...tried searched but finding most info is for rooting/modding.
Thanks!
First thing is you should make sure it's really dry. It might not have been. Pull the battery, and stick it in a bowl full of dry rice. In the Sun is not a bad idea ( what I did to save one for someone ) . Leave it in at least a day. While it's drying make sure you charge the battery up to full capacity. NOT IN THE PHONE! Maybe use another device, or an external charger. After you've left it in the rice for a day or so, take it out dust it off. Then stick the now fully charged battery back in, and power it on. See if it boots up. If it does not then you probably toasted it. Do you have T.E.P. ? If so T.E.P. does cover water damage.
riced it
thanks for the reply - forgot to mention - placed it in a bag of rice overnight with back cover / battery out, still on HTC screen
removed rear cover and motherboard - zero signs of moisture, but ran hairdryer on it on warm setting not letting it get too hot for about 15 minutes...still no sign of water then reassembled. Still on HTC screen. then researched on xda and got into the bootloader screen.
What I guess I need is info on how to reflash it..not sure if onboard memory is toast, but how can I tell?
replaced
Sprint replaced it with a new EVO 4g (shift wasn't in stock) for $35.... problem solved.

Well glad you got it sorted. But I would sell the EVO, and get another Shift.

I'm surprised they replaced it since water damage is not covered..

Take the battary out and put them in a ziploc bag of white rice for 3-4 days then try a little boot, then it sould work, then if not I have 1 word, Assurion

I can't insure my phone, it's just not possible currently, thanks anyways.
I tried powering it up with a Nokia 6300 battery, it actually powers on, I can receive calls, texts and even connect it a PC via ActiveSync. But the screen shows nothing, and the five buttons in and around the scroll wheel do not work, neither does the "charging light". At least I know it's not totally bricked, what to do now with such screens?????
Most likely its a paper weight now, not sure about success rate with the battery still in it for a day. Sometimes submerging the phone in alcohol helps, but im not saying it will in this situation. Try looking on craigslist or ebay for another.
jimenezboy, I have one i dont need any longer if you are interested. Its an ATT FUZE model. phone worked great when i got my new one...it has been in my desk drawer since.
Hello everyone Ive had an htc inspire 4g for the last couple of months(about 4 exactly) and today for some unknown reason my phone will not power on at all. I have rooted/flashed it properly and never had any issue till today( I was running MIUI rom). For some unknown reason, the phone will simply not power on but only vibrate about 5 times(no led indication at all) with either the power button being pressed or by doing the volume down power option. it doesn't even turn on and show the splash/htc white screen intro at all. The closest thread Ive searched about this peculiar event is this one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15322157 Everything else like the micro sd card and sim seem to work fine(no data corruption) on my other nexus s phone. What can cause this and what can be the best solution to take on this(the htc inspire 4g in only 4 months old). If i call htc and ship them the phone how can i restore the phone to stock if it doesnt power on nor works when i connect it through the usb cable(not detected)? thanx in advance
*Hmm this is weird i posted this on the Q/A section and instead it was posted in the general thread section on this forum. I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place(if any moderator can move it were this topic belongs i would appreciate it).
Assuming you bought the phone new from at&t , just Call them and they will send you out a refurbished model.
Have you pulled the battery? If not pull it for a minute or 2 and blow in the battery area to make sure there is no dust in there.
This same thing happened to me and thats what fixed it.
If you have a DSC near you, go pick up a replacement battery, or call ATT to send out a battery. The calling option will take a lot longer, the DSC option is same day. We've being seeing a lot of bad batteries with these in the DSC the past month.
I had same exact issue you are having, and it turned out to be my battery. AT&T shipped one free of charge and it arrived the next day (via 2 day fedex). My problem did, however, start out as random restarts... once or twice daily until the battery completely failed. My phone was only 2 months old when it happened.

