Short story:
Got phone off ebay. ESN is clear. Had Android 2.3 on it. Took it to Sprint store yesterday and they said its not right. Something is missing according to them. Didnt tell me want but that they couldnt activate it. Brought it home flashed completely stock 2.3 img files and let it update its self to ICS. Brought it back and still doesnt work. Different tech today says that it is not letting them into the programming menu ##786# so they cant activate it or assign it to my phone number.
Question:
What do I need to flash to be able to get the programming menu back?
Would rather fix it then have to send back to ebay seller.

Ive tried these forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072698
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-4g-hacks/how-to-unroot-nexus-s-4g/
Using samsungsimpleDL and fastboot.
The closest Ive gotten is http://community.sprint.com/baw/docs/DOC-2352 using *#*#72786#*#*. It is asking for an MSL there.
Called Sprint and let the guy try to activate it. He gave me a new code *#*#976879#*#* that git me in and we changed the MSID and phone now works.
So who knows if if was the phone or simply needing the right sprint tech. Thanks for the questions you asked. It helped me search for more answers and ideas.

I've got a used Shift that I'd like to use as a computer only. I've already rooted and flashed on CM7 to try it out.
It was a Sprint phone, and it still connects to the Sprint network. What I want to do is remove the number that was previously programmed. I'd love to get it completely off the mobile network (including cell service), but Sprint technical support has told me that it will still connect for things like 911. But, I'd like to get the number out all the same.
Is this possible?

Hey Buddy, I guess you can go on QPST and get rid of the SPRINT data, you need your MSL so get MSL reader from the Market Not sure if it will work but you should go on QPST and delete all the sprint info. Be Careful YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE
Hello all. i am noob. i just got the infuse last night. used the 010 hex editor to get the unlock code for the phone. i also used that 1click root program. the problem i am facing is that after i did all of this my dial pad is all messed up. the bottom buttons (send key, voicemail key etc) are cut off about half way. its almost as if its a screen resolution problem. was hoping someone has an answer to this better than what att told me which is i need to get a new phone, i really hope thats not the case. please help!
GTG's Ultimate Unbrick will put your phone back to stock.
Then use SuperOneClick to root and I used InfuseRootUnlock_v4, to get my Unlock code.
Any guaruntees it will work? i will try this. and the unlocker you speak of i tried using but kept getting an error message and it wouldnt provide me the unlock code. i guess i could punch in the same one i have written down? I appreciate the help, thankyou.
I don't trust att. My dsl was down, I told them that I knew of three others that were also down.
She had me unplug my dsl modem, then informed me that ghe modem was bad because she couldn't access it.
She then proceeded to try and sell me a new modem. I refused of course, knowing that it was them and not me.
So, no guarantees, but that's what I'd do.
Cranky...
ok. So, i turned the phone off. took out the battery, gave it a second, popped the battery back in, held down both volume buttons while doing so plugged in the usb cable, nothing shows up in the COM line on Oden3.
Sigh what to do now?
Is there any other way I can get the phone back to stock everything?
By the way, if it helps, when i rooted the phone I did NOT install any custom roms, i left it the way it was.
Thankyou for all the help you have been giving me so far.
and Odin recognizes it when i have the phone on and plug it into my computer.
When i boot into down load mode, My computer says that it does not recognize the device? which is weird.
I have also installed Kies
Okay, sorry to be posting endless amounts of posts but i just found something out. This phone must have already been rooted and someone must have already installed a custom rom. i looked at the phone settings and it says its running on "Infused". Now, going into clockworkmod and then into download roms, then to the gtg465x, in BIG BOLD letters it says "WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL YOURSELF! FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS POSTED ON XDA" - Infused v2.2.3
Which is exactly what rom i am running on.
My guess is, is that some "genius" decided not to pay attention to that and follow the directions and screwed it all up. WHICH was not me. Hence, i have not installed a custom rom on this phone.
So back to step one I guess. I sincerely apologize for this, I really do appreciate your help.
Could I install another custom rom such as CM7? Maybe that will fix the dialer issue?
FIXED
okay so i fixed it. All i did was re,download the rom. did both wipes, (didnt do backup, already had one) let it install the rom again, back to normal. Finally.
Thankyou for your cooperation though!
Glad to hear

im having same problem on tmobile note 3 running dompop v5.1 i cant find a solution have you yet.
Hi guys, I'm new here and in a fix. I'm with CSpire and to keep my current plan I had to find a used Galaxy S2 (Cspire has none) to replace my Galaxy S (slow 3g around Memphis).
Seller had all Cspire packaging, etc and said it was a company phone but when I get to Cspire they can't program it and show me the 'Mycricket' info in Settings. Call 611 and you get Cricket Customer Service so someone evidently flashed it to work with cricket at some point.
How much of a pain is it to try and get this phone back to Cspire so I use it? Only thing I was told by someone on craigslist (lol) is that I need to get the Cspire PRL for my 'new' phone and somehow d'load some software to flash it back to Cspire so I can get it activated but it seems like a lot of work, especially for a near 2 year old phone.
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys
Jeremy
Have you tried going to SamMobile website, and finding stock firmware for that device?
That's a good place to find STOCK Carrier specific firmware for Samsung devices.

