Is there anybody who would be willing to help me with using UOT kitchen? I would really appreciate it. Any body who has my phone the Samsung exhibit 2 4g would be best. But all are welcome.

You're a big boy now. Use your words to express the kind of help you seek, otherwise we can only guess as to the difficulty you are having.
That first part was unnesscary. Anyways it just seems a little complicated and I don't know how the whole process works. Just two things I guess, is the theme I produce in the kitchen a rom or is it just a framework I apply and it doesn't replace the rom I'm using. And do I need to make copies of my framework and that other thing and upload it to the kitchen to make my theme?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
Your going to need two files...copy the ones you have on your phone.. system.ui.apk/framework-res.Apk...... then whem your building the theme you like you will add those last.. it will ask you to upload those.. do it...wait till the kitchen makes the theme and place it on the sd card.. flash it.....that's it.. it just adds whatever u made to your current set up your on.. either stock or a rom your on.. or theme.. it will substitute the parts you made and use those instead ...goodluck
It can also be called "SystemUI.apk" right?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
OK I did the kitchen and it worked. I have a different status bar and lock screen. Although the boot animation didn't work, probabily because of my rom.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
Are you using a ROM with TouchWiz? If so, you will need three files. Connect your phone to your comp and go into /system
From there, go to /apps and copy SystemUI.apk to the desktop. Then go back a folder and go to /framework From there, copy framework-res.apk, and if you have touchwiz, copy twframework.apk to the desktop. Upload these files to UOT when you get to that step.
Once you get the new files from UOT, save it to the desktop and open it. Delete the three previous files you copied to the desktop, then search the one you got from UOT, for the same 3 files.
Now, pay attention, and get Root Explorer or Super Manager.
Open the app of your choice that will let your explore your file system. Find the 3 same files we've been dealing with in their respective locations on your phone, using the file explorer. (after you've transfered the ones from UOT to THE ROOT of your sd card) Copy the 3 UOT files over the ones already in your phone, which you will find in their previosly disclosed locations.
Once copied, IMMEDIATELY reboot to recovery and fix permissions.
Substitute "3 files" for "2 files" if not using Touchwiz.
Hope this helped!
---------- Post added at 02:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:55 AM ----------
Also, you can just straight copy the UOT files to their respective locations in the .zip of the custom ROM you are using, and flash the ROM.
Yea I have the twframework apk in my system, does that mean its touch wiz?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
yes. and follow my instructions above, or you will start to have errors. Definatel force closes.
The fact that the status bar wasn't changing could have been due to the fact that I wasn't adding my touch wiz framework?

Turns out that my phone has issues with changing the status bar color and the status bar XML file needs to be edited to actually change it. So how about a little less rudeness next time?

This message "WAS" for mendozinas but last post i found from him was in 2011. i do thank for having a kitchen like this to customize pretty much anything for my phone (p500) Optimus one. I was informed that the kitchen will not support ics based so i flashed over Slimgen 1.6.0 (android 2.3.7) i just made some themes for the rom, havent tried them yet. I did upload the Framework.res and SystemUI.apk of the rom so hopefully it will work this time. I was wondering If anyone can add my rom (well the rom im using) on the kitchen list. SlimGen 1.6.0 here is the link to download the rom itself. im sure you already know.
http://code.google.com/p/slimgen-pro...downloads/list
Regarding to Mendozinas only. (Please reply back if you recieved my message. thanks agian. i do appreciate it. I sent you a PM figuring it will get to you quicker but i realized you must have many Pm's about certain questions. So maybe this will do the trick.) Regarding to Mendozinas only.
I tried to trouble shoot myself, still in early dev mode for me (learning the ropes) but i made a copy of the rom i have and plugged in what was from the UOT file that was giving to me from the kitchen. I made a flashable zip on my desktop and place it on the root of my sdcard. Booted into recovery...flashed it but still i get the same message. Am i using a correct rom for this or what?
Im attaching the UOT file i made so if u may need to look at it its there, any info you want from me just ask, im very greatful for the help, would really like to make different themes on my phone for start then move to rom modding .
I would really like a step by step if possible so i may get this theme up and flashed on my phone so i may make different ones for future needs.
Thanks again and hopefully i will be hearing from you.
(I posted this up couples days ago. but nobody is dealing in that thread i guess, So hopefully one of you are more familiar using the kitchen then i am.) 07-30-12 date.
I hope i gave the right information to lead me into the right direction soi may start understanding how to work around such problems like this. Thanks
Welp, all's well that's ends well

1. How do I sign a .zip so I can flash it?
2. How do I remove a kernal from a rom to be used in another?
3. How do I remove a theme from a rom to be ued in another?
Sorry, I just don't know much about what files go where and such.
Thanks everyone

You simply don't need to sign the zip for it to flash with clockwork, its a completly unnecessary process with clockwork.
Extracting a kernal is easy just ope the rom you want the kernaal from or kernal zip and find the folder called something like kernal_update.
If you want to extract a theme it could be simple or hard depending on the theme, the most basic thme will theme 3 files in /system/framework, being twframework-res.apk, framework-res.apk and services.jar. just pull those and replace them in any other /system/framework folder.
If you are looking to build your own rom and are going to use somebody else's work then ask them first or at least give them credit, okay?

