[Q] Battery Life - Motorola Atrix 2

Ive been using Lithium v1.2.1 and recently flashed to 1.3 and i have been experiencing worse battery life than i had on the stock rom...any roms any of you have used that have outstanding battery life?

Didn't realize v3 was out. I'll flash tonight and see if I experience any issues...

give it a few charge cycles. often the battery stats are just screwed up after a new rom. If it is still bad in a few days, then something may be wrong.

Okay, so I've been running Lithium v1.3 for several weeks now, and even with an added overclock and other tweaks, I still have pretty darn good battery life with moderate to heavy usage. I can get a full day's charge running at 1.25 GHz and emailing/texting/calling/gaming throughout the day. Just updating concerns from the OP with my own experiences while running this awesome rom! :good:

you haven't mentioned how many hrs you got in stock or how much less you getting in other ROMs
I am using stock ROM, 55% is enuf for me to go 12hrs which includes 4hrs of whatsapp, 2-3 hrs of gaming, continous gprs usage, 2 hrs of wifi tethering . a fullcharge once gave me 24hrs plus... I am very happy with the stock ROM

do u have a extended battery or have underclock ur processor ....cause seriously i doubt thats even a possible figure lol with 1500mah battery my lg optimus one was running just 7 hours before it died.....with totally heavy usage
what game where u running ....was it some heavy game like nova ...dead space or small time killer??
cause when i play dead space for 2 hours my battery drip to 50% from 100% on stock rom with gprs on

no extended battery for me, i just bought the phone a week back. no extra accessories.. just stock ROM, stock phone and stock charger/battery.
the game i played for 2-2,5hrs was stick cricket, then i played Extreme Skating and Pro Zombie Soccer for 30 min. Today i played Sims 3 for an hour and that took 10% of my battery. I switched on Mobile Hotspot in my phone and used its GPRS on my laptop(tethered) for an hour, that also took 9-10%.
btw, my prev phone was an LG OP1 . Let me know if you want me to check anything else.

than i gues i have issues with battery ....what a coincidence even i got my atrix 2 a week back.....though it was a replacement

We use tekahuna's milestone overclock modules for overclocking.
Changing the cpu speed involves echoing the desired table entry into the /proc/overclock/mpu_opps entry as root.
ie:
Code:
echo 3 1250000000 1375000 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
3 would be cpu slot 3 (3 is the highest on the atrix 2 typically set to 1ghz)
1250000000 is the desired frequency in hertz (1250 with six more zeroes at the end)
and 1375000 is the desired voltage in microvolts (1.375v). Tekahuna has said that 1.4v is the highest that these modules can push this. In my experience, that's not enough extra voltage to make a big difference in max overclock speed.
I recommend extensive testing of an overclock before you alter the init scripts to match. (well if you're using a rom with init built in)

Init.d support can be added to any rom by flashing this

As answersamir stated, it realty depends on the phone. I've clocked as high as 1.3GHz stably but don't really need that high of a clock speed, so I scaled back to 1.25GHz with underclock at 240MHz at echo 0. You'll just have to experiment without the echo 3 settings in the init.d folder making slow (100MHz) incremental jumps to see where your phone can run stable before random reboots or freezing occurs... after changing settings, reboot each time, and run for a while at the new clock speed to test.

use Battery Monitor Widget, charge the phone till you see 100% in that app, A2 shows charge in multiples of 10, so 100% in A2 battery means it reached 95%. Via the BMW app, you can add a widget to your homescreen in counts of 1% so you will see real battery %. Also it will show mAh, so when you charge untill it reaches 100% or 1740/1740mAh then only stop charging. You can see battery graphs and all that.
Hope yours is set to Settings->Battery $ data manager ->Battery mode -> Night-tiime saver

Install the app and let us know the details. Also hope you are using the motorola charger and connecting it directly other than via usb->pc

Here's a simple step-by-step for overclocking:
Open Root Explorer or download HERE
Navigate to: system>etc>init.d then select the Oc3 with Text Editor
Find the echo 3 value that reads: echo 3 1125000000 61 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
Then, using the text editor in Root Explorer, change the echo 3 value from 1125000000 to *up to 1200000000 or even higher. (see note below!)
Hit the "back button" and Root Explorer will ask you to save changes. Confirm the changes, and reboot.
After rebooting, open SetCPU and you will see your changes there.
*You can experiment with your clock speed, and a good rule of thumb is to bump up slowly, rather than making large jumps all at once. Start by going from 1125 to 1150 and reboot. Then, if all is well and you've ran at this higher clock speed for a good 5 to 10 minutes, do the above listed process again and go from 1150 to 1175, and so on until you reach your highest stable overclock speed.

