[Q] soft key backlight (key light) - HTC Desire S

Hello,
This is my first post, i'm facing a curious issue with the backlight of soft key not lighting anymore (the lights are on only on 4ext recovery) since i installed endy or PVT runny ROM. now i'm on Fallout and i would like to know if there is a specific parameter in the system that i may enable to bring back the lights.
Cheers

The specific parameter is called "darkness"
They do light up when is complete dark around you..

really ?
Dude, even in complete darkness (of the soul also ) they don't. is there a way to tune that stuff ?

That's strange. I'm on Fallout and my keys are lit even though it's quite bright. Do your keys light up at all on any ROM?

i can't findout
Well, they do lit on when i use apps like "screen filter" or when i'm on 4ext recovery touch, but they don't elsewhere, strange isn't it ?
rgds

Try covering the sensors and see if the light comes on. They're next to the HTC sign.

even in absolute darkness with my fingers on the sensor, no backlight on soft keys.
i'm sure there is a place where i can hit some parameters but i don't know where. if no one knows i'm gonna mount all partitions next weekend and find my way out of darkness. till then i'm back to black

Im facing this strange problem now with BlindICE 9.1.1. I used ParanoidAndroid 1.1.2 with auto backlight and it was like you said, if the backlight gets weaker the lights on the soft buttons light up.
Now with BlindICE and manual backlight, if i slide the backlight from low to high, the softkeys flicker... don't know if tis because of this specific rom, or another error.

gimme the light, tonight allright
Well well, no further steps to findout where the settings are done for auto-backlight.
I gueess Lowveld (big ping btw, and thanks for the great roms) know something about those settings, i remember some controls (rcmix i guess) where you can ajust the sensivity of the backlight and their brightness too.
Looking forword for some paths to follow
cheers guys

the exact same thing is happening with me, I'm running cm10 released on 16th nov by nk111 , on my desire s ..unlocked with htcdev..cwm recovery (touch version)..but the issue is as soon as the screen is turned of the backlight of the soft keys is again turned off.. which is quite annoying
one more thing i just found out is that , when i set my brightness to auto..the backlight on those buttons works just fine.. but i ussually do not keep it on auto..
did you find a fix for that?? please let me know also

[WM6] Wierd joystick problems

It's actually an older problem.
The joystick on SPV C600 with any non AKU 2.0 Orange rom just doesn't work as it should.
In WM5 and say.. a rom from I-Mate the joystick still works.. very bad.. but it still works.
In WM6 it's like almost completely dead (tried all the current cooked roms)
One stupid thing that I found is that actually pressing and holding a random key makes the joystick work.
Yup.. holding 6 or 2 or VOLUME DOWN actually makes the joystick work. What the?!
Has anyone encountered this problem?

I have the exact same problem. With the original C600 ROM from Orange, teh joystick will work. I tried several WM6 rom and Joystick is performing like yours. Cannot move up, hradly move down, but pressing the volume or any other key while moving the joystick will make it work perfectly.
Like you, I am at loss. Anyone has a clue on this behavior and how to fix it?
I have already observed this problem in this thread.
If someone ever bothers to reply to it, we may have a solution.
Wow, thanks - i thought my joystick is almost dead, as it sometimes takes like 3-4 moves to one direction for system to actually recognize one keypress of joystick, if the problem is only caused by softwware, there is still chance! (as the tornado is practically unrepairable in my country )

tilt & spray the joystick with deodorant (i've used denim )
Hi there DSF, I know about that fix for the hardware failure of the joystick but we're talking here about a faulty software.
Joystick failure related to software
In my case, the joystick problem is not a hardware failure
How do I know that? Simple:
I installed the original C600 Orange ROM and have no problem with the joystick. I then try back any of the WM6 out there and unfortunately, on all of them, my joystick will have issues. I even extracted the Keyboard.dll from the Orange Rom and incorporated in one of the WM6 rom but it did not fix the problem.
Is there more than one Joystick file that needs to be copied?
What is strange (and as stated in the first posting) pressing other button while moving the joystick will work fine
In the meantime, I reverted back to the original Orange Rom.
My belief is that by adjusting the keypad backlight timeout, this problem could be fixed.
The new joystick driver disables the joystick when the phone is locked, or when the screen shuts down for powersave. I think that the keypad powersave causes this too.
There was a Tornado ROM out for a really brief period that I read had the ability to tweak the keypad timeout, but I can't find it for download.

Wow, I have just tried turning Light sensor off (settings-power management), and it seems to do miracles so far - joy works as new (on WM6 V4 from this forum)!
EDIT 2 hours later... it doesn't anymore at least i know it's because of software... Seems to be connected with keyboard power management.

Yes.
For some reason, my keypad backlight has stopped turning on. And the stick gives me no problem at all now.
No idea how that happened. But I'm fine with that.
Still having Joystick issues
It seems that very few of us are having that joystick issue. I tried the backlight trick, which did not help. There is definitely a driver issue with a combination of hardware. However, even if I try the Keyboard.dll from the original rom and cook a rom with it, I am having that issue.
My question is: does anyone know what other drivers will need to be extracted from the original C600 Rom and cooked on the WM6 to make the joystick behave as it should?
Thank you
I've the same problem.
WM6 v.3.4
Same problem as i have ....but if i press the volume button it seems to b working just fine ...

