Has Anyone Figured This Out Yet? - HTC One S

How to disable MobileLife Contacts and/or T-Mobile Name ID on a non-rooted H1S?
I've contacted T-Mobile through web chat to ask how to do it, but basically got told to manually kill them if they run as if I've got the time to do that.
And posting on T-Mobile's support forums is a complete waste of time, the support people are all morons who won't bother to figure out the answer if it's more than just a simple answer.

Had this issue too. Straight up going to tell you, root it. T-Mobile puts too much **** and the device, and 'disabling' or freezing it in Settings>Apps does nothing. Root the device and uninstall with TitaniumBackup. It's not that hard...

Simplest thing is to disable MobileLife Contacts from syncing under Settings>Accounts & sync. I never setup NameID, I use youmail's Who Are You instead (works well when the 1S can get data, and is free). Looks like Tmo charges for NameID though, so customer service or the MyTmobile website (look for the services on your line) should be able to disable it.

I disabled MobileLife Contacts from syncing...and it reenables itself on reboot. And I've tried restricting is use of background data, but it still shows up as having used background data. This is why I want it gone.
I went to root, but it's not so easy after the 1.84 update, unfortunately. So I'm stuck waiting for that to be fixed.
I never set up T-Mobile Name ID either, but it still runs. Every time I get a phone call, it starts wasting my clock cycles, battery, and data.
I was just hoping someone had managed to disable either without having to disable everything else first, or rooting. Oh well.

Anyone come up with a resolution for this trojan? Unreal! Post update it is not possible to disable this app.

I finally broke down and rooted my phone. If they give me issue about a warranty return, then this is what I'll bring up. Hopefully I wont need to return it, though. :/

Unfortunately I can not root my device for security reasons and my employment.
Called TMobile and they escalated this to HTC. Should hear back in 48 hours. This runs uses data no matter what you do post update.

I can send MMS just fine, but I cannot receive them from other networks. Upsetting.
im having these issues to but mine has not been rooted. I can receive pictures all day long fine, i just cant send them with any reliability. Restarting when it says "sending" doesnt work to force it send for me. I was in a 3g town yesterday and didnt have much problem sending pics, back in home town today on EDGE and having issues yet again.
Anyone got any thoughts?
I have had the same issue. I was even unable to send a picture through gmail as an attachment yesterday while in a 3g area. today i can send one through my corporate e-mail but still no mms. I have rooted and removed the att junk with ti backup. I dont think i removed anything that would effect mms though. I have also tried a factory reset. It deleted all my apps and settings but i did not have to reroot. It also did not return any of the att programs. Any help with this issue would be great.
had the same issue...could not send PIcs at ALL. took it back, got a replacement and it sent one fine.... then i tried again and didnt work. WTF?
I am an att manager and I have a captivate and have sold tons of others. I spoke with galaxy s support last week and they are going to call me back Monday to let me know if they have a fix yet. The tech said that he got it to work 2 out 10 times trying mms. As soon as i hear the fix i will post for all.

Good to hear we have an insider on board
I seem to be on the same boat, however:
Can't send pictures to my dad (AT&T, iphone)
Or my mom (ACS; local Alaska carrier)
But send em' just fine to my girlfriend(AT&T via LongLines Cellular towers)
Boy does that make sense
I had the same issue with sending MMS but was able to figure out a work around. It appears it is something related to the message size. If I crop an image, and the message size stays under 80kb, it will send with no issues. Not sure what the magic number is where it stops sending but will post once I figure it out.
Non-rooted Captivate, had a similar problem receiving MMS for the first week (purchased July 18th). Specifically, I could not receive MMS from Verizon customers unless they were using a Blackberry. Verizon customers using LG and Samsung phones, I got nothing. Verizon customers using a Blackberry, MMS would come through to me fine. SMS worked fine to and from all carriers and I could send MMS to friends on all carriers (and they would receive them properly, regardless of their device).
Tested with 3 different Verizon customers in 2 parts of the U.S. (cross-country), with Samsung Intensity and LG Envy phones on their end ... none of them could send me MMS. My screen would wake up as if something were coming in ... but nothing would ever come through. Very frustrating. Went to an AT&T store, duplicated the tests on their demo unit with the store manager's SIM installed.
The Fix (for my issue, YMMV):
AT&T's billing system was correctly showing my device as a Samsung Captivate, but their network provisioning system was showing the device field as blank (which apparently defaults the behavior to "non-smartphone," for what it's worth). The tech submitted a ticket to correct that, as apparently everything had to be in order before the network folks would take a look at the problem. Turned out that simply correcting that field fixed my MMS issue (since it registered my phone in the "smartphone" category). Note that I was told that correcting that field usually takes them 5-7 days, since it's not considered critical, but she pushed it through more quickly.
Customer Support
I have to include this bit here, because the customer support I received was amazing and far beyond what I expected. I understand that I may have had better luck than most. Got to a higher level tech with no fuss, and she immediately took ownership and had excellent communication, emailing me and following up with multiple phone calls to keep me in the loop with what she was doing. I've been thinking about switching carriers, but AT&T finally releasing the Captivate (even with the GPS issue, etc.), coupled with this tech's absolutely superb customer-focused support, will keep me here for awhile longer (and I'm definitely going to send her a glowing email saying just that, which I hope she forwards to her supervisor).
All my MMS works but 1 just showed up as a play symbol. It was a wide picture.