You can also underclock in the same way, by changing the echo 0 values. I set mine to underclock to 240MHz at echo 0. Also, using SetCPU you can change the CPU mode (which, you probably already know) from mot_hotplug to performance to ondemand, etc. Experimenting with these settings can either improve or decrease your battery life with the new overclocked speed.
Also, check out THIS THREAD post by rdavisct that gives further explanation to the topic.

Overclocking with farias the real thing

as u can c in my sig im overclocking 273 and boost 2 312 and im experiencing battery drain what settings should I use 2 get a very goos speed and not get drain or 2 much drain...I charged all day and took it off the charger at 9 and at 14:21 I have 11 percent...I started at 100
Your problem is your overclocking, of course its going to drain your battery faster.
I don't mean 2 flame but that was a dumb post...I kno that when u overclock it will drain...hence the reason I asked for some good setting 2 use 2 get speed and batteru life...or atleast enough till like8 o clock at night...because I need my phone for the whole day...please post...if u have something that will help me and others looking for the same thing I am looking for...ty
Have you read the other post which claims that battery drain is caused by a corrupt ExtROM? I am trying this out at the moment... hope it is true...
can i get a link to that post?

your problem is that your over clocking all the time, even when your phone is idle. set the speed to 221. then, use the scaler to set your minimum speed to 162 or 169. Then, set your boost to 260 or 273. Play with different extended decay and attack settings. Also, upgrade your battery status to beta3. Setting it like this, you idle at 26-33mhz lower than stock, peak at 26mhz overclocked and boost (for when your workin it hard) to 78mhz overclocked.
also, leave wifi off if your not using it and try not to use it too much. Conserving my wifi use and with these settings, i'm able to take my phone off the charger at 7:30am and i don't charge it again until 11pm.
Check out my sig.
I am running 130 @ idle, 260 o/c, and 273 boost.
Also, noticed (and downloaded) a new version of Battery Status (which has unfortunately since been removed) last week (was using build 0178, then was build 0182, but now it is build 0181). That seems to have helped a bit with battery life and is more accurate on battery strength.
Here's the link to the battery drain solution... So far, for me, it seems that battery drain has slowed down, after I reflash Dopod's official ROM and then flash Xplore1.1(OS only)... But, don't take my word for it as I have 2 variables to consider now.. different ROM and with a uncorrupted Extended ROM..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302887
One thing I noticed that is different is, now my CPU usage can go down to 1-4%(indicated by Battery Status), previously, it rarely goes below 10% even when idle... then again, it could be coincidence... It's too early to tell, let me go through a cycle of charge and drain first as this is a new ROM(for me) first day!!! See my signature...
thanks for all replys...found it http://rapidshare.com/files/20883928/BatteryStatusExt.1.04.CAB google is great this is 0178 i have 0184 but lost the link

The latest official verisions of BatteryStatus are always right here:

184 appears to be posted now. This one finally appears to properly save your settings and then deinstall the previous before installing the new one (older ones didn't do this and I had problems after upgrading and would have to finally deinstall BS completely, then reinstal and resetup my settings).