I used UOT kitchen recently to theme the Xplod ROM. Under Icons, I chose the "Anastasdoid" notification power buttons, it worked great but it's missing the 4g icon.
My question is, does anyone know of an app that I could use to replace just the 4g icon? I tried Desktop Visualizer, but it only lets you create Widgets and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a new icon you what to use you just need a copy of your systemui.apk open in archive and go to res/drawable-hpdi and you can change out the old for the new one and copy the changed systemUi.apk to your system/app and make sure the permissions are correct and should be good to go. or post your systemUi.apk and the icon and i can whip up a flashable for you later.
Thanks for yje quick response dased. Man I see you all over these threads helping out, I really appreciate it.
Quick question.. I know where systemui.apk is at and how to move it, but I'm lost on the "open in archive", and how to go to res/drawable-hdpi. Do I use root explorer for that, or is that part of an app?
Again thanks, and I may just take you up on posting the .apk, and icon if I can't figure it out..lol

no easiest way is to use root explorer to make a copy of your systemUI.apk and transfer that to pc, then make a copy and open that copy so you can resize your new icon and rename your new icon correctly. when you have that done you open your og copy of systemUI in archive with 7zip(it opens but doesnt unzip it and you cant look at the images just names, thats why i make a copy to open)when thats all done you put it back. now you can use root explorer to do that it goes back into system/app or if you want i can give you a zip that it can be placed in. all you have to do is open it place your systemUI.apk in and rezip in normal. or you pull it give it and new icon and i'll resize, etc... and then post it back and you flash the zip.
Okay, from your first instructions, I started to fiddle around. I copied it to SD, basically did everything you explained in the second post. With the exception of when I used root explorer to put it back in system/app I neglected to rename it appropriately, or change permissions. I changed names, went to erase the original and ... yup bootloop. Lol I should of waited for your instructions!
I think I got it now, thanks for the help. I'll post a screen shot when I get it right, I'm just copying the brightness icons untill I can Photoshop a 4g one.

Hey jamie, I hope you don't mind if I jump in. but I'm kind of in your boat.
Dased, this is what I did. I pulled the systemui.apk extracted on phone with root explorer to a folder. Copied folder to pc and edited a majority of the iconsin folder just to make them different colors. I saved back in folder, transferred folder to phone, zipped the folder and then flashed it. Phone boots up and everything seems great. All my colors work and everything. But when I try to go into certain applications. They force close. Like my messaging, camera, root explorer, etc. they don't work. Do you know what I'm doing wrong??
I gave up a whole ago. But if I can figure this one problem out. I'll have a sweet theme. Thanks!!

Was there anything else in the zip you used?
You only changed the stuff in the res/drawable-hdpi file, correct?
Not using godmode or anything like that?
Did you flash anything rimght before or after, and did you wipe?

I use Amon RA Haus Mod 2.3 and have never had an issue before. Probly time to swap in a new SD card.. I think I abuse em a little much.
Anyways, I'm about to start over with UOT. I checked the TN sight and they have a newer version out, so I installed it. Not sure if the framework changed but JIC.

I'm going to try this again from scratch. But tailor it a little more toward what you are saying.
So I'm going to take the system ui and get in and just change the res > drawable-hdpi. Rezip and then replace with the original on my phone. Instead of flashing the zip. Our if I need to flash, what all needs to be in the zip folder? I don't know what godmode is. I'm using fresh 4.2.
Edit: okay. So I was mistaken. The system ui change worked. It's when I try and get into the framework where I see problems. Am I able to change framework?

So, I googled UOT, based on just reading what you were talking about. I had tried to look it up before but the kitchen was full, so I thought maybe that just meant that it wasn't working anymore or something. But I got on it today and did the whole thing. So I am waiting for my theme to cook right now. Hopefully it all works out, then I won't have to do it manually. So thanks for bring that up even if you weren't necessarily directing it towards me.

Yep add all the icons you want to change in systemui and framework and then run it in uot for overscroll and things like that and it gives you all the changes all wrapped up in a pretty zip. So your theme will be ready to flash with minimal errors.

