Best battery life among all the ics roms? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi. I had installed several ICS roms, mostly different versions and variations of CM9. Since I only got a battery life of 12 hours I'm wondering if anyone found a significantly better performance on their rom. Thanks.
Or tell me that all the ics roms are hungry for battery.

Everyone is different depending on their settings and/or usage. I normally get a full day to a day and a half off of AOKPCB and AOKP ROM. Do some research to change the settings and undervolt if you have to... Battery life all depends on how the user has the ROM setup.

This is the best I have gotten, this was running NunHugger's UniPorn build 37 I believe. I have enjoyed his ROM.. good battery life, good stability.
This was with light to moderate use, no wifi, sync set for max interval, no gps.
But I got almost THREE DAYS!!! On average I get about a day out of it with moderate to heavy use.

Use better battery stats to track down battery hogs.
It allowed me to "fine tune" my battery and i saw immediate improved results.

I started using Better Battery stats from today.
How can I fine tune, my battery using this. What I need to check in this app, and what should I do later. Please guide me.
TIA.

Read the following thread for more info about Better Battery Stats:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
It gives a pretty good breakdown of what you are looking at, and looking for.
Basically it will show you all your wakelocks, which would prevent your phone from going into deep sleep. Some are easy to track down, others are a little more difficult. The dev of the app is also really helpful with looking over logs and helping track down unnecessary wakelocks.
For me, hotmail, weather widgets, facebook, use network for location and my data usage tracking app were the biggest battery hogs. I've since set up my email to sync only when i tell it, instead of auto-sync. Set the weather widgets to update at the max interval. Uninstalled facebook app, cause i don't have a facebook. and turned off use network for location .
But my data usage tracker (my data manager app) has a feature of "persistant notification". It is to keep a more accurate record of my data usage, but the tradeoff is that my number of wakelocks come mostly from this app. I'm currently looking for a data usage app that doesn't cause so many wakelocks.
If I know I'm not going to use my phone for a bit, I will turn data off. I also have my phone set to turn off wifi when locked. I have to wait for a few seconds for it to connect again, but it's not a big deal. I also turn off the phone's auto sync and background data, in the settings menu. I usually sync them about once a week or so.
So, the app doesn't do any "fine tuning". It just tells you what's keeping your phone up, using battery. The "fine tuning" comes from you.
I hope that helps

Thanks skyliner33v , for detailed explanation.
I will check my wakelocks.

RemICS-UX is the best
I installed RemICS ROM and believe me with all the apps I have installed I find the battery life awesome with high quality graphics....

Dark Knight Rom ICS . since its black and white it saves up a lot of battery

I have try around 5 roms and Emacipation has the best battery life imo.

emancipation is a GB rom, not ICS.
so far all ICS roms have been brutal, especially for standby usage.
My phone just died with under 30 mins of screen on time because of standby drain. No rogue apps, no wakelocks, no poor reception, nothing.

I find joy in Paranoid-Android rom, its worked great for me. I get all day battery life and very few fc's!

JB's kernel with OC/UV has given me good battery life.

JB's rom used to be perfect in battery life, until my installing apps the battery life drained to 12h, it's pretty awkward that I need to swap the battery at least sometime a day since my up time is about 17 hours.
It does not make a significant difference between standby and usage. The 100% battery before I sleep usually drop to 70-80% when I wake up.

Upgrade from Eclair to Serendipity(Froyo) Battery Doesn't Last

I've viewed many posts on battery life on xda but I still don't know why my battery doesn't last even when I am not using it.
I disabled wifi/gps location, disabled facebook/twitter widgets and any other logical power usage. After that I powered it up to 100% and after two hours with no usage the battery dropped 15%. I installed an app which will let me know in a day or so which apps are sucking the life out of my battery.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks

You might have flashed it when your battery wasn't full?
try recalibrating the battery?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765656&highlight=calibrate
That doesn't always help. I had the same issue with Serendipity. It is a good ROM but for me it just killed my battery. It was mostly draining during sleep periods which it should not. I have had issues with OC/UV kernels and I just decided to switch ROM's rather than try another kernel. Nothing wrong with the ROM for me other than battery drain, which is an issue between phones from what I have seen.
try firefly + speedmod kernal
give it a few days to settle in after 2-3 days use my battery life had improved tremendously
Since flashing to Serendipity my battery life has just about doubled from ~6 hours to more than 12 hours of heavy use.
I use WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth continuously with very little3G data or voice communications.
I never use the media player or the camera.
Try the Di11igaf's 5.1 rom. The battery is amazing for me. Just flash the rom at 100% and then recalibrate and set clock at 100mhz and uv at 50 75 75 100 125 125 (1280 to 100mhz)

Agreed. I believe it's user error.
The culprit was wifi, as it would randomly connect to a network and some apps started to sync. I"ll try to recalibrate the battery and disable wifi for a day and see how my battery lasts.

