I can leave my phone next to my bed without touching it and lose 10% battery. On HyperNonSense i can not lose a single percent. This happens on CM9 and AOKP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordan
Run it down fully a couple of times, see if it helps.
Did this happen soon after you flashed the ROM?
If yes, this is mostly due to the battery needing calibration (Fully charge your battery, boot the phone in recovery, unplug phone, erase battery stats, discharge your phone completely then charge it up again to 100%, and after that it should be better, and after one or two more cycles it should be even better).
Otherwise, it is probably your kernel forcing the CPU to run at max clock all the time, so check, if you use SetCPU or another app like this, if it is not set on max clock, or try flashing a new kernel, but even then a battery calibration always helps.
Do you leave the screen on the highest setting? Also, did you overclock it?
maybe you should go into recovery with a 100% charge and bwipe battery stats, because I'm using hyper sensation and my battery life is amazing compared to when I had the stock t mobile rom
I have been using ViperROM for almost a year and my Anker 1900mAh battery performs excellently. It gives me day and a half on moderate use while at least 24 hours on heavy use (keep wifi on all the time). But I do like to try AOSP roms and whenever I have flashed an aosp rom, battery life has always disappointed me. It hardly gives me 14 to 15 hours on slight use.
Is there a way to get at least a day on moderate use on aosp rom? I'm currently using android1234567's CM11 with sultan r52 kernel and i would love to use it for few months.
Does anyone else Any idea?
My settings:
Screen Brightness: Auto
CPU Max: 1512Mhz
I am using ViperS 5.0 and i must say it gives me better battery life that AOSP ROM's.

How many days do you use the ROM to arrive at these conclusions.
Only after the first full discharge (~ 10%) turned off the device and charge it Off.
then give us a report

Yeahh i'm totally right with you, ViperS do not need to calibrate battery... I think AOSP NEED IT ONCE

I have benn using android1234567's CM11 with r52 kernel for almost a week now. I have recharged it to 100% after a full dicharge twice. Still the same results. Something is consuming the battery even when the screen is off.
You might want to try a few things such as :
- set brightness to a fixed and low value
- inactivate WiFi search even if WiFi if off (advanced parameters)
- use wavelocks detectors to identify draining apps or process (localisation and Facebook app are two good candidates)

AFAIK AOSP based ROMs will always perform worse than Sense based ROMs due to the HTC battery management being closed source. Hyper-nonsense still has HTC files under the hood hence why the battery lasts longer. When using CM10.1 my battery would last me about 10 to 13 hours without me hardly touching the phone, with Hyper-nonsense or De-sensed elegencia it would easily last over 24 hours. On Viper 5.0.0 I got 1 day 15 hours 13m and 24s with 15% charge left out of the bad by once.
I can't explain it, but , with Kernel ION 50->52.5 All latest KitKat ROMS Builds seems to act good
now i got this
Same with me.
Had terrible battery life with Sultan's KitKat. Try Albino's , battery's far better...

That's quite difficult to say since we all know viper is the battery killer.I have a 2years old sensation. I used viper for more than 6 months and I was like "damn! throw this off." Now i'm using AOSP and It's just what i was looking for. ::victory:
are you serious? it gives atleast 30 minutes screen on time and a lot better on standby. and customisations are endless.
So many mods to apply. Nothing can be better on my senny than AOSP!

Hi there,
I am currently running on HTC stock rom with 2.3.4 but currently considering applying a custom ROM to get better battery mileage (i.e. more hours).
I see that all custom roms mention that one should get better battery usage because they have applied some optimizations. But is this real?
What I have understand so far is that battery life varies for every user because everybody uses the phone different with different applications (probably there aren't 2 phones with the same configuration) so any benchmarks are meaningless...
But... If you have used the stock rom and moved to a custom rom , what is your experience did battery life improve? I am assuming that you continued to use the phone in a similar way...
Currently I get between 12-16h hours on my stock rom, what should I expect if I move to custom ROM?
Currently considering moving to Android Revolution HD 3.6.3 XE.
Before being flamed, I looked and searched for the answer to this question but could not get any answer...
Thanks
for me the experience has been reverse... when on stock rom, i get better battery life but when i use custom roms I get worst battery...
Currently running Sense 3.5 and it has something really annoying with battery.. sometimes it would stick at 100% for one hour and then when i start using it for 10 mins it would come down by 20% in no time...
With ARHD 3.6.3 my battery would take too long to charge but with sense 3.5 it takes half the time to charge...
So using custom Roms you will never figure out how ur battery works..