Not sure about some of the other cooks (I'm using vjgrace's 3.4) but on mine it's:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/KEYPAD/KB_LIGHT_TIMEOUT
It's in milliseconds - roughly. I set my display timeout to 30 seconds and the keypad light timeout for 30,000 milliseconds (30 seconds) and the keypad turned off just before the display. Keypad timeout at 30,069 milliseconds turns the keypad off at the same moment that the display dims.
That was way off topic, but if editing the keypad timeout helps fix the joystick problem, that's how to do it.

If it is a fix, I don't see how it's off-topic at all. It's bang-on. I'll experiment w/this over the weekend and see how it goes. Thanks.
seeing this with 3.4 rom from vj and cingular 2125. I can move down/right pretty easily with joystick. However, up/left are sticky. Sometimes they don't respond and you have to try a few times. Really kills usability of the phone on WM6, feels slow and clunky.
I've changed it to 60,000
I'll report back later.
So, I got fed up with joystick problem, and ordered a new keyboard part form ebay - here for $20: ebay link
Should arrive in a week or two, will write how it worked (i expect joystick to work as new after that )

Now i've found this thread, and tryed to move joystick while holding the "6" or "2" - then it works fine! Guys, dont want to roll back to the original ROM..

I have a problems with my htc. The light of keyboard always is On

I have a problems with my htc. The light of keyboard always is On
I have the Energy.RAPHAEL.23544.Sense2.5_with_Cookie_HomeTab.Mar.10 and the radio is 1.14.25.3. What can i do?
thansk
I put the original roms and i still have a problems with my htc. The light of keyboard always is On. And the batery only during 4 hours because the keyboad dont turn of. Why can i do?
I think the problem is the switch or sensor that tells the phone the keyboard has been shut, mine does this occasionally. If I slide the keyboard shut firmly the light will go off. Hope this helps.
thanks for responme a try to open the keyboard an i try to fix them
Might want to see if you have anything else controlling the light. I know with LUMOs, I had trouble a couple times. Without it installed no troubles. Lumos apparently can control the length of the light for the backlight. So you might want to check if you have that or anything similar controlling the backlight. Also check your settings in Power to see if there's anything wrong there too.

HTC Touch Pro Backlight Issue and another question

Hey, My backlight keeps dimming everytime I power on my HTC from sleep. When it's sleeping (just tapping the power button so the screen turns off) the backlight goes really dark when I turn it back on yet the HTC power settings say it's on bright. When I move the bar back and forward the backlight's brightness goes back to its original state. Can someone help me find a fix? I am running tweaks and stuff but I haven't messed with it lately. Hope someone knows what i did wrong if i did anything
Also, Does the HTC Touch Pro accept 32GB cards? If not, is there a way to make it do so? Because I heard there was a way but not told how. All I know is that you have to hack the battery or something.
Thanks alot

Lost LED backlight for home/menu/back/search buttons

Running cm7 and having problems with the soft key LED backlight. Sometimes they are on, sometimes they are not. Sometimes when i turn on the phone they are on, after I unlock they turn off after a few seconds. Nothing I do can turn them back on after they turn off but they will turn back on randomly. Is this common? Is this a warranty issue?
Has anyone else had this issue?
I've had that problem on all AOSP roms. Though luckily CM7 has an option to fix it. I believe it's under CyanogenMod settings and backlight settings. I don't quite remember. I'll have to check and let you know exactly.
Go to CM settings and then to Display. Select automatic backlight, scroll down and check use custom. You're going to go into edit other levels and in the right column you'll see buttons. The default is 30 and if you change the value higher you'll increase the button backlight and they'll stop randomly coming on.

That worked perfectly! I never would have thought to even look there. Thanks a
Does it do this in complete darkness? A lot of roms (or maybe it's kernel settings, or both) use the light sensor to turn off the soft key lights when it's bright enough to see them but when you're in poor or no light, they stay on. It should save you battery and I actually like it.
Think the first rom I used was gingeritis and it had this feature and thought my soft key lights were burning out.
If you already know this or if it was happening in darkness, then ignore my post. Maybe some dust got in your sensor?

It was dark enough that I couldn't read the writing on the soft keys so of figured something was up but I figured it out. Thanks

Some touch screen issues

Alright let's get right to it.
Example. Touch power off. Responds to airplane mode.. switch to landscape correctly presses power off.
Go to settings misc settings I select will choose an option just below it. Switch to landscape and it all works fine.
Did this in completely stock Rom and locked everything. Non rooted.
I am now using a aospx Rom so I have rooted unlocked s off etc and still the same issue with the same fix. And the screen isn't dead just have to switch to landscape for the fix... Wiered and annoying....
So any ideas. Tries googling this but it is hard to get Amy results when its difficult to explain.
Also the mytouch4g is on aospx synthetic ics Rom with newest radio...
It is doing this on two different roms. Any help will be welcomed.

Have you tried to recalibrate your touch screen under settings>display> g-sensor calibration? Try that first if you haven't, then if it persists, I agree with the post above...
