[Q] Is it possible to remove carrier info? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a used Shift that I'd like to use as a computer only. I've already rooted and flashed on CM7 to try it out.
It was a Sprint phone, and it still connects to the Sprint network. What I want to do is remove the number that was previously programmed. I'd love to get it completely off the mobile network (including cell service), but Sprint technical support has told me that it will still connect for things like 911. But, I'd like to get the number out all the same.
Is this possible?

Here try reading this see if will help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144211

Not directly helpful, but it pointed me in the right direction. Thanks!

i kinda wanted to do the same thing but just change the banner info. when i do what is described on the other page it never changes on my phone. did the reset and everything...cant figure this out. i have a shift and a hero that im trying to do this on and both almost seem like they dont want to write to the phone. they say they do though.

What Rom are you running?
TEAM MiK
Mik Roms Since 3/13/11

im running on the hero a stock rooted 2.1 sprint rom and on the shift im running cyanogenmod 7.1 stable

Hey Buddy, I guess you can go on QPST and get rid of the SPRINT data, you need your MSL so get MSL reader from the Market Not sure if it will work but you should go on QPST and delete all the sprint info. Be Careful YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE

Please help: device stuck on Touch Pro 2 screen

Thanks in advance. I flashed a ROM, when i turn on my device, it is stuck on the "Touch Pro 2" splash screen and never goes past. I can enter bootloader. Do I have a corrupt ROM? How can I get the phone working? Thanks again!!
first, what ROM are you using? is your device a GSM (AT&T/T-Mo) or CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) model?
when you ask questions about this kinda stuff, you always need to be as specific as possible. we won't be able to help you until we know these things.
Based on your prior posts, I will assume you have a Tilt2 on AT&T. You can get your phone back up and running by downloading another ROM, and flashing from the bootloader.
thanks. Verizon. I was told I have GSM phone, so I flashed GSM. Bootloader says RHOD500. SPL-1.00.0liNex. The ROM I thought I flashed was EnergyROM_28002_RHODIUM_20.Nov.2009_StandardM2.5.rar. Thank you so much for your kind consideration and help in this matter.
NATF, thanks, how do I flash from bootloader? FYI, we moved off of AT&T onto verizon. I got the andriod but it gave me hemaroid so I got rid of it quick and got the Touch Pro 2. Thanks for all your Fuze ROMS!
Oh you have Verizon now... me too...
Your phone is frozen because you likely flashed the GSM Energy ROM, not his CDMA release. You can have a look at my CDMA ROM (shameless plug), or check out Energy's CDMA ROMs posted over at PPCGeeks.
I'm also moving this thread to the CDMA section.
I think I figured it out. I copied your ROM to the root of my microsd of my fuze (since I could get to that one), then put it in the TP2, went into bootloader with very little expectations, and I got the instructions for flashing from the card on bootload! Why did I hear a scream when the phone booted? Scared the crap out of me!!

Scream?
it was the strangest thing, a 3 second audio clip played as soon as the phone booted the first time during the install of your ROM. It could have been from my PC, I thought it was an easter egg you put into the ROM, but I should have known better.

I just had to make an account to say thank you for tip. I am completely new to the cellphone phone world, but had to shell out for a good one because I don't get internet to my house where I live.
I flashed my CDMA Rhodium with a gsm rom and had no idea there were a difference. I was dreading the idea of having to drive a hundred mile to the sprint store and lying about how the phone stopped working.
Good thing I tried your rom and now the phone is working again. It even gave me more free storage space on the phone.
where is this rom to fix the black screen
i have the same problem but can't find your shameless rom
figured out the scream

Sprint TV 2.1 ROM's

I have searched and only found the posts in separate threads talking about the loss of Sprint TV, and most have not been addressed within the threads. I had Damage 2.1 ROM installed and lost Sprint TV after nearly a week. States I need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I switched to the Fresh 2b ROM last night and had Sprint TV working. This morning I get the same message I am not a Sprint Customer.
I have updated the Build.prop file to show the 310120 and Sprint thinking this might help. Just curious if anyone out there with more knowledge than me has a fix for this. As I stated in a thread post, the TV on the phone is a great kid distraction at times when I need it. That and I like having everything I am paying for working.
Thanks
Interesting, I was thinking about flashing my ROM to one of the custom 2.X roms, however if this is the case I may just wait a while. Although I don't use Sprint TV alot, jniiya is right, it is a good kid distraction to have on your phone... Then again TV turns kids in to zombies.
I can run Sprint TV just find using damgeless, and I'm able to stream with no problem. I did have to restart my phone after I installed it though.
JUST USE FRESH'S PRE KITCHEN TO FLASH IT I did it on damageless rom with no probs whatsoever

It's not a problem of getting on the phone. I have had it installed from day one with both ROMs. It works for a while, but then it gives me the error of you need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I am thinking since these builds are based off the Eris it is sending some type of info back to the Sprint servers show it as a Verizon phone. I just can't figure out what it is since I have changed the build.prop file, and I am not familiar enough with these systems/codes to dig around and think of another place it would be sending back info as if it were Verizon.
This is not like a deal breaker with me in anyway. Just trying to figure it out for the future.
Thanks for reading the post.

