[Q] ICS ROM / KERNEL ? Anything official / Information? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello, I have been doing some reading here as well I sit on IRC on the #skyrocket channel which is pretty quiet these days.
I am using TPC GB rom build with Da_G kernel, and so far (since november 2011) it has been solid.
I have tried alienROM for the ICS leak, but it is missing some kernel features I like, however is a decent ROM. I was wondering if there were any nice ROMs or Kernels for ICS yet, or are well all still waiting for samsung to release an official ICS build so proper kernels can be made. It has been quite awhile and are we even getting an official build for the I727R (Rogers)
I wanted to post here if that is OK because I have not been finding too many answers to what I am looking for. I am in no rush really, but wanted to start thinking about tweeking my phone. Would it be best to play with leaked builds or just wait till some official builds come out then wait and go from there. If anyone has suggestions that would be great.
Thank you for your time and comments.

Hi. All the roms you'll find here are decent and will each appeal to different people and their needs. I've found the latest SkyICS to be excellent in many ways. Try a few different ones to see what you like. Any will be better than stock GB.
As for kernels, there are a few out, but none will have all the features we like about a custom kernel until the official ICS is released because -as far as I know - the code for the kernel hasn't been released yet.
For example, we won't have overclocking until someone can tear into the official released kernel.
I am not a developer, so please, someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Without kernel source nothing can be done. No oc, no uv, no bln.

Thanks for the reply, I am on GB (not stock) running rom / kernel (4.3.5) just can't decide on what ICS I want to go with. So I will continue to read away

Doesn't the Cymbaline kernel have BLN now?

Yes. He posted that before the t989 source dropped. Cymbaline used fixes from that source. We also have instigatorx kernel for aosp based roms.

Ok i meant a kernel for a coredroid DHD rom, is there any kernels
I just made a post about this yesterday when some one was asking about battery life, but I will post again.
The only roms that have custom kernel are the ones who's source has beeen released, or have been built from source ie. Froyo builds, CM7 builds, Miui builds. None of the ginger bread roms based on the leaked DHD have custom kernels, and probably won't have custom kernels. HTC is more then likely not going to release the source to their leaked rom. Also when flashing kernels you don't not want to switch bases, meaning you don't want to flash a CM7 on Coredroid (gingerbread) or a Froyo based rom.
If your still a little confused about what a kernel is, think of it this way ( I forget who said it in a thread before me), but a Rom is what you see on the screen, and a Kernel is what makes it happen.

Close but not quite, there is a custom OC/UV kernel for several different gingerbread roms. here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050106
i have used this kernel with coredroid 5.4 and it works flawlessy

Very well it came out four days ago. Even though what I said is still true there still isn't a custom kernel from the dhd source, because HTC more then likely won't release it. Good to see they ported one though.

true, i'll give you that one. that's the nice thing about linux through it's open source nature makes for the ability to use one devices code to create a work of art for another device.
Coredroid is using leedroids latest custom kernel. It doesn't work well with 5.4 but works greatttttt with 6.0!!

[Q] Best Kernel for ICS on G2x?

I've recently flashed to an ICS rom, and I am now trying to figure out what the best kernel is to run with it (I'd really like to see one that maximizes battery life.) If you are running ICS, would you mind please posting what ROM you are using and what Kernel you have along with it. Also, take a second to explain the pros and cons of that Kernel so we may all make more informed decisions as we prepare to potentially flash one...
Thank you kindly!

I would say Faux123 its a good kernel and its good for a good battery life.

Does faux123 support voodoo sound? Also is it compatible with Hellfire?

it does appear he did....thanks for that! ...and I'm still up for any other suggestions floating around out there.
Is anyone else getting really choppy video playback with this rom?

Mr. Apocalypse uses Harsh's kernel for Genesis. Owain uses Harsh's kernel for his ICS build. x0xhellx0x uses Faux's kernel for Hellfire Sandwich. I think you can use those as starting point. I like Morfic's Trinity kernel because you can OC to 1560.

Everyone is. NVIDIA has yet to release ICS drivers... so there is sub optimal video on all ICS builds.
We await the official release.
i would recomment the harsh kernel 1505 oc i love it smooth nice battery. i'm against faux it's good in battery and fast, but when you try doing too many stuff it starts hanging

Latest version of Zeus/ GB kernels

So I've been running the unofficial ICS and jellybean ROMs and have run into some problems. To avoid that, I'm going to return to stock .3.6 and just in GB ROMs. Zeus treats the battery kindly, so I'm going to run that. However, I can't find the latest version. I can only find v6.0.. the original.
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412957
I would like to run the latest version of v6.
In addition, I'm looking to run a good GB kernel. The defuse kernel sounds like it will accommodate Zeus very nicely. I found the defuse kernel v1.4. Will this kernel be compatible with Zeus?
Thanks

defuse kernel is froyo. you'll be in a boot loop treat if you flash it over zeus.
zeus 6 may have been on the infusion kernel by bedwa,..i can't remember...
the choices you can run with zeus: uclb3 stock, zen's a1600 or b1400, entropy's dd.

Phew. I'm glad I didn't do that. I'll look up those kernels. Thanks
Do you know what the latest version f Zeus and where I can find it? I can only find the initial release version, v6.0.

V6.0 is not the initial release....that is like the 6th release...actually more then that if I remember correctly there were also some "x.x" releases as well...you probably won't find the latest as dman took it down and requested no one make mirrors...because I guess people were being dumb and complaining

Hmmmm. I was looking for v6.x.. just could not find them. That would make more sense after what u said. I know there were previous versions of Zeus, like v5 for instance. So over time the bugs should be pretty much worked out. V6 sounds great!
Thanks

[Q] where's all the jb kernels?

Maybe I missed something, but I've noticed a huge lack of JB kernels for the infuse, which is pretty odd. are they out there and I'm just blind, or are they way more integrated with the roms now?
Most JB roms, if not all of them, use scott's kernel source. That's practically all there is at this level..

and if you want to get technical we dont have any jb kernel, or ics kernels because every kernel for the infuse (unless it was from back before we got the official GB) are Gingerbread kernel modified to allow compatibility for ICS and JB, so technicially we wont have any jb kernel, but as far as a variety of jb compatible kernels i would believe the reason why we only have one of those is because most of our kernel devs are not doing much with the infuse now, unless it is posted elsewhere and not on xda, but in all actuality why do we need a variety of kernels, the one we have is working excellent and includes OC, and several other performance enhancing features such as ZRAM

Exactly this...our current kernel is phenomenal....and we lack kernel devs...that stuffs confusing...at least to me.

AOKP... What Kernels are you running...

Yeah, so I'm running AOKP 4.2.2 Milestone-1 and am looking for a kernel to give me a little better performance. I cant seem to find one that is compatible. I tried this: lk_s3vzw_tw_jb-v3.0.zip Franco Kernel but my phone wouldnt get past the Samsung screen???
you gotta flash a vzw kernel.
kt747 has been great on every rom ive ever run.
it come with a tweaking app and widget.
also, see what that version of AOKP runs. if its 3.4 you need a 3.4 kernel. if its 3.0 you need 3.0
OH!!!
Version 3.4.40 So where can I download. I havent really been able to find downloads.....
edit:
OK so I found kt747, but only seem to be able to download 1 version, and it doesn't say which one either????
both the development forums have kernels in them.
Ive seen people use BMS, leankernel and KT pretty often.
all the newest versions should be 3.4
Try lk 6.5. Its an AOSP version and its running great for me.