Okay, so I have been able to get a bootanimation.zip that i want. I placed it in /data/local... I reboot and it still shows the old swirling Samsung logo...But it does play my custom boot sound (awesome)... I haven't really seen any SGS4G specific threads...and the ones to other phones kind of run me in circles. Not looking for a hand out, just a heading...any idea? Something im PROBABLY missing...
Oh and i gave the bootanimation.zip god privileges...not sure if it matters
Running on 2.3.5 KI3 from Octiane V2.0 (awesome ROM BTW)
at the moment our gingerbread kernels do not support custom boot animations. I'm sure once we have a source to work with, will have full support.

OK first try with this app. I rooted my girls stock gingerbread droidx (if u need help rooting it stock gb droid x u can email me.)then u can download root toolbox and they have a section for boot animation, select one u like and install it. with this app u can even change splash screen and battery icon but for icon u will need pro version. u can just go to ipmart and download it for gree. anyways..... if this does not work u will have to do it manually which may seem scary but its quite simple. first get the bootanimation.zip u want and rename it(if u r with verizon) VZW_bootanimation.zip then download super explorer and then go to ur phones internal system /custom/reasourses and first want to go to that location and copy past the original bootanimation of phone and save to soundcard incase u want to change back to it in system/customize/reasourses and delete ,it will be names VZW_bootanimation.zip. now the custom animation can be added. go copy the custom animation go back to system/customize/reasourses and paste new animation a boom it will work I promise. note if for some reason when u restart phone and no animation is there dont worry nothing is broken the animation isn't allay compatible so just find another on and follow all the steps again minus saving the boot u had added u can just delete it.. now what I desperetly need help with is adding custom sound. I have tried many different thing with no results but negative. ive tried deleting the old sound file and renamwd new sound as old one and placed in system/customize/reasourses no sound , I even went into system/customize/cd/default.xml and changes the writing that tells the system when to play music to autostart="part0" /> no go ,="part1" /> no go. neither worked. I even unzipped the bootanimation.zip and renamed the folder VZW and changed back autostart="VZW" ect which was the original setting and no go. ive tried renaming file and placing it in system/media and pasteing no go, ive tried copying file and pasteing it in system/meadia/notification like some direction have said and no go. im at a lose of what to do. I have a thunderbolt running stock gb and want to customize the sound for bootanimation so if anyone can help please email me [email protected]. thanku and I await ur response

Considering this is for the Samsung galaxy s 4g, you technically are in the wrong forum. Our phones use a qmg file for animations as far.as I know, so bootanimations.zip will not work, I've already tried the method you posted, without success.

there's a few custom ones in the theme section. You just have to push all the files manually.

then its quite simple just rename ur new bootanimation exactally as ur old one a boom there u go. its not that difficult and if that doesnt work try something simple and download romtoolbox and install if from therr. if it works on the droid x it should that one

I will try that. If the qmg file is truly a zip file with its own custom file extension, then it should work, if its not, then it will display nothing. I'll back up just in case, but I was told by a developer on this phone (I believe raver), that it wasn't supported by the kernel.

Hey guys, I'm trying to port over the ICS transition animations over to the CM nightlies via this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117
I did everything to a T numerous times and every time I push the newly modified framework-res.apk into my system/framework via Root Explorer I'm always hit with FC's and when I reboot I get hit with bootloops.
Anyways I was wondering if anyone else can see how to get this working on the G2x, any help would be great!
just wandering isnt the framework for cm7 different from the framework for ics so that may be the problem. just my thoughts.
You are aware that this is done in the computer, not inside the rom, you have to do this with the zipped rom, and then flash it.

Yes I took the framework, decompiled it, replaced the old animations with the ICS ones. Then I recompiled it, signed it, and then tried to push it into my system and get loops every time. What I'm doing should be working but its not. So was wondering if someone who knows more about this could see why its not working.

Not that it will likely help much, but it is not required to sign system apks. Furthermore, are you making any XML edits? If so did you make sure to remove the edited files and the resources file?

System files should never be resigned after editing them. That is why APK Manager asks you if it is a system file. It doesn't sign it. Just compile it and then zip align it. Don't sign it and try it again. Also when I recompile system files I never say Yes to the last question about copying everything over to the keep folder. I just recompile from the files in my project folder and I never have problems.
I think the ea asiest way of doing this is deleting the anim folder in the framework-res.apk and drag/drop ics anim folder into that apk. It might ask you if you want to add, just click yes. And then just push the new modded framework-res to your phone with adb. That's what I did from cm6 to cm7. It might be different with ICS....its worth a shot. Hope this helps.

What's with all the interest in porting these animations anyway? They are nothing special.

You have to tell people what rom you are using. The framework files are not the same between the different roms. You just can't use a modified framework meant for another rom.
i have miui 11/18 but ill switch to cm7 if you can get it working on that
I GOT IT !!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342117&page=14
find the patcher by DaxElectro and download it , it works with miui and cm7 , once you make the 2 zips go into recovery mode and go to mounts and storage than mount system than flash the patch zip and enjoy ics transitions , i tested it with miui and it works