[Q] Best battery life?

Hi,
I just recently bought my Inspire and rooted/s-off/eng s-off.
I flashed Android Revolution and I can't stand that I can't have my phone for more than 6 hours before 15% battery.
Is there any other ROMs that have better battery life? I'd rather have something like an optimized stock, but I really would love better battery life.
If you're wondering, I don't do a lot on my phone--just music, texting, and mild web. No video, and some e-mail.
Thanks~
For me, CM7 has better battery life than AR.
It's AOSP though so no sense. Though honestly I don't miss sense at all. In my experience the only feature that sense has over stock is the dialer and camera.
How long were you using Revolution? ROM's need some time to even out in the OS. At first they'll rip through the battery like nobodys business. Also, did you reset the battery stats? I'm pretty sure that is in the Revolutions FAQs. I could be wrong though. Also, the ROM in my sig is a great one to try. He also had a sense version if that's your bag.
Phone Battery usage statistics
I flashed CoreDroid V5.1 two days ago, and i'm sad to say i'm experiencing similar DISMAL battery performance. I've ran specific tests on it all day today, and this is what i have seen thus far:
08:12 - 95% - Airplane mode ON
09:46 - 91%
11:32 - 86%
12:30 - 83% - Airplane mode OFF
13:27 - 73%
14:33 - 62% - Airplane mode ON
16:30 - 44%
These stats were taken with the phone NOT IN USE. The screen was off and it was sitting on my desk. So, as you can see from the list above:
with AIRPLANE MODE ON - a loss of ~3-4% per hour
with AIRPLANE MODE OFF - a loss of ~10% per hour!
This is patently ridiculous!
When airplane mode is on and the phone is not in use, it should be basically on standby, using maybe a percent every hour or two.
When airplane mode is off, 10% /per hour?! That is just INSANE! No WONDER i can't get until even 7pm before my phone is dead!
If it can be determined what is sucking down the battery with Airplane Mode ON, and that 3-4% is eliminated, then the phone should have no problem lasting >14 hours.
(As a note, i saw similar performance before i rooted, so it's not just the ROM)
Moved as not android development.
I don't know if it's just how Sense works, but whenever I view the Applications in Settings, ALL my apps are running, ALL the time.
I don't remember it being the case with my Captivate, though..
Charge your battery till it completely charged. Turn the phone off and boot into ClockMod Recovery. Wipe the battery stats and hopefully that should help with the battery.

If i leave my phone alone over night while i sleep after 8 hours it will be at 93/94%.
Download an app called CurrentWidget. It will tell you how much your battery is being used.
Remember to enable logging so you can check the log latter on your sd card .
With my phone idle I normally get ~3mA or less per minute with spikes of ~160mA once an hour or so.
The max "Screen On" time is about 2 hours per charge.
There is also an app called Traffic Monitor Widget to see how much data each app is using.
These may help you understand what your battery drains so fast.

I dunno really. I just took two more screen caps from today. Just my general days usage. I've had the phone for only a week now so I expect the battery to break in a bit more like my nexus did. I was a bit worried about the battery life and this thing lasting me throughout the day but I have been impressed so far. I never even used it with the stock ROM so I can't compare, I dislike Sense.
I've been off the charger for 13hours. I'm at 50% with 1h10min screen on time too. I've had mine for about two weeks now.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G
I'm running coredroid 5.1 and I fail to see that I'm loosing 10% an hour. Here's how my day was in battery faintly remembering. Woke up at 9:30 took of charger and left for work by 10. From then to I say around 1 I had around 90% only cause I was messing with my build.prop so I was restarting my phone like 20 times doing some test. Also I was ebbing a lot to look for info on what I was doing. And near the end of work around 5 I had even been playing music and games. And was around the 60% I wanna say in the high 60% I played with my phone a lot today and as of right now the same day I'm talking about I'm at 44% and been on my phone like crazy even rebooted a few times again. From what I have been doing to my phone I highly don't see how u could loose so much battery. So from now 10 to to 8 I'm at 44% that 10 hours I was playing with my phone like crazy.
Tips. Use recommended radio's. Charge to 100% clear battery bin. Also give it a few days for the Rom to get built in a little bit. also go download frail CPU its free. It'll help you save some juice when screen is off. Hope this helped.