This is misleading as this might be your experience but not everyone's.
I get excellent battery life with Sense 3.5 and I don't get any bad battery readings either.

My battery life improved noticeably with a custom rom. However, when you get a custom rom, you usually also pair it with an overclocked kernel which ups the speed but also reduces battery life a bit.
I'm running ARHD 4.1.3 with faux's kernel running at 1.5ghz and am still getting better battery life then stock. I can use my phone for a full day, not charge it at night, and then still be able to last to about just after lunch time the next day. With the stock kernel, battery life was even better but the phone was also slower.
There are a lot of settings that you can tweak to try and conserve battery life. I keep bluetooth and gps off, and I think that using the GSM antenna only instead of both GSM/CDMA helps, stuff like that.

really? I never got anywhere near close to that. Best was about 6 hours if I used the phone for anything other than talking.
I am currently on the revolution 3.6.3 XE rom and I can't stop smiling. I get a bout a good 8 hours of usuable (xm streaming, surfing, gaming and some slingbox as I have a hour commute each way every day) and about 10 hours with little to no activity. Light years from where I was. I have tried quite a few roms, but this one is a keeper. Try it

+1 on that. My battery life was horrible on CM7. I tried everything to fix from other kernels, radios and every battery calibration tip, tool and app. I just went back to stock. I was dropping 6-7% battery life while my phone was in standby. If the phone was in airplane mode it was fine. I also tried turning off wi-fi but that didn't help.
I get better battery life using the latest IC Rom. Not a heavy user, a few calls, few texts, 10 +/- emails, decent amount of web and twitter use though, little gaming. Take it off charger at 7am, and when I put it back at 11pm, I usually have 30%-40% of my battery still left.
I am using CM7 alpha9, which is very far from being release-quality. I had thought it was doing very well - 6 hours and still at 80%. But then I had a phone call drop using WiFi Calling, and I had to reboot to regain the use of the dialer. I was at 20% after reboot...
I noticed a huge difference with Revolution HD (no-sense script) compared to the stock ROM.
Very happy with the switch.
Best I got with ARHD and a stock 1.2 Ghz kernel was 1 day, 5 hours, and the best Ive had with ARHD and Faux kernel was about 12 hours.
Typically I was seeing about 8-10 hours with ARHD and Faux kernels. I just decided to try bricked last night so I cant really report too much, although today looks really good so far. I'm already at 10 hours 20 mins as I type this with 30% left. Typically I would be plugging my phone in after work getting in the car on the way home with the Faux kernel. I just flashed this kernel last night so it hasnt even "settled in" yet. Both non-stock kernels are running OC at 1.5 Ghz.
~T.J.
A lot of times people forget when flashing roms and such is to clear the battery stats, this will increase battery by a surprising amount.
When people flash New roms they don't wipe battery stats and that's why there battery life sucks. And yeah sometimes it is the Rom and or the way they use there phone.

Perfomance is better, but the main reason is Sense 3.5. I cant say it effected battery life badly.
CM7 has excellent battery savings.
Before i say anything, This thread is not to decide which rom is the best or the worst. I just want to gather a thread with people achieving the best battery life. + Respect for all devs
Back onto the topic before i get posts saying you'll get flamed , What guys are you mixed together to achieve best battery life? Im a really moderate user and am achieving 8 hours max. I have tried pretty much everything. I usually play 1-2 hours games, feed my facebook addiction in total for 1 hour, check xda for 15 minuets and check my time every 30 minuets on average. Some people achieve mad battery life, like 2 days with 40% left . Havent seen that since the golden i9000 days.
SO guys, Post the following
Radio
ROM (Neccesary, but wont determine the best rom in any way shape or form)
Kernel (Same about ROM)
Usage
and screenshot of battery use for proof.
Cheers guys and i am sure people are looking for good battery life other than me.
UPDATE: Ok, so I flashed android revolution HD and I was looking at the better battery life thread. It was in the desire HD forum soo... yea. Anyway, a normal drain for them is 3-8mA whilst the lowest drain I have got is 110mA. We have a dual core phone but shouldn't that only increase twice or 3x? Not 10x? That is weird. If you leave sense and move onto cm7 you get even a bigger drain. Right now this phone battery life is doomed until we get a bugless aosp rom.
I want to find this out too

