I finally reverted back to GB after pretty much trying every ICS ROM.
All ICS ROM's feel slightly laggy no matter the ROM or the kernel and no matter the combination.
The latest I tried was Kangy6 with stevegaron's kernel which seemed the most fluid of all combinations.
However, comparing it with my stockish with Franco's 8dec kernel makes ICS feel slow in comparison.
Am I the only one?

nope...I flashed ICS on the release day...went back to GB in the evening never look back.
Nope, never returned to GB since the release of 4.0.3. Though I almost tried all ROM-Kernel combo just to find what suits to my phone and preference.

The only thing that would make me go back to GB would be the browser, it is horrible on ICS.
I can't believe that Google's own beta testers never picked up on it.

horrible? don't understand. The stock ICS browser is superb with lots of inovations I really don't know what seems bad for you in it.
I was on ICS for quite a long time but because of warranty I had to return to stock GB and I agree with you sabaramo, ICS feels slower and laggy.
Stock ICS browser is the only thing making me go back to ICS!
Otherwise everything on GB is a LOT smoother and snappier.

I agree, I flashed just about every ICS room out there and the browsers were slow and laggy and it pushed me back to my favorite GB ROM (Petes GB BB). I don't know if its because i'm on a NS4G our what but it WAS horrible for me too I until I flashed gummy nexus v6.1 with Steve Garons kernel and now everything is perfect and the best browser i've ever used A for stock. You might want to try that combination out it changed the way I viewed ICS and now is my daily.
had to roll back from 4.0.x to 2.3.x due many Apps not running properly or not compatible with 4.0.x

Currently waiting for a stable ICS rom not in the alpha/beta stage.
yes.that's good!

And it is far optimized better than what your used to. You really don't know what optimization is until you optimize on the next level. Any nexus running ics will be left in the dust. I made these optimizations to an already very well optimizatied ROM.

Funny you should say that. The youtube Nexus S GB vs ICS videos that i've seen seem to suggest GB being faster and smoother in side-by-side comparisons. I'm in no hurry to switch!

I myself is using modified CM7.1RC0AOSP2.3.7GB as base. But far as CM9AOSP4.0.3ICS goes its still not ready for folks like me for DD yet.
As I described below how extensively its optimized and most of it is outside the scope of current XDA.
What you have to understand is performance is not measured via synthetic benchmarks (ex: Quadrant). The biggest issue with people is that they don't know enough to know that they don't know, so they compare it with silly numbers (ex: score) they can't comprehend what they see, much less put numbers behind real life activities that's not applicable in controlled environment.
OS development which eliminates most of it but on software level custom base rom (ex: CyanogenMod) is highly optimized and tweaked to run on optimal performance. Mostly, but not all. But does it mean it can't be tweaked any further? (Rhetorical) No. How do I know? We (scope outside of XDA) tweaked it to the next level. How you ask?
1) Optimized ext4fs: reduced r/w rate (healthy NAND lifespan), improved journaling (corrupted data writeback integrity) = Which improves the IOPs and performance access rate.
2) HC3.x fugu binaries, patched sqlite libraries, mSD read ahead buffer fix.
3) Modified VM: OOM (Out Of Memory), LMK (Low Memory Killer), VM heap (Virtual Machine), DRA (Dirty Ratio), DBR (Dirty Background Ratio), DWC (Dirty Writeback Centisecs), DEC (Dirty Expired Centisecs), SWP (Swap), VCP (VFS Cache Pressure).
4) Increased minfree value: Background, Foreground, Empty, Hidden, Visible, Secondary, Content.
5) Optimized cache: File and Drop cache, Forced cache (resident loop).
6) Custom kernel: OC/UC, UV/SVS/VDD, BFS/CFS, RSU/NP/VR/SP supported.
7) Custom ROM: Optimized Rom script and props (ex: CyanogenMod).
this as its tweaked to THE next level. I'll stick with AOSP2.3.7GB until ICS4.X is more stable and we understand more as most memory grouping and adjustments might be changed.
I bet most of you only do 2 of those thing (6&7)
How do the jelly beam ROMs run on the s3? I'm addicted to it on my nexus will it perform as well on the S3?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just got my S3 and rooted/unlocked/backed up IMEI then began to flash. Right now running Paranoid Android and looking for a good kernel. But it's running very smooth and I haven't found any bugs with the latest build on PA. When I say smooth I mean Nexus 7 smooth. Jellybean on the Gnex seemed to get bogged down at times but haven't found that at all on the S3.
I had to do something quick though as Touchwiz is just not for me.
Yeah I thoroughly dislike touchwiz (minus the camera features). So jb functions properly and flies on the jb ROMs available then?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You will be pleasantly surprised how well JB runs. I have to UC my phone because its not necessary to run it at stock speeds on AOSP roms.
The Devs are making great strides on fixes and putting out some great JB roms. from CM10, Liquid, AOKP and soon BAMF Paradigm you'll find something you'll like

I wonder what's the fastest stable rom for the verizon Galaxy S3, in terms of Speed and performance, Personally I think Senergy is the one, any other Ideas... thanks
I think it comes down more to how bloated/bloatfree the rom is and the kernel imo
I'm pretty happy with my JB AOKP rom, though and feel JB is quicker than ICS

CM10 nightlies are decently stable, very fast, ParanoidAndroid nightlies are pretty stable and fast. Synergy is good, but for me there was a delay in the screen unlocking and the in call volume setting won't stick. I've been using CleanRom 2 now, all is good
Clean ROM 2.0 is very fast an most of all, stable.