No luck at all(I was able to get a hold of an extra brand new htc battery & charger from a friend) The phone will not power on only vibrate 5 times(no led indication). Phone is clean/dust free memory card is not corrupted(its working fine)I think its strange and will just call htc(for warranty)
Possibly water got in
Was changing the screen protector and the same thing happened. Placed battery in, pressed power button, the top green LED lit up and phone vibrated exactly 5 times. Switched to different batteries; same thing happened again.
I figured probably a little water got into the phone from the side, so I used dust-off to blow the water out of the phone from the sides, exterior rim of the battery slot, the border of the bottom SIM slot; then left it to dry w phone facing down for ~15min under mild heat (light bulb); then the phone turned back on normally... phew, scared the crap out of me.
Hey guys today my One x felt in to the toilet. I was lucky enough to take the phon out of the water almost immedietlley. Shouldn't matter if it was on fastboot, that connects to a pc.. never saw one connect to rice yet. Seriously I would have turned it off being it was still wet. Just make sure it's dry before you start using it. Water bridges the wrong gap and ur phone will short something out. Wait a full 24 hours imo.

You should have powered off the phone completely, as soon as you took it out of the water, then dried it out as much as possible before powering on again. Having the phone on, while water is inside causes short circuits, which fry the phone.
I'd say, power off the phone completely (no Fast boot), and dry out the phone as much as you can, before powering it on again. Keep the phone in a bag of rice for a a day or 2 (or longer, if you can). Keeping it in a warm (but not hot) area might help drying, as well. Then see if it powers on. The phone might might keep working fine, or might work for a while and die. Short of taking the phone apart (not for everyone) and try to dry it out more, there isn't much else that can be done.
My wife dropped her iPhone 5 in the toilet about a month after it was released. She turned it off right after she got it out of the toilet, then took it to the Genius Bar. The Apple tech took the phone apart, and dried it best they could. She told my wife the phone might turn on, might not. Or might work for a while, then just stop working one day. No real rhyme or reason to it, and not much else you can do about it. Her phone has been working fine ever since.

Pretty sure he means the Sense option in Settings>Power>Fast boot; not the fastboot/adb interface.
Power off with Fast boot is not a true power off, but a deep sleep state. Might not make a huge difference. But if it were me, I would probably have turned off Fast boot in Settings before powering off and drying it.
Hmmm, what would happen if i would dry it when the phone was on.Would it be a 100 percent destroy?
No, it all depends on how much water got inside, and whether it got in a spot where it caused a short circuit. It might still be alright. But powering off completely is the safest way.

Never done this myself but saw the end result.. a guy I know propped up a hair dryer and turned it on low.. about 8-10 inches away ( adjust distance u want it warm, not burning hot.) Phone on in airplane mode. Don't need extra heat doing this. Ran hair dryer on and off for 3 days or so and the moisture slowly evaporated and display came back. This is just a suggestion, his went from horrible to very much tolerable.

A few people here have gotten moisture under the screen glass, and I think they were able to dry it our using various methods. Warm (but not hot) air is good, and also lots of air exchange to speed evaporation. So the previously recommended blow dryer on low would work nicely, as it fits both of those descriptions. Some folks have also recommended on top of your refrigerator (almost always warm), and in front of a fan might help too.
haha skorry i know thos is late but just found the post. I put my phone in to rice for 48 hours. Took it out and there was little water under display. Everything came out and phone was just washed. Htc one x was a good phone.

Hi guys. Today I made the mistake of dropping my AT&T LG G2 D800 into the toilet.
I promptly removed the phone from the toilet, it was submerged for about 2-3 seconds. The phone stayed on for a few seconds but then froze and powered off. I disassembled it as quickly as possible (accidentally cracking the back cover in the process), and put the disassembled pieces in a large container of rice.
I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions, and was also wondering how the battery can be completely removed.
I've also taken a photo of what looks like some sort of corrosion/damage on the logic board - if it helps. Otherwise, I don't see anything that looks damaged electronically anywhere else on the phone.
Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated, thank you!
First off, I'm sorry to hear about your loss I once gave my sister her first smartphone and she dropped it in the toilet as well good thing it wasn't a G2. The battery is hard to remove due to its design. They utilized all the space they could, so you have to remove some parts from the phone to be able to pull out the battery. Keep it in rice for a few days, reassemble and try your luck. Put the rest of the device in rice too, to ensure that all water has been drained.

