Lag in games, software issue or hardware issue ? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I keep reading about the one xl lagging seriously in games, but that was on launch, was this fixed or was it really a hardware thing? I post on Internet say the gpu is not very power and what is probably causing the lag
Also is the battery life really better than the international one x? as you can assume in torn between getting the lte version or the international version
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I haven't run into any lag problems in any games I've played so far (ranging from GTA III to Angry Birds Space). The GPU in the XL is actually quite powerful, the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 is quite peppy.

On my AT&T version, I find some lag on Words with Friends and also the Farsight Pinball app. I think it is due to their app coding needing to be updated to work better with ICS though and not due to poor phone hardware. Battery life is slightly better than my SGS2 in my opinion.

I get lag frequently while playing Baseball Superstars 2012. I didn't have this problem at all on my rooted Rezound on ICS.

I found that with a modified host file [AdBlocker] games like Baseball Superstars are laggy before I went to 1.85. However, It is possible its not 100% compatible with our phones yet. Some tethering apps aren't :/ Or weren't when I checked.

I'll disable Adfree later tonight and give it a go. Thanks!

I don't think it's ics's fault or the lack of optimization for it, my Galaxy Nexus has no issues with games, I think perhaps games for the s4 gpu haven't been optimized or indeed the gpu is not powerful enough to run games at 720p

Dunno if this applies to us, but I saw this on the main site:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/get-rid-of-occasional-game-lag-on-the-htc-one-x/

No issue with mine, and yes, the battery life is longer on the XL

Tegra 3 games are so enticing...

I know we have the more battery efficient (and in a lot of areas more powerful) chipset, but everytime I look at those Tegra only games I get jealous. I mean is there a possibility our chipset will be able to produce the same quality of graphics when these games are released for the Tegra devices? I would hate to have to trade up over something so trivial, but I really like to game.
I'm thinking that the battery life can be greatly improved on the Tegra devices with custom ROMs and Kernels. I mean the new Nexus tab has a Tegra, so it must be a reliable piece.
Thoughts?

I'm researching right now if the s4 will be capable of pumping out similar quality when the game dev's optimitze for our chipset.

This.
Out phone was the first phone with the S4, you need to give developers the time.
A TON of phones, including the Stateside Galaxy S III will be having the same chipset/gpu as ours, and developers will not want to miss out on such a huge population.
I have some tegra games on my phone. I use chainfire3d to trick the play store and get to download and play the games

How well do they run?
I can't wait to get my Nexus 7. Tegra 3 games on a 7" screen are going to be seriously amazing. I really hope Gameloft releases Nova 3 for it, because it is seriously the best FPS ever made for mobile devices. It already kicks ass on my One X, it will be bad ass on the Nexus 7.

Just order the Nexus 7 and use it as a gaming device. Problem solved

International GNex vs HOX graphics processing (maybe?)

I've been hopping back and forth lately between my AT&T HOX and the GNex I bought from the Play Store. I love them both, really, but one thing I noticed is that my under clocked (1 GHz) GNex consistently runs Temple Run more smoothly than my stock, unrooted HOX. Maybe I don't understand hardware very well, but I don't think this should be the case, should it? For what it's worth, I'm running Trinity Kernel on my Nexus. I think the GPU might be over clocked, but I don't know much about GPUs.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The GPU in the Snapdragon S4 is far more powerful than the old SGX 540 used in the GNex. If you are running Jellybean on your nexus, that would likely explain the difference, as it introduces smoother graphics processing.
Plus HTC sense, while it has improved over time, is still a resource hog.

Thinking of getting a Galaxy Ace II - Good choice?

It seems that the Galaxy Ace II's can be picked up ow for £130 which seems like a great price for a dual core phone.
Just a few questions before I buy though.
When is JB officially going to be released?
Does Gingerbread run smooth enough on the device?
Is web browsing relatively lag free?
Does Skype work without issues? (Crashes constantly on my current phone(
Do the vast majority of games run within any lags/issues?
Cheers

Yes it's very smooth, and if jelly bean hasn't so awesome features I don't want anything else than GB
Yes it is. And for me a lot of faster than with my galaxy 3.
Don't know. Sorry... But viper works perfectly.

All games on JB are smooth ( but no dark knigt) on GB some games have lag
I have problems with skype all the time (GB/JB)
Phone is smooth after good config (rom, kernel, launcher)

-I like the phone.
-Performance is great.
-Skype works good... Never had any issues with it.
-Don't know about Jelly Bean as need to see it to believe in it.
As far I'm concerned is only a rumour gone wild...
-But gingerbread is smooth and is so different from the original ace.
Almost hard to believe is just gingerbread...
-Factory widgets are great and all runs really nice. Plenty of ram.
(I didn't root this phone yet ) as I didn't found the need to do it yet.
(unlike on the original ace)
If you get this phone, you will not be disappointed.

