Ive been on verizon for years and made the switch over to at&t to get the one x and have to say Im loving it. At&t has really made big improvements to there network as far as everywhere around my area goes.
Here is whats going on though:
Every now and then I can pull my phone out and turn the screen on to see it show full bars E then 5 seconds later it will change to full bars G then another 5 or so seconds full bars 4G. Its not a big deal but just wondering is it normal?
Another thing Ive noticed is when I leave my driveway of my house and get out of range of my wifi it will go to no service then to 4g. Its fairly quick but I dont remember it with any other phone Ive owned.
Could be signal issues with your towers or a sim card issue .

Its not the service its the phone. It takes a while to realize the data connection has changed and therefore updates it slowly. You should be fine its just annoying as hell if you are watching it all the time.

Yeh its more of a mental thing than anything. It hasnt every caused me problems as actually using the phone but watching it cycle through E-G-then 4G a few times every day is starting to get to me. Ive tried all the radios also and Im currently on 1.88 as it seems to have the best speeds. Maybe I should try a new sim.

While this does sound like a bug could it also be a power saving feature designed to put the phone in the lowest power state when there has been a long rest in data or another source, WiFi, is available?
It went away with the vivid when lte went active...

I was having similar issues until I upgraded to the 1.88 RUU. Now I'm running CM9 with no data issues. I think it is the phone or rather the software. Data would stay on E but there was no signal. Had to reboot the doggone phone ever so often just to connect to data.

Big Time problems! It started a week ago where I lost data and was advised by Rogers techs to "Try" a bunch of things and was told to do a "Factory Data Reset". I hated to but they said it was the thing they knew to try. Did it and got data backi for a few days and now I have NO Service and can't connect at all. They are sending new phone and will be here hopefully tomorrow.
It's 4 g lte and never switches and when I look at data it just said connecting and when put in and out of airplane mode it said connected and then works

I think i had this problem, lost all data connectivity until i either restarted or toggled airplane mode.
My sim didn't look like it was correctly installed because the tray was protruding a little bit. I removed the sim tray and messed with the card a bit, it looks like it fits better and i haven't had a problem in 2 days.
Battery has also been better since then, hope this helps if we're having the same problem.
I'll try it thanks

Battery hasn't been lasting as long recently, only getting about 2 hours of screen on time... Can anyone tell what this is using up my battery? Thanks :/
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
what was your talk time and how was the service where you were located. Talking draws almost as much battery as the screen, so if you were on the phone for an hour or so it would likely be equivalent.
1 hr 15min
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Do a hard reset and charge the phone up fully before using it. If that doesn't work exchange it for a new one.
Also make sure all haptic feedback is turned off. When you aren't using data for several hours make sure to turn that off as well, especially if you are in an LTE area.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Does haptic feedback really affect battery that much? I wish there was an lte toggle
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Tooany variables affect it.
- Do you set screen brightness to the highest?
- Do you live in an area with patchy signals?
- What was included in 2 hour screen time?
When surfing on WiFi with 40% brightness, I lose about 1% current in about 3.5 - 4 min. If that is the range than yours might be fine or mine is also screwed up.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I have brightness on auto, and most time is spent on twitter, xda, Facebook, Web browsing, text, email.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I would also run battery drain test from one of the HTC utilities. On mine, the battery went from 100% to 91% in an hour. Did anyone else here performed it and could please share their numbers?

There is no way to turn LTE off on this phone. I personally tried all suggested methods on another thread. None of them work.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
doesn't seem to abnormal to me...2 hours screen time with over an hour talk time is pretty decent over a full day. My only gripe would be to turn brightness down to about 20% unless you are needing to use your phone outside all day. it is more than sufficient and your eyes get used to it quickly. saves a ton of battery.
I am getting anywhere between 2:30-3:30 screen time with about a half hour of talk time. so many variables its hard to nail down, but try out what ppl have suggested. I also turned off haptic feedback the moment I got the phone. check how many apps you have syncing as well. that can eat up battery especially with bad coverage.
good luck
Luckily I'm in a non lte area. Avg 4 hours of screen time. Battery lasts me a couple of days, but I don't use my phone much. When custom roms hit there will be a lte on/off switch.

Google around for HSPA+ only APNs for AT&T. When you enter them, be sure to put an asterisk in the "APN Type" field, otherwise the phone won't let you select that APN set.
That's how I got LTE to shut off on my phone.

