So I have been throwing around this idea for awhile about making a script that will do it all for the Atrix2, root, fxz restore, some other hacks. This would be accomplished from a menu driven shell script, with all the things like the root hack and adb and moto-fastboot included with the script, so no need to go grab them all.
What do you think?
Who wants this, and who would use this?
For me this would be quite easy, but I will ONLY do it, if enough people want it, and would use it.
So post your thoughts, and if there are other utils you would like it to do include that in your reply.
And to totally steal a line from a favorite movie in the geek world:
"One script to rule them all"
This is a great idea! Sure would save a lot of time. I'm interested.

That's a neat idea!!
I would certainly use it and I am sure others would too. I would recommend you make a windows batch version too because many people here do not have linux, even though they probably should so maybe this would motivate them.
I think this is a cool and useful idea, so if other people agree I would say go for it.
P.S. check the thread I just started about cheesecake.
Im down for that

I think it's an excellent idea I would use it and this clearly would help others to do all the things we can do with our Atrix2.
"One script to rule them all" would be perfect! Count my vote.
Sounds great! Yes please!
As a Mac User... WANT!
Love the idea!

Oh yeah, this would be great! Might actually convince my wife to root and play with hers then.
Ok, so I have decided to work on this script.
Here is what I am going to work on as far as things the script will do:
1) Root the Atrix 2 (for both 2.3.5 and 2.3.6)
2) Restore the fxz (for both 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 "modified" xml and all)
3) Have an option to run my Ubuntu full webtop hack
4) An option to copy music and pictures to and from the phone
5) Sideload apps (for those that don't want to enable the non-market apps)
Any thing else that anyone wants, please request it now before I get started, I will start on this on Friday morning, so requests need to me put in here or PM'd to me before Friday June 15th, I would really prefer to have the requests in here (so they are in one place), but I will also accept a PM.
So, don't forget to put your requests in!

how about an option to install cheesecake, or the auto cheesecake I just posted. That should give some encouragement and would be really easy.
an option to pull CWM backups from the sdcard and delete them from it to free up space
Let me know if you want any help with this.

Great ideas, I will add those in.
I might hit you up, let me see once I am in it knee deep.
I am guessing it is about 6-8 hours of coding, so it should not be too bad, but I will let you know on Friday, I might break some of it up, and have you do a few things and I can do a few things, then have the main script call all the others, and I can do the main script.... It would then be modular, sort of like the kitchen.
I am still debating if I use perl or shell. If I use perl, we might be able to make it work in windblows too.... just a thought though. Using perl would add a lot more lines of code though.
If this is still happening how about an option to dump system as an image for use with from building. that should be easy to add.

Ok good idea. I will add that... it will be a cat of the device and can be mounted as a loop device similar to an iso.
I have some parts already started, about 2 hours worth of coding so I have a good bit started and finished.

Hi Jim,
I just read your post from about 2 hrs ago, that you've already got about 2 hrs worth of coding done.
QUESTION: Did you go with Perl or with shell scripting or a mix? (just thinking about Cygwin for the Windows crowd who don't do VM's, for whatever reason).
Thanks so much for this awesome gift to the community Jim.
Respectfully,
Paul

Hey all. This is version 2.0 of my app installer. Gone is the 550 line batch file and here is a nice little GUI!
This app is the first step on the way to a full on visual kitchen for Android, but it may be a while before that becomes a reality. Right now this is really only designed to push back the stock applications that came with the CDMA Hero but were removed in Fresh ROM. However if you look around a little bit you will find a secret menu that lets you push whatever apk/odex you want (will be pushed to /system/app).
I have also added a button to clear your cache. This is a nifty little trick that is similar to clearing your temp and prefetch folders in Windows. It can help fix random issues like programs displaying wrong version numbers, an icon that isn't working after a rom flash (the voicemail icon is notorious for this) or any other little issues that just appeared.
As always, please report any known issues. This is another 4am release so there's bound to be mistakes. The only issue I know about so far is that after closing it in Windows 7 I get a dialogue pop-up saying that CDMA Hero App Installer may not have installed properly (it thinks the program should be installed rather than just ran). I'm looking in to the issue but right now it's just a minor annoyance and doesn't affect anything.

