[Q] Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman WT19i unlock-bootloader/root - General Questions and Answers

I am using Sony Live with Walkman WT19i
Android version 4.0.4
Build Number 4.1.B.0.431
I have a few questions --
1 - What is difference between unlocking bootloader and rooting? Which one to do first? can one be done without other?
2 - if I want to root my device, what method should i use?

the rooting business
1) rooting - its gaining ADMIN level or ROOT level access similar to root in linux. You can do anything without restrictions.
unlock bootloader - you have to unlocking the bootloader, so it can load a custom rom you want. Without unlocking, only the device manufacturer's original ROM is loaded.
You can root it, but leave the bootloader intact and not the other way around.
2) try this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695514
I am also trying to root my WT19i, but it seems not possible on the ICS upgrade, so I have to downgrade to GB.
Also share your result.

[Q] Sony Xperia S locked bootloader rooting ?

Hi I have a Sony xperia s with the build number 6.0.A.3.62 but my bootloader is locked is there anyway that I can root my device on this build without unlocking my bootloader ? I'm new at this so any help is appreciated. Thank you
You could try SuperOneClick or UnlockRoot. Those are two PC based programs. You run them, plug in your phone and click the Root button, and then if it is possible to root your phone without unlocking the bootloader, one of those tools will most likely be able to do it.
If neither work, it probably isn't possible without unlocking the bootloader. But look in the device specific forum for your device for more guidance before unlocking the bootloader.
EDIT: It looks like currently you must unlock the bootloader for the Xperia S. There is no working exploit for rooting. The tools I advised above won't work. If you're not willing to unlock your bootloader, you can't root at this time.

[Q] About Unlocking, Flashing and Rooting

Hi, I am new to XDA and this is my first ever post, so Devs, be easy on me.
I own a Sony Xperia SP device (c5302) which is currently running Android 4.3 (12.1.A.1.201) and I want to gain root access on my device.
I looked at several tutorials and videos and found that I need to have the Bootloader unlocked first of all. I am not sure about the exact procedure as every tutorial follows a slightly differently process.
Here are my questions as a newbie.
I want to know that what losses can I have if I try to unlock my bootloader?
After rooting, will I be able to get the same android and build version running on my device i.e. Android 4.3 and build 12.1.A.1.201?
Will I be able to get future updates from Sony that are shown in the phone as notifications as and when the updates arrive?
Is it possible to bring my phone back to the same condition it is in today? Like it was never rooted or the bootloader was never unlocked, because I want to avail warranty as well?
1. Warranty
2. Ofcourse
3. I think this is device / manufacturer specific...
4. You can always reflash to stock ROM, talking about bootloader some bootloaders can be unlocked but can't be relocked this is again device / manufacturer specific.

[Q] Stuck in a procedures loop

Ok so yesterday I've bought myself a "Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 23.0.1.A.5.77". Now I would like to root this device and probebly flash a custom ROM over it. So I started doing my research because I'm used flashing Samsung Galaxy S3 only.
So here's what happens:
1) To be able to root and/or flash your device, you must unlock your bootloader.
2) Unlocking your boatloader will cause the loss of your TA DATA / DRM keys. If you don't want to lose these permanently, please make backups first.
3) To backup your TA, it is required to root your device first.
And so we end up back on step 1 again. I hope any of you can understand my confusion and please point me into the right direction / threads to do this the correct way. Thanks in advance!:highfive:
Yes, that is the current situation.
Normally what you want is this
1) Root using a locked bootloader method
2) Backup TA
3) Unlock bootloader
4) Flash custom kernel/ROM
The problem we have is that there is NO way to root on a locked bootloader ATM for the Z3. So you have to unlock the bootloader without backing up the TA partition.
I have exactly the same situation... Ex user of a galaxy s3 and now using a Z3 Dual D6633...for now I'm waiting to see if something is possible...

It is not possible until there is root for a locked bootloader.
I am now unconvinced this will happen as Lollipop is 1-2 months away. It makes no sense to work on locked bootloader root for our current phones. (this is just my opinion, it may still happen)
Thanks for the info! Guess it's best to wait for better methods first. And ye, I agree. With Lollipop comming out anytime soon, it's best to wait for that.

Need help to get this on my Xperia Z5 (E6653)

Hey everybody I really want to install this on my Xperia Z5 and I'm a total newbie in Android Development, rooting and stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-n-style-xperia-x-systemui-v1-themes-t3368086
This one is for Z5 and I really like to have this on my phone, The difference of this with the other ones in "Cross Device Development" is that it doesn't require root, I don't want to root my phone nor unlock my bootloader and I think I can't cause in Service Menu; bootloader unlock is not allowed as I'm on Vodafone UK.
This mod requires Deodex and then flash via recovery, What I'm asking is that doesn't installing a recovery or to deodex using it require root?, correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that there's already a recovery available on the Z5 if so can I flash that using Sony's own recovery?
In short is there anyway to install this on my Z5 Without rooting?
Cheers mates!

No, you can't. You can't flash anything not-sony-signed on stock phone.
Locked bootloader with stock kernel is completely closed and protects system partitions.
You must unlock you bootloader to do anything you can find in these forums. Absolutely no other way.
If you wish, you can try searching on Play store an app (launcher) that emulates Xperia X home launcher. If there's any, it will be limited in comparison with the solution provided in the thread above, as it will not change System UI elements.
Regarding unlocking, please enable "OEM unlock" in developer settings (tap many times on "build number" in settings -> phone info ). Try again to check your Unlocking possibility in service menu.
Thank you, thank you very much for your reply, The Xperia X launcher is already available on Beta Home Program, however it's the lockscreen I really really like, such a shame that you can't get it without root.

Xperia z3 d6633 23.5.a.1.291 (dual sim)(help)

So basically I want to root my phone.
As mentioned in the title above, this phone of mine exists nowhere as per MY knowledge in being root-able.
This phone was able to be rooted in lower versions. Now I don't think it exists.
1) THE OFFICIAL SONY SITE, won't let me unlock the bootloader.
2) Without unlocking the bootloader I THINK I won't be able to flash a custom ROM.
3) I need help with this.
-Unlocking the bootloader.
-Rooting it
-Getting the best custom rom
-MAYBE being able to use Nougat.
So can anyone on this website kindly help me?
I am a noob and am pretty new, so my knowledge is low, but I am looking forward to root this device now.
Regards