Update for T Mobile My Account now available

I was just on the market and I saw that there is an update for the t Mobile My Account app. Has anybody installed this yet? I'm wondering if this fixes the WiFi issue I had with the 5.6 update freezing DNS which is the reason why I rooted my G2X. I'm also hesitant because I currently have the my account frozen.

I typically try to avoid T-Mobile software like the plague... no convenience is worth having their programming gum up my phone.
I'll remain hopeful though that T-mobile will start getting their act together starting with updating their apps and fixing them proper. Despite my angst against the topic I'm still curious regardless.
My wife's s4g got it last night but not on my g2x
I downloaded it last night. It is still a buggy mess. It takes forever to sync with Tmo and half the features do not work. Billing and Plan still do not sync. It just gives a message to call to get the info after about five minutes of doing nothing.
Activity/data used does work which is nice for those stuck on the 2g plan.
Still a horrible app...Delete.

Well I'm glad I didn't update
Based upon the results so far I'm glad I left that update alone.
Uninstalled. That thing sucks. How hard is it for a company the size of TMo to build a half decent app?
I had to uninstall updates then reinstall and reboot. After all that mine syncs all fields just fine and I find it to be a great resource to monitor my usage since no matter what 3g watchdog says, T-Mobile will be throtling me for what they see pass-through for data. Its also super easy to pay my bill with.

I didn't even have to do that; I just updated it in the market and it all just works fine for me. (I don't use it very often and didn't immediately open it after the update, so it's probable that I did have a reboot in there somewhere between the update and the first time I used it.)
dunno why u guys are having so much trouble with it. works fine for me even before the update

Insanely high battery/data usage?!

I accidentally broke my Samsung last week so went back to my Inspire, good phone never had problems with it before. However I noticed that the Inspire's battery drained really fast now, where I'd have to charge it twice a day even if I barely used it. I assumed the phone was old and I just needed to replace the battery. Then a couple days ago I got a text from AT&T saying I had almost reached my 2GB monthly data cap (never even used over 300MB before) so I checked the AT&T data usage site and apparently every day my phone has been sending huge data files in the 30-60MB range multiple times a day.
I don't even know what these files could be because I haven't even downloaded any files that large. Phone is NOT rooted. Aside from updating Angry Birds, I haven't installed any new apps or added any new accounts lately, everything is exactly the same as it has always been. Restarted the phone a couple times to see if it was a fluke but didn't help. Had to completely disable mobile data for now.
Any idea what could be causing this? Any way to check exactly what files/data are being sent?

What I would do is completely wipe the device and start over. I really can't think of anything off the top of my head that would send that much data. It's possible its just bugging out and the Qualcomm snooper program is staying constantly active or something along those lines. Or you could uninstall everything and see if it goes away and then reinstall stuff slowly and see if you can pin it down to one app. That is a lot of data though. Not to cause alarm but you might also want to check the possibly of some sort of hack or virus that may have infected your device.

Yeah that might be the best thing to do (just wipe it all and start over), shouldn't be too hard to import my mail settings and contacts, that's all I really need.
How do you check for hacks/viruses?
I hard reset the phone, however when I synced my contacts back after it automatically re-downloaded all of my apps for some reason. High data usage is still there. So either it's a problem with an app, or the phone itself is just messed up. The battery usage only shows cell standby and dialer using it up and it won't show which apps are using the battery for some reason.

This is the HTC Inspire 4G forums. I would strongly recommend that you post in the Galaxy S2 forums. They will know how to answer your question better than us users of another phone.

[Q] Stumped. Please Help!

