Confused about root/bootloader - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I just rooted my AT&T HTC One X today which installed SuperSu. As recommended I also unlocked the bootloader while I was at it. After I unlocked the bootloader it restarted and booted up as if I just bought the phone. SuperSu is no longer there. Im confused, is this supposed to happen? I didnt mean to wipe all of my apps and everything.

When you unlock your bootloader you lose all your apps. Just install SuperSU again from the market and you should be in business again.

Well crap... wish I hadn't done that. Installing supersu will let me remove the AT&T crap?
Thanks for the reply!

[Q] Sideload Root?

Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap!
I forgot to Titanium Backup before doing the OTA update. Is there any way to get root back?
I am stock with root. I got root originally by unlocking the bootloader and doing the temp TWRP and then back to stock and relock.
My current state is 4.4.2 locked with stock bootloader. Is there any possible way to get root back without wiping the device?

Thanks in advance

Just wondering... why would you ever want to relock the bootloader?
If the bootloader is locked and you don't have root, you're going to have to wipe it.

if you unlocked the bootloader once already, it doesn't automatically lock again. just flash TWRP again and then you can flash Super SU.
fastboot flash recovery (TWRP filename).img
*EDIT* didn't see that you relocked the bootloader... like above... why would you want to do that?

Too Late. I am all back up and running now. It really isn't that big a pain, just time consuming. I relocked before because some said that there are ways to defeat the pattern lock via an unlocked bootloader. Since all I really want is root for Titanium Backup and AdFree, I figured why make myself more open to attack. *puts tinfoil back on head*

OTA Updates, Keep Root?

I just got the 4.4.4 OTA update and appear to have lost root, i'm sure i can re root again when i get home.
However i'm wondering what people recommend in keeping root when taking an OTA update.
Thanks for any advice.

SuperSU has a "survival" mode you can check off. It basically tries to keep root after an update. Luckily its easy enough to re-root the One+.

I'm guessing you used a toolkit to unlock and root, right? If you haven't done it already, download SuperSU from here:

Then you can flash it using the install menu in TWRP recovery.

Of course it works. Also guys TWRP will try and reroot your phone a well after a flash if it detects you lost root. Not for nothing but some of you need to do more reading before you street messing with your phones and leave them toolkits alone.

If you have root and a custom recovery you shouldn't be taking an OTA in the first place.

OTA'd to 5.0.1 - Want to Downgrade for Root

So after getting my phone from Verizon, the OTA hit and updated my phone to 5.0.1 and I can't find a way to restore it back to 4.4.4.
I see Sunshine is working on getting it setup for Lollipop, but i have no idea how far away that is.
So does anyone know how I can get back to 4.4.4 to downgrade?
Unfortunately, it cannot be done. If you're s-on, and you have taken the upgrade, you're stuck until jcase updates Sunshine to support the latest software.
I really wish there were an option to roll back, my phone is ridiculously laggy since the update.

Not 100% sure but I think you have to be stock, unrooted or the OTA will fail. Since you're s-off already it's easy just to flash twrp and re-root once you take the OTA

Check Tigerstown's firmware thread first. He was going to post a pure stock ROM today
So, I think i'm in the same boat.. right now I am on 4.4.4, S-on, temp root w/ weaksauce 2.0. 100% stock besides that. I would like to update to 5.0, but want to keep root. Now since there's no root like weaksauce for 5.0, what are my options for updating to LP but still being rooted??
I have run the Sunshine APK up to the point it says it WILL work, but nervous about pulling the trigger and going all the way for warranty reasons. Would I be able to run the current sunshine to get S-off, then flash TWRP recovery, then flash the permanent root exploit and then install SuperSU. Take the OTA to LP. Once that's done, re-install TWRP and then flash root and super SU? As I understand it, S-off carries over through the OTA, but root does not??? All I really want is root to run Wifi tether app when I need to, other than that I really like the stock HTC Sense..
Sorry, but still kind of new and bewildered with the HTC stuff, all my other toys were Moto in the past so that's what I am used to tinkering with.
BTW Jcase said on his twitter @TheRootninja...new Sunshine release tomorrow (3-15-15)