thats because your phone is sitting in standyby 90% of the time. I've never checked my battery use and NOT had display at the very top using at least 50%. Its not wonder your battery life is great
I have been on many Roms but cm7 rc4 is the best for me. I get about 18 hrs of life with normal usage and gaming. I think Sense is the culprit on other ROMS. Also the free memory on cm7 is 200mb more than on Sense. And this is 90% of the time for me.
Inspired from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
I don't think you can beat miui. Pulling 1-4 per min. Of all the roms, I tried this is the best. Ginger with OC kernels too.

If your talking about mA per minute. I get that with my non rooted inspire.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G
I have noticed something funny about the battery stats on different ROMs. In particular, on CM7, I would never get display as using more than about 10%. On the other hand, when I am running stock rooted ROM, my display always uses about 60%. This is all with similar usage patterns and similar brightness settings. What is going on there I wonder?
I have also never seen my display less than 40%! Even today.
Attached are screen caps of my usage, based on what was happening earlier.
So lets see, display was on 1 hour out of 15 hours. And that = 40%. yea. i call bull****.
Thank you to all for your suggestions thus far. I will try them all out and report back what i have found!
I am heaving very good battery life with CorDroid 5.1 But I also had good battery life with Rev roms. When I am in a fringe service area I switch to GSM only and it more than doubles my battery life with the radio I am using. If I dont need the high speed I leave it off if it is not a strong signal.

Battery drain

Hi I have HTC Sensation, and 1,5 ghz kernel, dar forest rom. And I calibrate battery, and I am after few cycles, becouse some says that after flashing new rom, u must wait a couple o cycle to battery to be good. And my battery last about 19 hour with about 3,5 hour screen on. Is it good or bad, and what can I do if its bad
Hi,
If you are using a data plan and sync data, try increasing the frequency interval or use manual sync. Saves Battery.
Good or bad?
But, how do you guys think is it good battery life, medium or bad?

I'd agree with average. One thing you can do is install 'CurrentWidget' from the Android market and place the widget on your homescreen. Change the refresh interval to 10 seconds, turn the screen off and then wait around a minute for the phone to settle. After a while, turn the screen on again and look at the reading the widget gives. It should be around 3-5mA (that's what I get on my HD2). If it isn't you may want to try turning off different wireless things and anything you think may cause high battery drain. Turning off background data is a MUST, you have to turn it back on to use the market but with background data off I get 3-5mA whilst with it on I get around 20mA. It doesn't stop you using data, just turns off some unnecessary syncing. Despite the pathetic 1230 mah battery in my HD2, I can easily use it for a whole school day (including music on the way to school and gaming for about 20 mins before registration) and have around 40% left by the end of the day. I charge it every night anyway but it's reassuring to know it can last me that extra day if I need it. Hope this helps

Try using wifi as often as possible. Also 3g is a much better battery saver than using WiMAX. Also the Tiamat SBC 4.1.0 kernerl is amazing on saving battery life! And it even works with the ICS roms.
19 hours of battery life sounds reasonable to me considering that the sensation is a dual core phone.

Oh and by the way I've recently come across articles that actually say recalibrating (wiping battery stats) your battery doesn't actually do much.
I'd rather try to avoid over charging to prolong your battery life (pull out the charger as soon as it touches 100%) and try to use it til you're out of juice instead of constantly charging.

Battery drains has many situation, as little information you provide, it's hard to figure out how and what makes this happened.
Maybe you can check how many apps running on the background, or services still running while shouldn't run.
Or, tell you what, you also can flash your ROM to a stable one like ARHD's rom.