Works great. I wanted Sprint tv back for Thursday night football. One thing when prompted yes or no, type the entire word. Y or N will not suffice and will result in an error. Very well done and super easy to use.

Copy/paste me your "interaction" with the program and I'll check out what the problem might be. I'm throwing another batch script style program like this together that will help people disable some programs that are auto-starting. i should really learn how to just through a quick gui together. I hate programming though. ha.

Looks great! I have a question Flipz. Is there any way to get an app like Sprint TV working over Wifi with a rooted phone? I know stock, it wont allow it run over Wifi. Was just curious if its a possibility, and didnt want to start another thread just to ask.

Great work! It looks good, but to be limited to one screen and also not being able to use widgets, seems like it is a very limited. More so then even an iPhone!
Yeah no widgets and the weather which I like to have is a paid extra only.
hope you aren't using my scripts i made for translating and asking for donations that's pretty lame
not my cup of tea to limited imho
Before donating to aalopez you need to check out the thread Windows 7 App (Translation). The original developer is http://www.joymms.com/English and Samspoon was assisting with the translation because the developer was delayed in getting the English version published, but it looks like the developer has the english version on his website now. I had an e-mail conversation last night with [email protected] and he had just downloaded the English version.
aalopez pdf looks VERY similar to the Readme.htm file you get when you download the app from the following site, http://www.joymms.com/English/. WOW!!!!
I was wondering why another Win 7 thread was created.........

My apologies if I spoke out of turn...just looking at your post it didn't seem you were giving credit to the original developer. Now that you have the following on your original post I believe it makes it much more clear of your intentions.

Please except my apologies if you feel I slandered your good name or intentions.
Now to the topic of this thread...the app is really cool but I had issues with trying to register for the Gold Membership, there was no way to continue after putting my payment info. I have sent an e-mail to the developer asking for assistance.

Now that we have an official release of GB for the SGS4G, we have a standard set of bloatware that the phone comes with.
The purpose of the SGS4G Debloater is to let YOU pick what bloatware you'd like removed from your phone.
FEATURES
* Lets the user pick which bloatware to remove
* Creates a CWM zip file. Flash, reboot, bloatware free!
NOTES
* Works with any KJ6 based ROM
* This works best on a freshly installed KJ6 rom that hasn't grabbed any market updates yet.
* Keep your custom Debloater zip on your SD card in case you flash any other KJ6 based ROM, that way you always have the rom customized to your liking.
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Browse to http://teamacid.sourceforge.net/debloater/
2) Pick which bloatware apps you'd like removed
3) Download the zip file
4) Transfer to your phone
5) Flash and enjoy a snappier phone!

*Worked like a charm! Thank you!
No problem. I was a little surprised when I tested it myself. The first reboot after removing the bloat made the phone feel pretty snappy. I was getting tired of using Titanium to uninstall all the /system apps so I made that site.

If you can I'd love to work with you to make a mobile phone interface. I need to work out a POST submission bug that I found when using a phone but I think that can be solved by passing the data using JSON instead of letting the browser handle it directly. Basically it should feel more like a native phone interface. Large checkboxes and text to make it easier to select items, etc.

Yeah I'm done with finals tomorrow so I'll finally get around to it this weekend. I want a nice break, this semester's been tough.
Nice to find another programmer though
Thank you- works great
Did you use the KJ6 debloater after your phone came up from installation and went down to CWM or you applied it on the same CWM session of ROM installation ?

