How do I change my 4g power button? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I used UOT kitchen recently to theme the Xplod ROM. Under Icons, I chose the "Anastasdoid" notification power buttons, it worked great but it's missing the 4g icon.
My question is, does anyone know of an app that I could use to replace just the 4g icon? I tried Desktop Visualizer, but it only lets you create Widgets and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a new icon you what to use you just need a copy of your systemui.apk open in archive and go to res/drawable-hpdi and you can change out the old for the new one and copy the changed systemUi.apk to your system/app and make sure the permissions are correct and should be good to go. or post your systemUi.apk and the icon and i can whip up a flashable for you later.

Thanks for yje quick response dased. Man I see you all over these threads helping out, I really appreciate it.
Quick question.. I know where systemui.apk is at and how to move it, but I'm lost on the "open in archive", and how to go to res/drawable-hdpi. Do I use root explorer for that, or is that part of an app?
Again thanks, and I may just take you up on posting the .apk, and icon if I can't figure it out..lol

no easiest way is to use root explorer to make a copy of your systemUI.apk and transfer that to pc, then make a copy and open that copy so you can resize your new icon and rename your new icon correctly. when you have that done you open your og copy of systemUI in archive with 7zip(it opens but doesnt unzip it and you cant look at the images just names, thats why i make a copy to open)when thats all done you put it back. now you can use root explorer to do that it goes back into system/app or if you want i can give you a zip that it can be placed in. all you have to do is open it place your systemUI.apk in and rezip in normal. or you pull it give it and new icon and i'll resize, etc... and then post it back and you flash the zip.

Okay, from your first instructions, I started to fiddle around. I copied it to SD, basically did everything you explained in the second post. With the exception of when I used root explorer to put it back in system/app I neglected to rename it appropriately, or change permissions. I changed names, went to erase the original and ... yup bootloop. Lol I should of waited for your instructions!
I think I got it now, thanks for the help. I'll post a screen shot when I get it right, I'm just copying the brightness icons untill I can Photoshop a 4g one.
Hittin the thanks button now

Hey jamie, I hope you don't mind if I jump in. but I'm kind of in your boat.
Dased, this is what I did. I pulled the systemui.apk extracted on phone with root explorer to a folder. Copied folder to pc and edited a majority of the iconsin folder just to make them different colors. I saved back in folder, transferred folder to phone, zipped the folder and then flashed it. Phone boots up and everything seems great. All my colors work and everything. But when I try to go into certain applications. They force close. Like my messaging, camera, root explorer, etc. they don't work. Do you know what I'm doing wrong??
I gave up a whole ago. But if I can figure this one problem out. I'll have a sweet theme. Thanks!!

Was there anything else in the zip you used?
You only changed the stuff in the res/drawable-hdpi file, correct?
Not using godmode or anything like that?
Did you flash anything rimght before or after, and did you wipe?
?

Quick update. I restored my nandroid of Xplod with my uot theme, and for the first time I apparently had a borked nandroid.
I use Amon RA Haus Mod 2.3 and have never had an issue before. Probly time to swap in a new SD card.. I think I abuse em a little much.
Anyways, I'm about to start over with UOT. I checked the TN sight and they have a newer version out, so I installed it. Not sure if the framework changed but JIC.
Thanks again dased, it's folks like yourself that make xda such a great place!

I'm going to try this again from scratch. But tailor it a little more toward what you are saying.
So I'm going to take the system ui and get in and just change the res > drawable-hdpi. Rezip and then replace with the original on my phone. Instead of flashing the zip. Our if I need to flash, what all needs to be in the zip folder? I don't know what godmode is. I'm using fresh 4.2.
Edit: okay. So I was mistaken. The system ui change worked. It's when I try and get into the framework where I see problems. Am I able to change framework?

No kidding? That's awesome, I think I'm gonna go that route, it would definitely save me time inside root explorer. Then have it all on a zip, or would it work to have it come back as an app for theme Chooser?

So, I googled UOT, based on just reading what you were talking about. I had tried to look it up before but the kitchen was full, so I thought maybe that just meant that it wasn't working anymore or something. But I got on it today and did the whole thing. So I am waiting for my theme to cook right now. Hopefully it all works out, then I won't have to do it manually. So thanks for bring that up even if you weren't necessarily directing it towards me.

Yep add all the icons you want to change in systemui and framework and then run it in uot for overscroll and things like that and it gives you all the changes all wrapped up in a pretty zip. So your theme will be ready to flash with minimal errors.
now the voices are 3d

Here is one I'm playing with all icons(but Battery) I made and the kenny icon turns into another character when bluetooth is paired
I have a lockring that I made to go with the icons

Yes that's where the battery is and a few other things I can't remember ( using cell not near pc to peak in real quick)
Works the same way, what you want to change in drawable-hdpi,

What all did you change in uot( and did you straight flash uot's zip or did you open and rezip it
now the voices are 3d

I think it might have to do with the status bar icons. I did checked all the icon options. Am I only supposed to choose one? Also I straight flashed the cooked zip.

