Otterbox v Ballistic - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've always been a fan of the Otterbox Commuter series. I had one for my Desire Z, SG2 and Nexus.
However, I have to say the Ballistic is the better choice for the HTC One X for these reasons:
1. If you are going to use one of these types of cover (i.e. protecting your device is more important than aesthetics / worrying about your device outweighs the delight of a slim phone), you have to accept it is going to be a bulky brick no matter what anyone tells you.
2. For that reason, the aesthetics of the case should be consistent with something that is rugged and protective.
3. The Otterbox tries to convince you that your phone is still thin when it clearly isn't.
4. The Ballistic doesn't: it goes and adds another layer of plastic to make the phone look like something you would find in the military or on a construction site.
5. For that reason, it actually has some style whereas the Otterbox doesn't.
6. The Otterbox has annoying rubber flaps over all holes which don't serve any real purpose but are very annoying to open each time you want to charge the phone or plug in headphones. The Ballistic has none and nice big apertures for easy access.
7. The Ballistic is a lot cheaper than the Otterbox, particularly if you are ordering from outside of the US.
8. The Ballistic power button makes the One X's horrible button very pleasant to use.

+1 for the ballistic. Power button is a joy with it lol.

Another +1 for the Ballistic. I love everything about it and it is well worth the cost.

I have both and like them equally for different reasons. The Ballistic is more rugged and the buttons are WAY easier to use, but the Otterbox is slimmer and fits in my jeans pocket must better. I find myself switching them every couple days.

Commuter FTW
I have a different opinion here.
I prefer the Otterbox Commuter over the Ballistic SG.
When I held the BSG case, it felt like I was literally holding a black brick.
It is an ugly case, it has excessive rubber on the corners. The rubber is super THICK on the top and bottom. I couldn't even plug my L shaped headset jack into it and make it parallel to the phone to slide into my pocket. Granted I know my phone is safe in that case, but I feel the same way with the Commuter.
The commuter on the other hand makes the phone still feel slim. It adds minimal bulk. And this is obvious when I put my L shaped Jack in, I can actually slide it in properly and have it parallel to the phone.
It's easy to slide in and out of the pocket.
It looks good, not HOX naked good, but still looks good.
I do have to give the button operation to the BSG case, definitely easier with that case to click the power button and volume buttons.
I like the covers for the jack and power adapter, gives it a nice clean look with minimal gaps.
On the back the speaker cut out on the BSH showed the 1/2 the beats logo which irked me. The Commuter just has an opening for the speaker which looks clean.
Also with the BSG the rubber case is so thick that it is hard to touch the areas along the left and right side of the phone. This makes it very hard to put in and out of jeans or any pants in general.

+ another ballistix. Even if just for the power buttons. Works wonderfully.
It also offers pretty good protection and overall feel in the hand is good.
So far the best case I've seen for our ONE X.

+1 for the Ballistic. This came from my own experience with dropping my phone with the case on.
I was on a concrete platform and was trying to pull the phone out for a call. It slipped off my hand and fell from a height of around 8 feet. Hit once of the corner of the concrete platform and bounced away before hitting the ground. And obviously I was super terrified. But when I picked the phone up, there was no apparent damage that I could see. Removed the case and inspected every corner of the phone and everything looked the way it should. Regarding the case, the four rubber corners got some dirt and stuff; but it was easy to swipe them off. The case looks brand new. I'm very impressed with this case.

I just ordered my Ballistic from Amazon. I'll post a video review once I receive it.

I bought a commuter and its wretched... I felt like I was gong to break my phones screen trying to get it on (I had LCD ripples). Its REALLY hard to get off.. I like looking at how sexy not phone is and when you out the Commuter on its not coming off without a fight.

+1 Ballistic
I would say it depends what type of work environment you're in and how much protection you need for your HOX. I'm in an automotive shop and I've dropped my phone 7ft from a hoist to straight cement and still good. Mind you depends how it was dropped. I've had otterbox cases for various phones before and was never satisfied with the overall construction. My HOX feels very solid with the ballistics case and won't be changing it for anything else.