The name of it says it all!
I know this isn't a new idea or question. But why isn't there a (free) appstore for xda where developers can upload their apps all in one place. Similar to what dividgiga did in his thread (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720944). But would have categories for more devices. Even specific ones. Could have apps, ROMs, kernels, games, mods, anything downloadable. With xda's support they could even implement a feature on the site that when a developer makes a thread and uploads his work on the forum it will give a prompt and ask if he wants it automatically uploaded to the store. I have searched for similar ideas and found that's one place where they failed. People not uploading enough items to the database. Having a prompt for it to automatically be added to the store would [in theory] fix that issue. Also this would raise awareness of the appstore and generate more users and in turn more developers wanting to add their work, another issue I've seen with other appstores. Having everything in one place would also make finding awesome things for your phone so much easier. Cause let's face it if u don't know EXACTLY what to "search" for how are you going to find it? And before someone says it, no I'm not one of the people that is too lazy to search the forum. I actually spend hours searching the forum and Google before I ask for an answer. This would just make it faster and easier. And what's the purpose of technology if not to make things easier, faster, and more efficient?
Anyways these are just my initial ideas. Have many more but I wanted to get some input on this first. Please comment with your opinion or other ideas.
$
A project like that should cost a lot, and even if someone wanted to realize it, they didn't find investors. I also think the appstore doesn't have to be completely (free). Why not to pay Rom's authors for their work...the cost of a beer from everyone downloads the rom should be enough to thank them. p.s sorry for my English
I agree but in order for xda to back it I'm pretty sure it would have to be free. (If the same rules apply as from the forum). There would definitely be a donation button though. Don't get me wrong on that. And like I said these are just basic initial ideas. By no means is my post a complete plan for an app market.

If you put it in this way, then of course it would be a successfull idea. So who should we fight to have the store?
I've just watched the introduction video...so take my "thank"
I feel like if a detailed more complete plan for this app store was wrote up and presented to xda and enough developers agreed to back it. and help develop it there would be a good chance they would agreed to implement it on their website.it's impossible to not be heard if you make enough noise and present an educated plan. sorry for the brief reply.II'm going into work right now. I will get back on later when I get off. And we can talk about this more. We need to try and get more people to comment on this thread though for sure.

As I said in a previous post. In order to be backed by xda it would have to be free (as stated in forum rules), however their would be donation buttons for people to say thanks. If developers wouldn't upload to the appstore simply because they don't get paid per-app only from donations then why would they load stuff on the xda forum? Because the same rule applies here.
See what I'm trying to say?
support the xda app market!!:good:
however, it will be cool for having a paid apps section to reward developers
Its definitely an option I'm not saying it won't happen. Like I said before make enough noise and you can't be ignored =P any other good ideas? Remember no idea is a bad idea so start brainstorming!
And definitely help try and get more people on board with the idea! The more people that back it up the better chances we will have a stable long lasting appstore and not one that'll be here one minute and gone the next!
Seems cool. Good idea!

LIFE! It's what you make out of it!
I ran into a technical hurdle with implementing the Windows RT 8.1 jailbreak. I believe that it will only be possible to install the jailbreak while in a command prompt recovery console. You'd have to hold volume down, or other similar mechanism for non-Surface products, select recovery, then select Command Prompt. You'd have to, of course, be very careful when you do this, because the "format your SSD" options are right next to it.
Would this make you reluctant to install such a jailbreak? Once installed, it should stay persistent until a major upgrade event like a service pack or Windows 8.2/9.0.
The reason for all this is because it turns out that what I'm trying to do can only be done on the C: drive. In order to do my exploit, I need raw write access to the disk sectors, and Windows does not allow writing to mounted filesystems to even applications running as Administrator. Only kernel drivers are allowed to do such raw writes, and I'm trying to become a kernel driver. They actually do this to defeat attempts to defeat driver signing. =)
A way to bypass this, of course, is to get to the drive when it's not mounted. You can't lock the C: drive for raw writing without booting to another OS installation, such as the recovery image.
This method is somewhat risky; I'd be doing sector-level writes to your primary disk partition. There would be a number of precautions to try to prevent writing to the wrong location, but there can never be guarantees that I don't screw up the code and delete your priceless documents.
How do you all feel about this?
I would totally be fine with this. Can't wait to see exactly how the Jailbreak works. Anyways if you need a Surface 2 tester to test before the finish release I could help XD
I kinda guessed it would degenerate to this.
I won't mind, but then again I wouldn't consider myself an "average" jailbreak user, and compared to how easy (relatively) the initial RT8.0 jailbreak was this might be an issue.
Do we have any idea the kinds of people who are currently using the jailbreak?