Alright, to begin. About a month ago I lost my GPS. Meaning, my phone could not locate itself. Move up to the end of last week...I was unable to send text messages, call out or receive calls. I WAS able to receive text messages. Also, I could use my mobile data (i.e. Internet). Then, I lost ALL capabilities and the phone went to asking me if I wanted to switch to GLOBAL ROAMING. Still, at this point I could ODIN flash to stock. However, I could not ROOT the phone. Even with flashing back to stock (unrooting), the phone would not call, or text, etc...Okay, still with me? So, yesterday, I took the phone to the local Verizon Corporate store to have them look at it. A new SIM card did not fix the problem. In fact, when he booted the phone, the boot and splash screen both came up with a picture of a big LOCK (that was unlocked) and the word "CUSTOM". He looked at us and said, "That's not supposed to be there.". It never was until that time (mind you, I had unrooted). The phone wouldn't even boot to the VZW stock recovery. He was awesome to work with and we did so for over an hour. He was going to replace the phone with a new one under insurance (even though I don't have insurance on the phone). But the phone was not in the system. They couldn't find it. "Like it doesn't exist". So, today I am still messing with it and have been all over the internet looking for a solution. I've ODIN'd the stupid thing so many times in the last two days. NOW, I DON'T have the big un-locked LOCK or the "CUSTOM" anymore, but I can't get past the setup screen because the phone is ROAMING! It will ask which language, then, at the next screen, it tells me to wait while it connects to Verizon Wireless and activates itself. At this point, the phone will make a phone call, ON ITS OWN, and I listen to people telling me that I may be eligible for a $100 gift card as well as other advertisements. I used to be able to pull down the notification bar and setup my wifi. Now, I can't do that.
I've tried every stock ROM available all the way back to 4.0.4. At first, that's what I would do and then, just apply the OTAs until i reached 4.1.2. Now, I can't even get that far.
I'm sure I've forgotten some things, but please ask away if that will help clear anything up. I've never had any problems with this device. Could it be a virus? Or is it doomed for the recycler? I have no idea what to do. Thanks.
Also, I remembered, when I was able to see my phone's info it showed I was connected to the network and everything looked as it should and would, normally. I still couldn't send texts, call, etc...on Verizon's customer representative end, they would also say that it would look like the phone was trying to do something but never would.
When I would request my IMEI#, it checked out fine. However, when I would use the dialer for the IMEI check, I would get the IMEI# followed by a /01 or /02. Not sure what that means, but thought I'd throw that out there, as well. Thanks
Now, when I'm in the aforementioned set up screen, my phone direct-calls Alltel. "Thank you for calling Alltel". WTH.

Hi. Unfortunately, I couldn't give the specifics because I don't really know. Other than, the last flash I did was Odin back to stock (un-root) and do all the OTA updates (up to 4.1.2). So, whatever all the stock, non-rooted S3s are running. Sorry I couldn't give more info. Thanks.

Thanks. Yeah, I was on the phone from 11pm last night until 1am this morning with Verizon and they couldn't get it working. Put in another "network fix" ticket but haven't heard back. Looks hopeless. My contract is up and I am really looking forward to the S4, but money is tight and I was going to wait a bit before that purchase. I was using an old Samsung SCH-U900 Flipshot as my backup. I don't have to tell anyone, but that sucked. Now, I can't even use that because they need the line clear for the work order. So, I'm helpless. How the heck did I survive before cell phones?!

Hey, no problem and thanks. I was going crazy with the old Droid X. Anyway, because of the outcome, I thought it would be a good reason to post and maybe help others. ORIGINALLY, when we first called Verizon, that's the first thing I wanted them to try. Or at least let me try. I just couldn't get past the language set up screen and the phone making calls on its own. All they would do is a factory reset. Still not sure why the phone went berserk and changed up on me. Oh well, it's back now and I couldn't be happier.

MMS selectively working on Nexus 5

So I think they weren't working at all because my IMEI wasn't updated with AT&T when I got my replacement phone. Got that addressed.
Since then, I was able to receive old MMS, but even new ones sometimes get hung up on trying to retrieve them. exiting app and going back in doesn't fix it.
Starting the phone up again does though..
Made sure APN settings are good to go, unchecked 'mobile data' in sms settings and re-enabled within Hangouts.
I'm on stock rooted 4.4 (and franco kernel)
any idea whats going on? It seems like other people are having this problem too but I don't understand it. Thanks.
I am seeing the same issues here.. Stock play store purchased and rooted on Sprint, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, sometimes even SMS sits forever and wont send or receive until I restart the phone, trying to find someone with a Sprint purchased N5 to compare APNs with
Its almost 2014, you would think someone would be able to straighten out the massive amount of MMS issues with android phones :/ It should "just work" to the customer
I have a feeling it has something to do with Hangouts app itself..

Interesting, i wonder what the root of the issue is since it's selectively working.
Can't be hardware, because it selectively works whereas my data and nothing else has been on the fritz, and it seems like whenever I receive errors rebooting and going back into the app it loads the ones it was hung up on. Seems like it downloads it, but just shows an error instead of displaying the MMS.
Hmmm
And I had AT&T double check the IMEI I provided them was accurate..
Hopefully it just resolves itself eventually, either the network, or a software hiccup, or whatever it is.
Because this Nexus 5 I have right now is a perfect "copy" or whatever you want to call it, a perfect build.
EDIT: I FOUND THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM!!!
adblock for me. Uninstalling didn't fix it either. Just resetting the phone (wiping everything in settings) nipped it in the bud.
It makes sense that that would be the culprit too because it requires root access, and permissions don't seem to kick in until slightly after the phone boots up initially which would coincide with mms received and sent just for those first few moments.
Good luck all, found this advice somewhere else, and so glad it's not a hardware defect as I had suspected it wasn't.