I haven't had a Ballistic on my HOX, but i did on my iPhone (please dont hit me..) anyway they have very high quality cases with no false advertising whatsoever, so another +1 for Ballistic

Defender ftw. $35 shipped from the US to Canada from Ebay.

Getting a new case: Slim, fit in pocket.

I've been using the CM Tough for a while now. While it's a great case for protection (very reassuring), its very bulky, and the silicone inner traps all sorts of dust and hair from the inside of my pockets.
For the past month or so, I've been walking around with my phone in my hand, fearing the attack of the lint, and wiping the lint and dust off the silicone whenever I could.
I've decided that if my friends can have sexy, slim cases for the iPhone, allowing it to come easily in and out of the pocket, there's no reason I shouldn't do the same.
Protection, for me, isn't that much of a problem. The easiest way to protect your phone is to basically not drop it, and in the half year I've had my phone, I've never dropped it once.
SO, I've been looking at...
The Momax iCase Pro: TPU sides and plastic back, slim.
SGP Slider: Hard case with cutouts for the volume/power. Looks rather slim.
Not a big fan of cases that don't cover the bezel. I honestly don't get the point, no scratch protection for bezel, and I can't put my phone face-down.
Are there any more cases I should be aware of? Are there people who can give a mini-review for the cases I mentioned above?
Thanks!
Have a look at this, just picked one up yesterday
http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Ga...axy-S-T-Mobile-Vibrant-Barely-There-Cases.asp
Fits perfectly on my European GT I9000, feels much nicer than bare phone or hard silicon case I previously used, and it's as easy to get out of your pocket as the bare phone. The only issue you might have is with the bezel, as it doesn't really cover it, rather it leaves the psuedo chrome visible, and only adds at most 0.5mm clearance if you place the phone face down.
Personally, I'm very happy with it. The phone is grippier, the volume and power buttons are much easier to use, and it looks good.
Headphone jack access is better too.
Read the reviews on the link.
Here's another I had a look at recently, seems to give great protection, but it's fiddly to get on and off if you need to do a battery pull, and I didn't like the squidgy button covers, but it might be more in the line of what you're after.
http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-Commuter-Series-Case/SAM4-GALXS-20-E4OTR_A,default,pd.html
I also use the Case Mate Barely There and it is the best I have tried so far.
It doesn't collect dust and the phone slides into the pockets.
I prefer the Momax. My workmate has the barely there, which is slightly slimmer but at the expense of losing some protection. The momax is the best option if you want slim but can still feel comfortable that your phone is safe imo.
I also had the toughcase and became frustrated with it for the same reasons as you. I'm very happy with the momax. Only issue is the power button is a bit harder to push now but a small price to pay.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Using the SGP Ultra slider, totally in love with it as i prefer to have direct access to hardware buttons
I have the Momax case and I have to say, it's pretty good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790318 - PhoenixFX has provided a review here.
Things i like:
It has a hybrid design, the back is not fully rigid but feels solid, soft sides.
Sides are flexible enough so that it goes on easy but stays in, also like how TPU doesn't become stretchy like silicone .
Lip that protects the screen, didn't notice too much dust getting in.
It's easy to keep a good grip on it.
Dislikes:
As the one posters above me said, the power button is harder to press. the same kind of applies for the volume keys but nor as much. It might be annoying in the long run.
Other than that the case is perfectly fine although I don't really know if it can be classified as slim by my standards , the back plate part is around 1.5mm thick. The back is a matte finish that doesn't offer too much grip but the sides are very grippy.
Hope this helps (I haven't tried any of the other cases so I can't really compare).
i think, case mate barely there is really good for slim profile somehow. and also capdase soft jacket xpose 2 also looks okay.
Check out carrymobiles, melko cases as well
I use the same Case-Mate Barely There case as DMD9, and I don't see myself changing it anytime soon. Very sleek, provides a little bit of a rubbery feel but not enough to make it difficult to slide out of pockets
After protecting my SGS like a baby for the last 11 or so months, it has suffered some damage here and there (home button doesn't work very well, scratches etc).
Thus I decided to ditch the case and go totally slimline with a replacement battery cover (the stock one is a fingerprint magnet, and I have kinda sweaty hands!). Ordered a silver one from focal price (the ones with the samsung logo, but clearly fake) and its a pretty good fit.
I totally recommend going caseless, it fits so well in the pocket when you go out!
I also support caseless usage,
I had a invisibleshield protector on the phone for a few months and that one worked well but it came off.
Now i still use the phone as if there was a protector on it and....not a scratch added.
the screen can really handle some abuse

