just want to change my phone in the budget where i can get a nice dual core.. i am thinking to buy xperia u what u say guys is it upgrade?
That would be a big mistake. That phone is extremely ugly, small, and if you buy it you are stuck with 4 gb of internal storage. There is no sd card slot. Do not buy that phone. The g2x is way better. It is up to you though! Just trying to give you a heads up. I would buy the galaxy nexus from google if I were you. That's what I'm going to do.
I have yet to see an xperia phone that isn't terrible.

4gb is ok for me.. and yeah screen is small but not too small. 3.5 is perfect size.. and how can it be lagy when it beats g2x in benchmarks?
The XU is nowhere near a laggy phone. I own one, so you can believe what I said (and I owned O2X before). It has decent processor and GPU.
It has DLNA, and USB OTG (you can load your flash disk should you need more storage).
My only complaints with XU is the screen quality and the speaker. The screen quality is bad, you can see the digitizer dots clearly on a bright room / outdoor and it really distracting (worse than Palm Pre Plus), the picture quality itself is good though. The sound volume is really low / tiny, and if you activate the XLoud feature you'll hear a crackling sound. You can check my thread about it here.
Sola is not any better (in term of speaker volume at least). And no Front-Cam is a deal breaker to me. And the multiple color Illuminating bar on XU is better than the floating touch.
The only noticable lag found on it's browser (just like many other 2.3.x phone), and I'm pretty sure it will be fixed when the 4.0 come. For now, Opera Mobile / Mini solved the problem.
XU has nice low light photo / video cam performance too (compared to my previous Nexus S).
If you can live with 4GB of storage and low speaker sound, XU is worth to get. (I got it for IDR 2,549,000 or around USD 275)

I agree..
And even, an app lets you set notfication for missed events on the XU. I find it pretty cool.
About the Sola, i regret mentioning the phone. Not that its bad, heard that it got a real bad battery backup. Though the XU got the same battery, it performs better. So, you'd better go for XU.
Else, you could check out Galaxy Ace 2. If performance is all you care about, go for it(you need to extend your budget again).
P.S. Its UGLY!!

I respect people like u who took the time from their life and help the people to best.. i am making my mind to go for to XU but the one thing that is bothering me is screen size.. like when you go from 4.0 (g2x) to 3.5 (XU) .. how you feel? is it too small or is it like iphone 3gs?