I have one ace 2 and my girlfriend have one ace 2.I have right now JB and she stock GB.We both have that same problem: (wifi/3g with no limit): 6/10 conections are going down after 30min and sometimes skype crash our phones (restart or freez, only put out battery can help) But skype have problems on another phones to like (nexus 4, lg 4x, galaxy s plus)

Hello,
I'd also like to give you my thoughts on the Ace 2. You are right, it's a great phone for the price. But what I came to realize after 3 Android phones is that I don't like Touchwiz, HTC Sense etc. I will buy a Nexus 4 soon.
But to be clear, that is just my personal preference. If you don't mind these software changes made by the manufacturers than go for the Ace 2 I don't have any problems with Skype either, games are running fine and the developer community seems active.
JB will definitely come soon since there are already leaks around, they are made by Samsung, so obviously they are working on it.
The phone is good, feels good in the hand, does what it should and if you root it, which was made very simple by the way, you can easily overcome most of its weaknesses.
Hope I could give you some good info. Peace

I have owned the ace II for 6mths, now and I would say it is a great phone for the price if you believe the rumours JB, is on its way,
I would say though the phone as it is , is a good little phone,so in answer to your questions ,YES to all.
buy and enjoy. Cheers Xenoblade.
If you are an end user you could go for it.. or if you starve for development you might consider getting an HTC Sensation

It's not as smooth as Galaxy SII, but battery time is much better with our Ace 2. For me it was fast enough, the only thing that annoyed me on GB was the lag between unlocking and staring the phone app. It was usually 7-10 seconds, sometimes it started instantly.
Now with JB Leaked it starts, faster, less time to start in worst scenario and it starts instantly more frequently.
I want AOSP for out phone, used it on friend galaxy gio and it's so fast with only a single core 800Mhz processor.
Yeah SGG is a good phone, used to have it but it breaks

Chip configuration, lag?

I want this phone. Badly. I have a ONE, and really dig it but battery is its downfall. I'm curious to see how this phone performs with this chip set. I am not a gamer, with exception of angry birds, but use the dog out of my phone on Internet, watching videos, etc. I'm thinking I won't be able to see a difference in 720 screen, but am curious if there is discernable lag with lack of processing power. Anyone's opinions are appreciated.

Performance is fine. Don't sweat it. It's a fast, modern processor.
Cool. Just cautious on the first model of any new tech

To be honest the other vendors are adding so much crap on top of android that they need the extra power. As you can see the extra power doesn't really help because even the gs4 lags. Moto did a great job of taking hardware and building software that works specifically for it. It shows how powerful a phone can be without all the extra gimmicks and cores... This phone is a beast. I would like to see any phone be as fluent as this one minus an iPhone.

To be Honest, I just cam from a s4 and believe it or not, I havent had an lag or stuttering from the ultra like I did with the s4. Besides the camera. I think the ultra is a better phone. I cant tell the difference between the 1080p and the 720p screens.
I have experienced exactly 0 lag since I bought the phone last weekend with heavy web usage. It feels snappier than my nexus 4.

Note Pro BAD graphics?

Hi,
As the title is saying, the graphics performance on this 800€ tab is TOO BAD.
I have the exynos version, so I don't know How the snapdragon version is.
Any suggestions? Any experiences? Asphalt 8 is unplayable!:banghead: It runs much better on an single cone device! Do you think Samsung will ever do something?
Lots of regards, prohackerbro

Bad on asphalt 8 yes, the high settings seem to practically bring the exynos processor to its knees while on asphalt 7 game play is buttery smooth. Whether gameloft will do any further optimization for this tablet remains to be seen. I'm not a gamer so I could care less but I feel for those who expect high performance from a tablet this expensive. It sure would be nice to play games on a large screen device like this using a game controller.

I would suspect it's the game not being optimized to run on the hardware. I can think of a handful of other games with great graphics that have no trouble running on this tablet. I would think if it was the hardware, those high detail games would have issues too.
That and gameloft has kinda been slow to update its games for newer hardware. I can think of a couple of their games that had issues with new devices, took them months to release a update, after that the games ran well.
Yup. Certainly the resolution will be an issue too but again, the game developer has to make adjustments to account for it.

This is an example of a game badly optimized for the exynos. The exynos is almost identical to the snapdragon in terms of power and performance however snapdragon gets more dev love. Any game that is properly optomized though will look gorgeous on this tablet and play very well. I havent had any game iv chosen to install play any less than fantastically. If you want c ok ntact the devs of asphalt and ask for it to be fixed. It isnt samsungs fault. Snapdragons have lte built in so it was more effective to go with the exynos for the wifi model.

XCOM Enemy Unknown is another example of bad optimization on Exynos devices. Low fps, stutter and lots of crashing.
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
I'll be getting my P905 (the snapdragon version) tomorrow, I'll be sure to give you feedback on this matter when I get the time.
I find this rather funny, because the Note 3 Exynos has exactly the same problem.. As does the S4 Exynos..... And from both the Snapdragon device has no issues at all.
Lesson to be learned here: Don't buy a device with an Exynos if there's a Snapdragon edition as well.
I've never had any problems with any Exynos-based chip. That said, the Snapdragon version is always better IMHO.