Case for a HTC Desire Z

Well Ive pretty much gone always against the idea of getting a case but Im seeing one day my poor phone falling and breaking to pieces so rather be safe than sorry.
What I need:
- This is a question: Whats the difference between hard cases (plastic) and soft cases (rubber)? Obviously besides the material
- The phone with the case on MUST still be able to be inserted without major problems into the pockets of a jeans pants (I see this a bit for difficult for rubber cases)
- I would still like to access everything, button/port wise (except maybe the back cover)
- No difference in using the keyboard or the phone in general
- Very easy to remove and put on the case from and to the phone
- Seeing as the phone is kinda heavy as is, a light material would be nice.
- No reception issues
A clear or a green case would be my personal choices as clear the phone is still visible and I like the color green Also my media player use to have a kickstand which would be nice but I care less...
Thanks

Otterbox Commuter case. Solid and rugged case that can withstand almost any abuse you throw at it. Fits nicely into my jean pockets and is easy to whip out when I need it. All buttons and ports are easily accessible. Bulks the phone up just alittle, but I would rather have the bulk and have the phone survive a 4ft drop than have a cheap or flimsy case and have both case and phone go to the garbage.

1: Way too expensive
2: Bulks the phone up (making it hard to slide in a pocket quickly)
3: Very very bad looking
The quality looks OK (with port covers and everything) but those 3 things and after viewing a video just throw me off.
The difference is just how it feels on your hands. Rubber has a slightly softer feel while the plastic one is smoother but almost slippery (doesnt slip, just feels like it due to its smoothness)
Go for that case if anything. Another way to get a real feel is to drop by a tmo store. They sell both types (atleast where i live) and you can handle it to see if u like it.

I got the otterbox commuter a while back. it's nice, rubber inside, hard plastick outside, two layer case. There is rubber covers for usb and headphone jacks.
Case has nice texture on the backside, gives nice grip.
If you use headphone whit bulky 3.5mm like steel series siberia, it wont fit in whit the case. but any earplugs will fit just fine.
case makes the power button more easily accessible, like it.
the camera button is ****ed up. it's way to hard to press, and you dont feel the 2-stage shutter whit this case, you could easily cut the button covering part of tough.
i have put it back on and of multiple times, ans i'm not using it anymore, my front cover has 2 broken clips that keep to case on :/
i trust my grip enough, so i'm not using cases anymore, I have hard plastic shelled belt pouch to carry my phone, so if i fell of a bike or something hits me in the pocket, this case in pouch, phone will be just fine.

Better to be safe than sorry about making this costly investment.
I never said the rubber one doesn't have a grip. in fact, if i remember correctly, it has such a grip that it keeps on pulling my pockets inside out. go figure.
and as I said, drop by a tmo store and check it out. you'll feel the difference and it'll help you more than just words of explanations.

Goes into any pocket, no rubber annoying crap
Costs 3 bucks on ebay
Fits even with the 3600mah mugen battery (big plus for me)