Best combos for best battery life

What have we accomplished so far? List your personal running kernel/ROM combos that you are using for the best (and tested) battery life. Let others benefit from your experiences! Thanks!
Das bamf and drods 1.8 bfs kernel set at 1.45. Usually get around 15ish hours with moderate use.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Fyretech rom with imoseyon kernel 1.92 dialed down to 1.792, setcpu, atk. Today is the first day running this combo phone has been on since 7am, moderate use (phone calls, texts, games, internet and youtube,) its 10pm now and i have 39% left on battery. I would have had to charge my phone at least once today when it was new out of the box.
EDIT: using 3g, 4g not available yet in central Jersey.
I'm using the bamf v4.3a kernel with the stock rom. i'm also using setcpu set for the 'ondemand' governor and a profile that underclocks the cpu to 245/245mhz when the screen is off.
BAMF 1.4 sense remix, with adrenaline (spelling? 4.4.2 kernel, dark horse theme, auto rotate Rosie (Saweeeet!) Optimal setcpu settings. Ie: charging profile (245 mhz min- 1.0ghz max/smartass) with this setting I normally get almost 1% battery charge increase a minute. screen off profile (700's mghz-1ghz/on demand. Screen on profile (1.1ghz-1.3ish ghz/smartass. etc... I know some stuff I mentioned doesn't really pertain to battery life, but this set up is just sick! Also, I read somewhere that its a good idea to let ur battery die completely, then turn phone on without charging (you may have to just a bit to get it back on) And let die again. This supposedly tells the phone where the dead zone is on the battery accurately, so it can now get a full clean battery charge. Myth? Idk, but damnit my battery is sick now! Hope this helps.
Sent from my ballerific, sick nasty, purely DopeDiculous, T-Beezy with that LTE-Z!
Personally, I've been testing Imoseyon [ROM] Tesla Coil Version 1.5, with Imoseyon [Kernel] leanKernel: minimal kernel "battsaver" .92 version. I am running it on "On Damand" with charging and screen off profiles, mobile data NOT on auto sync, Tasker for wireless ON at Home and audio OFF at nite.
Really, this seemed to have doubled my battery life. I was having to charge before the end of the work day with moderate use and now have been able to use well into the night.
Hope to see even more Rom/kernel concoctions out there as I love to try any new suggestions.
With adrenalines (I still don't memorize the spelling! Lol) 4.4.2 kernel it deff charges waaay faster as stated. Setcpu charging profile to lowest mghz min to around 1ghz max on smartass. Not demand, n it will bounce around to proper mghz levels as needed to speed up charging process. Its sweet n like you, I'm open for more suggestions

Adryn's debloat ROM and his kernel, with extremely light usage I pulled 38 hours (my previous record was 36). I have been using my phone for the bare minimum, so this is why I got so high. No, this is not real world usage and yes, I hated it, but it works. My normal battery life is somewhere closer to ~18 hours, except on Tuesday's and Thursday's, when I have lecture classes, I usually pull 9-10 hours, because I play games and browse the internet for 2 and a half hours.
Using imoseyon kernel 1.4 extreme(InteractiveX governor) with Tesla Coil 1.5. I have an extended battery, and with moderate use my phone can easily make it through one day into the next before needing to be charged.
Screen off and plugged in.. ;-)
I think it would be best to post in your stats whether or not you have 4g enabled as there are large populations of each way and it makes a significant difference.

True...4g always enabled for me other then when I get no 4g signal and then 3g may go into effect. If no signal at all, then wireless when I am indoors.
I refuse to turn off 4g as that is why I got the phone and my coverage is pretty good for 4g...so, better battery life is a must for me
leankernel v .6 @ 1.41 on demand with das bamf 1.4 remix and i disable data when not using it and right now im at 56% battery at 32 hours with moderate use
I'm using imoseyons extreme kernel on interactivex governer on stock. I'm getting 14hrs %40 battery with moderate usage. I'm mostly on wifi all day with a little of 3g use.

Huge *NOTE!*
Go to settings, menu, wireless networks, mobile networks and uncheck the third box. No need to have mobile data always on for most peeps . You'll still have 4G n everything, but gain a good 1-2 maybe more hrs (depending on use, kernels, governor settings, and I/O scheduling. I personally am running BAMF 1.6.2 with adryns 4.4.7 kernel, no set CPU, using tool box for that at 245mhz min - 1.02max with ondemand governor and most importantly SIO Scheduler. Try these n you will have amazing performance and better battery life. Let me know you opinions