if you want to zip them up and send them via dropbox i will finish the steps or if you want to try it.
download a copy of the Gapps and rename the Gapp's zip anything you want
open it with 7zip and navigate to the apps folder
(name you chose here).zip/system/apps
drag and drop your new files into that folder (these should not be signed since they are going into the system partition they do not need to be)
then exit 7zip sometimes it will ask to update the zip pick yes, then sign that whole zip file instead of just an apk, then you should be able to flash it via recovery like every other zip
I was waiting for this! Thanks for the apps! I put some more suggestions in the TwoPointThree topic, I'll edit with those in here instead.
Great work!!!

the apk's will still be inside that zip folder they just wont be signed, they get put in the system/app folder
so in order to make a blue or any other color you would make seperate zip files for each color then the user just flashes them in recovery, when you flash over one set any apk's that have the same name will be replaced (actually i think it goes on their android:id so i think it will replace them even if the apk's in the zip have different names)

(SOLVED) Need help with UOT kitchen

Is there anybody who would be willing to help me with using UOT kitchen? I would really appreciate it. Any body who has my phone the Samsung exhibit 2 4g would be best. But all are welcome.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
You're a big boy now. Use your words to express the kind of help you seek, otherwise we can only guess as to the difficulty you are having.
That first part was unnesscary. Anyways it just seems a little complicated and I don't know how the whole process works. Just two things I guess, is the theme I produce in the kitchen a rom or is it just a framework I apply and it doesn't replace the rom I'm using. And do I need to make copies of my framework and that other thing and upload it to the kitchen to make my theme?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
Your going to need two files...copy the ones you have on your phone.. system.ui.apk/framework-res.Apk...... then whem your building the theme you like you will add those last.. it will ask you to upload those.. do it...wait till the kitchen makes the theme and place it on the sd card.. flash it.....that's it.. it just adds whatever u made to your current set up your on.. either stock or a rom your on.. or theme.. it will substitute the parts you made and use those instead ...goodluck
It can also be called "SystemUI.apk" right?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
OK I did the kitchen and it worked. I have a different status bar and lock screen. Although the boot animation didn't work, probabily because of my rom.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
Are you using a ROM with TouchWiz? If so, you will need three files. Connect your phone to your comp and go into /system
From there, go to /apps and copy SystemUI.apk to the desktop. Then go back a folder and go to /framework From there, copy framework-res.apk, and if you have touchwiz, copy twframework.apk to the desktop. Upload these files to UOT when you get to that step.
Once you get the new files from UOT, save it to the desktop and open it. Delete the three previous files you copied to the desktop, then search the one you got from UOT, for the same 3 files.
Now, pay attention, and get Root Explorer or Super Manager.
Open the app of your choice that will let your explore your file system. Find the 3 same files we've been dealing with in their respective locations on your phone, using the file explorer. (after you've transfered the ones from UOT to THE ROOT of your sd card) Copy the 3 UOT files over the ones already in your phone, which you will find in their previosly disclosed locations.
Once copied, IMMEDIATELY reboot to recovery and fix permissions.
Substitute "3 files" for "2 files" if not using Touchwiz.
Hope this helped!

Also, you can just straight copy the UOT files to their respective locations in the .zip of the custom ROM you are using, and flash the ROM.
Yea I have the twframework apk in my system, does that mean its touch wiz?

yes. and follow my instructions above, or you will start to have errors. Definatel force closes.
The fact that the status bar wasn't changing could have been due to the fact that I wasn't adding my touch wiz framework?

Turns out that my phone has issues with changing the status bar color and the status bar XML file needs to be edited to actually change it. So how about a little less rudeness next time?

This message "WAS" for mendozinas but last post i found from him was in 2011. i do thank for having a kitchen like this to customize pretty much anything for my phone (p500) Optimus one. I was informed that the kitchen will not support ics based so i flashed over Slimgen 1.6.0 (android 2.3.7) i just made some themes for the rom, havent tried them yet. I did upload the Framework.res and SystemUI.apk of the rom so hopefully it will work this time. I was wondering If anyone can add my rom (well the rom im using) on the kitchen list. SlimGen 1.6.0 here is the link to download the rom itself. im sure you already know.
http://code.google.com/p/slimgen-pro...downloads/list
Regarding to Mendozinas only. (Please reply back if you recieved my message. thanks agian. i do appreciate it. I sent you a PM figuring it will get to you quicker but i realized you must have many Pm's about certain questions. So maybe this will do the trick.) Regarding to Mendozinas only.
I tried to trouble shoot myself, still in early dev mode for me (learning the ropes) but i made a copy of the rom i have and plugged in what was from the UOT file that was giving to me from the kitchen. I made a flashable zip on my desktop and place it on the root of my sdcard. Booted into recovery...flashed it but still i get the same message. Am i using a correct rom for this or what?
Im attaching the UOT file i made so if u may need to look at it its there, any info you want from me just ask, im very greatful for the help, would really like to make different themes on my phone for start then move to rom modding .
I would really like a step by step if possible so i may get this theme up and flashed on my phone so i may make different ones for future needs.
Thanks again and hopefully i will be hearing from you.
(I posted this up couples days ago. but nobody is dealing in that thread i guess, So hopefully one of you are more familiar using the kitchen then i am.) 07-30-12 date.
I hope i gave the right information to lead me into the right direction soi may start understanding how to work around such problems like this. Thanks
Welp, all's well that's ends well