Thanks, no but I'll see what I can dig up. The seller did finally mention that they 'lost' it for a month but didn't know what happened to it, and have offered to take it back so I told them to give me a day to look at it. The cheapest mint S2 phones are over $150 so it would be cool to fix this one since I only paid $90 for it.
I don't want to waste alot of time on this phone though. I've grown up building and overclocking computers but don't have any interest in doing that to the phone or spending hours learning how to get this phone back to the original carrier.
Thanks for the heads up on SamMobile though!
EDIT: I checked SM's firware listing and unfortunately mine isn't listed for the CSpire GS2. It's a SCH-R760.
I've seen newer white SG2 phones for around $150 that are supposed to be newer than the black models but I prefer black, and $90 lol. This stinks...
Ya.. when I saw your first post I did a quick google search to figure out that model.. and the SCH-R760 is what I found and didn't see it on SamMobile either. Tough Luck.
I've never heard of CSpire either, so I thought you might have better luck finding a stock rom.
BUT... doing another google search.. I found this.. give it a quick look.. hope it helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597686

Thanks, I looked it over which is a bit much for someone not used to hacking a phone lol. One question, is getting a stock rom the answer to getting the phone to work with the original carrier? BTW, C Spire used to be Cellular South, a large regional carrier around the mid-south (Memphis,TN/MS/AL,etc)
Thanks
One question I should have asked first... does the phone have the stock Recovery installed?
To boot into recovery on that phone (if you don't know already, not sure).
1. Power off the phone.
2. Press and HOLD: Volume UP + Home Button + Power (in that order, one after another, keeping all pressed)
3. When you see the Galaxy S2 Logo come up, you can let go of the Power button. Then when a recovery screen comes up, or a logo for a 3rd party Recovery comes up you can let go of the Volume and Home button.
If recovery is stock, you will see "Android system recovery <[X]e>" [X] just being number for recovery.
If recovery is modded you will probably either see TWRP recovery or CWM recovery come up.
If it's STOCK, and you have already backed up all your information you can try -> "wipe/data factory reset" which will still keep some data, but system will restore to it's original state.
First im not sure if im posting in the right spot. if im not please let me know via message and move if needed. Anyway here is goes.
Ok so a little background on whats going on.My phone is a SCH-R530X.. (Note the X. Its the generic version) CDMA on MobileNation... I was in the Service Mode on my galaxy and layed it down on the table. My son picks it up and starts pushing things on it. When I got back I had no service what so ever. It wouldn't connect to a tower at all. After going through the service menu tring to figure out what he changed with no luck, I flashed using Kies. No luck with that. I did some research on it and tried a few things. Finely after failed attempts, I ran across the ##786# that is a return feature that basically dumped some things and restored it to factory. After doing that I finely got service back but no internet or 3g icon that is usually there.. I have tried restoring it, doing *228 activation with no luck. Something got messed up and will not let my internet... I'm good when it comes to doing things like codes settings and flashing so i know how to do that. I just dont know at this point what to do and im asking for help here in hopes to get it back to normal. I also forgot to mention that i took it to the phone company and the 2 people i talk to there didn't know nothing when it come to it. The first time i took it up there it was not working at all and he said he tried everything and that hes sure it was service bricked. Then after i did the ##786# thing i took it back to him to see if they could get the internet going. He was like, I wish i knew what you did to fix that part of the service cause i tried everything and bla bla...... The only thing they know how to do is activate them and dont know crap when it comes to troubleshooting.... Anyway please help.....
There use to be firmware here for it but i see its gone from this site. If i could try maybe reflashing as much as i could i would but i cant find the right firmware for the phone.
Bought phone off marketplace; verified it was working by inserting my SIM card and making a phone call prior to purchase. Later on while setting up the phone I discover that it's got administrative software installed on it and retail mode turned on.
Looking closer at the box, it said it's a demo unit. (I know, should've been more thorough)
The question I have is if it's a true demo unit that's unsalvageable, why was I able to make the call? (I used my own SIM)
Some demo units can make calls. People like to try them out in stores. Personally, I'd try to return it. Maybe you can flash a new firmware. Doubt makeup of hardware any different since it works. Never know though.

Unfortunately returning isn't an option, the guy knew this thing had an issue and decided to not tell me. I figured since it made a call, it should be fine.
The IMEI number comes back as clean, I might try and see if I can use it for a "trade In" if flashing new firmware doesn't seem like it can happen.

Too much of course.
Just go into Settings->Developer Options->Demo mode and take it out of demo mode.

Doesn't allow me to, asks for a password, none of the ones i've found floating around have worked.
there's a admin lockdown, software called SENNCO from Brichtec, its what's removed the "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu im guessing.

I'm able to get to the recovery screen and it seems to allows me to install updates from ADB; am I okay trying to use my pc/ODIN to flash tmobile firmware I have for this device?
Why not? You said if non of this works you're going to trade it in... As long as you don't brick it... And if you're on TMobile... Is it eligible for care plus? If so, you may be able to pass it off to them for repair
Great minds...i was doing that while you posted i guess. Was able to flash and reboot and it went back to the same locked down version that was there before. I guess this means that it's the bootloader/recovery that's locked down? Will try replacing that next.
Any idea where I might find the TWRP for this phone?

Not really sure, haven't rooted or used recovery software in a long time. Finally decided to let others be beta testers and just want a working phone. Go to Samsung Care plus web site, plug in your serial number or IMEI and it will tell you if it qualifies for coverage. If so, $8 month, first 3 or 4 months free, cancel at anytime. If covered, pay deductible and let them fix or replace, which in this case would most likely be replace. Past that, USA phones are pretty locked down if they weren't purchased unlocked. Yea, you can unlock a provider phone after a while on their plan, but boot loader still tough to Crack. I think that's what you just ran into.