Bad battery life on AOSP ROMs

I can leave my phone next to my bed without touching it and lose 10% battery. On HyperNonSense i can not lose a single percent. This happens on CM9 and AOKP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordan
Run it down fully a couple of times, see if it helps.
Did this happen soon after you flashed the ROM?
If yes, this is mostly due to the battery needing calibration (Fully charge your battery, boot the phone in recovery, unplug phone, erase battery stats, discharge your phone completely then charge it up again to 100%, and after that it should be better, and after one or two more cycles it should be even better).
Otherwise, it is probably your kernel forcing the CPU to run at max clock all the time, so check, if you use SetCPU or another app like this, if it is not set on max clock, or try flashing a new kernel, but even then a battery calibration always helps.
Do you leave the screen on the highest setting? Also, did you overclock it?
maybe you should go into recovery with a 100% charge and bwipe battery stats, because I'm using hyper sensation and my battery life is amazing compared to when I had the stock t mobile rom

How many days do you use the ROM to arrive at these conclusions.
Only after the first full discharge (~ 10%) turned off the device and charge it Off.

You might want to try a few things such as :
- set brightness to a fixed and low value
- inactivate WiFi search even if WiFi if off (advanced parameters)
- use wavelocks detectors to identify draining apps or process (localisation and Facebook app are two good candidates)

AFAIK AOSP based ROMs will always perform worse than Sense based ROMs due to the HTC battery management being closed source. Hyper-nonsense still has HTC files under the hood hence why the battery lasts longer. When using CM10.1 my battery would last me about 10 to 13 hours without me hardly touching the phone, with Hyper-nonsense or De-sensed elegencia it would easily last over 24 hours. On Viper 5.0.0 I got 1 day 15 hours 13m and 24s with 15% charge left out of the bad by once.
I can't explain it, but , with Kernel ION 50->52.5 All latest KitKat ROMS Builds seems to act good

hey sandy well a game like that will pull battery life I play a game called zombie smash and it pulls battery fast just cause the game, and games in generally but I would say best way to test your battery is just not play a game for a couple hours or w.e and see what it does. For me with a similar rom and kernel at 100% I use pandora or google music to play my songs for about an hour or so and with in that hour I would check facebook, send a text or even check xda and with all that my battery would drain about 10% but thats a lot of activity to drain so its damn good and when I leave for work ill listen to music with google music and be at work for 8 hrs and with some texting and facebook battery drains maybe 5-7% by the end of my day with all that activities I would have about aprox 75%
But,even on Idle hours i.e., from 22:00 to 07:00 the drop is from 82 to 64%.At this time the phone is just active on data network,is this reasonable..18% drop in 8 idle hours?

Hi all,
I have been facing a very high drain on my Inspire.
ROM:IceColdSandwich-8.1.AOKP
Kernel:2.6.35.14-LordmodUE-9.8.8-ICS-BFS
I even flashed KillerSLoth Scripthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305236 LordModUV-Lite
I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226016&highlight=battery+calibration but still my stats doesn't look promising.
From 12:13 to 12:31 i.e., in 10min i face a battery drain of 20%. Is it expected behavior or i am just facing it.
BTW,In that 10min i was playing a game named Death Rally.

Game play will drain battery. Its normal, it be different if you were losing that without using phone. Also try latest IceCold 8.2. Also as mentioned above our batteries suck.

upgraded to IceColdSandwich - 8.2 - AOKP and played the same game again for 10min.Guess what?
This time the battery drain is just 4%
Very pleased,
I think this is the problem with stability of rom's why coz i used to play this game from many days. It's only the other day that i had worst battery life.
May be while on Inspire i shouldn't complain about battery life.
I also observerd that, while charging my device after 81% it suddenly jumps to 100%.Is this natural or i am only facing this problem?
If you don't believe me,pls see the log file.
Same thing happened to me on another rom, from 94% to 100%. It is odd but the drainage seemed normal so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Keep in mind there will come a time the battery will stop working, it's called aging.

I Had this Problem too (same rom)
I switched to Android Revolution HD. It has fixed the problem so far...later i will switch backk (maybe) to see if this fixed it.
usually you have to delete the old battery stats and go through a drain and charge cycle for a couple of days to fix it.
What i did is i bought 2 extra batteries off amazon and i always have 2 fully charged. My system works out great because i pretty much have double battery life

OK I'm on MIUI v4 now.
To fix your problem you have to go get a battery calibration app from Google play. Most of the apps will ring when you have really reached the actual 100% charge. Then press the calibrate button. Unplug. And done.

Flashed a brand new ROM(Sabsa Prime v6.0) with wiping every thing, even wiped battery stats. But nothing changed to be honest. My battery doesn't give 1 day backup also.BTW,I do lot of chatting on whatsapp,is it why my battery life is bad?