Question about the uot kitchen and framework apk

I'm really confused and hoping someone can help...
I'm on rooted stock ICS... attempted to use the kitchen for some basic changes status bar icons and such.. and flashing the uot file did not work for the battery, wifi icon, or data icon... as I have done before, identify the framework APK, opened it in 7z, and added the images I wanted to use. I used root explorer to push the APK back, mounting the proper folder...
but even after wiping the cache and dalvik, the images refuse to change.
I have since extracted the APK, to verify that the images were there and everything looked right and it does. So where is ics pulling the images from that its using??
Any help would be appreciated.

Try SystemUI.apk
Not sure when they made the change to that file, but I noticed the same issues.
Interesting thing about that... When I try to upload the systemui.apk file, the kitchen kicks out an error...that sf..st..something...error...

It's been a while since I've heard anyone talk about the kitchen, and if I remember correctly, the last thing I did hear was that it didn't work/caused problems after we got updated to ICS. So maybe it just won't work at all for us anymore? Can't you just try manually swapping the images in systemUI like you did in framework-res?

Yes I'll have to try that. I guys I didn't think about it, because I did switch the images for the pattern lock screen in the framework apk, and that actually worked.
But yeah I'll give that a try..

If you find the image for the notification dropdown, I'd love to know the name. I've been wanting to make it semi-transparent on whatever ROM I install for quite some time.
Really weird. The wifi icons are in the systemui, along with the battery icons...but I can't get the data icons to change there, nor in the framework..

Note II Gallery JB Touchwiz

Update: Links at the bottom of the OP to avoid confusions.
Not my work, just got jealous of my friends Note II... So, I Did a quick search through "themes and apps" for this gallery to no avail, so i turned to my best friend google. I only tried this on the stock UCLK4 odexed rom. Don't know about any other roms and I'm loving this rom to much to try it. xD
Take the lib from here, it should be 969.24k. (root explorer)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876207
Take the apk from here, it should be 12.63mb.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006951
(Yes two threads, because I dont have permission to use/mirror the files (much to lazy to ask ( I'd rather go through more threads)))
Both files are in different flashable zips.
1. Extract them and get the lib and apk I mentioned above.
2. Use your favorite explorer (mine's root explorer) and rename secGallery2.apk to secGallery.old.
3.Do the same with the odex file of the same name. (You can delete these if the gallery is working, juat dont expect anyone to send you a file to revert)
4. Install using your explorer and change permissions on both lib and apk to rw-r-r.
5.reboot and hope it works.
My reasons for using two different files is because both didnt work (clicking on a picture resulted in FC) and I juat happen to notice all the files within are different sizes from the other. So, I experimented a bit and got it working. So far the only thing I tried doing was setting a wallpaper. It worked fine.
If anyone has a better or more efficient/convenient way, please feel free to let everyone know.

I took the liberty of mirroring the two files needed and I am in the process of getting permissions from the devs. I'll take down the links if I get a negative answer. Please express your thanks to P_toti and xator91 in the threads above.

Great find, Will try this later
Working on it for CM10 (12/11). Will report back. Thanks for this! Looks awesome.
EDIT: Can't get it to work just using the instructions from the OP. I'll keep tinkering with it though.

What do you do with the lib files now? So this is what I did, causing gallery to force close every time. I renamed the OLD gallery to ".old" and moved the new one in and set permissions. Because I couldn't figure out what to do with the lib files, I just went up one level and clicked the "lib" folder and paste it in there with the rest of the ".so" files. Then I set the permissions and reboot. What did I miss?

Did you also change the odex file to "SecGallery2.odex.old"?

It might be one of those touchwiz things where it requires touchwiz/tw launcher. It'll be great if it wasn't. Let me know if it works.

Figured it out. You installed it instead of just moving the files into system lol. And then after installing you just move the lib files into the empty" lib" folder. Good job. Works great

You can likely get the same result by just copying the files to the right place, setting the permissions correctly, then rebooting.
I've moved everything to the right places and set permissions, but the apk won't install... I'm running pacman. Thanks in advance

If you have it in the right place, with permissions set, reboot.
It might work.
Keep in mind this is based on a Stock ROM, so may not work for non-stock ROMs.

I have tried a couple reboots and fix permissions through CWM and still no luck. I also tried messing around with other stuff like other possible app conflicts with no luck. Just wondering if there were any other suggestions...I'll keep messing with it and will post any positive results. Thanks

If you don't mind using a different rom, its working on Mohan's UCLK4 Stock JB rom. Works on both odexed and deodexed versions.

Wish there was a clear way of doing this, the sizes of the apk and lib files don't match what you call for in the op, I appreciate your post but cant understand how to do this properly. Thanks

Sorry about that. Take the lib from the flashable zip in the first link and and the apk from the 2nd link. I hope that clarifies it a bit.
Edit: Updated the OP with download links at the bottom of the screenshots.