Hello Dear One s Community ^_^
finally im able to upgrade my phone from a HTC Desire to something better... But i can´t decide what to get : HTC 1 S or the Sony Xperia S
i need a phone with good cam so:
first of all the software is not important for me i will run MIUI on it so HTC Sense is not important for me
pro Xperia S:
-dedicated camera button
- RGB Led
-Design
-720p Display
-highest dpi
-Normal LCD+Bravia Engine
-Hdmi output
-USB OTG
-32 GB Storage
negative Points:
- much thicker then the One S
-"only" a S3 processor
- smaller community
- cam software not that good
now the One S:
PRO
- Newest S4 processor
- better cam software (sense based miui roms)
- much thinner then the Xperia S
- its from HTC ( i never had ANY problem with my Desire and the Desire is still an awesome phone with the greatest community on the block after 2 years!)
Negativ
- LED Only 2 colours
- Pentile Matrix ( not that good i heard... )
- lower resolution
- only 16 gb storage ...
- i read that the one s has some build issues that the case has some problems
- no USB Otg
- no HDMI (yes with an adapter but then you can´t plugin a keyboard or something like on xperia s only with bluetooth @ one s... )
i really don´t know what phone to get ...
no fanboy comments pls
best regarts Melly
My friend got xperia, I got HTC One S.
What can I say about this:
1. HTC One S is much much more thinner, and design is better
2. Xperia got 32gb memory (I kinda dont care)
3. One S got 25gb dropbox
4. Xperia got better camera and also a button for camera (I would like one on S).
5. S can make photos of video easly, also I think it makes a photo much faster
6. Xperia dont have android 4 officialy
7. I like sens on One S
8. I didnt see much difference between the displays...
9. One S battery lasts longer. Xperias bravia engine takes its part in it.
I came from the HTC Desire to the HTC One S and i am loving it. For me i checked out the Sony Xperia S in stores but not the One S since its not availible in my country atm.
I found the screen on the Xperia S to be amazing, the pixel density is unrivalled however other than the screen the Xperia S didnt have much going for it that i required. Its a bulky phone that ran gingerbread at the time and the user experience was a bit on the laggier side. I havent been keeping up so i dont know if it has ICS yet and if it fixes those issues. The experience on the One S has been great and coming from a HTC Desire its a massive upgrade in all departments.
Main reason i chose the HTC One S was because of the size, build quality and S4 chip. The S4 chip is amazingly fast and effiecient, runs much cooler than my desire for games and i suspect it runs much cooler and more efficiently than the S3 chip found in the Xperia S. In terms of camera, both phones carry good cameras for a phone and the Xperia S seems to have better reviews but neither will replace you digital camera any time soon. I dont think you will notice much difference in quality unless u do careful analysis ;p.
To answer you question on build quality, the Micro Arc Oxidation version (Black) seems to have an unresolved chipping issue and it seems to be the luck of the draw if you get chipping or not. They grey version has none of those issues though. One thing to mention is that HTC are releasing this phone with the S3 1.7ghz chip now so better make sure with your seller before you buy it.
I think you will be happy with either phone but in my opinion if you loved the experience on the HTC Desire you'll certainly love the experience on the HTC One S.
Lastly i think with the new Jelly Bean announcement and Project Butter, when it eventually hits the HTC One S official or ported by devs coupled with the S4 chip, i believe Sense 4 will be absolutely beastly!
xperia s seems like another phone from sony that's too little too late. had they released it with a S4 cpu and ICS then it would would do okay in today's market against the offering from samsung and htc.
I think the One S is sooo fast!
Now i have the cm9 alpha 12 and its running very good!

I own both Xperia S and One S(S4). I think there are quite a lots of misleading
things on the Internet, mainly from poor review bases.
1. The major advantage from XS is the 720P LCD, obviously clear than One S. You can notice it easily. However, it does come with complaint, little yellow tint or over warm color temp. I'm glad to get an excellent LCD with minor issues of both but you might not be the lucky one like me. I do rank them at the same score unless you could find Xperia S equipped with a problem-free screen but the chance isn't high, you have to be real lucky.
2. I believe all HTC ONE will has USB OTG support with custom kernels, just don't think we will see it soon.
3. The smaller community one sadly is One S. You can go to the XS board and spot the situation, there are more threads and more roms, more active users. XS is a worldwide available mobile while One S isn't(it's, now, but divided into S3/S4 lines and S3 just isn't selling any good, at least at here - Hong Kong. None of us going to buy the S3, there are only little shops who sells it too).
4. Pentile Matrix doesn't has any issue on a 4.3" QHD. I don't know how well it performs on a larger screen with higher resolution, it may has some problems there.
5. Both design well. XS is a sex lady while One S is a pretty young girl. It's just a matter of taste. Personally, I would like to know which kind you(OP) are? just kidding...
6. yup, I like the LED on XS. It's better. But I also like One S which is thinner and light weight.
7. S4 CPU is definitely fast and not as hot as XS. The major bonus to One S and this is my main reason to use it as a primary phone. Another problem is you can't charge the XS while the phone is on and the battery temp. goes over 40 degrees(One S still charges at 40+), which is very easy to get to this temp you know it's summer now. I've tried to use air-condition flow or a big cooling fan to cool the XS down, just wish it let me to charge without turn it off. You know it's a horrible experience.
8. Time to speak on the stock ROM side. HTC is overall better, faster and not as buggy as XS(Sony UI is really pretty and there are more custom roms on XS, I think they could solve the stock problems). The battery consumption on the XS rom is superior considered it is on a S3 cpu. Sony manged it very well on XS, did a good job. I've to say the stock One S rom is only a little bit better than XS, not very good performance on battery, almost a well-known here. I know you will switch to MIUI, I'm running LeeDroid V2.1 with SetCPU and got much better battery life.
9. Finally, the camera. They both do a good job on their own, I really can't tell you which is better. They work exactly in the opposite way, very confusing? huh?
In general, XS takes excellent photo at outdoor beat the One S easy, not as fast as but not much slower than One S. While at indoor or low light environment, One S blows the XS away with f/2.0, XS got more noise with slow focus. XS is great for outdoor and One S is great for indoor.
XS does a very accurate white balance all the time outdoor/indoor but One S has faster focus speed outdoor/indoor. The XS auto scenes mode and close up mode works better while One S gives you a 60 photo bursting mode(old rom supports up to 99).
Video part is the XS wins. The video is more stable and the quality is also improved in the official ICS. One S on the other hand, let you shoot 5M photo during recording and offers a funny slow motion video mode.
10. At last, I forget to tell you. The Xperia SL(Lt26ii) will roll out. No one know the details at right now but it might be a S4 cpu or LTE supported device.
Thank you to reading my long reply and not fall asleep.
Just some quick updates to my last reply ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629134&highlight=usb+host
It's my fault. One S already supported USB-OTG now. It is just quite trouble because it doesn't provide power. We still need a kernel mod like on One X to make USB-OTG supports better.
And second, it's confirmed Xperia SL remains as a S3 unit. I guess no S4 and LTE, just some minor upgrade like [email protected]
sold my experia and got a one s.. if that tells u something. Got damn small buttons on the xperia got me crazy
I think these are probably two of the best phones being released this year. The ZL just hit the FCC for att and the Z is over seas basically the same phone just one got notification LED and the US ZL isnt fully water proof like the OG Z.
Anyway i want to compare the phones both design wise and spec wise which you think is better or would prefer.
To me i like both appearance wise, the only thing i dis like about the sony is non removable (smaller batter) than the s4. 2370mah vs 2600...
The other thing is which one packs the most speed under the hood... Im not to familiar with the Chipset, Qualcomm MDM9215M / APQ8064
CPU Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait, GPU Adreno 320 thats in the sony. And depending on which variant of s4 you get then there is snapdragon and exynos..
So thoughts anyone... I dont want this to be a bash this or that thread just honest comparison of the two as i think the xperia z is one of if not the closet contender to the s4 for 1080p smart phones