Exact same problem here. It works for a while, then I get that error message. If I uninstall and reinstall Sprint TV (pick your favorite method), it works for a while again, but after minutes, hours, or a day (no noticeable pattern) I get that error message.
I've posted on it in several threads about this topic hoping to find a fix. People have told me to edit my build.prop file. I keep trying, but I'm new to this, and every time I try to add the lines below I have problems. The phone freezes during boot up, and I end up having to do a nandroid restore.
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310120
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Sprint
Several threads on this forum and others say this (or variations on it) will solve the problem, but it locks my phone up. I've tried with the =, without, with spaces before and after, and at various places within the file. I wonder if I'm doing something really stupid because I don't know exactly what the formatting is supposed to be. If anybody knows of a tutorial on build.prop, I'd be thrilled to use that, but I haven't been able to find one.
Been working fine for me. Running Fresh 2.0b2 since Flipz released it.
Not to hijack, but have you tried the TV.com app? Something like that I think I uninstalled it, but I thought it was actually better than Sprint TV...
Yep, I went back to 1.5 Fresh because of Sprint TV. Sprint just got ESPN and the NCAA tourney should be on. I am crossing my fingers that Sprint releases the update in the next week or so.

You do not have to add the lines just change the values. The lines are already in there.
This fix didn't work for me. It still tells me I need to be a sprint subscriber.

They're not in the build.prop on my phone. It's not like I didn't look for them. I even used the search feature on my editor. The only line I have that contains cdma is:
ro.cdma.privilege.timeout=120000

Sorry about that. What rom are you using. I am damage 1.0 if you want I can post the build.prop from my phone but I do not know if it will fix SprintTv because I do not use and I have not installed it.

No problem. I am also using damage 1.0, however, I see references to pancake (and cupcake, bikcmp) in my build.prop file. I was surprised by that. Is that normal? I did do a wipe (wipe data/factory reset) before I installed damage. In fact, I wiped before going from pancake to fresh 2.0 and again before going from fresh 2.0 to damage.
If you can post the build.prop, I'll give it a try and report back.

Sorry for the late post. I just pull it from my phone. Attached is the build.prop from Damage 1.0. Again I do not use SprintTv or have it installed so I do not know if it will fix it. You have to rename the file to build.prop and push it to /system/.
Ok so I'm watching ESPN all day long at work, and I turn it off so I can get ready to leave work.
While on the subway I try to access it and I get the "You must be a Sprint customer to view Sprint TV" or some crap like that. I'm like ok, maybe because I might be roaming on Verizon network its not letting me. So I wait until I have a good signal and try again, same error message.....
I tried restarting phone, disable and re-enable mobile network, and checked to make sure I wasn't roaming. No Luck.
Look for the Tmobile ported one
Has anyone tried it on Darch's rom. It's based off of the legend which is for sprint?
Can i get a link to the official Sprint TV APK. I cant find it. I have the hacked t-mo one. but half of the video is cut off for some reason

Please gimmie some tips on my Touch Pro2 (reguarding a few upgrades)

i just have a few questions
1. how does one go to Windows Mobile 6.5.3? I have a US Cellular Touch Pro2 and would really like to do this.
2. My friend showed me his Sprint touch pro2 and he has this thing on his homescreen that allows him to show his favorite programs right below the Sense UI clock. i wonder is that something i could do?
3. any tips on keeping the phone running at a lower amount of memory? Currently my phone runs at around 70-80%
4. Ive never flashed my phone before and dont know how or where to start. can anyone give me some pointers on this?
You guys ROCK Hard core. even the people who just look at the post. Thank you guys for all your hard work.
You need to unlock the phone and flash a custom rom with sense 2.5. Make sure you use cdma roms and unlocker. Bigger selection on ppcgeeks.com

I flashed my VZW TP2 with the latest Energy build, and for the life of me I couldn't get the MMS to work right (I tried using the patcher, while still keeping the Sense message tool, but I couldn't get the MMS Servers to take?). I was also a little nervous about data usage because I couldn't tell if it was trying to use dial-up (like back on the "old days" lol) or if it was using 3G. so I went back to the official 6.5 and sense 2.1 ROM. Any thoughts for me?