Dropped in a basin of water
It's my usual practice to bring with me my g2 in the bathroom. I dropped it, I dont know how, in a basin of water, a little fortunate than the toilet bowl. I was able to touch the screen coz I want to turn it off. But it just suddenly did not work. So, I gave up and left it in sunlight in the living room. The next day I tried to turn it on. Led turned on then dead again. I gave up again and just left it somewhere. After two days, I, out of habit, took it where I left it and turned it on. Viola! It turned on! What I did, I turned it off and charged it full. Now, to make sure, I put it inside our rice dispenser. I'll try to turn it on again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Your best bet friend, is or was to turn off immediately and tear it down pull battery and hit with a dry chem spray heavily. Well not too heavy but then after that hair dry. Rice works in time but not many people will tell you rice can leave a starch film inside of your internals leaving you in a bad way if ever it was heated to liquify the starch. It will coat the internals and youll never get it working again. Though rare. It happens. Try to get a can of water erase. Or canned evaporater. I use it on repairs and have had many positive outcomes. When pulling battery on the devices especially lg be careful of the older nexus 4 and older devices as their internal battery flex terminals with pull right out.
Anyway. Hope you get it working bro. Peace

The thing is, d802's battery is not removable and I dont have the tools to remove the back cover. No service center here too. Luckily, my mighty G2 is working perfectly now.
All - My S3 got wet (they really aren't supposed to be put near or under water (though I have heard some do ok but mine didn't)) and it went into a constant bootloop. Waited a while and it was still rebooting constantly. (waited even weeks!)
I am pretty sure water got underneath the connections for the two buttons or maybe on the connector itself which made it short which sent a signal that both buttons were being pressed which is how you would get it to reboot.
Fix - I purchased the triangular screwdriver needed to open the case off of Ebay. I opened the case and took it apart and let it air out. I also put some rubbing alcohol on the button connectors in hopes of getting as much of the water gone as possible. See YouTube for instructions. Pretty easy to do.
Good news is that the watch works again. No more bootloop.
I also decided to purchase the button ribbon part from Samsung parts: Samsung Gear S3 frontier (SM-R760) Volume flex cable GH59-14696A. I might replace it.
Moral of the story is keep the S3 away from water!
Were you able to get your button to be responsive? I got thrown in the pool yesterday and mine was stuck in the boot loop, put it in rice and now it works but neither button will work at all. Ordered a tritip screwdriver to open it up and dry it out but was wondering if you ever got it back to 100%

It works fine. The buttons are back to normal.
The only issue I have is that when I rotate the bezel, the sensors aren't working. Not sure where the problem is located. I started a different thread in hopes of someone having an idea but nothing yet.
90% working which I can live with just fine.
Open it up (carefully) and let it air dry. I used some rubbing alcohol on the buttons. Air and time are probably the most important part of the endeavor.
I also ordered a part (GH59-14697A) in case the buttons go bad. ($9) I might change the button sensor some day.
Good luck!

Got my tool kit in today, no luck reviving my watch. I had it in rice for the last two days and I noticed it disconnected from my phone pretty quickly. I assumed that meant the battery died. Today after opening it up and doing an inspection I put it back together and now it won't charge. Flashing red light on the charger.

Sorry to hear that. Give it more time to air out. I put mine in in-direct sunlight and rotated the parts to make sure all the parts were fully dried.
Maybe the charging coil is still a little wet. It is on the bottom of the lower case.
I would suggest giving it some time...
Update: let the battery die again and sit for a few days, Yesterday decided to give it a try again and now everything is working great. The only issue I have now is the battery drain is extremely high. Took it off the charger yesterday morning at 4 and was at 10% at 5 yesterday afternoon.