I have a Z and the screen is phenomenal, much better than the One X and GS3, it just doesn't look too good on videos...
Overall, I love my XZ, the waterproof is really cool and I like to show that feature off.
I prefer Sony due to their developer-friendliness and higher build quality.
I also love their UI, Samsung's just doesn't do it for me, and their phones don't look too nice to me either.
That is not to say that Samsung make bad phones, the specs are usually ahead (on paper), and I'm sure there are people who like the phone design/UI choices that Samsung make...

With such a high pixel density, you can't really say that a 1080p phone screen looks that different to a 720p one... (I own both an XT and an XZ, and they look almost identical)
There isn't exactly a plethora of 1080p phones to compare it to at the moment anyway.
I have found that I prefer Sony's TFT displays, they are less saturated, although the viewing angles are worse (which is fine, I hold my phone in-front of me, not sideways )
But whatever, I'm not gonna say whether one is 'the best', these are just my opinions...

Don't even try to compare LCD Vs (S)AMOLED. It's not the same technology at all. (S)AMOLED is great for people loving over saturated colors (including me), whilst LCD is for people that are more into life like colors. But....
The Xperia Z is having some serious problems with its display. Consistency is the word here and the Z doesn't seem to use the same display across devices. Some devices uses Sharp displays whilst some devices uses JDC. (S)AMOLED devices has excellent viewing angles, SLCD2/3 panels are also excellent, but the Z's TFT is quite disappointing. It's a really great device - and dev friendly, but the screen is toataly ruining it for me.
The S4? Really boring. It's packed with new features, but it's soooo boring. We've seen it before.
This is my own opinion.

Personally i like the s4 since its got the latest tech but to me they did good tech wise but are getting lazy in the appearance and software side of the phone game..
Sure you could probably say a galaxy looks the way it does because that makes it a galaxy but I feel the s4 should of had a bold new design and either less of a tw skin or a completely overhauled tw like no one has ever seen before. Guess I'm getting bored with they're products that's why i am leaning toward the zl because i like the software skin and design of the phone...