Personally I use almost all roms, and I was Senergy fan, but some how Clean Rom is the fastest, smoothest and most stable GS3 Rom I've ever seen, it's smooth like a babe, lol
I really got to try clean rom. I'm just too addicted to the dark horse rises theme and synergy's utter greatness. Personally I think right now (today) the jb rom's are just not there yet, but that's just me. Tomorrow is a different story.....

I much prefer CM10 to Synergy or Clean Rom. Tried them both and for some reason I just love the look and responsiveness of CM10 more. Granted there are data hiccups here and there but the latest nightly has fixed that issue. Try experimenting with different kernels and ROMs and im sure you will find a combination that works best for you.

TW has some good features I'd hate to give up - e.g. the video player, camera, music player are all fantastic apps, better than anything in AOSP.

The video player is outstanding although there you can run multiple programs in AOSP to replace it
I agree the camera is irreplaceable
I only use Play Music so I cannot comment too much on the TW music player
But ParanoidAndroid (scarce bugs aside) really is so unique I can't go back to TW at this current time
If you want stability go with 4.0

To be honest I've tried every Rom. And even stock this phone is buttery smooth. I have had almost every high end android phone Verizon has sold. The s3 is the only phone out of a about my 8 other phones I've had in the last few years that I have never seen lag or stutter. It is perfect and always smooth. Way better then the GNEX or rezound I had. I've had the s3 since launch in July and I have not seen it lag yet. This phone has truly impressed me and I'm very picky.

In my opinion the best rom I have used and still use is Aeon v1.4L or whatevver the newest one. Its still gingerbread but stable and gives me fast service speeds.
On gingerbread: miuiscotland_I997-2.4.17
On ICS: RemICS-UX
On JB: RemICS-JB or CM10
In my opinion:
For GB: ZEUS 6.0 or Aeon 1.4SL
For ICS: Uni-yuma-Porn B.40
And for JB: ParanoidAndroid
Hope this helps

GB. Stock rooted. Sorry to admit it but I had battery or lag issues with most of the others I tried.
ICS. Cm9- although its the only one I stuck with for more than a few days.
Job. Tried cm10 and paranoid android. I liked cm10 better. All the extras inPA weren't much use to me. GPS doesn't work well in any jb Roms though so I'm back on cm.
catyrom works pretty good. its GB with an ICS look.
paranoid android was good for me in both ICS and JB, however i have been running the Cypher ROM for the last 4-5 weeks and that is the longest i have been on one ROM in quite a while.
Zues has always been strong for GB too.
CM10 rocks
I have never tried any other than stock ROM until I saw JB released. I realized that I should have this on my Infuse.
I tried cypherROM, CM10 and ParanoidAndroid. To me I felt that PA and CM10 are almost same, but felt CM10 is faster(though they use same source).
cypherROM is different UI feel and I personally like it better than CM10 in terms of it's UI colors.
I've found that I simply hate ICS and JB. As far as I'm concerned, the "best" ROMs are either a rooted and slightly customized stock UCLB3, or CM7.2.

Scott's CM10. Use FasterGPS, and change your GPS settings according to instructions in the thread. The initial lock will take a while, but after you get the first lock, it's within a matter of seconds that I can lock onto 7 satellites within SECONDS inside work, (which is an all metal building that is an auto dealer). I don't know about Bluetooth, since I don't use that function, but I have no issues with the camera at all, or internet speeds. I am extremely happy with CM10, and the ability to overclock easily.
Hi I am kind of new to the ROMs so I was wondering if anyone could tell me which ROM is more stable, fast, and has no lag.
The PACman All In One or CM10:HYBRID Paranoid Android?
Please leave replies, thank you!
That are both based off of CM10, so they should both be pretty stable, instability usually comes from over clocking and or under volting, in my experience anyway. I am running PACman myself.

They are both equally stable in my opinion. PACman no longer have the paprefs.apk built in, so you will have to push it yourself if it's something you want to utilize. I am currently running the latest version of PACman by gs2usr, but I switch between the two from time to time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I too am running gs2user's pac build. I've never ran a rom like this before or knew about paperf but not that I've learned how to use it, but it's a sick rom. I got pac flashed on my girls phone as well. In general I've noticed a bump in performance and I believe that the battery life is on par with both the collective release and blinkys revenge release.