Been covered before, A LOT.
Due to personal circumstances, such as location, reception strength, network type, being inside/outside the building, different use of wifi, different perception of heavy/moderate/light use by an individual, it is not possible to come to an agreement what bundle is best for EVERYONE.
I know it doesn't help, but that's the truth.
This is a really good idea and I hope it takes off and does good. Just to inform the webstar1 some ROMs will get better our worse battery life depending on if it is a Sense ROM or a Non Sense ROM And it will depend on other factors too such as what services are left in to run in the background and things of that nature. Plus the kernel has a big roll in battery life so making note of them will be very important. The individual user will have a lot to do with battery life too. I say this not because of how much someone talks on the phone or uses their phone. But because using things like task managers regular, not using Bluetooth, not using GPS, and turning WiFi off when you are not in near a WiFi location will help conserve battery greatly too.
Now for my contributio. To the thread I am still using the stock ROM for my daily driver. The battery life on it is like speratic as hell. When I first got my Sensation the battery life was fairly good, but now it can last up to 6 or 7 hours with normal to heavy usage. Or it can only last as short as 3 hours with normal to heavy usage. The worst I have had so far was one day I took it off charge at full charge and all I did was make a 5 minute phone call and stay on XDA for like 30 minutes and 2 hours and 40 minutes later my battery was on 16%. I don't have any screen shots to post but I will try to take some to add here later

I disagree with you. Finding out how people achieve those 2 days will gove us not the same but similar results. So yes, it can potentially be the best for EVERYONE since some people only get 3 to 4 hours with moderate use. And i havent seen a single thread which focuses what combination results in the best battery life for your sensation

Moderate usage - 12h+.
Low usage - 24h.
I find this to be more than acceptable, but it's only so because I use Chichitec batteries.
On stock battery it was 7-8h with moderate usage, but I did basically kill that battery with all the testing I did for the touchscreen fix :\
Anyway, that’s on ARHD 3.6 and Bricked kernel, with Sense mostly removed and JuiceDefender for mobile data.
And I do recommend Anker/Chichitec batteries. They are so cheap that it doesn’t matter if they make a difference in battery life or not. The point is you have a spare in your pocket

Using EddyOS stock rooted ROM v4...
Its 2.3.5 with sense 3.5
Radio is latest 10.58
Its stock kernel with no tweaks,no underclockings and no task killers..
You can check everything about ROM here..

More Details in usage:
On battery: 15 hrs 27 mins
Display on time : 5 hrs 43 mins ( 90% time it was on lowest brightness)
Voice calls: 39 mins
Wifi: 4 hrs 32 mins (90% time i did Web browsing)
No video streaming, no games, no data, no GPS
In picture you can see my signals cut out frequently..3% time it was No signals. Remaining you can see i get low signals.(2-3 bars) 50% of the time. if i had good reception, i could have got a much better battery life..
For me i would say i got atleast 30% improvement than stock battery...
Fair enough. What I'm saying is that threads like this have been created before with not much result. Good luck to making it work, but I'm sceptic about it.

