Not to mention that is fraud, which is not exactly something you should recommend in a public forum...

Make the person who pushed it off the counter pay the insurance amount.
Insurance is meant to cover things like this. That's not fraud

I accidentally pushed my phone off of the bathroom counter and it landed flat on the screen. Not a scratch on the screen but there is a hairline crack in the top left corner of the casing. Strange that the case would crack before the screen.
Ya this is what insurance is for so it not fraud. But I was more wondering if there is a replacement screen for this phone out yet that I could buy and fix myself? And ya when the phone dropped it landed right on the corner so all force of impact was concentrated in one spot...

There you go, search amazon and ebay though if you want also, you may beable to find parts cheaper.

He can use a lighter and heat up the void sticker. Use tweezers and carefully remove it. It will all come off in one piece, then you can open it up, replace what needs to be replaced, put it back together, and put the sticker back over the screw. VZW will never know.

A blow dryer is better than a lighter for this.

Hahaha using a blow dryer to heat up the void sticker. I gotta try this!
I only got back the purchase price from Amex, not enough to replace it
I would recommend going through the insurance to get it replaced. The same thing happened to my Thunderbolt (today, actually) and it was relatively hassle-free. Functionality of the phone wasn't really affected so the cost was only $99.00 for the replacement. I figure it's better to pay this and start with a fresh phone than waiting until something really breaks on it.
I have found a craigslist post in my area saying there letting go there phone for $250. In the post they continue to say that only the screen is cracked. A picture they posted shows the phone on with cracks on the screen.
I have emailed them and they replied that if it doesn't sale they will just repair it, because it only cost $18 (this concerns me, why not just repair on such an expensive phone)
My questions: is it worth it?? Also what questions do you think I should ask? And if I meet them in person what should I look for?
Thanks in advanced xda folks!

My friend cracked the glass on his and the screen won't even turn on. I called the phone and it rang but the screen wouldn't light up and the digitizer wouldn't register touches. So I'd stay away.
I have seen replacement screens on eBay for $20 or so, but I believe that the digitizers are glued to the screen.
If you can't cleanly separate the two, you're probably in for the cost of a replacement combo ... about $200.
Still cheaper than a new one outright ...

I've seen replacement screens on ebay for maybe $15-20 but to replace it seems rather difficult: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70-W9JjVjg&feature=relmfu.
It's really up to you whether it's worth it or not. If you're up for the challenge of replacing the screen (or if you think you can live with the crack, you didn't mention how bad it is) then go for it. If not, I'd probably stay away as this doesn't exactly seem like an easy fix.
Try lowering his price to 200$ then send it in to Samsung they will charge about 190$ to replace it. The digitizer is glued to glass and u won't be able to separate and put on new glass.

It may not be broken but its all one unit.. my guess is they already know this or they would have gotten it fixed themselves
Replacement screens are about 18-20 but replacing them is very difficult because of the adhesive that bonds them... Dont't buy it.. you would have to buy a new bezel with the screen and digitizer attatched to it. about 200-250 itself..A shop around me does it but they said it would be 300 plus labor..
If you can get it at a decent price and can replace the screen cheaply then i would say go for it.

Where did u get that quote I have a broken gs3 and best option is Samsung 180 shipped and returned. OP did the phone need bezel replaced? Here is my damaged phone not one scratch on bezel landed perfectly flat and the SGP case doesn't offer much protection over the screen its almost flush. If it was under or roughly 160-180 plus 180 screen replacement sub 400 gs3 good price.

Check if the carrier or Samsung will replace/repair the phone for you. If you have insurance on your phone w/ your carrier then you can make a claim as well. A replacement screen costs over $200.

All of you ar lazy. 30 bux and 2 hours of time and ur phone will be as good as new. You I bought a glass for mine. Seperarted the front and bafk stuck the front piece jn the oven for 20 minutes at 200 degrees and I seperated the glass from the lcd and stuck the replacement glass on it. Good job you just paid somebody 126 bux to change a little piece of glass.