[GUIDE] Undervolting Settings to Maximise Battery Life

I have been playing around with my phone , undervolting it to see which are the best settings. Basically undervolting is like limiting the amount of power your device uses
My battery has greatly improved undervolting my phone!
Here are the optimum settings to use
What you need:
- Sense ROM (which has Virtuous OC Daemon installed)
- Unity Kernel V9
- OC/UV Beater 1.7 App
Install the OC/UV app.
Go to the voltage tab and you can configure from there! Don't forget to save your settings!
I have put my phone to some tests. I changed some UV settings and now I'm getting good battery life!
Set your UV settings -50 across all CPU Speeds! (Permanent profile)
I have been testing this settings for over 7 hours on my phone, perfectly stable!
Or you can use -25 if you wish...
I tried -75 and within 2 minutes my device messed up! My music player kept randomly pausing/unpausing, and then my phone froze completely!
I had to pull out the battery!! (I risked a fried eMMC chip!)
I set my profile for testing a 'temp' one , therefore it wouldn't survive a reboot. So my phone was back to -50 after I put the battery back in. All good now
Quick Summary:
-25 is safe
-50 is even better, been testing fine all day for me
-75 or lower, STAY AWAY FROM THEY WILL MAKE YOUR DEVICE UNSTABLE AND RISK A BRICKED PHONE!
Sorry for this guide being all messed up and long. I will edit it soon to make it more organized
~Disclaimer~
I have already warned in the thread, about the dangers of UV , so I tale NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR PHONE IS BRICKED FROZEN ETC.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
IF IN DOUBT DON'T USE THESE SETTINGS.
Please feel free to share your opinions in the thread, whether your battery Life is any better or not
Hit the thanks button if this has been any use for you
Cheers!
great advice! what are the dangers involved with undervolting? apart from risking having to perform a battery pull if it freezes.
Are there any long term risks or damage that can be caused by undervolting?

Not that i could think of!
If anything, UV preserves your phone for longer!
It will allow the phone to require less power to run hence saving stress on the CPU (?)
Sorry for offtopic/possible hijack, but the greatest battery saver for desire s is imho lowering screen brightness to 25% instead of auto bright mode (whenever possible, i.e. indoor). Combining Your method with this may result in really huge savings. Gotta give it a go.
would this undervolting work with my current rom "RCMix3d VoidU v1.1a (Android 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0)" with htc stock kernel?

Sorry, nope, UV won't work with the stock kernel :/
It only is compatible with Unity V9 (not the older versions)
The only bug unity has is the fron camera is upside-down
But a combination of Unity Kernel and controlling the CPU speed and UV with the app listed in my OP, wow! Battery life is fantastic!
This app is much more effective than other CPU apps aswell. It is well known.
My battery dropped from 100% to 89% on for 8 hours
(15 mins 3G browsing, 20 minutes music listening, 15 minutes messing around with the phone, and the rest 7 hours + on standby!
No joke!

Since we are on the same ROM + kernel too, I can tell you -50 is 100% safe for us!
Been using my phone quite heavily since I got home, flashing mods via recovery, rebooting, etc ..
And phone hasn't frozen or become unstable yet
Good stuff
Also guys please share whether this helps improve your battery life!
EDIT: it will tell you on the OC app. On the voltage tab, it will tell you your current voltage. Remeber to hit save though, after you changed your settings!

Yeah I did that ,and can see it's set to 25 below default. just wondered if it could be monitored.
Mine gets quite heavy use with emails and twitter and facebook and whats app ,so will be interesting

Mines only ever at about 20% unless I'm outside and even then its only about 40% and not used much. battery would just disappear otherwise lol

My screen brightness is as near as or below <20% in normal circumstances and auto when outdoors - in direct sunlight.
I use UV of -25 across all the frequency settings. I did try -50 once and it hung my device such that it would not respond to either the 3 button reset or any adb commands and I was forced to resort to a battery pull, so for now I'm sticking with -25 unless I read significant remarks to the contrary.
My default OC settings are:
Code:
wake gov = virtuous
min = 122000
max = 921600
sleep gov = virtuous
min = 122000
max = 245000
My low battery settings are:
Code:
wake gov = virtuous
min = 122000
max = 768000
sleep gov = virtuous
min = 122000
max = 245000
EDIT: Incorrectly altered these figure initially correct now!
Have certainly seen an extended battery life on this ROM and with these settings, especially when the phone is asleep..
CPU Spy is a great free application for analyzing which state/speed your CPU has been in over time - so very useful.
Plus must credit both the author of the OC daemon (rmk40) and the author of the free [APP] OC/UV Beater2 v1.7 - GUI to change Virtuous_OC, Andrev_OC & Viper_VDD levels application (cjoliver) which is used to easily configure these settings both here from XDA.