Infuse: Qmadix snap on case and Holster review

Ok, so I picked up the Qmadix case for the Infuse and I have to say that I like it better than the Ballistic HC. A lot better.
Impressions
My first impression is that together, the case and holster is just over half the thickness of the HC case and holster. The appealing thinness of the phone doesn't get to shine in the super hefty HC, whereas in the Qmadix it's barely thicker than being caseless.
Of course this means that it doesn't offer the near-impervious feel that the HC offers.
The HC has a thick soft rubber housing around the hard case while the Qmadix has a rubberized hard snap-on shell. Great for adding grip when on tables or while driving, not great for drops, falls, or protecting the screen.
(The HC has a built in screen protector, the Q does not.)
Functionality
The volume and sleep/power buttons have cutouts. On the HC, there are rubber outer buttons that cover these and I can tell you from experience, they are easily accidentally pressed. I often found myself turning the volume back up.
The 3.5mm connector and microUSB connector ports are completely uncovered and that makes me a happy panda. I wasn't crazy about the rubber flap protectors on the HC because I'm always plugging the phone into headphones or my computer. Those are GREAT however if you're in a construction site or heavy work area (home renovations etc.)
The Q case is super light. I never noticed how much weight the HC added to the phone till I put the phone in the Q. Getting the phone into the HC takes a few minutes because the hard shell (for me) was just a pain in the ass to open and then getting the rubber tabs/dimples to line up was annoying. The rubber dimples that slide into the hard shell are CONSTANTLY coming out btw.
Putting the phone in the Q case took oh... about a second and a half. Every single hole lined up perfectly whereas on the HC I had to do some creative positioning to get the hard case closed.
Criticism
I really don't have much bad to say about the Qmadix. The Ballistic HC only loses points when directly COMPARED to the Qmadix. The HC is heavier but much more durable and will protect your phone from the accidents of life (other than you slamming your phone down because you suck at Angry Birds).
The only complaint I have about the Qmadix is that the rubber could be a bit more grippy and they could include a screen protector. But, it was supercheap through Daydeal.com (on ebay), so I can't really complain.
And now since people tend to click pictures rather than read, here are the pics.
YAY PICTURES! YOU GET US!
Lol. I'm really wanting a case with the holster, but I'm tired of seeing all these where the tab that holds them in is at the top of the phone or have to slide out of the top. That's why I'll just keep waiting for OtterBox.
I had the Otterbox Defender for my HD2 and the Ballistic is very similar in holding methods. Also equally as solid

I'm sure the buttons will work better with the otterbox. Plus as I said, don't like the holsters that release from the top of the phone when it's gonna be on my hip sideways.

[Review] Seidio Active Combo

If you’ve ever been a customer of Seidio before, then you know and expect the quality and craftsmanship that they put into their products. It is my pleasure to write that the Active case and holster combo for the HTC Sensation 4G meets nothing less than these expectations, and offers the level of comfort, protection, and functionality that is desired. As with their past products, Seidio has continued to masterfully craft the Active case to allow for full access to all functionality ports (charging, audio, camera, speakerphone, and buttons) on your device, and have done so without adding unnecessary weight or bulk to the overall feel. Additionally, the case is comprised of Seidio’s traditional soft touch material that is held in place by a heavy duty plastic shell, which maximizes the overall protection of the device and offers an unparalleled shock resistance. The holster is also made of Seidio’s heavy duty plastic, which holds the protected device very snug and safe with the assistance of the high quality clip up top. If you’re in the market for a case that will provide maximum drop protection for your HTC Sensation 4G and feel smoother and more streamlined than anything else currently available, then you can’t go wrong with the Active case and holster combo.
All of Seidio’s products are available at http://www.seidioonline.com/

Looks nice! I like the look of it. Kinda reminds me of a toughbook lol. But I love the look of the combo when put together. I may get a blue one to change it up a bit .
Great review! How does it fit on your belt? I currently have a universal pouch. It works but looks too bulky IMO. Also how hard/easy is it to take off? In case of the dreaded battery pulls for us rom flasher-compulsive types . LOL

It's great when applied to your belt. Very sturdy. I used a universal pouch before too, but this thing blows that out of the water. As far as taking it off, you can do so without even taking the shell off first. Just grab one corner and slide it back. Very easy, but putting it back on does require the soft touch case first then the shell. Doesn't take more than a few seconds though once you get the hang of it and the fit right.
Excellent review (pictures). Personally I love seidio and have used them on all my phones. Looking forward to getting this one.