I tried a couple of APN settings but, none worked. Wondering if you could plz share the screenshot.
Edit:
I tried the APN setting suggested in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652705&page=3
and it seems to be working so far.
Though, it should be noted with the S4 chipset that turning off LTE doesn't net you as much battery life as it used to. Though it does help with the network drops if you experience them. (I have.)
In response to the thread, though: My battery life has jumped the shark since updating to 1.85. Like, I was getting close to 17 hours mixed-use before my phone was in the red. Now, I'm lucky to get 8. I'm running it through a few more charge cycles just to make sure, but it seems pretty nasty.
EDIT: Screenshots:

After: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4940279/images/after.jpg (1.85)
Notice I had to charge the phone halfway into the 8 hours just to keep it from dropping completely.

I don't receomend this if you don't know what you're doing. But I took the phone case off and re-bent/aligned the contacts for the wifi using a pair of needle nose pliers. They're copper contacts so easy to bend back but also easy to break as well. In the end my wifi was better.

HTC knows about this issue, software can help but won't fix it entirely. HTC claims they are working to fix it for future production. I guess just wait until they fix the physical problem and then claim warranty, you have at least 10 mos left. They owned up to it recently so if you complain they will probably keep you happy.

It can, but you basically have to use the back casing as a punching bag, and I suspect that you will probably crack the case before you cause the same issue.
When I turn vibration on under settings>sounds whenever the phone vibrates, it rattles pretty loudly. Maybe there is stuff loose back there and that's why my wifi fluctuates a lot.

There's something wrong with my wifi too (Rogers HTC One X) -- wifi signal strength is typically about 20dB worse (that's 100 times less signal power for those of you who aren't familiar with decibels) compared to my laptop or blackberry in the same location, and I get "not in range" on the phone when my laptop has 3-4 out of 5 bars. It doesn't seem like exactly the same problem as the international version, since I can't make it better by pressing the case by the camera and volume up, but it does seem like some kind of hardware/antenna issue.
(FWIW, I'm on version 1.94 software (Rogers OTA update), and I've selected "2.4GHz only", and "best wifi" in the settings)
I've noticed that mine fluctuates when I hold it in different ways. It's like the iPhone 4 grip problem when it first came out but this seems worse. I barely have to touch the bottom of the phone for the signal to drop. Also, I noticed that sometimes I can't connect to the same wifi hot spots as other phones / other devices I've had. It's like it doesn't have the same range.

Same here. As I type this I am watching the Wifi oscillate between one and four 'bars'. The other day the hox was dropping the connection altogether and I was constantly switching between 3g and wifi
When I first got my phone it would get into a cycle of losing Wi-Fi connection, switching to data, then back to Wi-Fi repeatedly. It kept doing this until I turned Wi-Fi off for about 5 minutes. It seems to not happen as much on a different ROM than stock.
This happened even with good signal. Also I don't have any signal issues, signal strength is always as strong as it should be.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I had Wifi issues when I first got my One X where I would get weak signal or it would constantly drop. Also, when i would go in to or out of a Wifi hot spot I would lose data for a few minutes unless I toggled airplane mode. Once I unlocked my phone and out on CleanRom, some of the issues seemed to be resolved. Now I am on CR 4.5 Dev and AT&T 2.20 radio and I don't have the issues anymore.

1. Belongs in Q&A
2. Are you rooted?
3. If so, What ROM, kernel?
4. Did you do a clean flash or you didn't wipe?
5. Check if you have signal it could be just dead areas you're in.
6. If stock, it's probably due to bad signal.

I was having the same issue with calls and voicemails. So called att and they reset my connection and put in a ticket.
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
i had this exact problem.
att first reset my sim card or something via phone support. nothing.
they then replaced my phone with a new one x. nothing.
reset my sim. nothing.
replaced my sim. nothing.
at that point i guess i was SOL. it wasnt happening all the time, but it was happening occasionally, so i just bared with it.
i dont know when i noticed it stop happening and fix itself, but it wasnt till after i achieved root and flashed a different rom that i noticed it gone completely.
i do live in an area that has poor reception for most carriers, yet down the street reception is perfectly fine.
i would miss calls, and not receive missed call notifications. i did not receive texts at times, and wouldnt notice till i was flooded by a few text messages all at once with time stamps corresponding to past few hours. sometimes me using an app on wifi/data would trigger all my text messages to come in at once.
now, i know it wasnt necessarily an issue of reception or service, because during some of those "blackout" periods that i happened to catch, i did have service and would be using my phone for miscellaneous things, then get flooded by texts and email notifications later
hope this helps in some way