Anker battery about a month and half old now, various ROMs but between trip's MIUI and the formal MIUI as i prefer over sense.
Exchange service on push, gmail service on hourly, so heavy email, reasonable texting (10-15 a day), no games, wifi if i am in the office or home and some web browsing/maps and ym usually also. Full day (24 hours) easily, sometimes a little more or if i have flashed anything and done the obligatory benchmark maybe just under 24hrs before i see it hit 10%.
I like to use Cpu tuner and modify the screen off to drop cpu way low, extreme powersave to use 2G (though its not always successful at setting it) only and thats about it. Also careful with the auto brightness settings..as screen is always the biggest drain especially if its over bright.
24hrs with some small charge left is my benchmark before i will use it as a daily.
How do you guys get goods battery timings with trips Miui or the Miui ROM in development section here?
Whenever i install that ROM my phone starts to warm up like hell... Its with fresh flashing without any applications installed...

Yes i think the 2.3.4 sense are very very good performance wise now. 2.3.5 probably just a bit under. But i dont have any warming issues on the MIUI Roms and Trip's with Bricked 1.5 has been solid the last 2 versions - quite excellent i think. I'm back on Scott's today to give it a go but its looking like i will be at about 20hours max (stock kernel) with very little email today..but both are well workable for me.
On Sense ROMs (either 3.0 or 3.5) I used to manage 20 hours (max), switched to CTDroid's Reverted AOSP V1.1.0 ROM with Bricked Kernel v1.4 (192 - 1536 OnDemand), I've just recorded 1 Day 3hrs
Thinking about getting Anker Battery and seeing how that performs?
(Still got to change my sig!!!!)
On Hypersensation I could get about 15-18 hours on moderate usage, with my 1900MAh battery, but I switched back to Android Revolution HD today with Bricked kernel 1.5, because I love sense
Will post screenshot of my battery stats later on.
was looking for a bigger battery, this battery is bigger and cheaper than anker battery, has anyone used this?

So, I was using kang's cm9 for a while now, and the the battery messed up something - it turned off while still having half battery displayed, and wouldn't turn on till charging began. I remember from other roms, there was a config file we used to delete when stuff like this happened. Does anyone know which battery file would that be in CM9 Kang?
What are you running Kernel-wise? Faux with DS driver? Otherwise, boot to CWM and under advanced wipe battery stats. Which Kang are you using?
First off, if you're using Faux's DS kernel then that means you were actually out of battery since the DS kernel has bad battery readings. Make sure you're on the fourth update (selfkang3).

I've been using the newest KANG for a while now, and the battery life is significantly better than CM7 was. Ah ha! Find a post from the 20th or the 21st and get SelfKANG3 it has auto brightness and that may help you with general battery life, as far as the odd readings have you wiped battery stats? The funky battery stats are only for Faux's DS kernel, and dang, 30% a night is not right, on GB I only lose about a % per hour I sleep, so 8% overnight.

thank you Wolf. I did update to SK3, altough the fixed bugs were not very big
I could live without the auto brightness. they should fix the video first, that's my main wish. But I recognize all the hard work they put, kudos. Imagine the world without devs.
Пажалуйста, yea, the bug fixes aren't huge, but the auto brightness will help with the battery drain. Another "trick",.Which I picked up from someone else, is to create a profile in Set CPU so that the.clock speed is minimal when your screen is off.

probably a stupid question, but how do you calibrate your battery, I've been somewhat disappointed lately in my battery life.

The easiest way is to download the battery calibration app off Google Play and follow the instructions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd
or do it manually through CWM recovery.
1. Fully charge your battery.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Go to Advanced->Wipe Battery Stats and reboot.
4. Recommended to let your battery fully discharge and then fully recharge without break
5. Profit.
i calibrated my battery, so hopefully it increases the battery life! i would still like rom/kernel combo recommendations though thanks!
Kalim´s CM9 NIGHTLY 20120310 has amazing battery life with standard kernel. Much better then any ROM before.

If you want GB i recommend Oxygen and for ICS Codename Android.