Yeah. I love the Z's display.
It's slightly behind the GS4 in terms of CPU (1.5 GHz quad Krait instead of 1.9) - but that really only matters on benchmark epeen. The raw hardware performance advantage will be thrown away by Samsung's bloat and atrocious software incompetence. Samsung Touchwizz is revolting and bloated, constantly assaulting you to sign up for a Samsung account until you give in or nuke the bloat. Sony's stock firmware, on the other hand, is so clean and well done that the ONLY thing I've done to my device after rooting so far has been to freeze the charge reminder in TiBu.
I'll be switching to CM10.1 soon, but that's more because I'm a CM maintainer and that is what I do, not because of deficiencies in the Sony stock firmware. If I had to run 100% unmodified stock on a device, the Z is the first non-Nexus device I've felt that I might be able to tolerate such an experience.

That's because the XZ can't compete. It has a subpar 1080p screen with washed out colors and really bad viewing angles, the speakers position is ridiculous and the speaker itself isn't that loud and clear, It LAGS like hell when you use the Sony launcher especially when you add more widgets and battery life isn't great. Plus it has some overheating issues. I think Sony will do better next year and this device is something to build up on, but it cannot compete with either the S IV or the One.

I've owned the Xperia Z since launch...
The display is very good, going from an S3, I have no regrets. Colours are good. Viewing angles are good too, slight change on colours ay extreme angles. My GS3 used to get a multi coloured sheen at extreme angles. Speaker is fine, location can be awkward but I rarely accidently cover it up with my hands.
In no way is the XZ laggy, I've not experienced this, infact its the most fluid handset I've owned.
Battery is good, needed cycling, lasts alot longer than my GS3 ever did. Also my GS2 and GS3 overheated more than my XZ.

Hi guys. It's time to change my desire z at lest.
The price I am considering is somewhat around how much new xperia s consts.
I want at big screen, GOOD CAMERA pictures, good build quality. And overall fluidness of system. Dont care about 3d games that much but it would be nice to play some from time to time. battery life? I know I cant expect much but would be nice if it was not terrible.
Main candidates - feel free to add other options
Sony Xperia S (new) - It looks like good device. Only con is 2core cpu but it is highly clocked and camera seems nice?
HTC one X (used) - dont know about camera(it sure looks like its about to get scratched)
galaxy s3(used)
Nexus4 (used)
I'd go for Nexus 4. I'm just a no-go for the rest of them. I have an S3, and I'm more "wanting" for the Nexus 4 (if not for the low storage capabilities).
Not sure about the specs on the Xperia, but of the other three I'd say S3. Having an extra SD card is nice if you're going to take a lot of pictures/video - and can save you when it comes to custom ROMs and such. And being able to just switch the battery out is pretty great, too.
I'm loving my Galaxy Note 2. After I quit using my Galaxy Nexus for about a week, the large screen doesn't feel TOO big anymore. It's now comfortably large. With Jelly 'Beans' ROM installed, it is even better.

Choose the Nexus 4!
So most people say s3. It takes better pictures than xperia s ?
Also it looks a bit too flimsy and plasticy.
about nexus4. Isnt it overheating? I've seen videos about that.
I dont need sd slot if there is 8gb or more onboard
Nexus 4 is brilliant. Mum got it as her new phone which I recommended and loves it. Played with it quite a bit and haven't noticed any overheating at all. The camera is very sharp and since the phone was designed for jellybean 4.2 already it runs very smooth. Plenty of storage space too. Also feels and looks a more solid build than the S3.
In the end your own decision mate. Both S3 and Nexus 4 are great phones.
well nexus 4 is definietly looking better than s3. both in looks, build quality and specs. Also the price is better. I could maybe find new nexus4 in the price of used s3.
it is a no brainer. But I really want best pictures possible for android phone and that overheating... it's bugging me ;/

