this is a common problem in one x...
http://androidcommunity.com/htc-one-x-wi-fi-problems-confirmed-as-hardware-issue-says-htc-20120618/
read the article.. and try to press behind the phone and check if strength varies....
it does.. claim warranty .. get a new one ..
hmm interesting, thanks
I don't receomend this if you don't know what you're doing. But I took the phone case off and re-bent/aligned the contacts for the wifi using a pair of needle nose pliers. They're copper contacts so easy to bend back but also easy to break as well. In the end my wifi was better.

On my second phone and it's still doing it.

Try the telus radio, seems to have fixed my WiFi problems.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
which one is telus radio? and would it work normally with my at&t network?
HTC knows about this issue, software can help but won't fix it entirely. HTC claims they are working to fix it for future production. I guess just wait until they fix the physical problem and then claim warranty, you have at least 10 mos left. They owned up to it recently so if you complain they will probably keep you happy.

Ive been on verizon for years and made the switch over to at&t to get the one x and have to say Im loving it. At&t has really made big improvements to there network as far as everywhere around my area goes.
Here is whats going on though:
Every now and then I can pull my phone out and turn the screen on to see it show full bars E then 5 seconds later it will change to full bars G then another 5 or so seconds full bars 4G. Its not a big deal but just wondering is it normal?
Another thing Ive noticed is when I leave my driveway of my house and get out of range of my wifi it will go to no service then to 4g. Its fairly quick but I dont remember it with any other phone Ive owned.
Could be signal issues with your towers or a sim card issue .

Its not the service its the phone. It takes a while to realize the data connection has changed and therefore updates it slowly. You should be fine its just annoying as hell if you are watching it all the time.

I have never seen that on any of my devices ?

Yeh its more of a mental thing than anything. It hasnt every caused me problems as actually using the phone but watching it cycle through E-G-then 4G a few times every day is starting to get to me. Ive tried all the radios also and Im currently on 1.88 as it seems to have the best speeds. Maybe I should try a new sim.

I'd just like mine to quit getting stuck on EDGE when I've got an HSPA+ tower about 300 yards from my house

Did you ever get it resolved?
While this does sound like a bug could it also be a power saving feature designed to put the phone in the lowest power state when there has been a long rest in data or another source, WiFi, is available?
It went away with the vivid when lte went active...

I was having similar issues until I upgraded to the 1.88 RUU. Now I'm running CM9 with no data issues. I think it is the phone or rather the software. Data would stay on E but there was no signal. Had to reboot the doggone phone ever so often just to connect to data.

I dropped my phone and since then I don't have a GPS signal and I can only talk with the speaker on, let just mention that the screen is broken as well but it doesn't bother me.would any of you hardware savvy know how to fix the problem, or should I get a new phone all together with the insurance($200 excess)

I was just wondering if any of you guys has experienced losing GPS signal and voice signal while GPS is used? I have had this happened to me several times. I was driving with GPS on and suddenly the phone just lost all signals. It'd not be that bad if the issue came from poor signal, but after that, it never regained signal. I had to manually turn on and off all the signal switches several times before it could reconnect.
Was there a triangle in the upper left side of the notification bar?

I don't think there was, the phone just lost signal completely. And it happened on 4.0.3 as well as 4.0.4

I would definitely recommend getting a replacement Phone, assuming you still can. If not, then you can try 1) restarting the phone 2) wiping and starting from new (backup first!)
I wish I could but I'm way out of the 30 days replacement. And I think it's software related as it doesn't happen that often and when it works it works real well too.
And I always wipe completely before installing new rom, but it still happened on 2 kernels. I'm thinking it maybe heat related as I was mounting it on the dash. Any thoughts?

It's very unlikely that its because of the dash. But you can check to see if the GPS locks at all by downloading an app called "GPS Test" by Chart cross Limited from the Play Store and see if the GPS even works. Good luck.

My replacement HOX's wifi is fluctuating a lot. Do our phones suffer from the same wifi problems as the international version?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
No. The international version has antennas in a different spot than the evita.

It can, but you basically have to use the back casing as a punching bag, and I suspect that you will probably crack the case before you cause the same issue.
When I turn vibration on under settings>sounds whenever the phone vibrates, it rattles pretty loudly. Maybe there is stuff loose back there and that's why my wifi fluctuates a lot.

Wasn't there someone who had rattling with vibration on? MetalHead maybe?

There's something wrong with my wifi too (Rogers HTC One X) -- wifi signal strength is typically about 20dB worse (that's 100 times less signal power for those of you who aren't familiar with decibels) compared to my laptop or blackberry in the same location, and I get "not in range" on the phone when my laptop has 3-4 out of 5 bars. It doesn't seem like exactly the same problem as the international version, since I can't make it better by pressing the case by the camera and volume up, but it does seem like some kind of hardware/antenna issue.
(FWIW, I'm on version 1.94 software (Rogers OTA update), and I've selected "2.4GHz only", and "best wifi" in the settings)
I've noticed that mine fluctuates when I hold it in different ways. It's like the iPhone 4 grip problem when it first came out but this seems worse. I barely have to touch the bottom of the phone for the signal to drop. Also, I noticed that sometimes I can't connect to the same wifi hot spots as other phones / other devices I've had. It's like it doesn't have the same range.

Yeah, there was something wrong with the motor so I exchanged it. My current one had a LOUD motor when I first got it that sorta sounded like a rattle but it has settled in it seems. It's perfect now.

Same here. As I type this I am watching the Wifi oscillate between one and four 'bars'. The other day the hox was dropping the connection altogether and I was constantly switching between 3g and wifi
When I first got my phone it would get into a cycle of losing Wi-Fi connection, switching to data, then back to Wi-Fi repeatedly. It kept doing this until I turned Wi-Fi off for about 5 minutes. It seems to not happen as much on a different ROM than stock.
This happened even with good signal. Also I don't have any signal issues, signal strength is always as strong as it should be.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I had Wifi issues when I first got my One X where I would get weak signal or it would constantly drop. Also, when i would go in to or out of a Wifi hot spot I would lose data for a few minutes unless I toggled airplane mode. Once I unlocked my phone and out on CleanRom, some of the issues seemed to be resolved. Now I am on CR 4.5 Dev and AT&T 2.20 radio and I don't have the issues anymore.

My wifi doesn't fluctuate, I just have bad signal all the time ;_;
Has anyone had any cell service issues equivalent to that of an old iPhone?
It seems that if I hold my phone like a normal person I loose all service. Its better if I take the back cover off. I have also noticed NFC does not work with my back cover on. Has anyone else had these issues?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I have noticed simular issues in areas where signal is weak. Im thinking weak samsung radio or bad antenna design.

Im having poor signal myself. Hopefully another baseband update will help
My signal drops in and out every few minutes or so while I am at home in mediocre 3G. Super frustrating. However, when I am in a good 4G zone no worries.
This has been accentuated by moving to CM, I really hope the RIL fixes will help...