Don't measure you battery life in terms of time since last charge. Measure it in terms of on-screen time.
2-3 hours of ON SCREEN TIME is average battery life.
I can roughly get about 4-5 hours if my brightness is down to level 6 (using brightness levels.) In my opinion the ROM doesn't really affect the battery life at all. Mainly the kernel you are using, scheduler, govenor, maximum frequency etc. I recommend using the Matr1x kernel as bedalus has tested that it uses the least amount of power of all kernels under similar conditions.
15 hours,1d, 8hrs since last charge ~ all don't mean a thing since your phone shouldn't drop any significant amount of percentage during DEEP SLEEP. When your phone is ON (screen on) that is when your battery should deplete.
If I leave my phone overnight for about 10 hours, I would drop maybe 1%. That's because the screen wasn't on; no activity needed significant power.
My on screen time is 3-4 hours, last time I checked. The crazy stuff is when my phone screen is off. Last night I went to bed for 9 hours battery was at 85. Woke up at 84. Two nights ago I went to bed for 10 hours with 90%. Woke up at 90%. I've never had such great off screen profiles. I'm going to calibrate the battery today and hope for something better.

Hi all,
I brought my HTC Sensation z710e about 14 months ago, and I'm a pretty heavy user, so battery life took a hit.
After about 8-9 months i got 4-5 hours screen on time on the stock battery. About 7 hrs heavy usage. I tried formatting the phone, and kept an eye on battery abusive wake locks, but to no avail.
To rectify that I've tried various roms (Elegencia 4, VipersS 1.6, Albinomans CM 10.1) among a few and also tried undervolting the phone. Nothing.
Then about a month ago, I brought a 1900mAh Anker battery which according to a lot of XDA threads is the problem solver for all battery issues.
I've been using that battery with Albinomans rom, and I have tried wiping battery stats to ensure the battery starts from a clean slate, but still I get barely 7 hrs, far from the promised 2days.
That leads me to conclude that something is wrong with my setup. And having tried many roms and kernels, formatting my phone and doing most other stuff suggested on the XDA threads, I cant work out whats wrong.
If it is a hardware issue, is there any way of finding out what it is, and what would be the way to rectify.
Any help would be higly appreciated
(although I've been and rooting and playing around with my phone for abt 3months now, this is my first thread on XDA. It may be a little unorganised in the way its written. If i've left any info out plz let me know. Thanx)

hello, if you use many applications that constantly require the 3G part of your mobile , it is quite normal ...
With my stock battery, i'm about 20hours and more but if i play games for a long time it's normal that battery drops.
I even think that you can be happy that your battery takes 7 hours using it a lot.
Try these CPU settings :
Governor Lazy or Badass
Min : 384Mhz or 432Mhz
Max : uses frequencies between 932 to 1188Mh
When u change ROM try to wipe battery stats before first start
Before u change the Kernel, make a Full Kernel Reset. Flash new Kernel

This part all rings true. You cannot measure the battery life by how long you go between charges. That's almost irrelevant information because if ti's set up properly the phone will use very minimal battery when the screen is off.
The proper way to measure the battery life is by how much screen on time you get plus phone talk time between charges. With an Anker on Albino's CM10.1 ROM that should be 3 to 5 hours depending on a few other things. If that 3 to 5 hours happens all at once, then you'll need to recharge in 3 to 5 hours. If you use it sparingly over 2, 3, or ever 4 days before you've use it for a total of 3 to 5 hours, then it'll last that long between charges.
The 2 things that use the battery are the screen's backlight and the cell radio. Those two things are the battery users. Bluetooth and Wifi are too. But theoretically you're not using bluetooth or wifi unless you are talking on a call or having the screen on. So you can still measure by the scren on plus talk time. And if you use bluetooth and wifi a lot your total use will be closer to 3 hours than 5 hours.

This part is not true. It has no effect on anything. And when you install any ROM the battery stats are going to get wiped anyway because you are replacing the entire contents of the system directory.
No amount of wiping battery stats, calibrating batteries, or any of that mumbo jumbo is going to help. It's all snake oil.
Also keep in mind that you do need to give a new ROM 3 to 5 full charge and discharge cycles before you really see what the battery life is like. If you're jumping from ROM to ROM every day to test battery life you'll never get an honest look at what batter life is like on any of them.
Kernel
Thanx very much,
Any suggestions on what JB kernel to use??

On albino's ROM? You only have 2 options. The one that comes with it, which is perfectly fine. Or SultanKernel, which isn't terribly different. But the install process of sultan gives you more configuration options.