[Q] HTC Evo Shift - Software Upgrade

Hi all,
I'm going to be getting an HTC Evo Shift from someone, which I think has Android 2.2 Froyo on it.
The phone was reported lost and a replacement obtained, then after getting the replacement the old phone was found.... but Sprint said they had written it off, and didn't want the old one back. The ESN remains blocked on Sprint because of this, but they won't unblock it and just said they didn't want it.
Soooo, I'm going to use it as a WiFi only device... but I'd really like to get Gingerbread 2.3 onto it somehow... which I'm assuming can't be done OTA if the ESN is blocked on the Sprint network?
Also, I'm in Canada so once I get it, I won't have access to the Sprint network at all.... and I don't know if the update can be downloaded and installed manually through the computer or what. Anyone know?
I heard the Evo Shift can be rooted as well, but that sounds very complicated to me... so I'm still figuring out what my options are with regards to getting the software as updated as possible.
Any advice would be appreciated
id personally recommend reading up on how to root your fone..
and once you get that going...
you can just install a diff rom that has 2.3 on it..
=D
hey
I did a bit of reading on rooting bit it seems like its different for all devices and some are "one click" solutions while others are multi-step instructions full of unfamilliar terms and procedures which could ruin the phone. lol
I did read some instructions that pertained to the Evo Shift, but there was much involved that my brain shut off after reading the first few steps.
I was really hoping for something simple. but that might be a pipe dream, eh?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-976605.html
Looks like the simplest root method for the shift. I haven't tried it, but since it is on xda good chance it is well supported.

Thanks for the link.
Still sounds scary... but I'll finish reading the rest of the discussion later and see what others ultimately had to say about it.
Still open to comments from others too if anyone has any.
I dont have the phone yet, I'm just getting prepared so I can get to work updating it as soon as it arrives.
Easy and fast root method
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
The link that was posted would be the easiest for someone but the perm root instructions that are stickied in the development section is what I have used many times on my shift and my girls shift when I root, you can do it either from the pc or from terminal on your phone just have to make sure the commands are exact so I would say just use the pc and copy from the root instructions and paste in command prompt. There are a few gingerbread ROMS to choose from 2 are stock, one is newkidds the other is X99s ROM, then there is MikShiFted-G which is a very optimized and snappy GB, and last there is Elite v1.2 over on themikmik which is based off MikShifted-G but has carousel Rosie and 3D widgets, whatever you do don't try the ota if it goes through you will be stuck with a OS that hasn't been rooted yet
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the replies guys.
I might give it a shot when it arrives.
There is a lot more I need to look into first.
I've seen lots of people say that if a CDMA phone has a carrier blocked ESN, that you can flash another carriers ROM onto it and activate it with them. I think Cricket Wireless or Boost Mobile was mentioned, but I can't remember.
Here in Canada, Bell still runs CDMA but they will NOT allow a non-Bell CDMA phone to be connected to their network, under any circumstances. HSPA/GSM they will though.
It I could flash the ROM to a carrier other than Sprint, that might be a good idea. That way the thing can potentially have some value as a phone too, and maybe serve me as a roaming device when I travel to the US. Or, would just installing one of the third party ROM's allow it to be activated on another carrier?
I'm really not familliar with the way the US carriers operate.

[Completed] HTC One M9 no longer on sprint network after flashing custom ROM

Hey guys, i'm going to copy/paste my post from Tom's Hardware (I felt this may be a better place for the question):
Alright, so, i've been all over google the last two days and I just can't seem to find the right person/post having the exact same problem I am so I figured I'd ask myself.
So, as part as my effort to complete one of the various project I have going on around the house, I rooted and flashed custom recovery on my HTC One m9. Then, I flashed skydragon 10 onto it. This part seems to be fine and dandy.
But I just realized that I have ZERO Sprint software or options on my phone. As in, I can't update my profile and prl (the option is gone), I have no operator or mobile data, and my sim card appears to not be recognized as a Sprint SIM. How do I return those options and my phone's "identity"?
I tried various MMI codes to try and update PRL or somehow get my sprint profile back, but it just says "phone connection error or invalid MMI code". Of course, I assume I'm using MMI codes since that's what my phone's calling them (##72786# or something or other). But, right now, I don't really trust my phone.
As far as first experiences go with ROM flashing, this part has been a nightmare. It's like my phone is having an identity crisis and doesn't know that it's Sprint. I feel like shaking it and screaming "Damn it, Carl, you're not a tablet! You're a Sprint Phone!".
I literally feel 2 steps away from a solution, but I feel like I forgot to do something after flashing the ROM.
Here's what I know so far:
All my settings appear correct (APN, Phone Identity, Software Information)
If I search for Network Operators, Sprint comes up (there are 3 more with X's on them, assuming because it's not carrier-unlocked), but when I try to register, it just says the SIM is not a Sprint SIM i.e. my phone has lost it's identity.
As I'm certain you realize, I don't know much at this point. I saw a lot of answers and jargon and I know what it all means, I just don't know what to apply to my problem specifically. I haven't tried much beyond messing with settings since I'm trying to be cautious., but gosh darn (substitute the appropriate swear).
As far as backups go, I have none. I didn't realize that you could back up the stock ROM (not a single one of many guides mentioned nandroid, which I thought was the android folder misspelled, nor an EFS backup, which I thankfully, don't need... hopefully)
UPDATE: So, my phone keeps the annoying as 2am alarm I'm too lazy to get rid of, but ditches it's wireless carrier. Some priorities...
ACTUAL UPDATE: I'm going to call Sprint and see if I can have my SIM reactivated. First solution I've found that makes a little sense. Will post update later.
