Hey,
When I first rooted my phone, it was easy and took 30 mins max, but now I've updated to jellybean and trying to root again, I just can't seem to install adb and the drivers (reinstalled OS).
I've tried various tutorials, but it's just not working.
If anyone could help via teamviewer, it'd be very much appreciated.

Why not just install a custom ROM. Isn't that what you're going to end up doing anyways?

Hi, thanks for telling me about this but once I've selected Nexus S blah... my phone reboots into fastboot mode and then on the tool window it just says,
< waiting for device >
I don't know why I'm having so much trouble, I've rooted many phones so far.

You need to install the Nexus S adb drivers. Just flash a ROM that's rooted already. There is a ota rooted ROM if you're trying to stay stock.

He can't flash it if he doesn't have root or fast boot! Try installing pdanet on tour computer, it magically made it work for me. Also try a couple different USB cables, for example my girlfriends USB cable that came with her WP7 doesn't let me do a adb or fastboot

Or I could be wrong but I think he can't cmd fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
When I try to flash recovery via fast boot it just says waiting for device.
I have pdanet installed too.
I'm going to try it on my laptop tomorrow, maybe it will work on that.

Uhh he has fastboot on his phone but the fastboot commands are not working for him, aka he doesn't have fastboot.
Drivers and getting it is a total pain in the ass, keep trying new things and eventually it will work out. Did you try a different USB cable?

If your phone still boots up but stops, you should be okay. Just find a ROM for the HOXL and reflash (flashing the kernel through fastboot), and you should be okay.
And on Thursday, be thankful you didn't flash something else like IceColdJelly, or you would have hard-bricked.

Until you downgrade your hboot you have to manually flash the kernel for each Rom... This is done through fastboot... In bootloader mode you'll see something called fastboot ...go into that now on your comp make sure you fastboot .exe file and others are in same and open up command prompt and type " fastboot flash boot.IMG or whatever you named the boot IMG you have to extract it from the Rom....others can give you more detail on it

If you can get into bootloader, you're not bricked. It's just a matter of getting the right rom back on there.

Well, I've got TWRP back and I went back and installed Phandroid, Now I'm going to figure out this fast boot ****, So I can get past the boot loop so I atleast have a phone
hold power+volume down till the lights stop blinking, then releasing power button while still holding volume down. That should get you to boot loader no matter what state its in.. Once you hit the white screen with skating droids, make sure it says "fast boot USB".
If you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer, you need to take the boot.img out of this rom, and drop it into your adb folder.
Right click on your adb folder, choose "open command prompt here"
Type fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once successful, immediately choose recovery in boot loader. Proceed to install rom zip and respective gapps if necessary

If it turns on it's not bricked, get it to bootloader, then into recovery, and put it on charge for a while.
Also, you need to tell us exactly what you did to try to recover it, so we know what we're dealing with.

It turns on, it stops in the HTC screen, it also gets into recovery, I tried to recover it, trying to erase cache, but it did not work, then I tried a factory reset, with no results. HBOOT does not recognize it in my PC.
Do you still have a ROM on your sd card? You could do a full wipe (cache/dalvik/factory reset/system) and flash it again.
You mentioned you did a factory reset, if you did that in recovery you're fine but if you did it in bootloader you've corrupted your sd card and it will need to be formatted.
In that case you will need to work out why your pc isn't recognizing your phone. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed, then you can mount the phone in recovery and format it in Windows. And if need be copy a ROM across to flash.

Installing adb/fastboot is simple, have a look here. Also go to htc.com and go to the download section on the One XL page, and download the latest HTC Sync. Install that and you'll have the right drivers.
Secondly, you might need to try a different usb cable and/or usb port to get your pc to recognise your phone.

Did you correctly set up Fastboot/ADB and install USB Drivers?

You can download the zip located in this post for fastboot and adb to work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51694329
Android SDK is not needed in this case

I don't think your issue is due to SDK
Did you correctly set up Fastboot/ADB and install USB Drivers?
BTW flashing OTA zip only requires a custom recovery.

You don't need root for a custom recovery