I was contemplating on getting this one while waiting for Otterbox to release the Defender series on the Sensation.
Will probably get it and then the Otterbox one when it comes out to compare.
Got the same one and I love it. Good thing I have a holster cause the rubber parts is a lint magnet but wipes off easily. I love this case!

I just bought this and since theres no "plastic finger" holding the silicone down on the top by the power button you cant put it back in the holster with one hand. The silicone bunches up so you need to use one hand to hold the clip open and one to put the phone in the holster. I still think its a nice setup but wish there was an extra finger on the top.

Great review, Does it add a lot of thickness to the phone compared to a TPU case?
Ended up ordering this case from ebay because of your review. Also because my brother has had the Active X version on his iPhone 4. He has dropped it more times than he can remember. The case has chipped where it hit and the Zagg was scratched but the iPhone is in pristine condition.
I am extremely pleased with case, Feels great, Sturdy and I feel like it could actually survive a drop now. The only thing I don't like too much is the silicone jacket attracts lint and dust a bit but it doesn't stick to it and I can brush it off or blow it off quite easily. So if you're looking for a case that will protect your investment you won't go wrong here. Doesn't add much bulk to the sleek Sensation 4G.
Overall a great case, With superior protection.
I have this combo as well except in blue. It is very nice but I must agree with the post about wishing it had a hard plastic section on the top front of the case to make it easier to "pop" it into the holster. Can it still be done with one hand? Yes, but not as easily and this has already caused a couple of near drops due to it not clicking in just right.
Overall I'm very pleased but I've also ordered the Trident case to see if that one doesn't have this issue (hopefully it'll fit in my Seidio holster too).
I had one of these on my Droid X and i must say they hold up. took several skips across the concrete. no damage of any kind. think i need to order for my sensation too. cause i'm a auto tech and i always be around dangerous things. great review

I had one of these on my old Evo.The black soft cover is a huge lint/dirt magnet.I couldn't stand it,after about a week of use i threw it away.Frankly i loved everything else about this case, but the lint thing is a deal breaker for me.
i just ordered one off ebay, hopefully i like it. wanted it real bad actually, even though i pre-ordered an otter box case as well.

TPU + Hard Cover cases from China...good

I tend to prefer cases that have TPU on the sides and a hard cover for the rear. I also like cases that are sleek, especially in terms of how much material is around the screen. I dont like a ridge that is too high as it gets in the way of operating the screen.
I picked up this case from ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370678126009?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
For a "cheaper" case I am very impressed. Fit is snug and the all the openings line up perfectly. Only time will tell if the TPU sides will stretch over time and the phone gets loose but so far so good. The TPU is smooth and too "grippy" which I like. My only gripe is that the power and volume buttons lack any sort of feedback so its difficult to know that I am pressing the buttons. These buttons are also not that pronounced so its not easy to just feel for it.
Overall, I am very happy with this case regardless of the price.
Link is no good.
The buttons are not easy to press without a case and some cases make it easier some cases make it harder. I think a great bonus in a good case is making those frequently used buttons easier to find and press.
I have had my eyes on a very similar version to that case, but I'm not 100% it would fit the AT&T Version of the HTC One X.

I also have a nice cheapo tpu on mine which I prefer over my other otterbox (because of its size). I put a little duct tape on the inside of the power button and it works much better and easier.

I purchased this case.
I liked the way it looks, and i like the material composition.
I did not like how difficult it was to press the buttons down with the tpu.
but the thing that made me, ultimately, stop using this case was how smooth and slippery the matte plastic case was. it made it slide on all surfaces. it wouldnt stay on any slanted material(chair, laptop, car hood, and bed). it was very easy to drop, and wouldnt stay in my lap.
I just went back to my smoked tpu case, which has good button feedback and is just grippy enough, yet smooth enough to slide in adn out of pockets
For around $10 why not just pick up a diztronic case that's designed for the XL? Ebay cases are sometimes a mixed bag, if you go with a decent name at least you have some quality to expect. Even more so when the price point is similar.