Really useful info, thanks very much! Got some questions though if you have a sec?
Is there much difference using ondemand vs virtuous for low battery? Also, I notice your sleep max for low battery is higher than the sleep max for normal of? Thanks!

Opps! I messed up there entering my figures night, I've EDIT'ed my above post, would appreciate if you edited your quote in your post above, so as not to confuse people.
Not 100% sure on virtuous versus ondemand. Virtuous = is tweaked smartass (or smartass 2)
Same here (with the -50).
My phone got hung after 2-3 minutes.
UV numbers are really statistical, some parts will leave with the -50 and some will not. Same goes btw with the -25, for most of us it will work, and for some of us it won't...

Thanks, good to hear that I wan't alone.....so did your phone come back to use in two minutes, then enabling you to revert the numbers....I suppose that that's the great use of the TEMP activation settings!!

Any chance that you could edit the Title of this thread so that it covers Over Clocking/Under clocking and Under volting as the three are closely related.
That may make more users add positive useful input. What do you think?
i want to flash unity v9 kernel to allow me to UV and UC but am concearned about the video recording issue. As i use this frequently and cannot afford for it not to work. does anyone have any idea when v9 will be updated to fix this issue?

The recording issue of FC is solved by changing the setting so that it does not record in stereo
I was using TEMP profile, so after the 3 button hard-reset, it was back to normal.
I'm now on a PERM w/-25.

Seems to be a nice idea. But could you elaborate as on why the text is bold and you had to use capslock for 1/2 of it!?
@slind ok i fixed the post. i will be posting links to the posts who are great battery savers without loosing performance
So basically, we use an I9500 like an Ace or a Grand to get rid of heating and battery drains.. Andyou suggest that it won't result in performance loss. I'd suggest playing games that are more graphically intensive and not just Temple Run.. Try copying data from one memory card to another, or simply try running a Full HD Video. Also, check out web browsing or maybe multitasking, and you'll see where the performance dies out.
I think the fix should come in the upcoming releases of stock firmware by Samsung. By turning off a couple of cores, you're only going back a couple of years. I don't think I upgraded from the S3 to S4 for that reason.

everyone has there preferences and there needs in a phone. and there own settings. and this is a Battery discussion thread. we will be doing many performance and voltage mods, so everyone could choose the settings that suits them. now please dont post aggressive post like that, im not stupid. i know that my settings are very low.
but for my most played games and most used apps. it doesnt seem to effect my performance, so im comfortable with my settings
i had the phone for 2 weeks, happily showing off battery performance and then i asked myself again, why the heck i bought this phone in the first place? BECAUSE IT HAS REPLACABLE BATTERY!.. LOL.. how silly i am trying to squeeze that little drop of power out of the battery when I can double the battery just by getting another spare.
no need to turn off anything, no need to drop performance or screen brightness.. just pure enjoyment of the full potential without worrying battery problem.. just get a spare.

I didn't mean to be aggresive and sorry if you felt like that. All I mean is, there is a limit to which you can undervolt/underclock your phone without losing the functionality or speed. While underclocking to 1.0 ghz or 1.2 ghz sounds kinda normal, going all the way down to 800 Mhz and that too only on two cores is like running Galaxy Ace Dual Core instead. Why would I want to spoil my S4 for it?
That is all that I meant. And the phone is normally shelling out a good day's use in normal usage. Why bother so much about battery really???
My S4 i9505 came with MDE ROM from the factory, apart from doing dirty flashes over dirty flashes, finally someone came up with a recovery which is working. So i've :
1. Formatted system , cache , dalvik
2. Loaded in Djembey's stock slim deodexed ME2 ROM.
3. Using PimpMyROM, did some moderately less aggressive tweaks.
4. Capped the Max frequency at 1674MHz. Interactive gov, Noop sched.
5. Fully charged and unplugged.
6. Fully on 3G . Gmail sync for calendars, contacts, mail, keep, notes. Moderately heavy on Gtalk and Whatsapp. Browsing news and websites.
Observed 4 hours screen time.
Almost 15 hours of total usage + standby (This doesn't mean much, screen time depicts usage time more)
The phone still feels warmer than S2, under operation.
I've yet to try faux kernel yet, but i doubt it would get much better than this. The physical limit i feel is on the CPU, HD AMOLEDs, and the modem itself under normal usage.
Feel free to comment.
Hi,
hope you may be able to help. I have been trying almost everthing to increase the music volume as the s4 does not drive my senheiser headphones as well I would like. Is it possible to increase the gain through a kernel mod somehow?
Wow you're really random. This thread isn't even remotely discussing about the issue you raised.
Try the omega ROM thread, see if the functionality list includes volume hack.