Looking online maybe don't upgrade to 4.2.2? It seems most issues have been related to that update. Although ALL phones I have used heat up quite a bit under extended use like gaming or skype none of them has resulted in a shut down due to reaching an excessive temperature.
I guess it all depends on how lucky you are with your specific handset if it is stable or not
Maybe some sony xperia ? (excluding z - too expensive)
there is s, p, t and maybe some more. wtf

The Xperia T is the flagship that preceded the Z (S3, One X, Optimus G gen), at a better price (got it for $400, aka a $100 less than the rest)
I love it, smooth, nice screen, gorgeous UI, and nice cam, having a PSN account (or Sony media account in general) will give you the most of your device,. Also, beware of the locked bootloader ones (if you're into modding)

Hi, I'm considering buying the HTC One Mini. The main thing keeping me from jumping on it that it only has 1GB of memory and the lack of optical image stabilization (my phone is my only camera). The regular HTC One would be perfect if it wasn't so big. I've been using an iPhone 3GS for the past year and a half after my Motorola Atrix 4G broke so I can't wait to upgrade. I've had nothing but problems with my iPhone. Anywho:
1) How does the One Mini's camera compare to the One's? Does the lack of optical image stabilization noticeably impact picture quality?
2) Do you find loading and switching between apps slower on the One Mini compared to flagship devices with 2GB of memory like the One and the S4? How would you compare their real world performance?
3) How is the audio compared to the One? I've heard it's still good, just less loud and a little less clear, but I want to know what you guys think.
4) Does your One Mini get hot? If so, under what conditions?
5) How is the battery life?
6) Do you know of any other smaller mid to high range phones for AT&T? I'd be okay with waiting a month or two if there's a good upcoming phone.
Thanks!
1) How does the One Mini's camera compare to the One's? Does the lack of optical image stabilization noticeably impact picture quality?
to be truthfull im sastified with the picture qaulity on my HTC ONE mini check out the included fotos as for the OIS not really sure but havent had any problems with blurred fotos or night shots.
2) Do you find loading and switching between apps slower on the One Mini compared to flagship devices with 2GB of memory like the One and the S4? How would you compare their real world performance?
im sastified with the performance of The HTC one mini of course there is a slight lag ouput when opening apps but its not really noticeable 1sec tops and if rooted the performance is dmn good for a Dual core Smartphone.
3) How is the audio compared to the One? I've heard it's still good, just less loud and a little less clear, but I want to know what you guys think.
Audio is good dont have any comparisons to the Htc one but Ditched my Xperia z for this phone and the overall qaulity is ten times better havent looked back ever since.
4) Does your One Mini get hot? If so, under what conditions?
when using daily it hardly gets warm when using under normal conditions surfing, email etc only when playing graphic intense games does it get allittle warm but with a case not noticable at all.

1. The camera quality is still ok in my opinion but im not somebody that uses the camera very often.
2. Its fast and very smooth no complains here and you only need the more memory and better cpu if you play games otherwise i dont think you will see a big difference.
3. Have to be honest here the speaker are very quiet but got a good quality, its better with headphones and not to quiet.
4. For example if you play gta 3 or vice city or any other game that needs performance it will get hot but from my experience its not too bad especially if you hold it horizontal while playing.
Another fact that i should tell you is that the phone does not get hot or warm if you load it, it seems like the case does a good job with cooling it down.
anyway if you have any further questions about the phone just let me know.
Thanks for the responses.
Two more question if you wouldn't mind: How is the battery life and do you know of any other smaller mid to high range phones for AT&T? I'd be okay with waiting a month or two if there's a good upcoming phone.