That's pretty horrible reasoning. Maybe they don't feel comfortable taking a heat gun to a $400 phone with no guarantee that it will be fixed. Have you ever paid to have a car fixed? I did the head gasket on my mustang and saved my self 3000 but would I think someone was lazy because they took there's too a shop? Of course not they may just not have the technical skills.

i am sending mine in to samsung. As of today cost is 135.31 after shipping both ways. this is to replace glass, lcd and digitizer, sounds like i'll get a new frame too!
**edit**
FYI i lacked the technical skills to do this. my lcd and digitzer was fine. then i tried to remove the glass, well i suck at life and i broke the lcd and cut the digitizer! so im a noob! BFD! and yes i read the how to and watched vids, even had a second set of hands. i would say try it, you're looking at 20 bux nowadays for the glass. if you break it like me its still under $140 to send it in to get it fixed by samsung. better than having some pro screen guy do it, he charges you much more the glass alone.
(if this helped please give me a thanks)
Grab a new screen online (ebay, other sites). Most come with instructions on how to do it, just takes patience.

If you are replacing just the glass yes. If your LCD is busted don't bother. send to samsung, its cheaper than all other options.
i cracked just the glass, bought a new red glass (which i still have in packaging) and 2mm tape (still have too in package) PM if you want them.
in the process of removing old glass, i destroyed my LCD, this is why I'm sending to samsung.
20$ for the glass is definately worth an attempt on your own but research alot before you do, its a tedious and scary process, at least its scary when you see the lcd break...
unless i'm looking in the wrong places, you cant find an LCD/ digitizer/ glass assembly for less than $135.31 shipped.
if you are in a hurry and trust yourself, and money isn't a factor, do it yourself, shipping to samsung will take around 10 days. But if money isn't a factor just buy a new phone and sell yours on ebay!
Knock on glass, I haven't broken the screen on any of my phones... even dropped my SGS3 a couple of times with zero protection on it... whew! :highfive:
I bought a flip cover, but it doesn't go all the way, and doesn't completely close. I removed it, and installed it again but that didn't solve it. Is it meant to be like this? I thought that it was supposed to snap magnetically and fully cover the screen
I have also installed a zagg screen protector installed, but I don't think that that should cause a problem like this. Is this a case of faulty design, or misinformed consumer? Pic included below.
I had the regular one and was not impressed. Did about the same...
Too much money for such a poor performer...
Yeah same issue here.
I am hoping the OtterBox for the S4 is going to be out within 2 weeks. If so, I'll return the S view cover for a refund and get the otterbox
The S-View cover DOES NOT magnetically close. Nor does the regular flip cover.

I didn't expect it to be magnetic, but if I lay my S4 down on a flat surface the cover should go down all the way. Mine stays open about 1/2" and doesn't fully close unless I hold it closed...

I think you both got taken as I bought my s-view cover from a Smartone (mobile network operator) store here in Hong Kong for USD$29 yesterday. God knows why it's so expensive in the UK and US!!! It's a nice cover but definitely not worth $60

over a few weeks, it will loosen up and sit much tighter on the screen......but it still wont stay shut in the even of a fall...
I ordered this case from Amazon, but it must be coming on the slow train, because it's taking forever to arrive. I like that it has the s view option, but still protects the phone better than the official case. Hopefully it won't be a piece of junk.

Mine closes flat and did as soon as I installed it, but others I know at the same event would not stay shut.
I tried this out on my phone yesterday at Best Buy and I didn't like it at all. The fitment felt off for me. It was kinda nifty, though.

They will charge a 200$ deductible to replace a lost or stolen device with insurance. It will be much cheaper to replace it yourself. I would just stop by a repair center and ask them. They may tell u its a sealed design and it has to be replaced. Or u may get lucky and they might hear it up and take it off for about 50 dollars.
Ok I'm going to try a center. I saw on YouTube you can get a replacement back but I debating on trying it

If you're a handy dude, it's a 10 minute job at best. Now replacing the glass? That's a *****.
Mobiledefenders.com has the part, rip that cracked crap off without losing most adhesive, use a blow dryer on low about 2 inches from back and heat it slightly and all around, place a book on it for 5-10 minutes and your golden.

Ya if you are 10% handyman u should be able to do it a crap load cheaper than taking it. The front i would not try unless your use to taking apart and puting back together. The back is a cake walk