Back panel heating

Hello guys,
Guys post your battery temp during normal use, gaming, heavy app use plz..m facing heating issues and want to compare with other Xperia L's
This is during my normal use with 3G which heats upto 40 sometimes
Screenshot attached
Normal Usage using Wifi
Normal usage with wifi:
After playing around 10 minutes of Asphalt 8 on High settings:
The CPU was at 50 degress but it goes to 48 when I took ss.

Mine goes 42 degrees with gaming like FIFA12 etc and in 3G use it stays around 35-40 and with wifi 34-38..are this temperatures normal?

I cannot said what the temperature is when I use 3G as my data package is out for this month already, but I think the temperatures provided by you are normal. Like when you are playing Fifa the CPU is cooler than mine. I think they are normal. Most of modern phone's have heating issue during playing.

Well, don't think so. My phone also heats up during charging when I use it. I'm not sure if this work or not but you of course when you wan't can enable option that Nexus 4 has. It's like when a phone reach certain temperature a cpu/gpu clock is lower to prevent battery overheated.
I don't have it enable as mostly I don't play or do anything more stressful that will make phone hot.

dude you have a fit right...oh you sold it, still that device was about half as powerful okay 1/3 rd yet the battery temp with 0 activity and mostly in deep sleep is at 30 C.
now xperia L is way more powerful so should get a tad bit hotter too right(of course that's based on CPU activity) try it put is down for say two hours no charging , no nothing so that in deep sleep(lowest freq) also no 3g(that has its own daemon that eats cpu power i.e. causes cpu to work and hence battery drain and heat). wifi is okay(stable connection hence minimal cpu usage as no reconnections).
now check yor battery temp should be around 35C so your device is fine.
all this is based on stock heat and power management cant comment on custom kernels.
to check battery temp via device(no app) use code *#*#4636#*#*

if you are on a custom kernel the best practice is to uv and NOT oc also change the governor to Interactive since thats far better than performance.(spimply put performance goes to top cpu freq even when not required and slowly scales down while interactive scales up fast and down fast at user touch events) for heating and basic phone wear and tear purposes.
and one of the main reason along with more ram(i mean lower bloat hence more free ram) that i want a cyanogen mod ROM.
Before and after playing candy crush.lol
When charging,it will up to 37-39 degrees
Qualcomm makes the MSM8230 chip that you see in L, there are 4 different "types" based on how it meets their quality standards. These are Slow, Nominal and Fast (Faster is on Higher end chips like APQ8064). The main difference IIRC between these types is how stable each can handle undervolting. CPUs that are "Fast" for example come pre-configured at a lower nominal voltage than a "Nominal" type CPU, and more so than a "Slow" type. IIRC, there's like only a -50mV difference between Fast and Slow out of the box, however Fast CPUs should be able to handle lower voltages than Slow-type.
This may explain why some people complain higher temp than others on account of same tasks. Although there can be other reasons. I'm not quite sure.
To find out what binned CPU you have, I recommend the following:
YOU MUST BE ROOTED! And installed busybox
1) Install Terminal Emulator
2) Reboot your phone
3) Open Terminal Emulator, and type:
su
dmesg | grep PVS
(if you don't see anything, try it.immediately after fresh reboot)
For example I've fast binned cpu
So basically, far as I understand I got Fast CPU which isn't going to be as hot as the Slow type due to lower voltage ?