According to Microsoft just hackers, according to me: Devs, Hackers, and noobs who think they can run Minecraft XD
I'm rather concerned about the final group; the others are probably going to live fine with it.

Agree, still though release it but with quite a large USA-Style license. Like do not run this on your cat style
I don't think it matters that much (or at all) if it's a one time thing. While some people have the tendency to screw up everything regardless of how well the procedure is documented (you can't avoid those YOU BROKE MY DEVICE people anyway), they know the risks beforehand.
As for the data, the documents are most likely synced up to skydrive since the local-only account option is hidden pretty well in 8.1.
Also, just flashing a different ROM to a mobile phone can be much more complicated than your decribed procedure - just a couple of days ago I helped a friend to "upgrade" their Android phone and I had to install a SDK and issue some shady console commands over the USB in the recovery mode to get it to work. And as far as I could tell this is considered pretty standard.

I think it's OK. Do you remember rooting of first android phones? Working on ADB Shell and so on?
So one time boot into recovery and execute carefully some commands will be OK.
I think it's okay, too.
And if someone Says it isn't okay: Do you want to abandon all your work you have done for the Jailbreak so far?
I think a Jailbreak like this is better then none, and when there is no easier, less critical method to do it everyone should be fine with yours.
I'd be fine with it too. Especially since the procedure only has to be done once. Sure it might run the risk of data loss, but I'd be sure I had a backup first.

Hmm, not sure where I fit into that. IT guy that wants to make use of the RT desktop and isn't a hugh Modern UI fan, but couldn't afford a Surface Pro (and wanted the better battery life anyway). I can run Minecraft on it?!?
Thanks again for all your work on this jailbreak Myriachan! I'd pretty much written RT 8.1 off as I had no idea if or when a jailbreak would or could be developed. But now I'm kind of excited!
Looking forward to it.
I think most would be fine with it. If not, they do not have to use it.
Just put up a VERY BIG WARNING and beyond that you can't stop people from not following directions.
If it have a way to go back to original state (before jailbreak, without factory reset). I don't have any problem.
Hi.
I would do it, as long as I end up with Notepad++ and svn on my Surface RT ^^
Thanks for asking, though. I really like your attitude.
I'm sending best wishes and keep on looking forward to the mighty jailbreak,
Kalle

This is precisely what he meant, too many people seem to read jailbreak as: I can play minecraft. You can't.

I think he was joking.
Offtopic, but Minecraft should be able to run with a openGL-DriectX Wrapper, and a lot of work with Ikvm. but that aint going to happen anytime soon if ever.

IKVM cannot load minecraft on x86, let alone ARM. It doesnt support any external library with native code in it (ie, LWJGL)

yes, thats why i suggested a wrapper (translate the OpenGL code to DirectX code for the Cpu, we have been using that a lot in school projects latly) and modifying of the source code to allow such a thing

Sorry, I was joking. I've read all the queries about running Minecraft, both on this forum, and on Microsoft's own forum. Suffice to say, If someone does get Minecraft running on Windows RT they will be a rather popular person...
Also sorry for the off-topic bit...
Sounds good to me.
I think it'd be good for anyone who actually wants to jailbreak the RT, so no problem Just put up a warning and disclaimer (although I think that the people who wouldn't understand the technical details and warnings wouldn't read the disclaimers anyway...)
Thanks for your hard work. Looking forward for the RT8.1 jailbreak