Pull the trigger!
Even if you S-off @dottat has a way to flash a S-off RUU, remove root, lock the bootloader, turn S-on then flash a S-on RUU and nobody could ever tell you were S-off at one point
Your scenario up there is almost correct, except after flashing the permanent root exploit in TWRP you have to flash the stock recovery back if you want to take the OTA. After taking the OTA you then would have to flash TWRP back and root again. A hassle I would not bother with.....
@Tigerstown will post a totally stock 5.0 rom in his firmware thread. He promised it for today - if it's not there already it will come... Just wait with the update until it's out.
So a much easier scenario would be:
Use sunshine and flash TWRP.
Flash the 5.0 firmware from Tigerstown's thread, then flash the 5.0 stock rom from the same thread. Done

What I was able to do was use an older version of Kingroot, i think it was 4.6.5 or something like that. It took me a few tries with the app until it finally rooted. Then I downloaded flashify from the play store and flashed TWRP. Booted into recovery and installed superSU to replace Kingroot.
If that version doesnt work, keep searching/using different versions to see if any of them work and let me know what worked. I had to kdz back to stock and stupidly took the update to 20c and am now trying to re-root mine.

Your post is confusing. You have a Google model but you want to take a Verizon update? That won't happen via OTA. If you're rooted with or without TWRP an OTA will fail. You'll need to download a stock file and flash it manually. Then you can update from it. For example, I flashed a stock Google rom to my Verizon model and immediately received an OTA. Then I flashed TWRP and rooted again.
What do you mean by "do I need to indoor"?

Hey, thanks for replying
1. Indoor was an autocorrect I guess, was on my phone before. I meant: 'do I need to unroot.' I'll correct that now.
2. Well, I have a Google Play phone, but a Verizon SIM in it. As such, I receive the Verizon specific firmwares, that's how the Pixels pull (I think). My current build is NDE63X, which as I understand it is the Verizon version of the last update. I've never flashed a full ROM (well, not on this phone ), so the phone pulled it all on its own.

I do not have TWRP installed. Should I install that and just wait for a flashable .zip?
Thanks for any help!

I suggest following the how to apply OTA via fastboot guide.
I downloaded the OTA, used adb sideload to apply it. Let the phone reboot and finish the update. Then **BOOTED** twrp and flashed SuperSU 2.78 sr5

Download firmware you want to flash from https://developers.google.com/android/images and flash it with http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/development/tool-skipsoft-android-toolkit-google-t3482761

Tried to use adb sideload to install this update. Got an error that says "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary" in the zip file. Opening the zip in winrar shows that it is absolutely NOT structured with that format, but after downloading the update multiple times I can confidently say that it isn't an issue of file corruption. I am guessing it is because I have TWRP installed and it is expecting stock recovery, but I am not 100% sure how to resolve this.
I have a verizon phone unlocked by depixel8 and I just really don't want to flash any stock image for fear that it would relock and force me to take the new OTA during initial setup.

I have an unlocked VZW Pixel as well, you can flash the OTA update via adb sideload with the factory recovery just fine. Your bootloader will stay unlocked unless you lock it yourself. The only difference is with the latest update, you can't unlock it if you do lock it. So just leave it unlocked and you're fine. As was already said, let it boot, then flash root again and you're back in business.
Thanks

I am pretty sure having TWRP was the issue. I couldn't for the life of me get the OTA to flash, but it flashed the full stock image (replacing TWRP with stock recovery in the process) just fine. I realized after I wrote this that manually flashing wouldn't affect the bootloader and just went for it.
I don't even really need TWRP on this phone for now, I really only unlocked for when Cyanogen gets ported and incase any cool custom Kernels come out, but am just going to leave it stock for now.