battery life suxx on every single smartphone thats my opinion.... if you play games or watch videos your power will melt away pretty fast...
after one day it had 50% with mobil data on and normal use, if you use it a lot you have to charge every day.
I received my Note 3 N9005 (LTE Qualcomm version) this morning and so far it's blown me away. I had an S4 (also Qualcomm LTE quad core) for a few weeks before ditching it and going back to my Note 2 due to the lag and various performance and heat issues, but I'm glad to say they're gone completely on the new Note 3. Under heavy load the back does get warm obviously, it's a fast processor and high-end GPU after all, but it stays cooler than the S4 and takes longer to heat up in general. Everything in the UI is utterly smooth and lag free, launching the camera app and taking a snap is near instant compared to the ~2 second lag on the S4 between pressing the shutter button and an image being captured. [email protected] videos look stunning, I was seriously impressed at the phone's ability to keep up and maintain the frame rate, and when in this mode the screen updates at 60fps as well so you get a good preview. [email protected] is likewise excellent, although just be sure to select 1/4 speed rather than the default 1/8 speed, as this still captures at 120fps (1/4 speed), but encodes and plays it back at 15fps (1/8 speed) which is not smooth at all. The display is absolutely beautiful, coming from the Note 2 the step up in resolution and colour presentation are immediately obvious, and even outdoors it still looks great. This is the nicest phone display I've ever laid eyes upon, and I've had a good look at most of 'em. Gone is the black crush effect, the purple redraw artefacts and the grittiness of the S4's panel, and being sAMOLED contrast is exceptional. In the hand it feels light compared to the Note 2, but at the same time sturdier, better built and there is zero flex or creaking unlike it's predecessor. USB 3.0 file transfers are noticeably quicker than USB 2, except of course if you're writing to the external MicroSD card as it's write speed is the bottleneck there. The faux-leather effect back still feels like plastic, but there's better grip and being matte, no fingerprints.
So far it feels like it justifies the high price (£604.96 from www.unlocked-mobiles.com including shipping), and time will tell on the battery life. Despite the bump in resolution I'm expecting good things there, the more efficient SOC and slightly larger capacity cell should hopefully offset the draw of running all 2,073,600 of those tiny little LEDs. So yeah, so far I love it and can easily recommend the upgrade from the Note 2, and especially the S4. If anyone wants more details, just ask
Nice little review.. what you think about the speakers? any better than the note 2? the note 2 speakers were better than s4 or any other samsung phone previously so maybe this one is a tad bit better? coming from the htc one, I know im going to miss those speakers but hopefully i dont cringe in pain from the experience on the note 3 (speaker wise) lol ..no one seems to do a review of the speakers on youtube and when i get the phone, thats the first thing i will do for people
As far as the speakers are concerned I just want them to be louder. I hate it when it is so quiet you can barely hear anything.
So can you give us an update on the loudness for the speakers please.
Don't worry about the battery life, it's pretty decent. I have posted detailed battery usage on my thread if you're interested. And the charging speed is around 48%/hour so you can topple it up pretty quickly compared to other phones.

The sound is louder than Note2's I think. I sold my note2 already so can't compare them side by side.

The loud speaker is definitely an improvement on the Note 2, and being positioned on the bottom edge doesn't get obscured merely by putting the phone down on a soft surface such as the arm of my sofa. In terms of volume it's clearly louder and has less distortion than the Note 2 and S4, but it won't match the experience of the HTC One with it's dual front-facing speakers. Quality wise, it's still a tiny phone speaker so you won't be doing any serious listening with it, but it's loud and clear enough to be heard in noisy environments within limits, not in a club or near a runway obviously, but it's acceptable in the car and walking around the city. The headphone output however is I think my favourite improvement. Audio output via a decent set of headphones is simply incredible. Not just incredible for a phone, but bona fide excellent. I'm not claiming it'll best a Linn reference set up, but I've heard poorer audio from home setups and dedicated headphone amps costing many times the price of this phone. PowerAmp seems to downsample anything above 48khz, but the stock player renders 192KHz 24-bit flac files beautifully.

I live in Scotland, I don't know what anything looks like under direct sunlight  It's fairly bright outside just now but overcast, and the screen remains clearly legible and bright. Indoors under LED bulbs it looks great too, and reflection is not as much of an issue as it was on the Note 2.
Thanks! I'm in SoCal and it's sunny almost everyday of the year so that's a concern

Quick/stupid question. The sticker on the site of the box that states what region sim you can use. Does it state North America and the Caribbean?

The only difference I can see is the ATT version comes with a slightly different back cover, which features a rather tacky (in my opinion) stylised "Galaxy Note 3" in silver near the bottom.

And AT&T version comes with the bands to support their LTE.
